Hi all! Austin here.
MY INTRODUCTION: I live in Austin, Texas, with my husband, Eric, plus a small menagerie (indoor cats Piku and Habibi; Beaver, a huge comet/goldfish; Fujin, a green cheek conure; and 5 backyard chickens including Blanca, the beauty; Elizabeth the bossy; and Amelia, my flyer). My hobbies include math, reading (I am on Goodreads), managing a Scout troop's parent committee, working on a literary conference, and, lately, birdwatching. My weigh-in day is Monday. I am at 214.8 and am looking to (re)lose about 90 pounds. My July goal — get under 210 by the end of the month.
ACTION PLANS FOR JULY:
- Food: Keep up food logging. Continue restricting food to 8 hours, and continue to stack calories early in the day. Keep eating a salad dinner, and keep finding more salad recipes, to keep that fun.
- Movement: Aim for at least 2 physical activities a day. Up my work on upper body (adding the dreaded pushups). Keep earning more Garmin badges for activity! Focusing on adding hiking this month.
I am sitting here sipping coffee and will head out for a walk after finishing this. It has been an odd morning, as my husband and I got up at 3 AM to get him to the airport on time. He just texted me a photo showing that he made it to his gate at O'Hare, so he is halfway there. The cats thought all that activity at that hour was very strange. I came home and took a nap, and now feel more human.
@trooworld @Katmary71 @micaroo4 - Thank you for being fearless leaders to keep this wonderful group going!
@bobboyardee and @txcritter69 — Congratulations on being in the green every week last month! So inspirational!
@trooworld — Thank you for the hilarious post with the canoe! That truly did make me smile in a big way. Boy, do I feel lighter now that my hips are down by a canoe!
@TeresaW2024 — Hurray for you, starting off the month with a loss! I love your goals of being proud at the end of July, and thinking about being in better shape for that big birthday coming in March! Food tracking sounds like a really smart choice, even though it feels a bit tedious to start. I am logging all my food, too, so I feel you on that.
Thank you, also, for continuing to check in. I feel like I am learning a lot, listening to you work on how to take care of your dear Joe. My grandmother did this for my grandfather, and I just had no idea what it must have been taking.
@trooworld — I am so sorry about your MCL injury. I am glad it's one of the injuries that heals. Hurray, you, for planning to keep up the work on your upper body — so smart!
@laurelfit57 - Great weigh-in! Great way to start July!
@Katmary71 — Oh, man, I am so sorry about the broken tooth. I have had a tooth fail suddenly, and I felt awful, as if I were disintegrating. Teeth are such strange and delicate things. {{big hug}}
@txcritter69 — Thank you for sharing the picture from your walk! Your plan sounds like a great one for blasting past that plateau!
@vegan4lyfe2012 — Your picture is great! You definitely have a lot of lovely reasons to take care of yourself! Hurray for the therapy! It's great you are working on things. I sympathize with the ankle management. Since walking isn't a happy thing right now… are you doing ankle edema exercises or yoga to help get circulation going? My understanding of circulation in legs is that it's movement (muscles contracting) that moves fluid out of our legs, so maybe you can find ways to get your legs moving? Or maybe you do all that already? Anyway, keep working the problem. I hope things improve.
@DrewsAnna — I hope that you have finally conquered the gnats. Fingers crossed for you!

