How many π°π°π°π°π° did I eat?π

Ha, scouting mom! you may want to read back to discover many bunnies that are far from salads! Most of my bunnies tend to be previously frozen in actual fact!1

You misunderstand PAV. I donβt like hardly any vegetables that arenβt of the starch variety. Corn, green beans and peas are about it. I keep hoping that my taste buds will change but alas still opposed to anything remotely healthy. There is a definite reason in where I am!2

So British guidelines exclude potatoes and "vegetables used as starches" from consideration as vegetables. Given that we are on a calorie counting site, however, one questions if this is a legit move.
The humble potato (a vegetable known to test in multiple experiments as highly satiating for the calories) has no real reason to be excluded -- depending on what else has been added to it while it was cooking. Even when compared to a sweet potato or a yam that has a "better reputation"... well, looking at nutritional values per 100g one has to wonder WHY. Because I don't see it.
But lets set aside for a minute healthy and unhealthy reputations.
The discussion here is not the micronutrients that are in vegetables (and of course micronutrients DO exist in vegetables, they are good to have and if you're finding yourself eating 5 to 10 portions of vegetables and fruits a day you're more likely than not to have better health outcomes... when looking at things from a population as opposed to an individual's perspective). So yeah... 5 to 10 x 85g portions of vegetables a day are wonderful for that. BUT, more importantly for us, veggies are a nice way to add bulk with good value for the calories we're spending on them!
Bulk and satiation! As cheap (in calories) as we can get it for! Woohoo!
Now you mentions corn and peas. And starchy vegetables which I will assume are potatoes. Unless you mean cassava or plantain--something that would surprise me but hey, why not if that's how you roll!
The only reason I avoid eating as much corn, and choose GREEN BEANS more often... is because corn is higher in calories. But, peas actually, are pretty good when it comes to protein (for vegetables). Albeit still slightly high in calories for me given that I pop open 500g bags for the day.
But YOU have a SECRET WEAPON! Them lowly green beans that are still on your approved list.
These beauties rank straight down in the bottom of the list for calories... so you can mix them in with any of the above higher cal corns and peas and potatoes to increase total quantity without going through the roof in calories!
And boy oh boy is mashed potato with corn and peas (and green beans for calories) and a bit of gravy sort of yummy... and can create a nice lump in my tummy.... without going overboard in terms of calories if I don't lay in the cream and butter. (greek yogurt? laughing cow jalapeno? nothing other than strategic amounts? garlic powder or sriracha?)
So instead of looking at it along the lines of "I don't like salads or I don't like veggies"... what exactly is wrong with ADDING a nice side dish with potatoes and peas and even corn or green beans covered in some pasta sauce and with some sharp (so you can use less of it) cheese to whatever else you were going to eat? Warmed up and ready to go? Or some other weird combination
I am not saying give up something.... just ADD some of the veggies YOU ALREADY LIKE
Many of the ladies here (and especially Connie who doesn't even let her veggies touch each other ) may have more "normal" ideas of what you do with veggies. My cooking ideas have been, err, known to be frowned upon by some!
But your list of veggies is not nearly zero!
True... if you deep fry your potatoes... well, yeah. There might be issues with the total calories.
But we do have some quite interesting potato salad recipes floating around using greek yogurt and yellow mustard... just saying.
And you didn't say anything about fruit... have you had an ambrosia apple lately?
That said... no obligation!3 -
Bunnies: About 1/3 of long ago logged 1.3kg of then recently expired bagged tri color coleslaw dumped into a pot with about 200g red onions, a 200g apple, 450g of baby potatoes and 300g of spicy sicilian sausages plus various spices and seasonings... I am going from memory here so I could be out in terms of exact numbers. All in through started with over 2.1kg of fruits and veggies, so consuming 1/3 clearly exceeds EIGHT BUNNIES for the day--and I am claiming them!

