Well it's official - i planted the last crops in my community garden today lol.. I have lettuce, spinach, tomatos, carrots, peppers and green onion in there.... keep your fingers crossed something grows !!!! ha - the little stake i'm holding says "Sue's Garden"

Vail - you BETTER keep posting your achievements !!! That's why we are here after all - to support, encourage and celebrate every victory !! honestly i think that's one of the things that kept me going during my initial long journey - seeing others COULD do it!!
That's too funny you learned about the eyeball direct stare in your course! i usually use it when i'm walking - you literally have to spin your head 360 for cars turning right and left into the crosswalk and not even looking.. but I do find it works well if you stare right at the driver. Mind you - i still watch for idiots and i'll wait if i see someone obviously not paying attention and who look like they might be coming my way!
I'm so glad you are meeting your friend and getting a walk in !! I really underestimated the social aspect of being with friends during the pandemic.. to be fair i still haven't seen many of them in person yet but at least have been able to get together a few times and its just been lovely - i hope you had a great time!
My TV died yesterday so this morning i lugged it and an old computer monitor - the big desktop type with the huge back end down to the car and over to the recycling centre. i borrowed the condo flat trolly to take them down but i had to carry them out to the hallway to put them on it... and it had a wonky wheel so i had to fight with it all the way and it weighed a ton lol I figured that was my strength training for today!
I am treating myself to a pedicure for the first time in 3 years tomorrow.... the place i picked is a little more expensive than the regular price, but they are still using full covid practices and have switched out the jet foot thingies for stainless steel and liners because you can sanitize those .. and they use all disposable one time use files and things social distancing and you have to be masked so i figured for my peace of mind it was worth the extra $20. and i booked it for right at opening so i can be in and out before any crowd lol. i prefer doing my own manicures but i do love a pedi... i bought a pair of flip flops at the dollar store so i dont smudge em ha. im not sure i can actually walk in them tho !!0 -
I would have paid extra for a covid safe pedicure! I think that's worth it! You're probably not going to catch covid through your feet, but it's nice to know they take hygiene so seriously and are maybe helping prevent other things being passed on. I think as we have underlying conditions, it's still worth being careful. And it would be nice to just relax and enjoy it!
So funny that you had one of those old computer monitors! They are antiques! My TV was like that - the cathode ray type which is really big and heavy. I got rid of it during a declutter about three years back. I can watch TV on my computer screen (which is a flat screen!), so I didn't buy a new one. It doesn't sound easy lugging that stuff around. Another reason to keep healthy and do strength training, to keep our independence.
My walk was lovely and I did indulge in tea and cake afterwards. And then stayed up late to watch Eurovision so ended up eating more, and weight predictably up this morning. Back on it today! It was glorious sunscreen weather yesterday. People were swimming in the river we walked by.1 -
I love the picture of the garden! With the whirly windmills that you mentioned! It will be great watching the plants grow. I didn't realise it was raised like that, but I suppose it will be easier on your back and knees.0
-
lol Vail - all the beds are raised.. there are 12 of the oval ones like mine, and 3 wooden ones that are even higher about chest height that belong to the food banks and community groups.. everything is onsite locked in a shed from hoses to water buckets and tools and the rainbarrels are along the fence line inside. I happen to have a lovely bench right behind mine how convenient lol. You can be sure i'lll be showing off anything green that pops up along the way!!
the pedi was lovely.. my feet are happy! I just went with a boring basic light pink polish - it was more about getting everything cleaned up and pretty again ha... then i wandered around our lovely tourist area called Port Credit for about 1/2 hr til the toes were dry enough. And i may have picked up a lemon cupcake at a little shop to bring home lol
im so glad you had such a lovely time with your friend and that you indulged in the tea and cake afterward too!! There's nothing wrong with an occasional indulgence, i think we need to remember that so we can enjoy without any recriminations or guilt - it's keeping it to the occasional that i usually struggle with haha

I just saw this somewhere on facebook and loved it so decided to share!!

Oh! I love the raised garden! Did they fill it most of the way with soil? You didn’t have to bring in that much, did you?! If I didn’t have to do all that kneeling and squatting, even I may give gardening a shot. Lol. It looks like you’re off to a wonderful start!