Hi 👋
Well, I looked at the sticky traps, I haven't quite conquered the gnats yet. My dragon fruit is so prickly, I didn't think they would be in that, but between that and my succulents, I need to figure it out. Grrr... I'm so tired of this battle.
Today should be the last day of high temps, thankfully! Tomorrow, it'll be back into the 70's and I can go outside.
Tomorrow is my weigh in and I'm not feeling real good about it, but it will be only a slight gain.
Yall have a great day 😀

WEIGH INS DUE TODAY FROM @FushiaKat
Reminder To WEigh In TOmorrow To @DrewsAnna @drews @drews @drew @drewsanna @lislisa123 @DrewsAnna1 -
@DrewsAnna Is your dragon fruit in the house or outside? I’m having trouble with the mushrooms and fungal gnats it was so disgusting in the farm office I put everything outside last time I was there and am thinking of turning all of that into compost and starting with new ones Friday. I hope you get them under control! How nice to have weather in the 70s tomorrow! We’re lucky if it’s under 95 this time of year. Hugs on the weigh in just keep in mind no matter what it is you can change it.
@AustinRuadhain I love reading your intro I hadn’t realized you had that many pets! I can see you crushing the 210 very soon! Thank you! I’m sorry to hear about your tooth fail it’s so frustrating and a great self esteem crasher. I’ve had root canals in most my teeth so it happens real easy these days and I hate it.
@TeresaW2024 Thank you! I hope Joe’s blood work goes well and am hoping he’s improved a lot from last time. Good luck at church! You totally got those 5lbs coming off this month!
@trooworld It makes me sad you feel you have to NOT talk about your surgery. Thank you. GAH NO! I’m so sorry to hear about your knee darnit! You go and crush that upper body workout! I hope you heal fast and can get back to it soon. I have been having a blast following along at all you’re doing and if there’s one person who can get back to it it’s you.
Hi gang! So good news the tooth is easy to glue as long as I don’t eat or drink anything. The dentist’s office didn’t call me back despite calling three times but the dentist I see is only there two days a week so that may be why. I can’t stand the office manager as she doesn’t call when each fitting of the partial comes in and seriously told me once when I’d been waiting for her to mail everything for authorization that she had a bunch of emergencies then forgot to send it in so it’s not her fault it took her 3 months to mail something. Kittens got weighed yesterday and the week before they’d all lost weight due to diarrhea and this week they each gained 10oz-1lb so woohoo! That means they’ll get first vaccines once antibiotics stop and they can be scheduled for spay/neuter. I got my allergy shot earlier and got my orthotic supports, they feel great so far. Got caught up on work and now I have 5% left of my book to read before the library takes it back today so time to run, have a great Wednesday!

Maintenance Goal 135 - 140
Weeks in maintenance 27 of 52PW: 137.6
CW: 137.4Yay we have our Court Date December 15th at 8am. I wonder if they will decide to settle before the date. They would have to bring me a check and pick up the trike and accessories and take them back to their shop. Then I would not cancel the court date until the check cleared.
It's really hot here but I'm riding my Bike in the morning's I have 33 miles and no problems so far. Works great.
I've been wanting to eat everything in sight lately; it's a struggle not to. My friend sent me a big box of different kinds of Mango's; I'm slowly eating my way thru the box. I expect to gain weight this week.

Morning everyone!
Just checking in as am day off today so planning on a day of r and r with a few errands thrown in lol
Been up and down with food this week after a trip to the GP who has sent me for bloods for some further investigation, next appt they had was 16th July so just doing what I can till then. I did take the opportunity to speak to the GP about my weight struggles and she has said to focus on fibre / protein and whole foods so going to prioritise those between now and my follow up appt.
Hope everyone is doing well and starting July off strong 😊

