Snoozie, I have a new appreciation for what you went through with your stomach issues. I’ve just had two days of this and I can not even imagine living with it for as long as you did.

I hope you're better soon, Suzy. How miserable! Even a mild case can take it out of you, whether it's food poisoning or bug. It does sound really bad, fingers crossed for you that it's just a short-term thing.

Thank you both. I’m much better today. I was able to eat normally but maybe not as much. Still having occasional pains but no biggie. Whew! Like I said, I have renewed empathy Snoozie. I may even try a hike tomorrow.

Wouldn’t it be great if I could stick to the smaller portion sizes? Lol.

Thank goodness, Suzy! You know I logged in to check this morning as I was thinking about you, thinking about how awful Snoozie's illness was and remembering a particularly bad bout of food poisoning I had years ago, and worrying that you were getting worse. So what a relief! Did you ever find out the cause? I hope you're better again tomorrow, and take it easy on your hike, if you go. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Thanks y’all! It was a good day! We hiked three miles into town, ate a sandwich and relaxed for an hour then hiked the three miles back. We then went for a swim and are relaxing in our chalet. We head home tomorrow.

(I think it was something I ate but not sure)

suzy im so glad you're recovered and wowsa on the hikes!! excellent im so glad you were able to enjoy the rest of your time there and that you are feeling so much better. I had food poisoning once years ago.. basically threw up for 24 hrs straight .. it was very violent but thankfully only lasted the 24 hrs (2 days) so hopefully if it was something you ate, its all gone now!

i logged a loss in the check in but it didnt show.. and i was wondering why.. i was running some reports and decided to update my profile settings and i discovered that i had never changed my "weight goal" to the actual final weight - i just put in the interim one but because of the stomach bug, i had reached that interim goal but it thought it was my final goal lol... so i guess it decided since i was already there no need to update it.. duh. so i updated it with my final goal weight lol... im only logging the weight to keep track and make sure im holding steady as it were... but never even thought that i had originally picked a weight to hit and never updated it lol

i bought a bicycle today. God help me lol. I'm not sure if i made a huge mistake or not as yet lol.. its still sitting in the back of my car until i can get a space in the bike storage area of my condo (otherwise i'll have to bring it up here each time)... i got it off facebook marketplace and i did my homework before hand.. i wanted an aluminum alloy bike as they are lighter than a steel frame... but unless you go very high end like competitive bikes.. they are super expensive. I did get it in the truck but the lady's husband helped me ... i THINK i can get it in and out myself so if i want to go to the lake front path i can just toss it in the car and take it there.. i have a few bike paths around me that i can access without having to go on the busy roads that surround me... but just taking it for a test drive a few blocks before i bought it was enough so i can feel it! Fortunately it has a wider seat than those skinny little ones you usually find..so hopefully my backside will appreciate that lol. Anyway i think my friends husband is gonna take a look at it and make sure its roadworthy as they had it stored in the garage.. but it appears in great shape as adversied and its a Mongoose which is supposed to be a very good brand based on my homework... but we'll see!! II'll keep you posted LOL

How fun!!! I’m so happy for you that you found a good deal and that you’re trying something new. I think I’m too much of a chicken to try biking. Lol.

So, does this mean that you’ve reached your goal weight and are on maintenance now?

We just got back home and I’ve unpacked and thrown some clothes in the wash. It’s still weird to be coming home to a different house. I wonder when that feeling will stop.

I may be too much of a chicken as well Suzy lol... but I want to at least try it.. we have so many bicycle paths around here and i need something besides pickleball.. especially cause my legs are still pretty weak and i am hoping my cardio will improve too... as long as i dont just coast ha.

No i havent reached goal - i just forgot i had set my "first" weight goal at a certain amount.. i do better in smaller increment goals rather than a big one personally... but i forgot i DID actually pass that one and never changed it to the next one lol ... so it assumed i was stopping there and didn't record anything.. i've updated it now

i bet its weird to be coming home to a different house!! i'm sure by next summer it will definitely be home again..

