Are you feeling better, Andiebeanluvs? Great run. I'm excited about running in the fall, too.
Ceci, glad to hear that your foot pain is gone today. Sorry about your legs feeling so heavy. Get a good night's sleep tonight (I need one, too).
Tim, sorry about your injury, too. Hope you're back running real soon.
Taeliesyn, great distance!! I can't imagine running 12K. I think that's so great!
Today was the muggiest running day of the summer. I felt as if I barely moved and the water was dripping off me (sorry, TMI?). It was also my slowest run since I can't remember when: 5K in 41:00. However, I'm very happy for having just made it.
This summer has shown me how far I've come as a runner. I'm getting out there, despite a very hot, dry and now muggy summer. I am not using heat as an excuse to stay home. I'm doing my best but not overdoing it and not sweating (haha) about my slower times. I am happy just maintaining.
Just running through the summer is making me a stronger runner. Just wait 'til the fall. I hope to be able to pick up the pace and distance. I'm sure I can pick up some distance....not so sure about the pace but I'm going to keep trying.0 -
Well said Petra, I feel the same too. We've had a hot, humid summer and running has been difficult but I just get out there and don't worry about my times.
Yesterday my son came on a 3k run with me. He's 12 and he kicked my butt! But he did push me out of my comfort zone. I am normally about 30 seconds a km slower running off road, but yesterday I ran at the same speed as my road runs. I'm just glad it was only 3k! I should get him to pace me over 5k and I'd definitely break 30 minutes!!0 -
I decided to take a week off running due to some achilles pain that won't go away. It's hasn't gotten any worse but it's not getting better either. I should have stopped 3 weeks ago when the pain first started but it's so hard to stop running. The decision really bothered me for a while but I think I'm over it now. I'll substitute some stationary bike & elliptical at the gym in the meantime. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Hope your Achilles is feeling better after your week off. I know how hard it is to stop running. I have a few niggles at the moment and can't decide whether to take some time off now or wait till after my race in 6 weeks.0 -
Hope everyone's aches and pains are healing and that they do not knock you off your plans for too long. And for those of you who are going strong that your races and training continues well over the weekend.
With the continual dizziness when getting up and down, I have had to stop the strength training, squats with 60 kgs probably not a great idea. However persuaded my better half to keep an eye on me when going around the perimeter of the local park last night, she had the children. Although boring I got c210k w10d1 done. It felt a lot slower but no bad after effects will see what tomorrow brings
Have great weekend everyone0 -
W10d2 completed, felt hard and slow, but was actually harder and faster than a week ago. HR up a couple of beats, splits a second or too faster overall. I will not rely on my perception, the last couple of kms was slower than normal though. Hope you are all having success over the weekend0

Great run, ftrobbie! You're almost at the end of that program. Nice work. How's the dizziness? I hope that's disappearing.
I'm slowly working my way through the C210K program, too, but stopped for the summer. I will finish it this winter sometime and by spring I will run 10k, without a walking break, at least once.
Being the weekend, I got to run in the morning when it's cooler and I used my new shoes. One or both of these elements made a world of difference. My legs didn't feel so heavy. I think it's the shoes. Heavy legs were my sign for changing shoes before. My run time was shortened by about 2 minutes!! I ran 6Kin 46:24, which is closer to my normal time. Heat plays a big role in my time but it appears that shoes do, too. Good lesson to learn.
Next weekend, I'm not on-call (work), meaning I can roam further away from home (pager only goes off in emergencies where I have to go in and I'm supposed to be able to leave fairly quickly). I'm going to try a new trail that I think is about 9K long (guestimate). I'm looking forward to trying a new pathway.0 -