@TeresaW2024 Thank you ! Oh yes, you are right! LOL I can drive and go to work. Oh gosh, I wish they would but my knee is feeling much better and they probably won't let me work from home more than my usual Fridays. But at least my knee is feeling better! I hope yesterday went well for you guys. It must be really stressful to be worried about Joe falling all the time. You got this, have a good month and congrats on the loss!
@AustinRuadhain I love your plan for the month . What an early trip to the airport! You are welcome! I'm glad it made you smile. Thanks, I am glad it will heal on its own, too!
@Katmary71 Oh no , I am going to talk about my surgery, I decided, so don't be sad! So far, I've only had good reactions (besides that one lady that was kind of meh about it). Thank you, I figure I'll keep up the habit of going to the gym by doing those upper body workouts. My knee is already feeling much better! Thank you, that's very sweet of you! I'm glad your tooth can be put back in place (at least temporarily) easily. That makes sense why they aren't calling you back. That's great that the kittens have gained that weight. I hope you got through your book!
@FushiaKat That's great you have a court date . I love mangos.
@micaroo4 Thank you ! I've been following the orders so far and it is already feeling much better. I will continue to follow instructions as I don't want a set-back!
@Cornanda Thank you !
@alimalli86 I hope you enjoy your day off .
Hi all. My knee is feeling better today after staying off it yesterday. Maybe it won't take two weeks to heal. I will continue to follow doctor's orders for the next two weeks, as Comic-Con International is coming up later this month and I want to be able to have a good time! I wore my knee brace to work and left it on all day. I iced my knee, too. I did everything the doctor wanted me to do. Last night, I had leftover soup for dinner as I didn't feel like cooking. Tonight, I will have to cook, though, as I am out of leftovers!
Tracked yesterday? Yes

@AustinRuadhain, I love all the names of your animals! And I must admit that I’ve never heard of someone having math as their hobby. I see math, and I instantly get out the calculator. 😀 I am sorry your grandmother had to be a caregiver to your grandfather. I never even thought about the toll it takes on the caregiver before I became one. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure! ☹️
@DrewsAnna I have fought gnats for years and only have two plants in my house because of them. I found that Neem oil spray works fairly well. The best thing for gnats in my opionion are those indoor fly traps that plug into the wall. They have LED light to attrack them and a stickly glue board to kill them. They work so well! I just replaced my sticky boards, which were covered in the little suckers! Here is a link to the one I bought, but there are a lot to choose from. Fly Trap
@Katmary71 Good grief, that dentist's office manager needs to do her job or find a new one! 😖Are all the kittens going to be spayed or neutered at once? I am thinking of all those poor babies being all loopy from the anesthesia. They will be sooooo cute and needy!! 😍
@trooworld I’m glad your knee feels better! Is this the same Comic-Con where you were in so much pain and couldn’t walk around without being in terrible pain? I hope your knee does get better so you can have a blast this year! 😀
Good morning! So, it turned out Joe’s potassium and hemoglobin were low again. He has to go back on the potassium pills, which he hates. He also lost a significant amount of weight again. At last month’s visit, he was 174, and yesterday he weighed 156. His doctor stressed to him that he has to eat and focus on protein. I just ordered some of those Fairlife Core Power drinks, which are high in protein. I’m praying they are tasty and that he will drink them. My day yesterday was a bit of a bust on my new month plan. I didn’t work out or track my food. I plan to do much better today! 😊
DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does “balance” look like for you on your weight loss journey?I am trying to find the balance in my life in having to be flexible with Joe’s care and continuing to care for myself. Each day is different and trying to find that balance can be challenging.

Hi 👋
@TeresaW2024 Thank you for the link, it's already in my cart.
@Katmary71 my dragon fruit is inside. I recycle the soil into the outside gardens. They gardens seem to really like it. I know almost not about composting. I tried it once and it was mostly egg shells, lol... I didn't really get it. I have had plants since I was a young adult, and this whole tropical plant thing is a whole new experience for me. Lol… I'm surely learning a lot very quickly 😅😅😅
Hi 👋
I knew I would have a gain this week, its only 0.2 of a lb., so I can handle that.
I'm happy that it's going to be cooler today, I can go outside again.
DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does “balance” look like for you on your weight loss journey?
I don't really know anymore… I don't really have balance anymore, my life has changed so much, I just kinda go from day to day and hope for the best…

