Wonderful photos, Vail! Wow!
I’m feeling anxious on your behalf about the high and low calorie days. I keep thinking that I wish someone had kicked me in the behind when I started rationalizing my decisions to eat more and the wrong things back when I had lost 60 pounds. I ended up gaining all but 20 back. You’ve worked so hard and are doing so well. Maybe you just needed a break for a couple days but now you can reign yourself in and get back on track. Having your clothes fit better is such a great feeling of accomplishment! Do you have a dress or pants or something that you would love to get into? Maybe hang those up where you can see them and try them on every once in awhile. Again, you are doing so great and I know you can do this!
Yesterday was the first day since I’ve been exercising that I was able to keep my calories a bit below my daily goal. I wasn’t feeling hungry all day. I guess that’s a non scale victory? I just felt really good about my day.1 -
just a quick note as im falling asleep on my feet but Vail LOVED the photos .. look at that wing span on the peregrine falcon.. wowsa!! i know its a struggle transitioning from really low to a mix and no doubt your hormones are jumping in there to drive u bonkers as well.. i heard somewhere recently that over 60 our hormones are so wonky that the ones that make us hungry INCREASE and the ones that make us feel satiated decrease... seriously?? like we dont have enough to deal with... but i know you can figure it out what will work for you... maybe give yourself a couple of weeks to track and make sure you aren't going up (other than the 1-2 lb fluctuation either way)... if u see it creeping above the 2 then u can tweak it a bit if needed? that sucks on the new scales btw... but the huge NSV's you've had are to remember and raise high on your trophy shelf!!
Suzy .. well done on your great day... and yes its an NSV as well.. and most importantly, the fact that YOU felt really good about your day is also a huge win!! So glad the boots worked out for your trial run..!!

Vail, just wondering if kitty cat secretly sabotaged the scales? Lol.0
-
Well done on keeping your calories within your goal, Suzy. And not feeling hungry! Maybe you are adapting.
I'm still using the old scales as I can't get the new scales to sync to MFP. So I'm not sure how accurate my weight is. I'm still tracking my weight in the app with my new scales and also looking at my body fat % and visceral fat. The kitty cat has managed not to void any bodily fluids on the new scales so far.
Yes, the higher calorie days are a bit of a danger area. I went out for lunch with friends today and ate far too much. So will be back on low cal tomorrow. I hear you, Suzy, so often I have made excuses and just let my weight creep up because I'm eating too much. So I need to keep this in hand. The high calorie days are about 1500-1600 if I was following the menu plan for the diet, so not massively high, but probably to high for me.
Interesting about the hormones, Snoozie. I remember seeing a TV programme years ago that said that obesity also alters the hormones, so that rather than having the natural peaks and troughs of hunger and satiety, obese people tend to be stuck at a level where they're always slightly hungry and hardly ever satieted. A bit annoying that age only makes this get worse! I was talking to a slightly older friend of mine who lost weight recently and she said the only way was Mediterranean, low carb and very low calorie - nothing else worked.0 -
I think my calorie goal day was a fluke. I keep reading that last sentence you wrote, Vail. I wonder if I need to do something drastic and go very low calorie or something. I can’t seem to make myself stick to 1350 a day though, so how could I go lower and expect to stick with it? I keep telling myself that I must not want it bad enough because I keep making questionable decisions with my eating.
I’m going to a watercolor class Monday through Thursday and we’re going out of town Friday to Sunday. So, no exercise classes for me…just when I was getting into a routine. I signed up for this watercolor class months ago and I’m looking forward to it. I’m planning to walk after dinner each night to make sure I don’t have to completely start over with exercising. We’re going hiking in the morning and hopefully my new shoes will work out.
High calorie days of 1500-1600 doesn’t sound that high, Vail. How does your program work? You’re into the next phase, right? This is still a weight loss phase not maintenance? This is a transition from low calorie to mid calorie? It sounds like a really logical approach. You sure have done fantastic with it!

Don't pay too much attention to that last sentence! I just thought it was interesting. It was somebody I've known a long time and she has successfully done 5:2 before but this time she did something similar to me and thought that was the only thing that would work. Personally, I think it probably varies, and isn't for everybody.
Although yet another friend did it and she has reversed her diabetes and dropped her blood pressure and cholesterol!
