First day back to school. The kids were great. Pulled together some learning center based on winter/snowmen. Packed my lunch last night so it was a good one. Logged all my food and have done well with water. I came home and told myself I am a person who takes care of my health. So I read through a 4 stone meditation and got on my mat and did Pilates. I actually feel so much better after being on my feet all day. My steps are already over 8,000 and I haven’t figures out dinner yet.
Glad you are feeling better @jugar. Neat trick with the tracker.
Happy house hunting @wishfuljune. We are going to need to do that this year.
Ashley and Brad glad you countered the hangover with a nice walk.
Talk to you in a bit.8 -
@wishfuljune The pre-tracking or pre-logging thing is not something I can do all the time, but it works well for getting back on after a period of too much positive thinking. You know - this is only one little bit, tomorrow I'll get back on track, I need to make cookies since I was SO great lately...
So instead of just logging breakfast and then kind of letting the rest of the day roll on any way it wants to, I log the whole day while I eat breakfast. Breakfast is never a problem - I have basically the same thing every day. So it is a good time to pre-log the other food for the day and then it is already recorded.
So I have to do it. Right? Often it works really well!7 -
Here's @ashleycarole86 after her leg day!
It is always amazing how rubbery legs can get, eh? Happy recovery!
Still missing some weigh-ins - let's catch up!

Hi Everyone,
This is Jim from southern Utah here in the US (new username: jimprogress). I'm a 48 year old dad of four and teach at a university.
I'm excited to be a part of this group. I only have roughly 20 lbs to lose, but it's the same weight I've been wanting to lose since I became an adult. Except for a short stint where I gained extra with medication (and then lost it once I stopped), my weight hasn't fluctuated too much.
I've tried several diets over the years, but then quickly tire of them or get discouraged when my weight doesn't change right away. Complicating this is my hypoglycemia - which means I have to eat every few hours or I get a headache, irritable and/or faint.
At this point, I know a few things about myself when it comes to losing weight:
1. Most like I will lose weight slowly, meaning I have to create a sustainable lifestyle with this, not just some quick weight loss gimmick. At this point I would be content to lose one to three pounds a month.
2. I also know I can do well during the week when I'm at work and I can be on a schedule, but the weekends I tend to get lax. So I need to apply the same stringency over that time period rather than snacking all day long and giving in to every dessert that comes my way.
3. I do better when I have other people I am accountable to and can check in with.
4. Low carb tends to suit me better. I feel best when I cut the sugar/white flour and other high carb culprits.
5. Overall, consistency will be key.
Looking forward to joining you guys on this journey.

Hey guys!
Just realized I missed my re-introduction!
My name is Diana (you probably guessed that already though lol) I’m 35 and from New Jersey, USA. Optometrist full time and mommy morning and nights to a 1 year old boy who has stolen my heart and all my free time 😂😂
I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. Always been the “chubby one with the pretty face “ Lost about 60lbs 10 years ago and kept most of it off until I became a mommy last year. I’m 20lbs away from pre-baby weight and about 50lb from my goal weight. Previously I’ve lost weight just by exercising, calorie counting, portion control and even weight watchers, but this time around has
been much harder.
I found this group a few years ago, but life happened and had to stop tracking for personal reasons. Still surprised @micki48 remembered me!! 💕 I still remembered her and @jugar (although to be honest I always thought she was a man based solely on her username 😂)
I rejoined 2 months ago, but I have a great feeling about this coming month! I will be focusing on my activity with my peloton and increasing my strength training. Sticking within my calorie goal which I decided to lower a bit and getting my water in. I’m also trying to not eat anything past 8:30 pm
@ashleycarole86 I’d like to rejoin the step challenge with the same goal of 9000 😁
Best of luck everyone!6 -
Hi,
Right now my food choices could be better but I desperately need to get to the grocery store. I will go tomorrow when everyone else heads back to school/work. I have one extra day off 😁 Not snacking is so. darn. hard! It takes everything I've got to resist. I have a bowl of walnuts and almonds in the kitchen. I allow myself to snack on those while I prepare food. It takes too long to crack them so I maybe eat 2 or 3 nuts. I did intermittent fasting today and hit my calories but not macros.
It was sunny and beautiful so I got out for a hike. Then the kids collected the gingerbread houses. We put them outside for the deer every year after new years. This year we gave sugar and the gingerbread houses a proper send off. We lined the houses up at the top of the hill and sent them sliding off in a big race to the bottom. The kids took turns sledding and crashing into the houses. The deer will be happy to eat these sweet treats! Now the Christmas stuff is put away and all treats are gone!7 -

