Assuming I counted correctly that is a personal best which is fantastic but probably not too wise as I'm supposed to be tapering down for a fast 5 km this weekend.
Eliminated most of the rests in today's swim which is probably where the time was gained!

    LOL! Same here!
I got Ms J's workout in. I reluctantly went to the pool. Just wasn't feeling it. Then went on to have a pretty good workout.
Isn't it strange how that always happens
3000 y in 80 min at 6:30 a.m. I have to add that last part because it's a great personal accomplishment for me to get to the pool at that hour.
Early morning wake ups are an accomplishment! Good job! :star:

2km crawl this morning and some breast stroke cool down. I have noticed a drop in my speed recently (2km takes 44 mins instead of 40 previously). Its probably one of two things - changing from a 20m to a 25m pool means fewer spurts of speed at the wall and having not swam properly for about 6 weeks after my sternum injury has reduced my fitness a bit. Should get that back soonish I
With me I find the opposite. I'm faster in the 33 m pool then I am in the 25m, probably because fewer opportunities for mini rests as there are fewer lengths to swim.
With a 50m pool though, I noticed drop in time, and hope the same thing doesn't happen this weekend when I'll be in an Olympic size 50m pool!
Great swims, people! Welcome back, Gutzy!
I got about 20 min or so in before class. Best part was that I told my 12 year old that she needs to come and swim with me at least 2x a week now that XC season is over and she is doing a lot of sitting. She came and swam and she really enjoyed it :)
You've got a new swimming partner now! Great!

How you are able to dip such big chunks of time is beyond me! Great job!

4 Mile wake up call. 3 days in a row. Yahoo! Rolling on with the trip recovery.
If the weather is crap on Saturday I'm thinking I'll do either 5 miles(176 laps) or push it to a full 10K(219).
Ease into it Gutzy. We don't want you damaging those shoulders unnecessarily

If I did it in 1:50, I'd be very happy. It would be a 21 min improvement on my time from 2 years ago!
But the 50m Olympic sized pool I'll be in, can do strange things to my times!

Boiler in the pools utility room self destructed last night so no heat in the building, no showers, no sauna, no hot tub and the water temp is dropping in the pool. So our local pool is temporarily closed.
Weather report - Freezing rain and wind gusts 40 to 60 km/hr. So no running on the Trails and travel not recommended.

Last January the pool heater shut down on a Sunday night. had to be manually restarted.
Pool temp was a wonderful 73 degrees. Took a couple more laps to warm up. But it was awesome for laps swimmers like me.

One time I was swimming and the lead guard noticed the water level dropping. Someone had left a valve set wrong after back-flushing and the pool was being drained. He closed it and then added several thousand gallons of city water. I noticed the temperature drop considerably. I was towards the end of my workout and it was wonderful.

Back from vacation and back in the pool! I fell asleep for "just a few more minutes" so I was late but still got about 40 minutes in. Pool was nearly empty and a nice 82 degrees. 400 free, 100 kick, 100 pull, 50 kick/100 swim each for backstroke and breaststroke and closed it down with 500 free.

2650y in 61 minutes two nights in a row. Trying to get 3000 in the hour that I have for evening swim but I've apparently hit a limit that will take a different approach to overcome. Ideas are welcome!

Hey nuffer I'd recommend some speed work as it will improve your general pace. I'm currently writing programmes for a police officer who has been plodding (no pun intended) for ages with little progress. Have been giving him sessions for two weeks and he's already improved a lot. His goal is to swim 1km in 20 minutes but I reckon we'll get him faster than that

2700 in ~72 minutes. Loving the water these days-- and they've put a Christmas tree in by the judging platform that is used for swim meets. So THAT's a cheery addition while I'm kicking away for my kickboard set!

Last day of Lessons. Started with a 10 minute all out swim. 19 lengths = 475m (4/9). The fastest person had 26 lengths. Then the fun started.
    4x50 FR on 1:00/15s rest
4x50 Back on 1:45 ( my weakest stroke )/15s rest
    4x50 Breast on 1:30/15s rest
    1x50 Easy
    4x50 FR descending stroke count
    4x50 Breast descending stroke count
Play time. Dive Entries to dolphin kicks and Flip Turns.
Crazy Fun day that went to fast.
Most of us had never done dive entries as during normal lane swim it is forbidden due to an incident a few years ago at another pool where a person came out of the steam room ran the 4 steps to the pool and dove in to cool off - Head to Head underwater collision with the person who was already in the lane. Double spinal compression injuries. Fortunately they had 3 Life Guards in Rotation so they were both rescued and no paralysis.

@nuffer I agree with @emmab0902 - adding some speed work has helped me increase my pace and improve my stroke - takes longer to start dedrading - I still have a long way to go to get out of the plodders but at least I am no longer in the crawlers. When I started swimming the zoomers would pass me about every 3rd length, now that is stretched out to 5 on crawl and 6 on breast. Next Lessons early January.
@fishgutzy Just 4 miles ? - Still 3 miles further than anything I have done.

I'm giving him sessions around 1300m with about 500m worth of faster swimming in it. For example 20X25 on 60 or yesterday was 10X50 on 2.00. I'm keeping records of his sessions and times so am happy to share if anyone is interested

Nice. I should try that breathing technique set, although not at that pace. I am terrible at breathing on my left side.

Wouldn't recommend it. There isn't much evidence that limiting breathing has any benefit other than stroke correction. It doesn't help much with fitness. I ended up with a bad headache a few hours later probably too much CO2 in the blood!

A nice rainy day at the pool with cool temps in the 40s (F). Started with some speed work and got my PR for 100y down by 30 (thirty) seconds. Was also going to try for two miles by calf/foot cramps put an end to my session and had to stop at 3250 yards in 78 minutes.

3000m just under an hour pool time.

    8 x 50 W/Up  2 x fr, 2 x fr pull, 2 x fr kick, 2 choice swim (15)

3 x 200 fr neg splits by 100.  30 rest after first 15 rest after second

    6 x 50 fob/fof x 50 (20)

    2 x 400 fr split as  4 x 100   10 sr rest after each 100 ..aim for under 1.25 per 100 60 rest after each lot of 4 x 100

4 x 75 br concentrate ok relaxed stroke and glide  (20)

    1 x 300 choice warm down

As an IT worker, I should have been suspicious. My Garmin Swim watch did not accurately record my last laps trying to deal with leg cramps and mis-reported my time. That said, I did make an improvement, but not nearly that dramatic.

Today I did not swim, did some very brisk walk/jogging instead for five miles.

Yep - About 50 minutes of mixed sets, including back stroke and breast stroke. I am going to a USMS stroke clinic at the end of January and while I plan to ignore butterfly, I figure I should be practicing those two enough so I can get some advice on them. I swim freestyle all the time.

Yes, exactly, I would use it for stroke correction. I can feel it deteriorating after very long distances and I can just feel an imbalance. I am assuming if I breathed every 3 on a long distance this wouldn't happen as much. A drill breathing every 5 and 7 helps you focus, but it would be tough if you have to add in speed as well (ie holding a 1:30 pace for a longish set)

The pools control system has been erratic since the boiler failure last week. Very hot today. After 10 laps I had to slow down as I was just to hot. Dropped into a long slow Breast Stroke. 1000m 250 Fr/500 br/250 Fr.

I'd almost have the water too cold than 200 hot. Swimming in hot water makes me feel like a boiling frog!

Yes, heated outdoor pool at a neighborhood/private club. A couple of high schools and a youth swim club use it all winter long, and lap swim is offered three times daily during the week and once a day on weekends.