The approach I've been doing is called Fast 800, if you want to look it up. I've been wary about mentioning it as I know MFP doesn't recommend low calories. But it is based on clinical trials and is used by the NHS here. The initial studies used meal replacements I think, and were aimed at reversing diabetes. It was originally 8 weeks, but you can do up to 12 weeks in my programme. There's no evidence for going beyond the 12 weeks so they say you have to eat more, even if still trying to lose weight.
The 1500-1600 calories are just the count from the meal plan and they are the same for everybody, regardless of age, sex, size, etc., which is one thing I don't really agree with! The idea is that you mix these higher calories with two 800 calorie days a week, so a kind of intermittent fasting. I'm in the "transition" so still having some more 800 calorie days. Then when you get to goal, the idea is that you carry on with the Mediterranean eating but just eat to satiety.
This is odd, but I found the 800 calories every day much easier to stick to than what I'm doing now. You get into a routine with it and I didn't tend to get hungry. It does sound really low, but it's not for me - I'm definitely way overweight, but because I'm short I'm not particularly heavy, so don't need a lot. And I have a very high body fat% still! But the thing for me was that 800 didn't seem any harder to stick to than, say, 1200 or more. I wish I could go back to it but don't want to do anything that isn't recommended healthwise.
I'm not in promoting this diet over anything else - as I say it's quite individual and as we've said before it's mainly about mindset. If it's easier to stick to 1300 calories (or any other approach) then that's going to work better than trying for 800 calories and not sticking to it. And although the studies have had good long-term results, I know plenty of people do the 12 weeks and then relapse. I did in 2020. I can't remember if I mentioned I was doing it then because it's a bit frowned on, but I did it successfully, then regained about half the weight again. So it's not any sort of magic pill. I haven't had dramatic weight loss like some people either. Although I'm really pleased with my waist. 27 inches! I didn't expect to see that while still being overweight! Was aiming just to get it under 30.
I imagine the watercolour class will be good for your health, so don't feel bad about it interrupting your exercise routine! Fingers crossed for the new shoes!1 -
Vail - unless MFP is monitoring the groups, you KNOW we here have always been supportive of doing whatever works best for each of us ... and there would never be any judgement from me and Suzy (I feel confident i can speak for her on this either lol) or you about ours .. as to any program any of us choose to follow..
we have all been at this long enough (i'm pretty sure none of us want to actually count the decades!) that we realize one shoe does not fit all... so please never worry about have to put disclaimers in with us about not promoting anything lol.. - we have always shared information between ourselves and various methods we have/are trying.... and that's all it ever is with us.. i personally love hearing about different ways and the science behind it.. we are not 19 year olds trying to lose 10 lbs before a wedding like 1/2 them on here... that's actually why i started this group originally - just to find other women my own age who were dealing with real weight loss struggles combined with age, menopause, family responsiblities and all the other hats we wear... so thank you for sharing your journey details!!
omg...seirously ?? 27 " waist?? why are you not doing the dance of joy and jumping to the moon back and forth LOL HONESTLY .. i don't think i have had that size waist since i was 14 lol.. WELL DONE.. super well done!!
Suzy how fabulous on the watercolor class!!! Can't wait to hear how it goes.. and a lovely hike over the weekend while you're away.. will keep my fingers crossed the boots hold up and you remain pain free!0 -
27? TWENTY SEVEN?!!! What? Oh my gosh! That is fantastic! I’ve read so much about how belly fat is an indicator of total over all health. It’s the worst fat to have. And you’re at 27 inches? I’m with Snoozie, I haven’t seen that size waist since my teens! Way to go, Vail!
We weren’t able to go hiking today. Hubby was called to work at 1:00am until 5:00am, so he didn’t get much sleep. We did a little yard work instead.
I would never judge you on your weight loss approach unless it was obviously hurting your health, but I think we’re all smarter than that now. I know that I could never sustain the 800 calorie daily goal. Unless I did a fasting approach that I know you’ve done and I’ve read about. I’m just trying to incorporate good fats, protein, grains, no sugar, oats, plenty of water, limited artificial sugar and caffeine, veggies, fish, limited read meat….all into 1300 calories a day. Lol. Piece of cake…which I can’t have. Lol.
Heading to the park with my granddaughter! Have a great evening, y’all!0 -
Watercolor class is going well. I’m learning so much! Also, side benefit: I’m too busy to snack! Lol. I’m hoping the scale will reflect that lack of snacking soon.