@FushiaKat I agree with your thinking on the trike I hope it isn’t dragged out too long. Love imagining you happily riding your trike! Oh I love the box of assorted mangoes! I got my Dad to switch from giving me cookies to fruits and veggies and I appreciate it when he remembers. I hope you don’t have much of a gain from them.
@Cornanda Hug back thank you!
@alimalli86 Sounds like a good plan to focus on you got this !
@trooworld So glad the knee is doing better yay! I’m glad you’re sharing the surgery I think most people don’t have a clue what someone goes through having it unless they’re close to someone who has had it. I’m lucky you and my other friends who have had it are open to all my nosy questions! Oh definitely take it easy for Comic-Con no missing it or struggling this year for you!
WHAT DOES BALANCE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? Basically eating healthy most the time with occasional treats and getting in workouts. I’m realizing it’s a lot more than that and am trying to strike a balance with most things I do.
@TeresaW2024 Wow that’s a huge drop in weight I hope Joe loves the Fairlife drinks and does well drinking them. I’ve heard they taste real good. I admire how well you’ve been doing finding balance and am glad you’re back with us.
@littlebabekitty Hugs my friend welcome back!
@DrewsAnna You made me laugh I’m not the best composter either. I’ve honestly been dumping kitchen scraps into the composter for months and you’re supposed to stop and use it but I just keep throwing more in. Weirdly it only has two small holes there’s no area to open it wider to get it out. I’ve actually read about it just need to put it into practice. That’s wonderful you have plants that have grown up with you! I think I posted it on Instagram but I won a dragon fruit and it just started growing side shoots. The person who raffled it told me not to treat it like a cactus but a tropical so I’ve been watering more and it worked! That’s one cool thing about gardening is there’s always another rabbit hole to go down.
Hi gang! Crazy long day I had a 10AM scan and one at 1:30 and left real early to make sure I got there on time. I took a book and read for the few hours in between then came home and tried the dentist again and was told to hurry and get there. The dentist laughed and said I had some horrible luck, since it’s a new dentist it was kinda funny. Since I’m getting the partial he said we can add another tooth on as the adaptations from Monday aren’t at the other office yet so it won’t take too long. He filed my tooth down to take the impression for it so fingers crossed it works out okay. My brother’s kitty just came out and is rubbing on my laptop trying to get my attention so I’d better give her a brushing and some food. Have a great Thursday!

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does “balance” look like for you on your weight loss journey? Balance to me has always been about time. I allocate time for meal planning, shopping and meal prep. I have an exercise schedule. If I can get in some extra exercise doing something fun, then that's great - but otherwise it's just the schedule. I meditate every day, and I write in my journal. In terms of food, I generally stay On Plan for 97% of the time, which for me means having maybe one sweet treat per month.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does “balance” look like for you on your weight loss journey?
I found this a difficult question to answer. As a single retiree in relatively good health (at the present moment), I don't have the busy, "ups and downs" life of so many of you with work, family and pet responsibility. "Balance" for me can't become something boring, or letting myself become lazy physically or mentally, or feeling I'm in a rut. At present, I do feel in a rut. Gone are those months I could 'easily' (well, pretty much!) lose 10 lbs at least, if not more. June I only lost 2.6 total… was a month of day to day, week to week, going down a little, then going up a little, like a see-saw in slow motion! My exercising has been off, somewhat. I've been eating healthy food, but my portion control has been off as well. My head is not in the game! I joined the men's online TOPS group thinking it would help me stay on track and be accountable, but frankly these guys (most younger than me, somewhat), still eat worse than me, and are less active than me, and seem to lose and gain the same one pound! LOL (Yeah, I 'know' I'm being terribly judgmental !!!😒) It actually occurred to me that perhaps a mainly women-majority TOPS group might actually be better, after all. That women are more serious about weight loss, than guys? [End of my mental tangent]