Eye contact with drivers sounds like an excellent idea! It would make me so nervous to ride around much traffic. The only time I really rode a bicycle was in Amsterdam and they have fantastic bike lanes. In fact, bikes have the right of way over there.
I haven’t had a manicure or pedicure in ages. I don’t really like having my feet messed with. Lol. I could certainly benefit from both though.
We had our granddaughter all day and overnight yesterday. I’m so exhausted! She’s also transitioning from a crib to a bed and hasn’t got the hang of it yet. I ended up putting her little toddler bed in our room and making a pallet next to it for me to sleep on. So, not a lot of sleep last night. Lol. Having her here was so fun! We also found a great park right downtown (about a five minute drive) and it has a walking trail! It’s next to the pavilion where they hold the Farmer’s Market. We went to the market but it’s a bit early for any veggies. I did get some farm fresh eggs and local honey.
1 -
Suzy yes - its a brand new community garden, so they were filled with soil and compost by the city late in the fall... i just dug it all up and added in a bag of triple mix to start off. And yes.. that was def a benefit knowing it was going to be raised gardens - no way could i squat and kneel these days at all
awesome on the park/trail find!! and I bet you're exhausted - my cousin just had their 2 yr old grandson with them for a week as one of the parents had covid.. he was with the other set of grandparents for a week so at least he wasnt anywhere near his mom before she got it, but my cousin went and picked him up from the other grandparents and brot him home with them for the week til she was no longer transmissible. her message today said - had a wonderful time with elliot.. now in recovery mode LOLOLOL..
i dont think our farmers market opens til mid june this year.. i'll have to check that out.1 -
You are such a brilliant grandparent, Suzy, definitely going above and beyond with the sleep situation! I remember if my son was in a strange place he would often fall out of bed... but stay asleep! I'd just have to pick him up and put him back in. Fine to do at that age, now I'm not very good at having my sleep disturbed so I really admire you! Toddlers are exhausting anyway. But I do really love that age - such fun!
I love that you have a bench just there, Snoozie. You could just sit and watch the plants grow. If it's next to your plot then it's your bench so be sure to chuck anyone off if they're sitting there, lol! Just kidding ... it might be nice if it becomes the social hub of that part of the garden!
I'm now feeling guilty about not doing more in my garden. I'm quite lucky to have one, I suppose. If nothing else it's handy for drying laundry! But I should make more of it.0 -
Vail.. i choked on my coffee when i read your comment to chuck anyone off if they are sitting on my bench LOL.. when i used to walk along the lake i had a favourite spot 1/2 way along the trail where the perfect bench looked out over the water, and i would get SO annoyed if i saw people sitting on it when i was headed there.. it was like "that's MY bench... away you go!"
as far as feeling guilty about not doing more in your garden Vail? this is more the reality for me to be honest:

Well, i had my long awaited (6 months) phone appointment with the hematologist this morning.. he called 20 min before the appointment time - first time EVER a doc has been early for an apt hahaha
He was very thorough; had gone over bloodwork since 2012 - long story short altho some of the counts had been wonky and weird, they all appear to be "consistent" which he said was a good sign..so where i am high im kinda consistently high etc.. he said for serious disease the count(s) go only one way and get worse..... so he said you may just be one of those peeps who are just outside the "normal range" with the white blood cells.. anyway when going over my meds he said i see you have Graves disease... i said umm.. not that i know of?? But apparently that's what the hyperthyroid prob is called.. after he said that i seemed to recall my endocrinologist mentioning something about it.. but not that i had it ha.
Anyway.. i was impressed he had thoroughly gone through all the bloodwork over a long period of time.. and he noticed my RA (rheumatoid arthritis) indicator had been really high but that the specialist i was sent to said nope just regular osteo arthritis.. but he asked me about my joint pain and stuff and some other questions so he was pretty thorough considering he's a blood specialist. oh and he did mention altho my hemoglobin was good, my iron was low so i bet my doc is going to put me back on those darn iron pills... but im thinking that could be from the gut bug too.. so i plan to chow down on a few steaks in the near future to up that iron!
So long story not so short after all lol.. he's sending me for some more bloodwork and an ultrasound on my spleen... just to make sure everything is ok i gather.. and he will follow up with me after those are done.