We’re driving to Alabama for my uncle’s funeral Friday morning then to Mississippi for my niece’s school performance that evening. We’ll be coming home on Sunday. I’m really really hoping that I can manage my calorie intake while away from home. I’m not usually very good at that.
How are y’all doing?0 -
Suzy.. condolences on your uncle's passing.. i hope you enjoy your nieces concert i know she will be thrilled to have you there
lol @ the too busy to snack!! That's a great strategy! Im so glad you are enjoying the watercolor class.. you'll have to show us a pic at some point of your work!! Puh leeze !!!
Same same here.. a little busy with the RC right now... which is good... and also keeps me too busy to snack much either lol. but im not drinking enough water at all so that's something i will have to look at!
Vail hope all is well in your world .. will check in later to see how everyone is!1 -
Thank you, Snoozie. He turned 90 recently and has had health issues for over a decade. We were actually on our way to pick up my parents and take them to see him for an overnight when I got the call. It was hard telling my mom but it wasn’t unexpected.
You’ll have to let us know what the RC has you doing! Ditto on the water.
Vail, I saw your loss and it looks like you’re doing well on NOT gaining back! That’s awesome! You’ll get the hang of the higher calorie days and will be dropping lower soon. I just know it! Fluctuation is to be expected but you’re keeping it at just a couple pounds, right? That’s great!
1 -
Safe travels on your trip Suzy! Vail i had to laugh at your post in the newsfeed about the cat messsing up your scales!!
Without going into too much detail, we are at the airport for the next few weeks, assisting travellers from Ukraine. Everyone has been lovely knowing its my first time so im very grateful for that. Because we are at both terminals there is a fair bit of walking some shifts between the two so i think i'm down a pound or two.. but im not logging as i suspect on my days off coming up i'll be eating a lot more lol.. but i'm definitely getting my 10,000 steps in most nights! I'm off for a walk as we are having quite a nice day1 -
That’s awesome and such necessary and meaningful work, Snoozie!0
-
Oh what's going on... I was sure I'd posted here but can't see it, and the post is still sitting here!
I'm sorry about your uncle, and I bet it was difficult telling your mum, Suzy. I'm so lucky to still have my father in his 90s but I do think it's hard for the ones left as they lose their siblings and most of the rest of their generation.
I'm glad the watercolour class is going well! What a great thing to do! I have loved any art classes I've been to. There's a special feeling which comes with creating, and it's good to be learning too. Watercolour is really hard but it sounds like the class is really good.
Your "piece of cake ... which I can't have" comment gave me such a laugh! So true - yes, it's theoretically simple, just eating healthy foods at a calorie deficit. But in practice, not so easy!
Amazing that you are doing that work with the refugees, Snoozie.1 -
I hope all is well with you all. No doubt you are busy!
I've mentioned before that I use trendweight.com to track my progress, and so far it has always been reassuring that I'm on the downward slope with weight. It also tells you how much of a calorie deficit it thinks you have (I presume just be working out how much weight you're losing). That has been interesting, and I've always had an OK deficit, but since transitioning onto higher calorie days, it has gone way down! It's just over 100 at the moment, which would mean over a month to lose one pound, lol.
That's an eye opener, because although I'm having higher calorie days, I didn't think I was eating a huge amount. But clearly I'm eating too much and that's before I even go to 5:2 (I'm on 3:4). Some of that eating hasn't been Mediterranean, no matter how much I tell myself that they do eat cakes in the Mediterranean. But I feel like I'm being careful how much I eat. This just goes to show ... it's happened before that I think I am dieting, but all the time I seem to be eating just enough to maintain my weight rather than lose. 100 calories is cutting it so fine: if I eat a piece of fruit, or overportion something, I could wipe out my deficit for the whole day.
I think this is an issue with us menopausal women. The numbers are so tight, that it doesn't take much to wipe out the deficit. And also I have been feeling complacent. I honestly did not expect to see that 27" waist: I'm over the moon about that, but it's been making me think things like "Oh, my visceral fat must be OK then, it doesn't matter if I have a bit extra subcutaneous fat". Also I don't really feel particularly fat any more. But I am most definitely still overweight by BMI.
