Shrinking Assets - Team Chat SEPTEMBER 2021

I obviously can’t speak for others, but based on my experience of once joining a different weight loss challenge/team here on MFP, here were my reasons for failing to actually show up:
- after joining, I found the rules and practices of the group were too complicated and I didn’t have the energy to figure them out
- I had joined on a ”maybe this will give me a push of motivation” type of whim - these groups will not give you that push, at least not initially. You need to be motivated to begin with.
- I had no prior connection to anyone in that group
I had joined a few different groups and challenges and ended not participating because I thought it would motivate me and turns out it didn't. I don't have a connection with this group and didn't with the others. The reason I'm participating in this group is because I told myself this is it. It needs to get done. My posting here will keep me accountable. Another reason is the weight loss stories and strategies that are shared here. I may not post a lot here but reading the threads make me smile. Hey if they can do it so can I! Hmmm this worked for them maybe it will work for me. (had bad experiences with MFP sharing things. Even got bashed a few times and had my feelings hurt. So I stopped posting completely.)

Good Morning Everyone...Happy Saturday
Peachplace - congrats on the loss despite an emotional time.
Marni3369 & Twitch82- I feel ya...the struggle is REAL for me this month as well. I am really hoping to keep focused and get a second loss in a row. Even just 0.1. It has been a while since I've had two consecutive losses.
Nature003Life - I know, I LOVE FALL too. So excited.
Last night I fell into my usual Friday night trap of excessive snacking. I didn't log it at the time, but went back this morning and put it all in. Today is a new day...gotta stay focused on my goals. (Weekends can be such a struggle for me sometimes)

I am shocked and amazed that I had a loss this week! I went over my calories every single day by eating junk. Work has been super stressful. Some days I ate my whole day’s worth of calories in chocolate chip cookies. 😳 Back on track this week!9 -

We are glad to have you as part of our group. This is a difficult journey that we are on. We have to make our own way bc what worked for others might not work for you or me. However, we are all in this together.
Thank you for being on this journey with me!!!5 -

Just not as motivated this past week and carb cravings got the best of me.8 -
I just had a major win: I actually slept an entire night for the first time since probably July. Sure, I woke up multiple times for bathroom breaks etc, but always fell back to sleep and didn’t have any long periods of trying to catch sleep and worrying about stuff. Plenty of good things happened yesterday that probably helped: I had a good heart-to-heart discussion with my boss about some work and management issues that have been really bothering me for a long time, met some friends after work, got a good cuddle with their newborn and lots of calming ”hug hormones”, we did a little cake tasting, and my husband is out of town for the night so I was able to spread over the entire bed and make a pillow fort with everything supported perfectly.
Whatever it was, it worked, and I’m still calm enough to feel like I could go take a nap and continue this tonight. It’s a win.
and my husband is out of town for the night so I was able to spread over the entire bed and make a pillow fort with everything supported perfectly.
This made me laugh because I did the same last spread - completely spread myself over the entire bed and went to sleep

Thanks for your story. It may be a very popular one because we seem to retain so few new people! I joined the first of last April, but I was already fiercely determined.
I have also been bashed a few times on the message boards. I am losing weight quickly, I admit it; I've lost, on average, slightly over 2 pounds per week for the entire 6 months. And people feel that it's ok to be know-it-alls and criticize, to talk about how I'm losing weight too quickly, or will have trouble keeping it off and I'll have wrinkled skin (all without me ever mentioning my skin or plan once I meet my goal weight). And my vegan diet's been criticized too. I don't post on here a lot either, but read the posts at least daily. It's hard enough sticking to your plan and losing weight and getting in shape. For people to bash you is just beyond the pale. They obviously do not have all the information and who asked for their opinion anyway???
Hang in there. This group is great and I've never seen an unkind word!

@Beka3695 and @chublet25 Thank you both for your kind words. Not sure which one of you made me cry more lol.
This is a difficult journey and each day I do my best to introspect myself; get to the root of any issue I have that is hindering me. Last night my mother in law, husband and I were talking and they helped me realize that there was still something holding on, clinging and stressing me out from earlier this year. Now to work on letting it go. Also need to work on my fear of failure and the fear of the unknown. Currently working on those lists. Those are biggies in my world.
Have a good day everyone. Going to take the kiddos out to Spirit Halloween and take care of other stuff. Hope to go for a walk.
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!!!!!!

Happy Monday everyone.
Not much to report, but wanted to come on and read recent posts and say hello.
Have a great day!8 -
Ack! My weigh in day is today, but I had a scale malfunction this morning (ran out of batteries)! I'll post my weigh in tomorrow instead.2

Happy new week, everybody! I’m happy to report this is my last week at work, and I actually only have 3 days left - we had some schedule changes and the meetings planned for Friday were pushed to Thursday, so my boss and I agreed that it’s nicer for everyone involved to just push my departure as well, since there’s nothing for me to really do anymore. Although my job definitely has its downsides and challenges, one major upside is the flexibility of simply getting an extra paid day off to kick off maternity leave when it’s the smart thing to do, instead of following the rulebooks to the letter.5

Felt like a good week, a small reward and I will take it.

I ... I can't believe it and I am disappointed. I think I need to recalibrate my eating. I haven't been following any sort of diet plan, other than IF for 14 hours a day. So, maybe I need to dial in the eating more. On the plus side, my exercising has really been on point and my body is feeling stronger already. Oh, also, I want to weigh myself more often - like every morning- so I can keep a closer eye on what's going on weight-wise.7 -
@bionicpuffy - If you are exercising more, your body might be holding onto water to help with muscle repair. Typically, I’m not someone who cites water retention as a likely source of weight gain - and it’s always wise to reflect on your nutrition, as you noted in your comment - but the fact that you are exercising more and feeling stronger made me think of this possible source. When my muscles are sore, I often weigh a little more. It helps me ‘stay the course’ - which always leads to a downward trend overall - when I am able to stay positive by remembering the many different pieces of this puzzle. Learn and improve but please don’t feel disappointed for long. Hang in there!5
-
@PatriceFitnessPal Yes, that is true about muscle soreness and I do think I have some of that going on.
Upon reflection, I also see that I have been doing a lot of "cheats" here and there - putting milk in my morning coffee, eating errant candy while at work, eating until full rather that satiated.2 -
@bionicpuffy if you do choose to start weighing daily, I highly, highly recommend a weight trend app. It’s very unrealistic to expect never seeing a gain or always seeing a loss, and those apps do the trend tracking for you. Back when I was last losing weight, I used the app and found it very motivational. For my weekly weigh-ins here I simply used the trendweight number of my weekly weigh-in day instead of what the scale said that morning. Sometimes it was more, sometimes it was less, but it was consistent.7

For daily weighing I HIGHLY recommend the Happy Scale App.
Its tracks your trends for you; which helps prevent you getting discouraged by day-to-day fluctuations.6 -

The week started off with a binge day. After I got things under control, I got back on track. The days I don't have organized exercise, I preplan the meals so I can stay under or near my calorie goal. Exercise days give me extra calories and way more options. I'm eating back about half of my exercise calories on those days. It's working!!8 -

I’ve lost a little more than 40 pounds and achieved my goal weight of 125 pounds. It’s time to solidify my positive nutrition and fitness habits so I can sustain the results long term. The ‘maintenance phase’ requires lifelong application of what I’ve learned through the MFP tracking. I’m going to continue reflecting, refining, and improving!
Thanks for all your support and encouragement, especially during my final ‘push’ in reaching my weight loss goal. Now, I’m focusing on body recomposition and maintenance.
Best wishes, Shrinking Assets teammates! Let’s go!!10