So now that i am not tied to the phone i am going to actually get some long overdue cleaning and chores done around here.. thankfully its raining today so no excuse not to get at it ha..
Suzy when do you leave on your trip????1 -
Snoozie, I’m not sure if the news is good or just “to be continued.” It’s great that there are no big red flags though, right? I bet you’re right about the iron. Your system went through a lot not so long ago. I’m sure it takes awhile to build your levels back up to normal. I love it when you find a doctor that is thorough and thoughtful and willing to spend time discussing everything with you. Keep us posted.
We don’t leave until June 6. I’ve got three weeks.0 -
That sounds like a really good appointment, Snoozie. It's good that he spent time looking over previous results and checking nothing was being missed, and loooking into alternative diagnosises. It will be good to have the extra tests just in case. Really good that he explained it all to you too, why he wasn't worried about your odd results and why he wanted more tests, etc.
I had a doctor's appointment too yesterday, a bit frustrating as I was working in the office that day, they don't let you change the day and you don't get a time for the call! So I was trying to talk about let's just say "women's things" in the office, and I couldn't hear the doctor very well, but the upshot is that I've been presribed HRT. Are any of you on it? I've been in a dilemma over whether to get it. The positive thing was she was going through the risk factors and one was my BMI, but I was able to say that I'd changed it!0 -
Suzy.. i'm considering it "good" news as nothing big jumped out and the followup tests are more precautionary in my mind.. and bonus i get to eat a few steaks ha..
Vail.. omg... seriously you had to do that appointment in the office??? Was there not someone's private office you could have asked to use?? GAK!! i can't believe they won't even give you a time.. here they do say it could be an hour off either side of the time of the apt with a phone call.. but still.. im sure THAT was fun trying to have the womens things talk around everyone... yeesh!!
I haven't ever looked into HRT, and i don't have any friends that have been on it.. I went into menopause around 50 and didn't have too many hot flashes or the myriad of symptoms some of my friends had.. but i know HRT is not only for relief of menopause symptoms, it is also used for bone health and heart health i think?? or at least that's what i have heard.. so basically im no help at all lol
i bet that felt awesome being able to tell her you'd changed your BMI!
i still have this week off before i go back on deployment and I've been abysmally lazy catching up on the chores around here... so i am determined to get all those liquor bottles emptied and taken out to the recycling today! I'm on rain barrel duty with a few of the other gardeners this week but unfortunately the rain we had yesterday didn't last long enough to fill them so i'll head over this morning and start on that.. maybe there will be a few shoots peeking thru .. i mean.. they've had 2 days to grow already right?? hahaha0 -
Vail, how awkward! I hope you were able to get all the info you needed though. I also know nothing about HRT. I didn’t have a very hard time with menopause symptoms so I never pursued a treatment. I know it’s used for other things but have no idea. What a triumph to say that your BMI had improved so much!!!
Snoozie, I love steak! Definitely a bonus! I think I’ve heard that beets have lots of iron? I like to add them to my tossed salad. Maybe spinach and raisins? I don’t know. Steak is better. Lol.
Your comment about shoots already showing made me think about that joke “I ate a salad for lunch, why haven’t I lost any weight yet?” Lol. It does seem like plants grow overnight though. Fingers crossed for you!
I’m off for a walk at the new park. I want to check out their trail. Have a great day (evening for you, Vail).1 -
lol Suzy - yup same concept as the salad for lunch!! i hope you enjoyed the new park and checked out the trail!
Def lots of veg are relatively high in iron - surprisingly some of them like spinach and ..maybe beets? A few of them anyway the iron is actually absorbed better by your body if they are slightly cooked instead of raw.. i think its mostly lthe leafy greens like kale and collards and spinach where the outer fibrous layer is quite tough and your body doesnt get a chance to absorb the minerals and iron before its thru your digestive tract.. i remember the nutrionist telling me that - even just a minute or 2 to wilt the spinach or other greens before adding to a salad makes them much more beneficial..
funny i remember it because i was eating a lot of spinach salads back then LOLOL.. and i remember thinking i wasted my time with them cause they were raw (of course i didnt lol. its still good for you!)