So I need to get a grip, and I think I'm going to have to accept that 5:2 is not going to work for me (it didn't before) and I need to focus on calories a bit more. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I stayed at this weight, but the truth of it is that I know I probably need to keep trying to lose to avoid it creeping up again!1 -
Vail, I can hear the frustration in your post. You’ve done so well. 70 pounds is an incredible weight loss. I think I have the idea that if I was to lose the 60 that I want to lose then maintenance would be looser with the calories and a bit easier. Now I see that I’m probably delusional. Lol. I think the important thing is that you’re experienced enough to realize what’s happening and can adapt your approach to meet your goals. We all know that there’s no ONE way to be successful in this endeavor. You have the tools that you need to stay on top of it and make corrections when necessary. The main thing we have to battle is our complacency.
I had my class last week and did great with my daily calories. Didn’t lose a single pound or even fraction of a pound. In fact, I went up a pound. Then we went out of town for three days and I ate like a skinny person who has never heard of a calorie. Needless to say, I was up four pounds yesterday morning. I watched my sick granddaughter for two days and today is my first day to do nothing. I’m taking that literally and have done nothing but sleep late and watch tv. I should have gone to the gym but I just feel exhausted and disappointed in myself. I’ll snap out of it but I just want a day. Lol.
I am feeling frustrated and a bit hopeless about losing this weight. I stuck to my 1350 calorie goal last week and I was hungry all the time. Didn’t lose any weight either. I have heard of something called insulin resistance and how that can keep you from losing weight. What do y’all think about that? I need to read up about it. I’ll get back to my exercise classes next week and that will help.

There has been a lot of articles about insulin resistance in the programme I am doing, Suzy, and yes, they do say it makes it more difficult to lose weight, and I think it's more likely in people our age. In fact the whole of week two of the programme was about insulin and insulin resistance. Of course, what they recommend to reverse it is this very low calorie diet! But also exercise, anti-inflammatory diet and getting enough sleep. I'll see if I can find anything helpful on the website and get back to you.1
-
Well, I've had a look at all the articles on insulin resistance and they are all saying much the same thing and promoting the diet. But I came across this video on the DiRECT website, which I thought was really good at explaining the study the diet is based on and the effects on people with T2 diabetes (which I know isn't the same as insulin resistance, but related). Anyway what jumped out on me later in to the video was the effect on fat in the liver (and other organs), and I thought of your fatty liver disease, Suzy. It's positive that it's possible to change this.
Another thing I found interesting was the piece about metabolic syndrome and the implication (I think, if I understood it correctly) that if you don't have the genes for metabolic syndrome, then weight gain doesn't relate directly to heart disease. (Will need to watch again to check I got the right end of the stick!).
My favourite bit is right at the end when they talk about adapting the diet (which was originally with meal replacements) to fit with local food and culture. There is a Scottish version, which consists of porridge, lentil soup, wholemeal bread, fruit and tea with milk in it, which would so, so suit me (and is actually quite similar to my diet when I've been trying to save money in the past!) that I'm actually thinking of giving this a go for my fasting days. As you know, I've been trying lots of new foods, which is fun and interesting, but I kind of like the idea of just doing a batch of soup (I'd have to add some stock powder, I think) and microwaving it. It's a little bit low in fat, but I could add some in non-fasting days.
Link to the Scottish version, just for interest!

And thanks for your comments, Suzy. They really struck a chord. I had a better day yesterday and had a big think about my weight loss up to now, and thinking what if I hadn't started losing weight again at the end of December. And realised that I'm so glad I did, that I've put that work in and that extra fat has gone, I'm over 20 pounds down now, and at the better end of overweight! I do feel better being slimmer, and have realised I have been a bit ashamed of my extra weight, working in health, with a load of slim people! So I have to remind myself of that, and keep going. It's so good talking here, because I know you understand, we've all lost weight and regained some over the years.
