How is your blood pressure? Low is always good, but it can cause things like this.

Low is not always good but I understand the position the comment was made from. I have bouts where my BP is 88/55 with hr at 40 bpm and I struggle to function. Spent yesterday afternoon and evening at the local teaching hospital. I think it is related to being on low level blood pressure meds and having lost 30kgs with no change in prescription. However the concern is that my BP is also at 120/80 some of the time, there is a balance between high bp and low bp, I don't seem to be able to get into the Goldilocks zone, just right. A whole battery of checks were done yesterday, with no conclusive outcomes and more continuous monitoring tests are required. I don't feel safe about doing c210k sessions on the roads at the moment because I do not know how I am going to react. And everything was going so well. Looks like maintenance with no exercise for a while. I wish you all success on your upcoming sessions and look forward to hearing about them.

Thanks for the info! My family tends to be prone to low blood pressure, so I've asked about it and doctors have joked that they don't worry about it unless it's caused by your bleeding to death. Now I know more. And that's always a good thing (I think) :)

I hope you find out what is causing your issue soon! That's got to be scary.

Do you get the flashing lights and slight dizziness that I got last Sunday?

I used to get that Donna and it was caused by anaemia. Be sure to get a check up with your doctor to find out the cause.

Off topic, but in for the roll...

Here's a Blog I follow, a local teacher who runs. He's a great guy, always encouraging people to run.

I have not gotten the flashing lights but I did get a bout of dizziness 9 miles into an 11 mile run - bad enough that I had to stop and crouch over at the side of the road until it passed. My trainer suggested I add electrolytes to my water after that (it was in the spring when I was just getting used to running in warmer temps again) so I bought some Gu tablets to dissolve in my water and it hasn't happened since.

Last night was intended to by my LSR, 5k solo, 5k with the group doing intervals or laps (laps for me!) and then an easy group 5k to finish it out. Distances went to plan, the first 5k and the laps were nice and easy, 5:30-5:45 pace on average for the first 10.x km
The last 5k though.. a great run but totally destroyed the LSR idea. As the group headed out I intended to stick towards the back and force myself to take it easy, my friend from work and her OH missed that message. They missed most of the intervals/laps so both were fresh as daisies. With the group run we break into different groups based on speed, the only rule we have in place is that each group MUST have someone with a headlamp or a torch as it is darkrun after all. L & P didn't have either and after they took off at the head of the pack, I saw where it was going and chased them down, once I caught them I stuck at their pace (I felt kinda responsible for both of them too as I am the one that 'dragged' them down there) all 3 of chatted a bit as we ran. It wasn't easy, but we could chat so it wasn't "I'm gonna die!" hard either. Finished the final 5k of the night in a smidge over 25 minutes, with several PB's in that 5k.
Surprisingly my legs feel great this morning, but I'm not going to make it a regular thing to try and knock out 25min 5k's as the last part of a 15k run. Last night is also my PB for most KM's run in an entire day, only by 500m or so, but I'll take it!

That sounds intense, taeliesyn. Nicely done! 15K!! Wow!...and with PBs!

It felt intense, what has surprised me is looking back at the splits etc, my last km was done at something like a 4:30 pace overall, and I still had enough in my legs and lungs to have the final 200-300m done sub 4min pace. O.O
I really need to go for a good hit at a 5k pb with a pacer so I have someone to chase down otherwise I don't push myself hard enough.

I just can't imagine running 15kms at the moment especially as 3 5kms as described and at night. I am impressed, it sounds as though if you cannot get a pacer to force you along, a 5km race with the edge that may or may not give you depending on how you react to competition. Well done, look forward to you getting more pbs, it sounds as though there is opportunity if you can focus on a single 5km run.

This month is an exception, but I do parkrun most weekends. I have a friend that runs one of the local ones (a lot flatter course than my normal) that keeps trying to get me there to have a bash at my real 5k pb. I think I might see if he can tee up a pacer for when I do get there. Now to just figure out what time I want the pacer to be LOL

Holy cow!! Everyone is doing so great!

Yesterday, was the first time I've ran for 30 minutes in a loooooooooooong time. I've gotten so used to doing straight up longer runs that I forgot what it's like. I tried to push myself a little faster since it's a shorter distance, and I thought I was doing really well despite a developing chest cold and the stagnant humidity we had yesterday. Then I looked at my mile splits and realized that, in fact, I was running at the same pace I've always been at, 12:30/mile :(. Darn, I felt like I was on the brink of a sprint the whole time!!!!