Not sure the number of bunnies, but I did pretty good yesterday! Well, compared to a week ago at least haha.
Breakfast: Had a banana on top of my cereal π°
Lunch: Ordered in a burrito bowl that included romaine, extra fajita veggies, and pickled veggies. Plus beans! π°π°π°π°
Dinner: Cabbage and turkey smoked sausage. A lot of cabbage. I love cabbage. π°π°3 -
Good bunny boosting post, PAV! Green Beans...I ran out of my French cut green beans and just had a friend pick me up some from the fancy store Pasta sauce, veggie meatballs and some parmigiana Reggiano on those babies....mmmmm....soon. French cut green beans as pasta - still one of my favourite meals.
I love cabbage too, Athijade. Found a head of "flat" cabbage (I know there are other names - but that is the only one I remember because it looks flattened) last week - it is waiting for me in the fridge. Perhaps that should become dinner tonight and tomorrow!2 -
I am lucky that I like almost all fruits and vegetables but unless I am dieting, I usually skip them!β¦I either do it all or nothing!β¦( crazy, huh? )
Scoutmom, I love peas and corn and green beansβ¦.I do like my mashed potatoes with green peasβ¦.I love beans, tooβ¦.I put diced onions in my tuna salad and in my side veggies like green beansβ¦.sweet potatoes are a great sideβ¦.1 -
I forgot how much I actually enjoy raw veggies dipped in some sort of dip. Crunchy, refreshing, filling... just works out so well.
Been spending a bit more money to buy pre prepped veggies and fruits because I am so much more likely to eat them that way. Luckily my food budget can easily absorb the cost and I figure that spending more and eating it is better then spending less and letting it go to waste.2 -

My favorite way to make cabbage is roasted with a bit of oil, salt, pepper, and a little garlic powder. Roast it until just soft and charred. Sometimes I will make a batch ahead of time to eat with eggs and potatoes. Soooooooo good.
I wonder how that would work in a breakfast burrito...2 -
I enjoy roasted cabbage too - and find I can get away with salt, pepper, finely chopped garlic and no oil - it is delicious!4

Mine got snausages!0

Mine too - but they get panfried1

So 703g of "asian vegetable mix". Not sure if this mix will make the A team for me. Reduced a bit too much for my liking during heating. 81g white onion. 23g pickled jalapeno, 304g tomatoes, 53g olives (they're a fruit... right?!?!?
Anyway you look at it... more than a baker's dozen of bunnies... and no baked goods! (ok: not MANY baked goods )2 -
I'm uncertain of the asian mix myself....wondering if it would do better stir-fried (or maybe in the air fryer )? It always seems very watery. But okay in a pinch with those yam noodles/rice.1
-
will check on that as an option. i was just using it regularly. I was actually surprised to find it in the freezer as I don't think I was planning on buying that... must have picked it up by mistake thinking I was getting green beans with carrots mix.
Picked up some "fine green beans" as a "splurge". Was having second thoughts given how much more expensive they are than the regular cut beans... but I think they have a higher likelihood to pair nicely with pasta sauce. And given that my items were just 15% of the total grocery order--the rest belonging to the dog--yet I was the one doing the fetching... I decided to splurge!2 -
Sorry: "regularly" above should have been "as usual"
Reporting great improvement on the "arctic garden asian mix". Nuked 460g uncovered instead of covered which is my usual MO. Much less volume reduction and water generation and huge improvement on mushiness. Actually were good veggies paired nicely with instant mash (augmented by spices and a some Greek yogurt) for a very filling lunch.1 -

Those sorts of things are great stir fried. Had a similar mix (store brand) and make some teriyaki veggies with it. High heat and let them get a little brown on the edges. Yum!3 -
Well... I'm already above 13.5... 14, if I round up!

615g apples
403g sweet potatoes frozen
160g tomatoes
= 1178g of 13.86 bunnies so far!2 -
Yooly... can you just see yourself engaged in such a bunnageddon?