I made the mistake of deciding to get rid of all kinds of stuff... i have everything from old bottles of booze (and i mean old.. like probably 25 yrs?? i never drink hard liquor so those open bottles have been in the bar for who knows how long.. i have to open them all and pour them out then take the bottles to the recycling,.... all that kind of stuff and honestly.... i dont know where to start lol.. my place is literally a disaster right now.... im out of space to keep even the things i want to let alone perhaps fit a bicycle in here somewhere hahah. So i've given up for the moment lol.. there's always tomororw as Scarlett would say!

I get my garden tomorrow - there's an orientation at 1pm to explain the rain barrels and where everything is locked up onsite etc... im kind of excited even tho i still dont really have a clue what im doing ha.. i'll take a pic after i plant my stake sign so you can see it before the magic happens.. BAHAHAHAHAHA.. ya the magic..

PS - i've been trying on winter stuff as i put it away and starting a box for the goodwill donation... same with digging out the spring/summer stuff.. so the box is getting full.. but the last suitcase i opened contained all the bathing suits and wraps .. and i am SO not up to trying THOSE on tonite hahaha... i was thinking of you finding ones you didn't 'hate" Suzy -i'm just hoping one might actually fit now and i keep it just in case i ever need one.. altho at this point.. im not sure where lol

I'm so glad you're better, Suzy! I wonder if it was food poisoning. I have had food poisoning several times - I think I must be unlucky! It's one reason I'm a bit obsessive about food hygiene, but of course I've never had it from anything I've cooked myself. It's always been when eating out (which is why I think more likely on vacation) and I've always been able to have a good guess at what caused it. I'm quite cautious when eating out, and a couple of times I've had it when I should have known something wasn't right but ate it anyway. Always be careful with things which seem like they might have been kept at the wrong temperature! There have been a couple of occasions where I've stopped eating something which didn't feel right, and the person I was with carried on: they had food poisoning, and I just had very minor symptoms. And another occasion when I was eating something that I decided had been at the wrong temperature and told my boyfriend at the time not to eat it: I had food poisoning and he didn't. Almost every time I was fine in a couple of days, apart from one time when I was younger when I had a really bad bout.

Anyway, so glad you managed to get better and get a hike in before you had to go home!

Oh, very exciting about the bike purchase, Snoozie! I hope you enjoy it. My little bit of advice as a very occasional cyclist would be to start off with shorter rides until you kind of break yourself in, so to speak. Saddle soreness is definitely a thing, after a break. I bought a memory foam cover for my saddle (it's not a narrow one either) but that seemed to make things worse! Anyway, I looked into it, and it turns out extra padding is not the way to go. And it depends on your individual anatomy and what part of your undercarriage is getting sore. A lot of women's saddles have cutouts which look really uncomfortable but apparently are not. I've just stuck with my original saddle as it's only a cheap bike and I don't go far, but if I ever decide to do more cycling I'd look into that a bit more.

I've had my current bike for almost 20 years. My previous one was also a cheap one (actually a child's one because I'm a shortie) and it was so heavy. I really, really appreciate that my current one is a bit lighter, so I think it was a very good choice to go for a lighter aluminium one. It's not even just for moving it around, it makes things a lot easier on hills I think. I have been really tempted to buy an electric bike, but one of the things that bothers me is that they are so heavy.

Another thing that I've found really useful is having panniers for the bike. I just bought very cheap ones from Amazon, but they are fantastic. I think I like the fact that the weight is lower so it feels quite stable when you have stuff in them.

That's funny that you are getting rid of lots of stuff, Snoozie, because I am doing exactly the same. I have a lot of alcohol in the house, and I hardly drink these days! I have been bravely getting rid. I opened a 20 year old bottle of cava the other day, thought it wouldn't have kept well, but I had a taste and it was lovely - ended up using a bit in cooking, drinking small glass and pouring the rest down the sink! I've also been pouring away bottles of gin, liquers, etc. that have been opened for years, and recycling the bottles. It's a stage in my life that I'm not at any more, and like you, I need the space.