you reminded me too i learned its a diff kind of iron in veggies and i think now you mention it, the plant kind is more easily absorbed than the red/organ meats.. altho they are still considered the best source of iron overall... so i'm thinking if i combine a steak with some spinach on the side... it will be a double win HAHAHA. Yup i can justify eating anything!!! hahaha
Vail - after all you went thru with that phone call, i do hope the HRT helps!!0 -
I need to get up to date, but they used to say iron from meat, etc., was better absorbed than vegetable iron, but that vitamin C might help with absorption, so the steak and spinach is ideal! (Oh, and not to drink tea with meals as it interfere's with absorption, but maybe not an issue if you're not British!) If I was low in iron it's the one time I'd really go for red meat, I think, as you can practically see the iron in it! It's not usual to get low in iron at our age, but maybe you are right that it's that gut bug still having an effect.
I had an absolutely awful time going through menopause! But back then they didn't prescribe HRT if you had existing heart disease. I just don't know what to do, as it seems to be heart protective but only if you don't already have heart disease. And I have some other risk factors. But then I worry about the risk if I don't take it - increased risk of osteoporisis, dementia, etc. I do still have some symptoms, but I can live with them. Just struggling to make the best choice. I think it's great that there's more choice now in health, but what I find is that I don't feel expert enough to make that choice! And there is pressure from friends, the media, etc.
Yes, I've spent much, much more on growing vegetables than I've ever saved! But it is satisfying, and nice to have really fresh veg. Which reminds me, I keep meaning to try to grow some chervil. I love it, but can't buy it in the shops.0 -
I don’t even know what chervil is, so you’re way ahead of me. Lol. I didn’t know about the raw vs cooked veggies for iron. I’ve never had low iron. Probably because we eat red meat too often. We do love our steaks. Lol.
I’m sorry that you’re going through this with the HRT. There’s just so much to learn about this getting older thing. Today someone told me that I should get my testosterone level checked. Apparently that’s a thing now. I was talking about how I feel so tired all the time and this could be the cause. Jeez. It’s always something!
The walking trail is a paved trail and not super long or pretty but it’s convenient and good for exercise. There’s a set of stairs that you can add in and they have exercise equipment along the trail. It’s kind of cool. I think it would be a good option to add in once or twice a week. Along with the HIIT class a couple times a week and hiking on Sundays. That’s what I’m shooting for anyway. I just have to get out there early in the day because there’s no shade and it’s getting so hot.0 -
Yes, testosterone is definitely I thing! It's not usually prescribed in the UK. I have a friend who has some from a private clinic. I'm actually a lot better now than I was a few years ago, so could have done with the HRT back then rather than now. I'm so confused by it all! There are big campaigns in the UK at the moment to get menopause treated with HRT and about the risks of not doing it. I've got the patches now, but haven't actually applied them yet. I kind of feel everything has settled down and I don't want to rock the apple cart! I have done so much reading and just can't seem to work out what's best to do, in my particular case. However if I didn't have my particular risk factors, I think it would be an easy choice to take HRT - I think modern HRT is better than it used to be, and you want to start it sooner after menopause rather than later.
I've looked up various sources including original papers, etc. but there's more accessible information out there. I was recommended Menopause Barbie Taylor, a retired gynecologist, who has a youtube channel with a (very long!) course on menopause https://www.youtube.com/c/MenopauseTaylor/playlists . And the clinic my friend goes to is this one https://www.newsonhealth.co.uk/resources/ Louise Newson, who appears on TV a lot here. Neither of them really cover my particular case, but useful for general information. (Although I am aware that both of them are making money out of it!).
The walking trail being paved might not be a bad thing, in that it might be better if the weather isn't great, and you could do it in ordinary shoes! I love the idea of exercise equipment along the way! Funny to think of it getting hot. We have had a couple of hotter days here, but nothing like what you experience! It's going up to what Alexa tells me is 66F today (converting from celsius!) which should be quite nice. Last night, I was able to eat my evening meal outside. I bought a little bistro table and chair so I can sit out and eat. I'm on a main road, but it's only really busy during commuting times so not too much noise in the evenings.
I remember hearing about the cooked vegetable thing ages ago, but can never remember which vegetables. I have a feeling that mushrooms are another one that are better cooked. Also having fat with vegetables is supposed to be good for absorption, isn't it? I have been adding some olive oil, butter, even mayonnaise with veg (in small quantities!).
