My BIL announced his engagement. A woman he met on eHarmony in May. He'll be her third husband. In a weird coincidence she's the woman who was hired by the previous owner of their Sedona house to redecorate (in other words she already knew there was money there; am I a little cynical or what?)0
-
Cynical, or realist. You pick, lol!0

I can see why your at a loss for words to congratulate them. Does it seem a little weird that she matched without someone whose house she’d been to. Don’t suppose he’s doing a prenup. That fact he’s husband number 3 should be a red flag. Widowed or divorced?

The second husband died of a sudden aneurysm a month after the wedding which is one thing that drew him to her. She gets the grief of suddenly losing a spouse. I don't know about first husband. One would guess divorce since it wasn't mentioned. He's not responding to emails any more so I should just say congrats and be done with it.0 -

I’ve gotten pretty good at doing the daily Wordle puzzle and tonight a friend introduced me to Quordle. It’s similar, but much harder. You have to solve 4 words simultaneously, using the same letters. Instead of 6 tries as in Wordle, you get 9 in Quordle to solve all 4 words. I enjoy word puzzles like Scrabble and Wordle, but I’m not sure I have time to get into all of the variations. There’s even a version of Wordle using all dirty or curse words. I know I won’t be doing that one.
Today I had my 6 month checkup with my doctor who monitors my BP and general health. It went well, except for the blood draw. The tech got 1 tube, but couldn’t get the second one. She tried sticking the other arm and couldn’t get any blood, so tomorrow I’ll have to go to a lab for them to do it. A nuisance but I’d rather do that than let her turn me into a pincushion. The lab always seems to get my blood pretty easily. My doctor asked me if I was up to date on my colonoscopy and I told him I was not, but that I was unwilling to do another one. I told him I would be willing to do Cologuard and if it showed anything suspicious I would follow up at that point with a colonoscopy. I explained that I’ve had several colonoscopies in the past and never had even a single polyp, and that I have extreme difficulty with the prep for it. He agreed that my plan was reasonable and ordered the Cologuard kit for me. I was relieved that he agreed with my plan. He also ordered my mammogram which I scheduled for next week.
It’s getting hard to keep track of all of my appointments, as well as MIL’s appointments. I’m not used to having so much on my calendar. Next week I also have my follow-up appointment with my hand surgeon, and a birthday dinner for a friend, and an appointment with a retina specialist for MIL. I have to be aware of her appointments, whether I’m going with her or not, because DH will need my vehicle for her appointments. She isn’t able to get in and out of either of his cars and since they are manual shift, I’m not able to drive them. I know how to drive a manual, though I’m not very smooth at it due to lack of practice, but my arm and hand are so weak from the accident, that I don’t believe I could safely shift gears. I sometimes struggle even with an automatic and need to use both hands to shift, but it’s manageable.0 -
Today I fed, picked up my tire from Mr. Tire (the clerk had one arm in a sling and still managed to put the tire in my van), and went to the grocery store. Now I take a quick shower and get Jack to the vet.
I'll probably bring Simon home today.
Tomorrow I pick the next newsletter up at the printer and then pick up either one or two cats at the vet (depending on whether they think Lola's ready to come home).
Work? What's work?0 -
Pam - wow, that's a lot!
My current van is my first vehicle without a stick shift but I've had it for 15 years so it's been awhile. It was an adjustment but if I had to climb in a stick now I'd probably be rusty.
DH is doing wordle and seems to enjoy it! I doubt he'd be interested in a harder version.
For decades I've kept a monthly planner (8 1/2 x 11) open on my desk in which I track work, personal and CROM obligations. Couldn't live without it. I have a small pocket calendar I keep updated, and synced with the planner, that I carry in my purse. I periodically review them to keep them in sync.

at-a-glance also makes refills0 -
For now, I’m keeping track of the appointments using the calendar in my phone, which syncs with my iPad. As long as DH doesn’t make any appointments for her without notifying me, I think it will be manageable. God help me if I lose my phone or iPad, though!0