I'm also wondering if I dare get rid of some of my now slightly too big clothes, to encourage me to stay this weight or less!

Vail - i was holding onto stuff that is too big, especially :tops for that "just in case" too... but i'm so done with it now.. im not keeping anything that is too big or too small anymore! i'm actually getting more comfortable wearing clothes that actually FIT.. having been overweight most of my life i have always tended to wear "baggy" stuff anyway, but I'm realizing that no matter what my weight, clothes that FIT whatever my size just look better. And don't forget i am so not a clothes person at all.. so i won't be running out shopping but i did buy 2 pairs of pants that actually fit as well as a new top. It's still hard not to buy something that is a "little big" .. but i end up hitching my pants up all the time or plucking at things that shouldnt be plucked lol. So i say get rid of em .. if they don't fit well, send em off.. you WILL NOT need them again!!

Yes, you're right. Remember I mentioned that I bought a lovely pair of trousers that were too big and I was going to hold them up with a belt? Well those are going, in fact I think they've already gone. Most stuff is just going to charity shops or in the bin if well-worn, but I'm going to have a go at selling a couple of the better quality things online. I bought a couple of dresses for my son's wedding last year and missed the return window, so I will try to sell them as they haven't been worn. LOL at the clothes plucking at things! Yes, it's so nice to wear things that fit properly. I do wear baggy clothes, and that might be one of the reasons that nobody has yet noticed my weight loss!

Oh, my son and daughter-in-law's graduation from medical school was yesterday - they actually graduated two years ago and have been working all through the pandemic but have had to wait for the ceremony. I'll see if I can upload a picture and set it to disappear in a couple of weeks. I was wearing a dress I bought 20 years ago when I was slimmer. It was a little bit too big then, but still amazed that I could get back into it! Also shows how long I keep things, as it has been in my wardrobe all through my overweight years, ha ha!

there's no 'LOVE!!!" button for the photos Vail so i had to go with like!! but i love them!! Congrats to both of them on such a wonderful achievement!! I'm so glad they got the official ceremony altho it had to wait...

you look GREAT btw!! wowsa !!!! thanks so much for sharing those pics !

I’m so glad they finally got their graduation ceremony! It must have been nice to have a celebration after everything they’ve been through these last two years. You look like such a proud mom! And you look fantastic!! Thanks for sharing the photos. I still can’t upload a photo for some weird reason.

I got rid of so much stuff when we moved. I really haven’t missed any of it. I do need to go through my closet though. I now have a huge walk in closet so haven’t felt the need to get rid of clothes. I read somewhere that you should hang all your hangers backwards. If you wear something then replace it on a hanger the normal way. After a year, just get rid of anything still hanging on a backwards hanger. Something to think about.

Thank you both! Yes, I am so proud of both of them! It's funny, I almost tried to put my son off being a doctor when he first got the idea (although I did support him after telling him about the realities of it!), because it's so much hard work and stress, ridiculous hours and shifts, having to move round the country, no time for relationships, etc. And not even that well paid in the UK, not for the hours they do. But if he hadn't done it, he wouldn't have met his wife, and although it has been hard, they've gone through a lot of it together and actually have now got jobs in commuting distance of home so can still live together.

I like the idea about the hangers, Suzy. I need to find some sort of system, because I keep too much. It's interesting that you say you don't miss stuff you got rid of when you moved. I have been in this same house so long, but maybe I need to treat it as if I was moving house, maybe somewhere smaller, and think about what I really would have to take with me, and what has had its time. I did really like the material that dress is made is from, and haven't seen another one the same, so I kept it for when I lost the weight. Now I have lost the weight, but it has been twenty years that it has been taking up space in my house!

Talking of losing the weight, I have another long awaited mini victory. I'm actually at my previous goal weight (the one I never got to) which would have been a heatlhy BMI. Unfortunately, I have lost height! So I am still overweight, but I wouldn't have been if it was a few years ago, ha ha!