Good morning and happy new year, WaistAways!
CW for January 1st is 179.8, ugh, lol.
Still, not 180, so, I'll take it. And now to make progress.
Last night was my first gym night of the new year, and I did this backward arch, except with my hands on the chair seat:
The instructor said it looked very pretty. The room is covered in mirrors, I saw myself, it did look pretty good.
I've got crock pot bulgogi on for later, and I'll put it over either normal rice if I have enough calories, or cauliflower rice if I don't. Breakfast and lunch are packed (chicken sausage with egg whites, and two soy marinated eggs with tumeric sweet potatoes and chimicurri), looking forward to a good day diet-wise. Almost forgot my apple, gotta go do that.
Have a great day, everyone!
ETA goals for 2023! I'd like to be solidly 160 by the end of the year, if I can't hit goal, which I might- 150. There is a chasm between 160 and 150 for me, in my experience.
2023 will be the Year of the Split- I'm going to do a split at least one way (straddle, front left, or front right) by the end of the year. It will take almost daily practice to get there.
Workout goals: at least 4 classes a week, 240 minutes.9 -
@CupcakeCrusoe I bet you looked amazing! Love the splits goal too, how fun!
Well, I'm dressed and ready to hit the office. Yesterday was another good on track day. Today will be different - but some things are easier in the office (as in getting more steps naturally just by going there).
Hope everyone has a good day!8 -
CW 195.4
Strike one! Maybe I will be back on the regular team sooner than intended. Going to turn this wagon around right now!
We have one more day off before going back to work so we're driving into Montreal to take the mother in law out to dinner before we drop the step-daughter back at her mother's. I'm going to try to dig out the restaurant's menu online and make decisions ahead of time so I don't go overboard.
I use excuses like' MFP doesn't recognize the barcode' and I didn't make this recipe so I can't log it to get lazy with tracking. I remember I used to weigh everything, and it worked! My visual perception of a correct portion size is definitely not accurate.6 -
@CupcakeCrusoe Wow, congrats on the back arch on the chair! I think your goals sound great for the new year.
@ashleycarole86 Hope you have a good day back at the office. We're dreading the return to work as well. Home is definitely our happy place too. We can do this!6 -
Hi, today is the first day of school so I was able to walk my toddler to nursery after a lot of struggle (she was not having it) and make it to the gym.
This is my 2nd day this week at the gym so yay. I did about 35 mins of the cross trainer, 12kg kettle bell swings and deadlifts with 16kg kettle bell. I’m trying to incorporate more weights into my workout so I’m taking it slow. My whole upper body already hurts from that.
I’ve been careless with 2 fitness watches already so I got myself a pedometer instead to track my steps.
Have a great day everyone.

Weigh in day - Monday
My name is Joann and I'm thrilled to be part of the group. I apologize this week is busy being home with my daughter over the winter break but a short bio. I'm a RN and work full time in Edmonton Alberta and also taking my masters online. I have a 8 year old daughter and a new 7 month old German Shepherd puppy which is keeping us on our toes. Our last GSD we had to put down a few months ago and after a short time decided we needed another in the family.
I"m hoping that by being in this group I can gain some better habits and strategies for dealing with stress.
Look forward to meeting you all more6 -

Hey all! Sorry I missed my re-introduction earlier, but I started the new year with an electronics ban so now I'm playing catch up.
Anyways - I'm Ashley and I'm originally from Ohio but now live in NW Montana just outside of Glacier National Park. I'm a full time registered dietitian and public health nutritionist along with a 500hr yoga teacher. I'm a mom to a 15 1/2 year old, 5 cats, an Alusky pup, and recently married as of Sept.
My weight is within a normal BMI (although still higher than it's ever been), but my BF% is higher than I'd like. I fit into the 'skinny fat' category so my goal has been to focus more on body recomposition than pure loss. I've been into lifting for a while so this year, my goals are focused more on the weight I can lift as well as that pesky percentage than the number on the scale. I've already beat my 1RM from last May, so I'm going to keep going and see what I can do without trying to become a powerlifter!
I like to consider myself a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to my activity. I practice asana, run, bike, and lift regularly, with a lot of outdoor activities (like kayaking and backpacking/hiking) in the warmer months. I've been diagnosed with EDS, so I have scaled back on things and listen to my body more in order to prevent further injury.
My biggest struggle is that my husband is a disabled combat vet so we're pretty sedentary at home most of the time. It didn't used to be like this but it's progressively become worse each year, so my workouts only get to happen at work during lunch and my wellness time. My lunch used to be an hour but got cut to 30 mins so we could leave earlier. I try to make the most of what I can do, but it's made me realize that I have to be pretty vigilant about keeping track of what I eat since most of my day is stuck at a desk.
Goal Weight: 135
PW: 143.2
CW: 144.4 *grumble*7 -
Wow! What a busy day in here. I have been away from the computer all day, and will do some catching up later! First, it is Pilates and then EATING. I am so hungry, but will hold off until I earn that green check mark! I am loving the new year energy - back later...4