I've been thinking of you taking out your liquor bottles, Snoozie, and all the neighbours thinking you have a drink problem if you're going through it so fast, ha ha!
Apparently chervil is also known as French parsley. It's lovely in an omelette.1 -
Ha!!! I got quite a chuckle out of the image of Snoozie’s neighbor’s eyes popping at the number of liquor bottles. Lol. Your little bistro table and eating al fresco sounds wonderful.
It’s supposed to be 90 (32c) degrees tomorrow. Yes, it’s getting hot!!! I’m going to try and get a walk in before 9:00 am.0 -
LOL on the liquor bottles! I live in a condo, so we have a room full of large tall recycling bins... i just piled them in a box in my buggy so nobody saw me hahaha. I do have a friend however who lives on a street in a house... .. who has been known to go out after dark and drop bottles in her neighbours reycycling bins on garbage day to spread them out!
I am totally jealous of your little table and chair for dinner Vail.. when i was renting a townhouse years ago we had a lovely backyard and i would sit out in the mornings with my coffee and the birds... and often ate there as well!
isnt the testosteron testing part of HRT ? altho im not all the knowledgable on either thing but i thot that was part of the HRT testing to figure out the estrogen/testosterone levels for the medication? I honestly never gave the HRT any thought . prob because nobody i know is on it or has talked about it but i really hope it works out for you Vail.. i can understand your hesitation too... i would be the same wondering if things are going along pretty good do i want to mess with it... BUT... if it has the added benefits for you for the heart health aspect as well... it sounds like you really did your homework investigating the treatment !
There are certain foods that are better with some kind of fat for absorbtion.. and vitamin C is a help to absorb iron and i think vitamin k from leafy greens? honestly.. who can remember it all lol. i only remember the cooking of certain greens because i was miffed i was eating a lot of raw spinach.
Weirdly she also told me flax seed loses its "power" if heated... and at the time i had been adding it to my oatmeal then nuking it (the steel cut oatls you can do in the micro).. so i was like . really?? NOW you tell me.. so tell me how come so many breads and baked goods with flax seed are out there? they had to have been heated to bake it right?? i also remember her telling me the dempsters whole grain breads are "dessert"... when you look at the actual ingredients list its like 5 lines long... she was also the one who taught me to read ingredients and labels and decipher them too... so i'm not complaining i just remember certain things because i happened to be eating them at the time i was seeing her lol
Suzy way cool on the trail! i actually prefer paved trails.. i'm a klutz at the best of time, and walking on uneven ground or grass is harder for me and im more likely to take a header or twist my ankle on those, so i do like paved or flat gravel... that is WAY cool on the exercise equip along the trail! i've heard of them starting that kind of thing here but i haven't seen any ...
I checked on my garden tonite... gave it a water .. there are some little green shoots starting very tiny so far and i think it's the peppers.... the seedlings are still intact but no sign of the stuff i actually used seeds for LOLOL.. i know... i know.... try again in 6 weeks hahahaha.. but like suzy said with the salad.. i want it now!! some of the gardens look better because they used all actual plants not seeds... i may have some garden envy happening! hahaha1 -
Y’all inspired me to drink my morning tea and eat my breakfast on my screened porch this morning. It was so nice! All the leaves have filled in so it’s totally private. Just the birds, squirrels and rabbits. I’ll have to do that more often. We like to eat dinner out there when it’s not so hot.
I laughed out loud at your friend spreading out her liquor bottles. That’s so funny! I wonder if people ever see a bottle in their bin and wonder if their spouse is drinking secretly. Lol.
I don’t know if I should have my testosterone checked or not. I honestly don’t think I would have a pellet injected in my butt cheek or use cream if my level is low. Why test it if I’m not willing to take the hormone? I’ve just been so leery of hormone supplements but I don’t have any hard facts to back that up. Vail, you’ve done the research and I know you’ll do what you’re most comfortable with. You’re a smart cookie!
I walked the city park trail again today. I need to start earlier than 9:30. It’s so hot. I need to shoot for 8:00 I think.