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the garden and with the bike, Snoozie!

Vail - huge kudos on your VICTORY !! (NOTICE i did not use the "mini" part!" So... you have reached a goal weight you have never accomplished before - that is SO not a mini anything! Huge congrats... I wish you hadn't negated the goal with having lost height tho.. it's an AMAZING accomplishment to have hit a brand new weight that was a goal of yours !!! So congratulations on a fabulous accomplishment!!

Suzy the hanger thing wouldnt work for me... i'd have to throw out my entire closet as i lived in the same pair of shorts and 2 t shirts for 2 years in lockdown here LOLOL.. SO technically i would have to throw out my entire wardrobe!! Altho that said.. I pretty much have done that now.. I was brutal and am still in the process... right down to underwear that is too big now!! Like Vail i hang onto stuff WAY to long.. i have a few dresses with the price tags still on them in a garment bag! If we had a consignment shop here i would def do that.. but I won't get rid of them yet cause they cost a pretty penny and have never been worn! of course its ridiculous to keep them in the closet .. maybe i keep hoping i'll get an invite somewhere to a fancy dinner or party ??

But with the weight loss from the gut thing, almost everything i own is at least 2 sizes too big now.. some much more as i always wore baggy anyway. And it's ALL going... i am trying on everything and if it doesnt fit perfectly.. its gone... i am so done with keeping stuff that doesnt fit or i know i will never wear!! i can slowly replace stuff here and there, but so far i have 2 huge bags and still have the spring/summer stuff to go.. i may even use an old suitcase to put it all in and get rid of it too!! hahaha this is a first for me as I do tend to keep stuff way too long... hmmm i just remembered too i have a bunch of jackets i never wear either .... that will be tomorows project!

I have a healthy new respect for all farmers and gardeners now... i went over today and had to lug a 25 litre bag of triple mix in my old grocery buggy a few blocks.. even in the buggy it weighed a lot lol... there's nowhere to park near the gardens which will be fine normally but not with the soil. Anyway i hoed up the whole garden 8 feet x 4 feet deep to get at all the fresh dirt .. dumped in 1/2 the triple mix and hoed again... then started to form a few rows for my early planting once the water gets turned on.. hopefuly in the next day or 2. then i dumped the rest of the triple over it all and smooshed it in with my hands.. took me almost 2 hours and i was bent over a lot so i'm feeling it in my arms for sure.. and my back and legs lol.. but that's the hardest part done at least... now just the planting and hoping! ha

Thanks for the tip on the panniers.. i may graduate to them eventually lol... but I have to get out and do some practice locally on it for a while first .. i'm actually hoping i can use it to visit my garden.. its probably only a kilometer away .. maybe 1.5 andi can easily walk it... but it would be nice if i could bike over sometimes too... right now there is a ton of construction going on near me and its a terribly busy traffic area as well.. but i have an alternate route i can take once i get comfy enuf .. ok i am gonna get up before i can't move lol...

There is nothing mini about your victory, Vail! Congratulations! That is awesome news! We are NOT shrinking yet, surely you just measured your height wrong this time. Lol.

I had a bicycle with panniers when I lived in Amsterdam and loved it! I went grocery shopping pretty much every day (that’s what they do there because the refrigerators are tiny) and the panniers came in handy. I can just see you cycling home with all your freshly harvested veggies!

You are both doing so well with your weight loss. You’re inspiring me to try harder. I need to up my game. I’ve just been coasting for so long. I don’t know why I can’t seem to stick to it. Any little thing just derails me and it takes me forever to get back on track. We’re going on a trip to Texas (Dallas then San Antonio) then over to the beach at Perdido Key in four weeks. We’ll be gone two weeks. I want to use these four weeks to really stick to lower calories and more exercise. Surely I can manage four weeks!!! I need to get back to my HIIT class and walking.