What a day!
We made an offer on a house this morning so fingers crossed!!
I had a busier day today due to catching up on emails after the holiday and meetings, but I took time to stand often and walk around the apartment in between sessions. It’s raining out today, so I did not get a chance (or really a desire in the dreary weather) to take my walk without my dog, but I did squeeze in a 20 minute Grow With Jo workout after work.
I did have a moment of negative thought; because I was not in the mood to do a strength workout, and I almost convinced myself that if I didn’t do that, I couldn’t do any workout at all, but I powered through and had fun with Jo’s workout!
We’re now back from our after work walk, soggy from the rain, but I can look forward to dinner because we have pasta for dinner tonight and I can enjoy a Yasso bar if I’m still hungry.
Have a good day/night everyone!8 -
Wait a minute.... It's Tuesday. My weigh in day is Friday. I weighed in this morning because I had a rescheduled hockey game last night and I always weigh in the morning after hockey... With the holidays messing with my internal calendar I lost track of the day of the week. I know it's the third.... But that is was Tuesday? Nope.... Lol4

Your plan is terrific - and identifying some things you need to watch out for is very wise. Just ignoring them somehow does not make them go away! Diet and tracking boredom is real. You will rebel sometimes for sure - I found the "one free day per week" thing helped a lot. I was good at keeping off the flour and sugar and their friends if I knew Saturday (or whatever day you like) was more free. I did not go too crazy, but it helped to put off cravings by having that day coming up each week. Losing a pound or two per month is doable for sure - and the changes will be permanent. Be sure to stop by here often - even if it is to moan and complain. That's when you need the encouragement (and kicks in the butt!) the most.cleaneater80 wrote: »My name is Joann and I'm thrilled to be part of the group. Stress is something that is discussed a lot in here! It is a vent-when-needed zone, and then hopefully you can take a deep breath and get on with what you need to do without inhaling an entire day's worth of calories in one go. I'm retired from most of the craziest stress, but will sit back and offer advice anyhow

Just checking in..it was a bit of a chaotic day and...back at work like many of you. I feel good about my food choices and quantity. Someone earlier was asking about pre-logging? I do best at tracking my food when I pre-log - usually as I lay in bed the night before OR if I made up something in bulk that I plan to have every day (soup, salads, oatmeal, etc) - I copy it from day to day and get it in there. So if my day changes, I just delete or adjust quantities, but I find it helps to have a plan already in my food diary.
@conleywoods love the gingerbread village photo - and the sled into them plan4 -

@CupcakeCrusoe you have until Friday to work on that number!! I'm sure you'll make a dent in it and make the gap with 180 bigger
That chair backbend looks amazing - and I sure wish I could still do the splits...
My heart goes out to all of you heading back to the office, the classroom, and the wild work environment. I'm seeing a lot of good plans and attitudes though - Hang in there!!