A muggy, muggy day. I ran 6K in 47:45 (3.75 miles...so approx. a 13 min/mile). A bit slower than normal but I'm happy with my runs this summer. My usual summer goal is just to go out, run and not give into the heat.

Should have run yesterday, but I've got a hotspot on the ball of my left foot that is bothering me, so I rode instead. Made a quick loop around the national park.

Hope the hot spot settles down soon Ceci!

Patrya and Andie, I hope you both adjust to the humidity (as much as one can) quickly!

No run yet for me, running tonight with the aim of trying to connect some trails I run, with some trails a friend runs. Hope I don't get lost!

I decided to take a week off running due to some achilles pain that won't go away. It's hasn't gotten any worse but it's not getting better either. I should have stopped 3 weeks ago when the pain first started but it's so hard to stop running. The decision really bothered me for a while but I think I'm over it now. I'll substitute some stationary bike & elliptical at the gym in the meantime. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

12k of trail for me this arvo, didn't quite reach the point of linking with a friends trails that I was hoping, but I didn't feel like doing 14k+. Still had nearly 400m(1200ft+) of elevation change, and averaged just under 7min/km pace for the entire run. Ankle was a little twitchy towards mid point and on the way home. Inside of my ankle, so I think it's an over use from countering for my sprained ankle a few weeks ago.
I have a Mudd Run this weekend, which will push my weekly mileage out to nearly 50km, my biggest week EVER!

Hope your Achilles settles with the rest Tim!

My morning run was one of those days. My legs felt like lead. I made it 2 miles at a slower pace than usual. I think I need more sleep! I struggled on my bike ride last night too.

Good news, no foot pain after this morning's run!

Ugh, I hate those days, Ceci!! Glad to hear your foot is feeling better though :).

Today was a long run day of 6 miles. Timing was slower than I would have liked, but at least the weather was GORGEOUS this morning! It's making me really excited for running in the fall.

Are you feeling better, Andiebeanluvs? Great run. I'm excited about running in the fall, too.

Ceci, glad to hear that your foot pain is gone today. Sorry about your legs feeling so heavy. Get a good night's sleep tonight (I need one, too).

Tim, sorry about your injury, too. Hope you're back running real soon.

Taeliesyn, great distance!! I can't imagine running 12K. I think that's so great!

Today was the muggiest running day of the summer. I felt as if I barely moved and the water was dripping off me (sorry, TMI?). It was also my slowest run since I can't remember when: 5K in 41:00. However, I'm very happy for having just made it.
This summer has shown me how far I've come as a runner. I'm getting out there, despite a very hot, dry and now muggy summer. I am not using heat as an excuse to stay home. I'm doing my best but not overdoing it and not sweating (haha) about my slower times. I am happy just maintaining.
Just running through the summer is making me a stronger runner. Just wait 'til the fall. I hope to be able to pick up the pace and distance. I'm sure I can pick up some distance....not so sure about the pace but I'm going to keep trying.

Well said Petra, I feel the same too. We've had a hot, humid summer and running has been difficult but I just get out there and don't worry about my times.

Yesterday my son came on a 3k run with me. He's 12 and he kicked my butt! But he did push me out of my comfort zone. I am normally about 30 seconds a km slower running off road, but yesterday I ran at the same speed as my road runs. I'm just glad it was only 3k! I should get him to pace me over 5k and I'd definitely break 30 minutes!!

Hope your Achilles is feeling better after your week off. I know how hard it is to stop running. I have a few niggles at the moment and can't decide whether to take some time off now or wait till after my race in 6 weeks.

Hope everyone's aches and pains are healing and that they do not knock you off your plans for too long. And for those of you who are going strong that your races and training continues well over the weekend.

With the continual dizziness when getting up and down, I have had to stop the strength training, squats with 60 kgs probably not a great idea. However persuaded my better half to keep an eye on me when going around the perimeter of the local park last night, she had the children. Although boring I got c210k w10d1 done. It felt a lot slower but no bad after effects will see what tomorrow brings

    Have great weekend everyone

W10d2 completed, felt hard and slow, but was actually harder and faster than a week ago. HR up a couple of beats, splits a second or too faster overall. I will not rely on my perception, the last couple of kms was slower than normal though. Hope you are all having success over the weekend

Great run, ftrobbie! You're almost at the end of that program. Nice work. How's the dizziness? I hope that's disappearing.