I agree with you Suz that vail is doing fab with her weight loss!! Remember in my case, a lot of it was due to the gut bug, not through my own efforts!

your trip sounds lovely!! At least right now the weather is getting better and theres lots more fresh veg avail - altho i know with hubby that's a bit of a challenge for you cooking wise lol.. And actually having a set time to focus on you is a good thing from what i remember of the different tips we've shared, and perhaps just focusing on the 2 plans of lower cals and more exercise for those 4 weeks will have the side benefit of some weight loss.. right now that's what i'm doing just focusing more on what i'm eating and not about the loss itself... ih have lost a littel bit but i think its because i'm not really thinking about THAT part, only about eating better and moving more.. and the weight loss is kind of a side benefit.. if that makes sense lol

i swear last night every part of my body hurt... there may have been one square inch somehwere that didnt but eveyrthing from my hands to my toes hurt LOL.. its just using all the muscles i havent been i know.. but having lifted the bike now half a dozen times in and out of my car and all the hoe ing at the garden even my hands hurt! I am enjoying it all tho even with my whining lol.

today i am meeting my pickleball partner at my garden.. she is gonna be my garden buddy as i'll be away for a week in June.. plus she grew up on a farm so i'm not above plucking that resource for help haha. Her husband tuned up my new bicycle for me so we're going to her place after to take mine for its inaugural spin around the neighbourhood then a little bbq for lunch... we are having a whole week of gorgeous weather and as Im off still for another week til I return to my RC duties, I'm enjoying every minute... it's amazing how some sunshine can lift everyone's spirits - until we start complaining about the heat of course!! hahaha

Sounds like a wonderful plan for the day! Enjoy! I’ll be cleaning all the pollen off our screened porch and pulling some weeds. I think you’ll be having so much more fun than me. Lol. I can’t wait to hear how the garden progresses.

Our little town has a farmer’s market every Saturday that has just started back up. I can’t wait to go this weekend. Hubby has been more open to trying new veg so maybe we’ll find something he likes.

What a great pic, Snoozie - you really look like a cyclist! Would not guess you were just getting back into it! No wonder you are sore with all you have been doing. It might be a break from your work, but certainly not a break activity wise! You also look so slim - I hesitated about whether to say it as you had such an awful experience losing some of the weight, but you do look fantastic!

You're inspiring me to get out on my bike again! I hate going on the roads, but I can do quite a lot on cycle paths here, and when I get out some of it is actually fun. I do have a problem with my hands when cycling - carpal tunnel syndrome? Which is really annoying. But seeing the picture of you just reminded me of the feeling of being on a bike, and feeling taller and faster than normal! Wheeee!

Definitely think about the panniers. You'd need a back rack to put them on, but the reason I rave about them is I'm a nervous cyclist and I feel much more balanced with panniers than with anything else (baskets, backpacks, etc.). I also tend to leave a spare inner tube, bike pump, etc. in them, although you can get bike pumps which attach to the frame which is probably better. I found I could get quite a lot of weight in the panniers and still feel stable. Oddly even if all the weight is on one side, you seem to naturally adjust. Anyway, I thought it might be really handy for carrying things back and forth to the allotment.

The farmers market sounds fun, Suzy, and great that hubby is feeling a bit more adventurous veg-wise! Maybe when he sees the local veg on display it will inspire him. I hope you have a lovely break - I always think it's harder to stay on track when you're away, but maybe not actually, if you get into a different routine of eating while you're there.

Thank you both for your congratulations on my mini-goal! (Or what used to be my major goal, ha ha!). Unfortunately I really have lost height - I have a bit of kyphosis at my neck, like an old lady. But having said that you do have a point, as it's a bone problem, and doesn't relate to visceral fat - the BMI is just a number really. I'd still like to be officially in the healthy range, so carrying on for now, or trying to. I really have got in the habit of eating less now, and trying to keep it like that. So much of this is about habits, isn't it?

    morning!