You're much more technologically advanced than I am!
I have a friend that has her phone alarm for certain things but that doesn't really help her plan.0 -
I never learned to drive a stick. I’d be in trouble if I had to drive anything but an automatic transmission. Today was a PT day. My leg is doing great but my lower back was pretty achy today. My problem stems from an auto accident 18 years ago. I’d get chiropractic adjustments but never looked into treatment until now. I’m hoping to master exercises that reduce or eliminate the back pain.0

Big fan of p/t here so I really hope it will help you! DH went for his back but didn't take it seriously so of course it didn't help.0 -
I’m not that tech savvy so I don’t use an online calendar. If I have something important to remember, I send myself an email reminder. I check my email multiple times a day so that reminder works for me.0

I had my follow up with the hand surgeon today. He outlined 3 choices: 1) do nothing and my hand will never be much better than it is today, 2) surgery to remove the plate that goes across the elbow, then reroute the ulnar nerve to the inside of my elbow instead of where it now lies across the back of it, thus likely improving sensory input for my fingers but not strength, and 3) option #2 plus a third procedure that takes a nerve located just below my wrist and moving it over and grafting it onto the ulnar nerve, which would potentially help to improve the functionality of the 2 fingers that are now seriously impaired. Option 3 is much more involved and he said he’s had both successes and failures with it. There is a possibility if I do it of no improvement, but probably no worse off than I am now. Apparently it’s a very lengthy surgery as he said if I choose to do it it would be the only surgery he would schedule for that day, and that means it will take longer to find a day that he can devote to a single surgery. Currently the 2 dates he might have available are October 19th or November 12th. I’d like to do it ASAP so I’m hoping the October date works. DH is leaving the decision to me, saying he supports me either way. SIL surprised me by saying I should go for it. She’s usually very conservative about surgery unless absolutely necessary, so I didn’t expect her to be in favor of it.
I decided to take a break from OT for awhile. I’m only going once a week at this point, and I really feel that any progress I’m making now is minimal and likely the result of my day to day activities more than the 1 hour per week of therapy. I’m sure I’ll be back after the surgery, so a break will be nice for now.
Tomorrow I’m having linner with my friends from grad school to celebrate a birthday. We aren’t getting together until 4 PM, so it’s too late for lunch and a little early for dinner, thus “linner”. I’ll discuss the surgery options with them and get their input, but at this point I’m pretty sure I’m going to do it. Thursday I get my boobs squeezed, then I’m done with medical appointments for a few days. It seems like that’s all I do these days.0 -
Pam - it sounds like you've got a very proactive surgeon there and it sounds like, if you decide to go for it, you won't have to wait forever (interesting how my concept of waiting forever for a doctor appointment has changed). Here's hoping that if you go for it you get great results!0
-
All things considered, an October date doesn’t sound like that bad a weight. I have a colonoscopy and bone scan scheduled and both are in October. I need to call and schedule my mammogram too. I usually do that in late October as well. You’re certainly looking at options 2 and 3 carefully. Option one is very easy to reject. Option 3 makes sense since you probably won’t end up worse and you may regain more functionality.0

Has anybody looked into how mammogram and COVID boosters interrelated (or shouldn't as the case may be). I know I've seen something but haven't gone back to it. I know my mammogram is already on my calendar. My 4th COVID shot was the end of April.0