I'm slowly working my way through the C210K program, too, but stopped for the summer. I will finish it this winter sometime and by spring I will run 10k, without a walking break, at least once.

Being the weekend, I got to run in the morning when it's cooler and I used my new shoes. One or both of these elements made a world of difference. My legs didn't feel so heavy. I think it's the shoes. Heavy legs were my sign for changing shoes before. My run time was shortened by about 2 minutes!! I ran 6Kin 46:24, which is closer to my normal time. Heat plays a big role in my time but it appears that shoes do, too. Good lesson to learn.

Next weekend, I'm not on-call (work), meaning I can roam further away from home (pager only goes off in emergencies where I have to go in and I'm supposed to be able to leave fairly quickly). I'm going to try a new trail that I think is about 9K long (guestimate). I'm looking forward to trying a new pathway.

Nope, seeing consultants on Tuesday but after Friday, I know I am fine if I am up and about a little bit before going out. Thanks for the thoughts, I am a little depressed with not being up to jump out of a seat and be ready to go. I think the real lows 85/60 sys/dia blood pressure have disappeared although the symptoms still exist.

Congrats on getting back to your normal times, the environmentals are always hard to factor into performance, whether it is heat, wind or elevation. Luckily heat is not a huge problem in the UK although I am a morning runner normally just after sunrise, when everything is nice and fresh.

Hope all goes well this week and you can enjoy your new trail next weekend. Have fun.

Well this morning I did my 11 mile run. I kept telling myself, that if I didn't finish it, then I would have to do it again. That was a big motivation for me. :) I'm now wondering if signing up for a half marathon was a good idea at all.

Again, as last Sunday, I set out later than I wanted. Last week was me being lazy, but this week was different. This morning I had some intestinal cramps. Very light. Not a big deal at all normally, but there is no way that I want to risk diarrhea or even loose stools while on a long run. I ate some breakfast and waited them out until I felt a bit better. Luckily that happened and after a few hours I was ready to go on my run.

Today was supposed to be sunny, but again luckily it was actually partly cloudy, and got a bit cloudier as the morning progressed and the temps rose. So no continual bright sun like last week. Also, because of last week, I made a point of resting for 15 minutes while I was halfway through the run. I rested under the shade of a tree before I started back. I still had to remind myself that I had to do an 11 mile run and a 12 mile run before my half marathon, according to my training plan. So unless I finished this run successfully, I would have to repeat it. That helped me keep going.

The plan actually called for a 10k race this weekend, followed by 11 miles next weekend and 12 miles on Labor Day weekend. The thing is, on Labor Day weekend I'm going to have a difficult time getting a long run in until Monday and I really don't want to run 12 miles on the Monday before my Saturday half marathon. I'm hoping that doing 11 this weekend, 12 next weekend, and the 10k on Labor Day Monday, will work out okay. With multiple three and four mile runs during the weeks of course. The plan says two 3 mile runs and one 5 mile run each week, but I'm happier with four 3 or 4 mile runs during the week and my fitness classes as well, of course.

Although the run did go well, I'm feeling less confident about the half marathon itself.

Given that you have done 11 miles I am sure the half will be fine. Iam surprised though that you are doing a long run 7 days out from the half, most plans I have seen half the last long run 2 weeks out. They then ramp it down to ensure that you are fresh. However given that I am not even at 10k yet,I could easily be wrong.

I am still in awe of people running near half marathon lengths, I walked 10k yesterday afternoon after doing the 8k run session in the morning and I was glad to sit down at the end. I hope the remaining of your training goes well.

Donna, you sound like you are well prepared and I am sure you will have no problem with your HM.

Robbie, I hope you get your dizziness/blood pressure sorted out.

I ran 12k yesterday, I had had a hard workout the day before and my legs were tired and heavy. The first few km I felt like I was shuffling not running! Things picked up in the last 5k and I finished with negative splits. I had a thought that I would like to enter a HM, but I don't want to train for one, lol! My training plan has me running 10 mile long runs so I might look for one after my 10k race and just wing it, I'm not looking to be competitive just to finish.