Vail i have no prob referencing the gut bug loss lol. and ty on the slim comment; I may not have put in the work to lose the pounds but i figure i might as well take advantage of it and keep it gone! I am actually at the lowest weight i've been since joining MFP... and like you i have gotten used to eating less and actually being occasionally hungry .. i do find myself slipping back into some bad habits tho.. i think perhaps because i CAN eat more, i'm reaching for a bit of junk.. nowhere near what i used to.. but i am noticing a bit here and there sneaking in. I took a bit of a break from the broccoli and cauli before i got sick of it, but then i realized i wasn't eating as much veg.. so that's my goal today to do some groceries and get more veg and actually COOK it.. that's my biggest prob i get stuff then it sits in the fridge cause im too lazy to cook it.. LOL. I'm actually sitting here with my coffee trying to do up a shopping list... and everything i think of requires too much work lol.. how pathetic am i ???

It's funny.. when i ended up with the 2 weeks off from RC i first thot.. i'll email them and say i do have more availability.. then i thought.. no.. you are back for the whole month of June.. so maybe.. just leave it be.. and right now i'm actually really grateful.. i got my garden done and a bunch of stuff taken to goodwill.. i still have a load of stuff to do around here but i think i'm going to treat myself to a pedicure in the next couple of days.. it's been at least 2 years since i had one.. I prefer doing my own manicures but i do love a pedi.. so that will be on my "to do" list before i return to RC on May 23rd..

I'm still waiting on getting a parking spot in the bike room at my condo so my poor bike is still in the back of my car lol.. its a pain getting it out and putting it back in there - but i truly have no room to put it in the apartment so im hoping to hear today.. but i walked to the garden yesterday and it was 25 min.. today i am going to bike over there and see how long it takes.. i'll be taking a longer route as the construction on the main roads around me is horrific right now.. they are digging up miles of road for an LRT system so by detouring on the back small roads i can avoid it all.. fingers crossed!

good morning! well the bike ride to the garden yesterday was fab.. only had to cross the nightmare road once by my place and i walked my bike across so i could stare directly into the eyes of the drivers coming both ways for turns lol.. i find if i'm walking or biking and there are cars waiting to turn til im thru the crosswalk, if i stare directly at the driver to make sure they see me its a lot safer!

anyway ride there was great.. then i realized its all UPHILL coming home hahaha. but i did find a bike path right across from my garden that comes out near the side road i take, so bonus there. But i will admit it was a difficult ride home - wasnt sure i was going to make it lol.. thank god my friend had taught me how to change gears on our trial run or i would not have made it hahaha. and thank god there was a red light at the main road so i could rest and just pretend i was waiting to cross ha!!

I AM feeling it in my parts today - my hands too Vail .. and neck.. but mostly i realize how weak my legs are so defnitely will have to get back into serious walking again too to.. so this afternoon i'll do a long walk in the woods trails as its gonna be hot hot hot today.

I finally did a decent shop yesterday and got lots of veg.. i'm planning on making a shepherds pie for dinner but using sweet potatos for the topping instead of white and i can cram a bunch of veggies in there lol.. bonus.. lots of leftovers and it freezes well!)

hope both of you are well and suzy you must be looking forward to your trip!!!! Vail i see you posted another loss... awesome !!

I weigh every day, so I do get lots of losses on the dashboard. It's often up again the next day! I still have a very slow downward trend though. I'm in a new 10 lb weight category which always feels good. I know I keep posting loads of these little achievements, but it's partly because my weight loss is so slow I have to look around to find something so pick out lots of different mini milestones (new pound category, new stone category, new kg category, etc. etc.).

I'm loving the bike and allotment updates! Yes, uphill is such a different story, but to be honest if you can cycle uphill at all without building up to it, that's fantastic! I have struggled with it, even when cycling regularly. It's so relentless.

I did a little cycle training course before getting back into it a few years ago, just a couple of hours, and one of the things the intstructor emphasised was making eye contact with drivers. And generally making sure you are seen - you want to know that the driver has registered your existence. So exactly what you are doing.

It's a gorgeous day here today and I'm off to meet a friend for a walk. I have not been walking enough, or social enough recently so it will do me good!