@TeresaW2024 Thank you , me too! Yes! Same Comic-Con that was h*ll last year. Luckily (kind of), we could only get a ticket for one day this year. Hopefully I can make it! Oh no! I'm sorry about Joe's losing weight and needing the pills again. I love the Fairlife Core Power drinks, the chocolate ones taste like chocolate milk. :) I hope he will drink them. It sounds like you had enough to do yesterday, today will be better.
@Littlebabekitty Welcome back ! Sorry about your struggles.
@Katmary71 Thank you ! I think you are right, most people have no clue. I am totally open to questions! No, no missing Comic Con this year! I'm glad you got your scan over with. That's good you were able to get into the dentist and it won't take too long to get the results this time.
@baodell17724 I hope you can find the online support group that can help you . That must be frustrating to be among those men.
DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does “balance” look like for you on your weight loss journey?
Hmmm...for me, it means eating enough protein (at least 60 g a day), drinking enough water (at least 48 oz a day), eating healthily at least 80% of the time, and exercising at least 3 days a week. It means practicing saying "NO" when I need to, which has historically been hard for me. I'm not good with boundaries. It means putting myself first. Also not good at that.Hi all. My knee is feeling much better. I have to work today but my boss and a senior coworker are gong to be out so I am wearing jeans to work. It should (hopefully) be an easy day. Last night, I made Buffalo Chicken Lavash Flatbread, an America's Test Kitchen recipe. It came out really well and I really enjoyed it.
Tracked yesterday? Yes

@Katmary71 Joe said the Fairlife was OK. Good enough for me! That's good news that the dentist can add another tooth to the partial. How long do you have to wait to get it? Hopefully, it will fit perfectly so you won’t have to deal with it any longer. 🙂
@baodell17724 I ’ve been a member of TOPS on and off for years, and I’ve always found it to be much more of a support group than a weight loss group. I’m sure if a women’s group would be any better for you, but it might be worth a try. 🙂
@trooworld I ’m so glad your knee is feeling better! Yum to Buffalo chicken flatbread!! 👍
Good morning! So, yesterday Joe woke up from his nap and decided to go to the bathroom by himself, and of course, he fell. I was working on my puzzle and heard a crash. I rushed in to see him lying on the floor. After seeing that he wasn’t dead or hurt, I promptly lost my mind all over him as I got the electric lift to get him off the floor and back into the bedroom. I’m ashamed of how badly I yelled and fumed at him over getting out of bed. It’s like I go outside my body and just can’t stop the tide of emotion that I’m feeling in that moment. Mostly, I’m mad at myself for not having him on the camera and horrified that if he got hurt, I would only have myself to blame. So, after we calmed down and expressed our apologies to each other, I went on Amazon and bought a bed alarm that will alert me if he even thinks about getting out of bed. I was so upset for the rest of the evening, but I have to forgive myself and him and move forward or his dementia is going to give me a freaking heart attack! I did okay yesterday with my eating and workout, and I plan to do the same today. Thanks for letting me vent! 🙂3 -
@baodell17724 - once upon a time I was a WW member, and the group did nothing for me. Like you said, they seem to lose and regain the same one pound over and over, and not make progress. They spent the entire meeting talking about food, and when I got out of the meeting I was ravenous from all the food talk! Too much talk about using sugar substitutes to reduce the calories so they could still eat junk. I don't know if you can find a support group that really gives you the support you want. I eventually found the support I needed in an online community (similar to this) where there was a challenge to lose the amount of weight you pledged to lose during the 3-week challenge. No awards, just bragging rights. We used to pledge up to 6 pounds and xxx number of exercise minutes, and we were scored based on a percentage of our pledge (no one scored more than 100%, so that people wouldn't under-pledge). I also found support by working with one or two online buddies who would connect in chat rooms when we needed that compassionate friend to help talk us through a crisis.
@TeresaW2024 - Falls are so scary, and once you get launched into panic-mode, it's really hard to reverse the freak out. It's like there's a part of your brain that is hitting an alarm and shouting "Danger! Danger!", and you can't get it to calm down because it's locked in a soundproof room and it can't hear what the logical part of your brain it trying to tell it. I hope the bed alarm does what you want and need it to do. ((((HUGS))))
@trooworld - I'm glad your knee feels better, but keep remembering that Comic-com is coming, and don't push it!