And the other thing I was thinking was to feel grateful that I have the ideal setup for weight loss. Apart from my job and my cat I don't have much responsibilities, no grandchildren to baby sit, one parent who I don't have to do anything for, no husband to cook for, full control over what comes into the house - not saying I'd choose this situation, but for weight loss, it's definitely easier! Your situation sounds much more difficult to me, and I think if I'm struggling when I have the perfect setup, then it must be really hard for you. Especially if you have insulin resistance going on.1 -
Hi guys I know I’ve been MIA I have been reading and I’m going to do a big post tomorrow today is my last shift then two days off - I’m having to use Siri right now so apologies for any typos but vail I love your reflection and recognizing the fact that if you hadn’t started when you did you wouldn’t have that 20 pounds gone and feel so much better right now it’s a good place to stop and reflect on to give you the motivation to keep going for sure you’ve done amazing and I know it may take a bit of tweaking going forward but remember to there are those plateaus where your body has to sort of catch up to where you’ve been and reset itself so I think it’s expected after 20 pounds you might have a couple of weeks of stalling even when you’re doing everything right till your body says OK I’m ready to go again. So keep at it because it will follow you and when it’s ready start to record the loss again. Susie sending hugs to you remember it’s been a challenging couple of months with you with the move and everything going on but you’ll find your right path for sure I don’t know too much about insulin resistant but of course I do about tea too that should’ve read type two diabetes and the only recommendation for that is keeping blood sugar levels at the same level and avoiding big spikes and lows and the suggestions for me were to you cut way down on the useless carbs as they called them And focus And focus more on the carbs coming from veggies. The G.I. diet was recommended then for me and while I looked at it it was a good way to know the glucose level of every food and so to be able to combine meals so there were no spikes in my blood sugar. Well I didn’t follow the diet I did follow the principal Of making sure each meal had a mmOf making sure each meal had The right mix and also that if I did have a high carb food that I also included something that’s called a sugar blocker which is a misnomer really but it’s a food that if you do eat something high in carbs or sugar Will block that sugar from a quick rush into your bloodstream it allows so much more slow release because it’s gotta get through that sugar blocker before I can get into your bloodstream I’ll try to explain it better later anyway I had my last shift tonight for two days so I will definitely catch up tomorrow it’s been very busy but very good1
-
Your Siri typing made me laugh, Snoozie! I just imagined you speaking. I knew that tea too meant type two diabetes before you said. You sound so busy with your volunteer work at the moment!
Oh, I remember the GI diet! It was the big thing, maybe 20 years ago? And I agree, not diabetic, but I think it helped clue me in to how to eat to avoid sugar/insulin spikes, and I still have some of those principles in the back of my mind. I think you explained it well.
It has been quite a long stall for me, about six weeks. However, trendweight is still positively telling me that I'm losing 0.3 lb a week, so at least the trend is still in the right direction. Apparently I will hit my goal weight in August 2023, ha ha!0 -
I know six weeks is really frustrating for you especially since you were losing so consistently. Stay the course. You’ll get there and I bet it will be before August of 2023.
I went to a really beautiful garden today. It’s 300 acres and just gorgeous. Only about half was in bloom today but it was tulips and azaleas and dogwoods. Lovely! I ate more for lunch than usual so made buffalo cauliflower for me for dinner. Of course, then I ate too much because it tasted so good. Lol.
Snoozie, we can’t wait to hear how the volunteering is going!

ha yes sorry i was dictating into my phone with Siri and kept backing up and correcting stuff so it disappeared .. i repeated whatever it was and it came back again lol.. its a great use for small things like create an event in my calendar or send a text to my sister... but not so much for a big post!!
my hand is still messed up a bit (just one of those things that happens a few times a year and dont know why... it swells up like a balloon and i cant flex the fingers or use the hand) thats why i had to use Siri.. it usually only lasts 2-3 days but still a bit hard to type so forgive any typos
ok i started this 2 hrs ago and then fell asleep LOLOL.. so here we go
My work with the RC is going well.. im doing ok with the late nite shifts but i am tired.. i haven't worked this much since i retired lol.. and there's been a bit of a learning curve of course but it's all good. Working at the airport has its challenges people tend to just come up to you and ask you everything!! By now i have a pretty good handle on directions to things like the bathroom, elevators, departures and trains but some of the questions make me have to bite my lip so i don't laugh and say honestly im sorry i have no idea!!