Fingers crossed on all the little seedlings! We desperately need some rain here, possibly Sunday. There’s a wine and art festival in Dahlonega this weekend. It’s a very quaint little town about 20 minutes from us. I’m hoping to check it out if it doesn’t rain. We’re watching our granddaughter on Saturday
Have a great weekend!1 -
Funny, about the flax, Snoozie. If I have flax with porridge I always add the ground seeds raw after cooking the porridge. Hadn't thought about why I do that, but I must have heard the same as you, ages ago! I don't know the ingredients in my bread: I usually get it from the bakers but I think it's just the usual flour, yeast, etc. I do sometimes buy the seeded ones, and I think the seeds do add nutrition, fibre and taste, even if they lose a bit through the cooking.
There is no testing for HRT here. Well, testing exists but I think if you are post-menopausal and have the symptoms, it's guaranteed that your hormone levels are low. Testosterone isn't licensed for women in the UK, so no point in testing levels if you're not going to get it! My friend did manage to get some through a private clinic but it's rare. Talking of all this, I have a friend who is transitioning (male to female) which is a whole other ball game (no pun intended). Very difficult for her to get hormone therapy, and looks like it might take about ten years, which is difficult when she's older anyway. At least she doesn't have to worry about not enough testosterone!
The one I have been prescribed is continuous oestrogen and progesterone patches. I have a very small supply to try out and still haven't used them! One of the side effects is weight gain!! So apart from the other worries, I feel I should maybe get closer to goal weight before I start.
Goal weight is a bit further away, following a meal out with friends, where I dread to think how many calories I ate (still not getting this smaller stomach that I've had previously! Ate loads, including a pudding and custard, and didn't even feel bloated! Which in some ways, is good, but I almost feel I should have suffered as penance, ha ha! Would have been back on it yesterday, but succumbed to cheese and jalapeno foccaccia from the bakers. I was due to go for a meal out today as well but it has been cancelled and I'm kind of relieved. I seem to have no middle ground when eating out between eating nothing at all, and eating all the things.
Lovely that you have plants growing already, Snoozie! I have not had much success sowing seeds, even with going through all the faff of starting them indoors, pricking them out, etc. So I would have been tempted to buy the plants to be honest! Good that you've started with the seeds though. You can see what comes up and if there are any gaps, I suppose you could stick in some plants of your choice!
I hope you enjoy the wine and art festival, Suzy. It sounds like a great place you have moved to, with all these trails and events!

Vail - any breads or even cookies and other things baked at home or in an actual bakery are far better than the commercial breads like dempsters or wonder - at home and bakery are always made with the fewest ingreds.. the dave's killer bread (seeded) is the only commercial one i've been able to find that doesn't have added sugar salt and all the additives on the label on the commercial ones I do remember the nutrionist saying if you want a chocolate chip cookie or a brownie or whatever make it at home and enjoy one.. because there will only be a few ingreds in them... but to stay away from any boxed cookies or baked stuff like donuts etc... of course i didn't see any need to tell her if i baked cookies.. it wouldn't be just one ha
you were smarter than me adding your flax after cooking the oatmeal! as far as your meal out with friends.. you KNOW it didn't "set you back"... you simply had a free day to enjoy not only the different food but the SOCIAL aspect which is just as good for your mental health! So just consider that you did something that brought you joy and nourished your soul instead!
Suzy i hope you get to the festival on sunday! sounds like something i would love to do! I don't know if i told you guys im going to new brunswick for 5 days in June.. my cousin arranged a wine tour in Nova scotia as a belated birthday present for my sister and her sister and she invited me to come and surprise my sister.. so i got a great seat sale and booked the flights.. but it turns out i may have to tell my sister in advance now .... long story but they want to leave from their cottages which is about an hour and a half from the airport.. since they are already at the cottages i'd have to get my sister to pick me up at the airport and drive us both there ... however things are still in the works so we will see.. i HAD planned to get a hotel room using my air miles (so free) near my sister the night i fly in, and they could just pick me up on the way and surprise there i would be haha. anyway it will all work out one way or the other.. we'll have 2 others joining us once in nova scotia on the day of the wineries tour (relatives) so will be fun for sure.