Today in history
Associated Press
In 1969, in what some regard as the birth of the internet, two connected computers at the University of California, Los Angeles, passed test data through a 15-foot cable.
This is SO cool! I'm thrilled that I was around for the birth of personal computing and the internet. I was a very early adopter, before DH had any interest. I don't think younger generations have any appreciation for how earth shattering that was.0 -
Maryanne, I hadn’t heard anything about a link between mammograms and Covid boosters, but they did ask me when I checked in if I had had Covid or any symptoms, or a pending test within the past 2 weeks. It must have been a slow day at the radiology clinic because I had my results (all good) within 2 hours.
This morning I had a conversation with my hand surgeon. He wanted to advise me that there is a possibility of having to graft some cadaver nerve tissue if mine is too damaged and he wanted to make sure I was ok with it. I have no objection, so we are going forward with the surgery on October 19th. I’ll have an overnight stay afterward then back home. My arm will be in a splint for a week, then probably just a wrist brace for an indefinite period of time. The surgery itself will take 4-5 hours, if all goes well. I probably won’t be able to drive for at least 3 weeks. At least this time I’ll have time to prepare for being unable to do certain things. I jokingly told my friends that instead of bringing us meals, I’d rather have help with my hair and grooming. I’m not sure how that would work, but I already know that DH is useless with my hair.0 -
I haven’t seen anything connection Covid to mammograms. And I read a lot of news stories so it seems like I would have read about something like that. Pam, I had cadaver bone tissue when I had my first tooth implant because the dentist didn’t think My jaw was strong enough without it. No bad effects from getting that. Having that option is probably a plus in case your own nerve is too damaged. I wonder if any of your friends will take you up on the hair request.0
-
It looks like the recommended interval is 4 weeks. It's not that the vaccine causes cancer. Apparently the COVID shots can cause swollen lymph nodes which can complicate reading the mammogram. My mammogram is scheduled for 11/9 and I just made a combined vaccination booster/flu shot appointment for September 14. I have barely ever had a side effect from either and I'm pretty open that week so hopefully I'll be fine.0

I did have a friend cut my fingernails when they started bothering me. DH washed my hair a couple times until I started doing it one handed.
Here's hoping the surgery is a massive success!!!!0 -
Got our flu shots at Walgreens today. I asked about when they’d have the omicron vaccine and was told it’s expected next week. They have to develop protocols so the shots will be ready for distraction in about 2 weeks. It has to be more than 2 months since your last booster. Ours were in April so we’ll be all set to get our’s.0
-
I’ll wait until early October to get my flu shot and next Covid booster. Since the flu shots protect you for about 6 months, I always prefer to get mine a little later so that I’m protected through most of the flu season. I do want to get them before my surgery, for sure. DH won’t be able to get his Covid booster until late October, since he had Covid in late July.0

I was at PT today. We’re mostly working on my lower back since my knee is doing really well. I was telling my therapist that I went to the movies in July and I could barely walk up the aisle when the movie ended.I hobbled my way towards the exit, holding on to chair backs. By the time I got to the exit, I could walk normally. We went to the movies Saturday. When I stood up, I expected my knee to be stiff and hard to walk. Surprisingly, I walked normally with out pain. I got a high five from the therapist for that news. We’ve only been working on my back for three weeks but I’m sleeping better with less pain. yahoo!0

DH was busily filling out his Walgreen's forms today and then realized he didn't have the most current version and had to start over. He's determined not to be rushed to fill out a form when he gets there. I keep telling him this isn't going to be like the early days when appointments were golden and there were millions of people trying to get appointments at the same time.0 -
We had no problem getting flu shot appointments. I started to make an appointment for the new Covid booster but I needed to have my vaccination record in hand and I too lazy to get up and get. I’ll get to it this weekend.0

I just finished the newest J.D. Robb book and it was excellent. That’s one of the few books I will pay full price for. I’ve loved that series since I read the first one. Estelle Ryan is another author I pay full price for, but she isn’t as prolific, unfortunately.
Next Sunday is when DH, his sister, niece and great niece will be driving from here to Evergreen, CO. I offered to make them a picnic lunch so they wouldn’t have to stop for fast food and hassle with parking the big moving truck, etc. I had planned to make a chicken pasta salad, and probably a broccoli slaw or fruit salad to go with it. Initially, SIL said she would appreciate the lunch, then she started asking what I planned to make for them. When I described my plan, she started questioning the ingredients, what type of dressing, etc. Finally, last night she said they’d decided they’d rather have sandwiches and chips instead of “fancy salads”. The main reason I was planning to make salads is because she has told me frequently that she hates sandwiches. Am I being overly sensitive here, or is she an ungrateful and ungracious witch with a “B”?0