Nope, seeing consultants on Tuesday but after Friday, I know I am fine if I am up and about a little bit before going out. Thanks for the thoughts, I am a little depressed with not being up to jump out of a seat and be ready to go. I think the real lows 85/60 sys/dia blood pressure have disappeared although the symptoms still exist.
Congrats on getting back to your normal times, the environmentals are always hard to factor into performance, whether it is heat, wind or elevation. Luckily heat is not a huge problem in the UK although I am a morning runner normally just after sunrise, when everything is nice and fresh.
Hope all goes well this week and you can enjoy your new trail next weekend. Have fun.0 -
Well this morning I did my 11 mile run. I kept telling myself, that if I didn't finish it, then I would have to do it again. That was a big motivation for me. I'm now wondering if signing up for a half marathon was a good idea at all.
Again, as last Sunday, I set out later than I wanted. Last week was me being lazy, but this week was different. This morning I had some intestinal cramps. Very light. Not a big deal at all normally, but there is no way that I want to risk diarrhea or even loose stools while on a long run. I ate some breakfast and waited them out until I felt a bit better. Luckily that happened and after a few hours I was ready to go on my run.
Today was supposed to be sunny, but again luckily it was actually partly cloudy, and got a bit cloudier as the morning progressed and the temps rose. So no continual bright sun like last week. Also, because of last week, I made a point of resting for 15 minutes while I was halfway through the run. I rested under the shade of a tree before I started back. I still had to remind myself that I had to do an 11 mile run and a 12 mile run before my half marathon, according to my training plan. So unless I finished this run successfully, I would have to repeat it. That helped me keep going.
The plan actually called for a 10k race this weekend, followed by 11 miles next weekend and 12 miles on Labor Day weekend. The thing is, on Labor Day weekend I'm going to have a difficult time getting a long run in until Monday and I really don't want to run 12 miles on the Monday before my Saturday half marathon. I'm hoping that doing 11 this weekend, 12 next weekend, and the 10k on Labor Day Monday, will work out okay. With multiple three and four mile runs during the weeks of course. The plan says two 3 mile runs and one 5 mile run each week, but I'm happier with four 3 or 4 mile runs during the week and my fitness classes as well, of course.
Although the run did go well, I'm feeling less confident about the half marathon itself.0 -
Given that you have done 11 miles I am sure the half will be fine. Iam surprised though that you are doing a long run 7 days out from the half, most plans I have seen half the last long run 2 weeks out. They then ramp it down to ensure that you are fresh. However given that I am not even at 10k yet,I could easily be wrong.
I am still in awe of people running near half marathon lengths, I walked 10k yesterday afternoon after doing the 8k run session in the morning and I was glad to sit down at the end. I hope the remaining of your training goes well.0 -
Donna, you sound like you are well prepared and I am sure you will have no problem with your HM.
Robbie, I hope you get your dizziness/blood pressure sorted out.
I ran 12k yesterday, I had had a hard workout the day before and my legs were tired and heavy. The first few km I felt like I was shuffling not running! Things picked up in the last 5k and I finished with negative splits. I had a thought that I would like to enter a HM, but I don't want to train for one, lol! My training plan has me running 10 mile long runs so I might look for one after my 10k race and just wing it, I'm not looking to be competitive just to finish.0 -
I put a lot of pavement behind me over the weekend!
Friday afternoon- 2.66 miles mostly walking with girl from work
Saturday- 21.37 mile bike ride (kick-off ride for the ADA Tour de Cure)
Sunday AM- 3.48 mile run solo around my neighborhood (10:24 pace for the 2.56 miles I ran)
Sunday PM- 3.74 miles mostly walking with my niece
Monday AM- 5.33 miles (10:46 pace for the 4.64 miles I ran)
I could have run longer this morning, but was running out of time!0 -
Romyhorse, thanks for the thoughts, it comes and goes, consultant tomorrow, so may get some better understanding of underlying causes. Well done on the 12k especially persevering with heavy legs. If you can do 10 miles you can complete a HM, it depends on whether you just want to complete it really. I am sure that you will succeed if you want to do it.
Ceci, that was a lot of being out and about over the weekend. Truly inspiring especially since I got 953 steps for the whole of Saturday.
Well done0 -
Off topic, but in for the roll...
Here's a Blog I follow, a local teacher who runs. He's a great guy, always encouraging people to run.

Just got back from seeing the doctor. She gave me the OK to run again starting tomorrow. Slow at first, no hills, no speedwork. She said my left leg is longer, causing some SI-joint misalignment and affecting my hamstring & calves making them very tight. That eventually led to an angry achilles tendon. No major tendonitis in the tendon. She really got in there and loosened things up and realigned my SI joint. I'll probably be in pain tomorrow after today's session but at least I can run tomorrow. Going back to see the DR on Thursday.0

bt - I'm like robbie and surprised your program has you doing so many long runs so close to HM. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Switching to the 10k closest to the HM sounds good, just don't race too hard.
Robbie, good luck with your consultant today/tomorrow!
Sounds like a good weekend Ceci!
LS Nope, best moderator ever!
Glad to hear the good news Tim
I did my mudd run on Sunday and an easy 4km last night as a recovery run.
Mudd run was great fun, 8-9km in about 80 minutes, just cruising along with a friend. I conquered all obstacles but I'm a bit sore from it. Definitely need to get off my backside and back into my strength training. New avatar pic is from the Saturday when I was doing the volunteer on course.
Last nights run I managed to miss the rain, and just keep the legs ticking over. Got my long run tonight so hopefully the weather holds out!0 -
Well done on the Mudd run, so you got to volunteer and run the course. That was not in for list of things to do!! Fantastic effort. I had to double take your comments and avatar because it looked like someone messing about at a party, until I reread your comments. You are truly inspirational, keep it going.
Being here makes me realise how much of a slacker I am. And yes I know how I am lapping everyone on the couch but am still being lapped by you awesome guys and girls. Thanks for the online motivation.0 -
So W10D3 done. And done at a slower pace than I would normally go. Reading the training you guys do, made me realise that I have been doing too much huffing and puffing. In reality, when I have a look at McMillan pacing guides, I have been doing every c210k session at a tempo run/ tempo interval pace. Well today I slowed down a bit and it felt easier and certainly less tiring. However over 45 mins of running, I only went 400m less. I probably need to slow down still further as I was still in the steady state pace range, rather than the easy/ long run paces. Without trying you have all helped me reassess how fast I was going. Here's to making this a bit more sustainable as I was beginning to carry over tiredness in my legs and having annoying niggles at the start of sessions.
Many thanks and good luck with your training0 -
It took me a while to realise that it was better to run slower, I was always trying to run faster than my last run. Now my easy run pace is a lot faster than it used to be but I am not exerting myself as much as I used to. My speed has increased gradually but I am still very slow compared to a lot of people, it is all relative.0

I think that figuring out that slower can be better is one of the hardest things to get. It has helped me to run with less experienced runners like my friends at work and my niece. I see how much progress I've made in 16 months knowing that I started out where they are now.
After work yesterday, Cass wanted to run. I had already run almost 5 miles earlier in the day, but I ran anyway. We made it almost 2 1/2 miles before we ran out of time. She has only been running a few months. Our pace was around 12:30.
It appears that I need to figure out how to have more hours in the day for running. My last two runs were cut short by time constraints. Hate it when life gets in the way of my running (and riding!) :laugh:0