The work is very rewarding but a little frustrating when we can't do more for people in real need.. hopefully that will change soon as govt $ becomes available to distribute. This particular operation is going until the end of the month so i'm definitely getting my 10,000 steps in - and weirdly vail i think i figured out that i've inadvertently been on your low calorie diet... i haven't been eating much.. at home i'll have some yogurt for breakfast, then maybe an orange and then a bit of fish or chicken later but once i head into shift, it's too much trouble to eat because you have to go to the break room or outside, take all the PPE off, eat... put it all back on to return and then put all new stuff on again there. so honestly its just easier not to.. i am hungry when i get home but dont wanna eat right before bed.. so inadvertently i've realized im basically on a low cal diet .. i will def have to work on eating a bit more and also get more veggies in for sure.... it will actually be easier on the late shift 9pm to 3am because i can eat normally at home during the day... the afternoon shift is where i seem to just do the snackage instead. but it has also helped not having access to snacks - when im sitting on the couch at home its easy to go to the cupboard and cruise lol... so that's def been a positive with being out of the house
i'm so glad your trend is still showing down Vail i honestly think your body is just needing a bit to catch up and get used to the new weight before getting ready to release more.. i know how frustrating that can be for sure.. i almost gave up the first few months i came here because nothing was happening.. and i had to play with the calories to find the spot whre i started to actually lose.. weirdly if i remember.. i started at 1200 and nothing was happening.. i went up 100 for a month then up another 100 and i think for me it was around 1400 that i finally started to lose weight.. i still remember reading someones post who said weight loss is not linear - so you will hit plateaus and times when it seems nothing is happening but the consistency and continuing on will work... they never mentioned needing the patience to work thru that tho! so hang in there and keep reminding yourself how far you have come and what you have accomplished!!
Suzy - were the watercolor classes just for that week or are u continuing them? i hope we get to see some of your work.. i don't have a creative bone in my body so i really admire anyone who is.. and yes a little jealous too lol.. how is your foot holding up btw???? inquiring minds wanna know!
righto im really going to hope this posts after the 2 hr gap for my nap lol!
1 -
Wow, you sound so busy! That’s awesome though. Just think how many people you’re helping. Staying busy is the only way I can stick to lower calories.
The class was just last week. I’m hoping to work on my sketching and painting design next week so that I can dabble in watercolor shortly afterwards. I did one actual painting in class. I’ll post a pic but it’s not very good. It was my first time using watercolor and it’s so different from oils and acrylic.
1 -
Okay, it’s not uploading for some reason. I’ll try again later.1
-
I would love to see your work, Suzy! I do think watercolour is so hard. Art was my favourite subject at school, but I didn't really keep it up after I left at 16. I've done the odd thing since, and did attempt watercolour but felt it was just beyond me! What sort of things are you painting? Watercolour always makes me think of painting landscapes, I don't why.
I hope your hand is better soon, Snoozie. What an odd thing, and how frusrating. I hope you eventually manage to find out what's going on and maybe even get a cure for it. It's interesting to hear about your airport work. That sounds like quite hard work! I'm not surprised it's messed up your eating. I used to have real difficulty with shifts when I was younger - mostly with just losing appetite and not eating enough back in those days. On the other hand, as you say, it's keeping you away from food! I do find it easier not to eat at work. I like to be able to relax and enjoy my food! I suppose it does mean you are at risk of eating to little, and I'm aware you lost all that weight due to illness a few months ago.
Interesting about you losing weight when you increased calories. I was practically gaining weight towards the end of my 12 week programme, and funnily enough, it was only when I introduced higher calorie days that I lost a little bit again! I think what I'm going to aim for is to have that variation in calories from day to day. Keep my body guessing, lol! Yes, you are probably both right about just hanging in there while my body adjusts. I definitely feel like something has happened with my body, for the better. To be honest, I think it's partly just being older: when I was last around this weight I was peri-menopausal and I do think our bodies change. This time all the spare flesh seems softer and looser, and it's so strange seeing the bones (hips, ribs, etc.) again while still being overweight. But I do feel I'm in a different body than the one I was in a few months ago.
Buffalo cauliflower sounds great, Suzy! I might have to try some. And what a healthy thing to overeat on!0 -
I didn’t see your comment about your hand, Snoozie. That is so strange. I can’t imagine what it is. Does icing it help? Is it only one hand, the same one every time?
The buffalo cauliflower was so delicious! I’ll be making that again. I’ll try a different recipe next time as this one had a coating with flour to help “crisp” it up a bit. Surely I can do that without the added calories.0 -
Vail i keep meaning to ask - have you been able to synch your new scales yet ? I know you were struggling to get them to hook up with the puter stuff..