@Katmary71 – Oh no. I am so sorry about your teeth. How frustrating. Sounds like the new dentist is willing to help on short notice. Fingers crossed you get your partial soon!
@trooworld – I’m glad you noticed the difference, too. Oh how awful about your MCL. Thankful that it will heal on its own. Oh how I hope your knee holds out for you at Comic-Con this year!
@TeresaW2024 – I think I’ll have Oliver ride in the stroller LOLs. Poor Joe. I hope the meds don’t bother him too much. And I’m glad he’s tolerating the protein drinks. I am so sorry about him falling again and you yelling at him. It’s understandable and no one is faulting you for it. You’ve beaten yourself up and apologized. I think the bed sensor is a smart idea. Sydney is working with Oliver’s neurologist to try and get him one of the bed sensors that will alert her if he has a seizure. It’s amazing the things technology can do now.
@AustinRuadhain – I’ve never heard of ankle edema exercises…I will be going down a rabbit hole on that one!
@littlebabekitty – I’m glad you decided to come back. I’ve been struggling, too, and my last weigh in was 2 pounds heavier than my heaviest. Hugs.
@lislisa123 – Hugs
@baodell17724 – I used to work evening front desk at a hotel when I was 19. The Weight Watchers ladies met there on Wednesdays. They would have to walk past the little side room I’d sneak my cigarettes in and I could hear them talking. It was always about where they were going to go eat after their weigh in. Usually McDonald’s. I worked there for years and never saw any of them actually get any smaller. I don’t think it matters if a group is male or female. It’s a matter of finding serious like-minded people. It’s tough.
I am super excited for this evening – my BFF showed up this week from Arizona and we’re getting together for dinner and then she’s coming over to my house to walk to the fireworks with us. She has her youngest daughter with her (9 years old), so it will be super fun. I just have to make sure I don’t try to walk too fast. But I decided yesterday that I’m not going to wear Oliver. He’s just too heavy for my back. He can go in the stroller. Hunter and family are coming over, too, so B & B will be in a double stroller. I’m hoping Byron doesn’t freak out this year like he did last year. We shall see!
Happy Independence Weekend!2 -
Hi 👋
I'm going to join the WW conversation. I did WW in 2007, I did really well. I lost about 30 lbs., got down to 120-125. I started at about 155. When, I started it was me and 2 friends. Yes, after the meetings we would go to Applebee's, I would always get the WW tilapia meal, (at that time, Applebee's had about 5 or 6 WW meals), it was great. I enjoyed the group meetings, it was good to have the face to face emotional support and I had to "learn" how to lose weight because I never had to do that before. It took about 10 months (June or July of 2008) to lose that 30 lbs., and when I hit my goal, I was going to meetings by myself because my friends had dropped off. Fast forward to January 3rd of 2009, I was 43 yrs old and had my first heart attack. I spiraled after, always having panic attacks, it took a long time to leave the house by myself. I gained all my weight back and then some. Ever since I have been up and down and all over the place. Twice, I have managed to get down to 140 something ish... I really wish I could find an actual face to face group meeting near me because that is something that would really help me, but I think with technology the way it is today, that is a thing of the past.
About 4 or 5 yrs ago, I tried WW online, that did not work for me at all.
I forgot where I was going with this, sorry 😞 😔 😟
I love this group, everyone here has been very helpful.

hi friends! It has been a crazy week thus far, our temperature has been around 100° and humid. I am not a hot weather person! My eating has been OK but not great and I haven't been to the gym yet this week. Tomorrow I am going to do spin and yoga first thing. My daughter and grandkids came over along with some friends and we were at the pool for four hours. I can hardly keep my eyes open but I just wanted to do a quick check in . I will do better tomorrow :-).