@DianaGetsFit512 @CupcakeCrusoe
Got your goals down for January!
On that note - final call for anyone who was participating in the December step challenge who still wants to get me your steps for the final week (Dec 25-31)
1/2 exercise:
6333 steps + 37 minutes Peloton4 -
@wishfuljune Keeping my fingers crossed your offer is accepted. What an exciting time!
@conleywoods We survived! My mental space was so poor at the end of last year, so I was determined to go in today with a better attitude. I can be my own worst enemy in my head. It won't ALWAYS work, but I managed well today.
Food is tracked.
Water has been consumed.
I am over my 10K steps.
Reading is done!
Brad rode the Peloton and we're just about to retreat for some dinner and TV.. my fav!!6 -
@ashleycarole86 So glad you made it through the day 🙌 Tomorrow it's my turn to brave work. It should be fine but it just isn't as nice as home.
Today was another day of being hungry at my normal snack time. It's such a hard habit to break and I think it's more habit than hunger 😕 I hope maybe work will distract me. I didn't snack and no sugar today either. Today was a breakfast, lunch and dinner day. Food was good but not on macros. I'm experimenting with food and macros and I am interested in making some changes. I see my wellness coach this Thursday so I can run it by her. I'm ready to try some new stuff. Got up at 5 am and did a 20 minute bike and a 15 minute HIIT. It was early and even the guinea pigs weren't excited to see me. They just stayed in bed for the first 15 minutes.
Love hearing about everyone's plans!
@wishfuljune Fingers crossed for getting the house! We want pictures if you get it.6 -
Forgot weigh in again, and I don't remember the PW but
CW: 172.4
To re introduce to the group. I am a 29 year old stay at home mom of my kids in Idaho. I had 20 years of riding and training horses before 2 major injuries in the past couple years left me finding a new path in life. Since having kids I had ballooned to my highest weigh of 200 lbs. I have gotten down to 170 ish which seems like a nice accomplishment but I don't feel like I look much different, and no one I know brings up that I look like I lost weigh, so that has been discouraging. I do notice things like jogging places and playing with kids is much easier and I can see more muscle definition so that's good.
I've been struggling with what seems to be gallbladder issues. I dropped down to low fat and felt great but it was boring so I slowly added in more variety of foods and suddenly find myself in pain again so time to cut down again.
I have a hard time getting exercise as I hate gym work and relied on horses to keep my exercise up. So I am having to work hard to keep active enough these days. I also despise winter and lack of sunshine so dealing with seasonal depression just kicks me when I'm down! This is by far my least favorite month for many reasons, so i need to focus on getting through while maintaining weigh, for me no major gain is the main goal this month.7 -
Good to see you @kto0194 ! You must miss working horses so much, and I know what you mean about having exercise become something that is somehow separate from "normal" life. Work that involves a lot of exercise is fantastic, but injuries can sure force a change. Keeping active feels good though - I hope you find some enjoyable ways to keep at it. It helps with depression too. Hugs to you!
Time for the Wednesday crowd to line up and get ready:

Good morning WaistAways!
@wishfuljune fingers crossed, how exciting!
@ashleycarole86 I hear you on poor mental space at work. I feel like no one really works super hard (or wants to) between all the holidays at the end of the year- too much to do outside work.
@conleywoods I'm not adverse to snack time, but when I get snacky and I'm not sure it's hunger, I drink a zero-sugar soda or a cup of interesting tea with splenda to get a taste of something, if that makes sense. Would that work for you?
@kto194 from 200 to 170ish is definitely a visible change- having gone through it myself (almost, lol). Either you see people so often that they didn't notice how gradually it happened, or people are very hesitant to comment on weight loss in case it wasn't planned, kwim? Either way, BIG congratulations from me!
Have a great day, everyone!5 -
Weigh In: Wednesday
PW: 152.2
CW: 150.6
My reintroduction: My name is Cristy and I'm 48 year old wife and mom to adult children (19 & 23). I've been struggling with perimenopause and 3 months ago figured out that my cholesterol was pretty high, so it was time to make a change. So I changed my diet and am trying to exercise more. I'm down nearly 15 pounds from Oct 1st, so I'm pretty happy with that. However I know there are still ways I need to improve. So my goals for the year are:
1) Drink more water. Sounds simple but I'm really bad about not drinking enough water throughout the day. And drinking plenty of water affects so many functions of our bodies... so I know it will impact my health if I follow through.
2) Exercise 30 minutes a day at least 3 days a week. Honestly I rather make my goal 5 or 6 days a week, but right now with my schedule, I just know that's not realistic, so I'm setting my expectations lower so hopefully I will follow through it.
Happy New Year!6 -

Yay! Off to a great start! Now I just need to maintain these habits! I read a post on facebook that said "you are not cheating, you are making a choice to deviate from your goals." That really stood out to me as really holding myself accountable for my choices. I know that this won't work for the long run if I think of this like a diet, it needs to be a lifestyle change. I'm working on solidifying some small habits to make small changes that add up to big results!
@kto0194 I had gallbladder issues about 10 years ago after losing 50 pounds relatively quickly. Kudos to you for following a lot fat diet to keep it manageable. I had mine removed, got out of the diet/exercise habit and gained a bunch of weight since I could eat fatty foods again 😂7