For today we introduce.... 396g of spiralized beetroots and 503g of fine green beans... which brings the bunnies to 10.5 to start!

Where da fiber? Got no fiber? checking checking... OH! I did gots me fiber!
220% yesterday and 162% so far today... pffffft... .that's only 43g so far today! BELOW AVERAGE!
HA! So that's interesting and boy can we play with correlation!
MFP Y1 AVG-CAL IN 2560 OUT 3255 FIBER 35g
MFP Y2 AVG-CAL IN 2913 OUT 3019 FIBER 46g
MFP Y3 AVG-CAL IN 2911 OUT 2937 FIBER 53g
MFP Y4 (5 months only) AVG-CAL IN 2920 OUT 2931 FIBER 62g
*I haven't kept as detailed of a record past that*
So the older you get the move fiber you eat and the less energy you spend, right? Maybe too much time in the bathroom!!!!!!1 -
Actually the older you get, you tend to need more protein. This according to the Gastroentrology guy who told me to cut back on my fiber overload diet. I was getting a lot of gut pain which resolved itself by doing somewhat less fiber.
Ah the joys of geezerhood!1 -
So, here is an interesting question: do canned tomatoes count as bunnies? If they don't.. why not? How about sriracha (made mostly if not wholly of chilli peppers, right?)
As I was drinking my first cup of coffee and contemplating which bag of bunnies to nuke, I decided to go all out and use the stove and a pot!
So I currently have simmering (based on what was in the house ya know):
98g of onion chopped
496g of green beans
753g of beautiful baby peas
1608g of canned diced tomatoes (hence the question)
8g of oil (2.5 of canola for the pot, and 5.5g of olive for some taste and balance--should be more but I am leaving the option to add some meat --probably sausages or some of the ground in the freezer--or some of the soy based vegetarian meat substitute I bought from amazon last night depending on when it arrives!)
64g of sriracha
and some powdered onion, powdered and roasted garlic, and knorr veggie powder
Which should be bunnies for at LEAST a couple of days if not more!!!!
Will scurry out the back door to check how many calories for the pot! It's a good sized pot!1 -
Chortle chortle.... waiting for the evil pot to cool down a bit so it can be transferred into glass-lock containers if I find lids!!!
I ended up adding a can of tomato paste (169g), and because of that a few drops of sucralose.
So I have now wrought pure evil: Salty, hot and spicy, AND with a good amount of sweetness.... am I leaving many light bulbs unlit?!?!?! especially if I add some umami from the mail-order veg based "hamburger" or some actual snausages.
under 1500 Cal for OVER 3kg of COOKED BUNNIES IN A POT!
Make that HOT bunnies in a pot Final weight is 2755g and Cals 1400

Donβt know what kind of concoction you created there PAV but as long as it makes you happy - and doesnβt kill you- itβs all good!1
-
Pft... it's green and red and spicy! And I added a pouch of brown rice with quinoa and lentils and it became AWESOME! I'll discuss with you tomorrow whether it has committed PAVicide!1
-
No PAVs were slain. Yesterday I also had a 750g pouch of peas and carrots AND 400g sweet potatoes too! Added butter this time (10g) and a goodly amount of illegal salt plus a lot of pepper!
Had it all ready before heading out. And warmed it up to be out of the nuker so as to figure out what else to make to have with my ready to eat side..... which I kept eating while trying to decide.... eating till I was full, at which point I decided that nothing was the plan! π€·ββοΈ
Then had the last 33% with my free big mac for late dinner (December gift card purchase = free big mac coupon good till February)0 -
Got to work those coupons and gift cards! Lately hubby and son have been getting $4 online coupons from the CVS pharmacy. The challenge is to get exactly $4 worth of merchandise = free.
So far only bunnies today were in a salad. Iβll get a couple more when we go out to dinner with friends tonight. Good work on your bunny meal PAV π1