0 -
Goodness, that sounds complicated. I'm completely confused! Sounds like a lovely little break though. I would love to go on a wine tour, even though I barely drink now - but just tasting would be fine. I hope it all goes well, even if you have to spoil the surprise!1
-
lol thanks Vail - my cousin called me today and she will pick me up at the airport and take me to her cottage where HER sister and MY sister will be.... so yep will be a surprise for my sister after all..
of course the bigger surprise is letting her know i'm staying with her for 2 days after we get back from our trip to NS - not sure how thrilled she will be with THAT news!
Once i get there, the 4 of us are driving from their cottage in New Brunswick to Nova Scotia (another province) for the weekend for the winery tour.. it's about a 4 hr drive). We will drive back to the cottages sunday then i will go home with my sister to her place for 2 days then home lol. Even more confused now? hahahaha..
I rarely drink anymore either .... but i can do some tastings for sure especially since there will probably be munchies along with each one
0 -
Sounds like it will be fun and I’m sure your sister will love having you stay with her.
I do enjoy a glass or two of wine every once in awhile. I really like to try inventive cocktails at new restaurants, too. Just one and then I’m satisfied. I can’t imagine drinking enough to get drunk. I don’t think I’ve ever been that way though. I do like my gin and tonics occasionally. Lol.
The festival was fun today. It was beautiful weather but hot! Watching our granddaughter was fun yesterday and very tiring. Lol. If I had to keep up with her every day then I would definitely lose some weight.1 -
Yes, running after a toddler is such hard work! I'm hoping I'm still up for it when/if I have grandchildren! Although you have to be careful not to end up eating the food they don't eat, so as not to waste it. It's just amazing to think that all of us were like that once, running around all day, burning calories right, left and centre.
I think I've got it now, Snoozie, thank you for the explanation! I had got to grips with the different sisters on second reading, but was getting confused with the airport and the cottages and where your cousin and your sister live. A map would make it clearer, lol! It sounds lovely. Nice that you will all be doing the main journey together.0 -
Hello you two!
Been a bit MIA - had a rough couple of days physically - that thing that happens every so often where it feels like my whole body got hit by a mac truck.. i swear every joint even my toes and fingers hurt lol.. thankfully its about 95% better today so very thankful.. i did manage to get for a walk yesterday .. well more of a stroll but then i started back with the RC and ended up having to walk to another terminal for the shift .. and the escalators were down so i had to take the stairs LOLOL... so i'm pretty sure i got my 10,000 steps in even if it wasn't voluntarily HA
I'm still weighing myself every day but i seem to be staying the same now .. im wondering if my body has a new set point which is fine if it does .. i stay within 2 lbs so i'm not bothering to log it as im doing that more for just watching how the gut is doing.. i have an ultrasound on my spleen mid june and more bloodwork both for the hematologist and a follow up apt already set which i was quite surprised at how quick i got THAT one ha... otherwise all is good in my world
Suzy I think you have another 2 weeks or so before you leave? Vail - did you plant that chevril? haaha
I'm trying to waste less so yesterday i had a small veggie tray with broccoli baby carrots and cauli left.. and some cooked chicken and lettuce and cherry tomatos.. so i threw it all into a kind of salad together and added a bit of cucumber and red pepper i found in the crisper... the veg were still warm as i just steamed them a few minutes so after mixing it all up i added about 2 tsp of ranch dressing which i rarely use but thot it would go well with the veg and chicken .. so it was like a warm "garbage" salad lol and it was actually awesome! I/ pigged right out on it.. such a nice change to have my veggies that way.. we used to order a fav pasta dish at work called garbage pasta.. which basically was just pasta with eveyr vegetable known to man .. and it was delish. but i must say the bit of warm stuff in with the cold tomatos and rest of it was really really good! I actually wish i had more of it today to make it again hahah1 -
That actually sounds delish! I have a head of cauliflower in the fridge and think I’ll try buffalo cauliflower again. I wish hubby would eat it so that I wouldn’t have to make two things.
I’ve been busy this week and didn’t walk even once..no gym…nothing. I think I’m having a real problem making myself a priority. The year is almost half over and I feel like I’ve wasted every bit of it when it comes to improving my health. No one can change that but me though.
How’s the garden coming along? Will you have time to check on it while doing your volunteer work? You sound like you’re awfully busy, too. I’m glad you’re feeling better today but what’s up with the whole body pain? I don’t think I knew you had this randomly. That sounds pretty painful. I’m so impressed that you went for a walk while dealing with that.0