Suzy nope hand varies .. sometimes the right, sometimes the left.. i've pretty much given up trying to figure out why it happens, i know it lasts 2-3 days most times and its painful as heck but at least i know that it will go away
i've heard that buffalo cauli is fab - so glad u enjoyed and i'm with Vail.. if you're going to go over cals, cauli is the way to go lol
are you allowed cornstarch? im thinking that would work instead of the flour? altho i can't imagine it takes much flour to coat them ...but since i have no idea how they are made.. maybe they do lol
Vail - your line " it was only when I introduced higher calorie days that I lost a little bit again! " yup was zackly what happened to me as i mentioned.. mind u i did drop down 50 cals at a time a few months into the actual weight loss.. but as that was so long ago now its hard to remember..
But it is funny.. of the hundreds of diets i've been on from Atkins to South Beach and everything inbetween, the G.I. Diet is the only one who's premise stuck with me .. and of course was reintroduced to me in the diabetes class years later.. im pretty sure at one point i had the chart with the green, yellow and red lists on my fridge lol
I managed to get in a few games of pickleball today; it was only 7C but sunny and it felt really good.. i sat out every other game as its been a few weeks since i have been able to play and didn't want to be sore tomorrow but was a lovely Easter treat... altho we did not wear bunny ears on the court lol
Dinner tonite was half a leftover turkey, tomato, and lettuce sandwich and about 1/2 hr later, a bowl of mixed frozen veg.. i didn't realize there was edamame in there when i bought it lol.. but was a nice mix of green beans, baby carrots, peas, corn and edamame. And I actually cooked them in boiling water for 3 min in a pot..i admit im using more frozen veg and they taste better done in a pot.. i have found using the micro for frozen veg isnt great, and i would normally have steamed fresh but have to say with the short cooking time they stayed crispy (the green beans) and for a fast, filling meal it def hit the spot. And definitely a lot less waste for me with the frozen ones.. i'll be very glad to see fresh produce at the markets in the summer but for now its quite handy for one person.
Righto.. that's all i got lol.. except Suzy i hope you can get the pics to upload! and i dont know if u missed me asking how your foot was? hoping all is good?0 -
Happy Easter y’all! We had a wonderful day with egg hunts for our granddaughter and brunch with our son in law’s family. We also got news that our son is now engaged! His fiancé is the girl from Vancouver and we just love her. So very happy for them!
I have absolutely no idea how to log my calories for today so I’m not even going to try. It was all delicious and I was able to control myself. Will miracles never cease!
I’m glad you were able to play PB with your hand hurting. Hopefully that means that it’s feeling better. My foot is maybe feeling a bit better? I’m not sure. It still feels like there’s a rock in my shoe but maybe now it’s more of a smooth flat pebble? Lol. I’m heading back to the Y for a HIIT class in the morning. I’ve got to get back in the routine. My hip is hurting again now that I haven’t been exercising and stretching. It’s hell getting old.0 -
Happy Easter! Glad you had such a lovely day, Suzy, and what happy news! That is just lovely. You now have a wedding to look forward to: I hope you keep us updated!
Also fantastic that you were able to enjoy your food and keep in control. It's so easy to overeat. I hope the HIIT class goes OK - oh, I forgot about that when I was reluctantly doing my workout earlier. I have to keep that in mind "at least I'm not doing Suzy's HIIT class", lol!
We've had some sun here, and I got out for a walk which I haven't been doing recently, just along the river, wandering around town, had a coffee outdoors, sat in some gardens and watched the world go by. I was delighted to see one of my favourite bakers still has staff wearing masks! I have missed my baker trips while doing this low calorie (no bread) diet.
No, I haven't managed to get the new scales to sync yet. So complicated. There is a bluetooth app for the scales, but then another app to sync the data with MFP through wifi, and it's the second app that doesn't seem to work - seems lots of people have had problems with it. My previous scales were wi-fi and I didn't have to do anything with them. However, at the moment the readings on both sets are fairly close, so I'm still using the old ones to upload to MFP, then using the new ones to look at visceral fat, etc (which doesn't work any more on my old ones after the cat barf incident). So at the moment, the figures on MFP are probably fairly accurate again, if my old scales are in the right mood. I do get a lot of both gains and losses due to weighing daily, but there still seems to be that slight downward trend. Trendweight has even brought forward my goal by a couple of months!
