I know why i'm not losing.I'm eating back to many of the calories from exercising.I'm also snacking to much .I have got to refocus.
    Gayle,Nancy-great job on the loss!
Charlie-I'd rather stay the same than gain.Good job on not having a gain.My goal is 140 and I can't seem to get out of the 160's.It's frustrating but I can see what i'm doing wrong.Let's make it our goal to break that barrier this week.

Well, Charlie, thinking we are shooting for the stars and the moon would be fine. Or maybe even France, or California. How's that for a totally silly analogy? I like Mary's statement about "breaking the barrier". I so want to get out the 180's, that would be my big breakthrough. But I will take no gain and any loss along the way as little wins. Wish it were simple but life events (stress and emotions) and unexpected food temptations (meals out other food related meetings with others) happen. It is the bumpy road that we are all walking each other home on.

Nancy, thanks for the tip about Leslie Saeta. I did friend her and think I will benefit from her perspective. I've been reading the Carol Marine's Daily Painting http://www.amazon.com/Daily-Painting-Creative-Productive-Successful/dp/0770435335/ref=pd_sim_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=04C55E2XW0ANFX17EG3X
and that is helping as well.

Charlie, look at the forums for people trying to manage the kidney numbers. I'm no doctor but makes sense that a bit less protein with water kept the same might help. I wonder if vegetable based protein is less harsh as well. So great that your RA is in remission!

Boy, I go out one day and look at all I missed.

Gayle, you are so close to the next breakthrough! Go, Gayle, go!

Charlie, good news and bad news. Drugs do have a lot of downside but they help our bodies so much when things go wrong. I don't know much about kidneys but from what I know, you seem to be on the right track with less protein. And the closer to goal the harder it is to lose. I know, been there. Chair exercise! I miss leading that class the most! No one ever believes how hard it is. But with exercise, mediation, diet and taking care of yourself, you are leading the way and I know the downward trend will continue, however slowly.

I am getting discouraged. It is too hard. However, I was thinking today that I have lost 13 lbs this year and 38lb total since I got serious. 13lbs isn't much in a year but it is far, far better than where I was before. And I obviously know how to maintain that loss!

Mary, you and me, we just keep walking hand in hand. I know what I am doing wrong too! -10F here and I just cannot get into it. I want to eat comfort foods and hibernate and I am obviously not paying close enough attention nor exercising even close to enough. I seem always to have something hurting. And who wants to go out there, anyway.

Nancy, wonderful straight line progress down! You and Gayle, just keep on trucking.

7 weeks. Hummm.... should be at least 7 lbs and maybe more.

Marney: I love this quote: "Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Choose your hard!"

I have to think about that when I start to get discouraged. I am really being strict, strict, strict right now. But, it seems to help with the cravings. They go away once I get on track.

As for you weight loss to date, you have lost 38 pounds! That is 20% of your body weight. 10% is a big goal to health and fitness, so you are far ahead of the game!

I do have one advantage though. I have never been a snacker. When I left home and got married, I quit doing it. (At home we always had a bedtime snack). Like last night I had a bag of popcorn, but I had actually popped it for lunch and didn't eat it so I took it home. Was more dessert because I ate it right after dinner.

Thanks for the boost Charlie. Yeah, choose your hard. I know that I tend to lose in the summer months and maintain in the winter. Better than before which was gain in the winter and maintain in the summer. You have reminded me that this is about health.

    New day. New resolve.

Yes, don't quite 'get' my body. I have been gaining and losing the same 4 lbs since the end of November. Up again yesterday morning. Yesterday, I just ignored logging, ignored planning etc and what happens? I have lost two of the 'old' pounds and one 'new' pound.

Maybe if I don't plan and just make the best choice in front of me at the time???? I doubt that is the answer. More exercise will get it off, I know.

But, YES!!!!! I lose a 'new' pound!!!

Remember, Marney, that in the end, exercise is for fitness and calorie deficit is for weight loss.

Even with as much as I work out, I have a difficult time maintaining a 500 calorie a day deficit just for a one pound a week loss. Assume that we have some food logging discrepancies and we lose nothing. If I workout hard about 60 minutes at the gym, eat just 1200 calories, but sit and read the rest of the day, I can actually have a very small deficit. Not enough for weight loss with water retention or a little treat once a week. The real key is to keep moving throughout the day. I would never lose a pound if I ate back my exercise calories. We are all different, but the majority of pounds lost will come from less food.

yeah. Thanks for that. You are right. I just have to get more strict about weighing and measuring. I do go back and check often, but not often enough. Sitting is a problem with retirement, a small house (1200 ft in winter) all on one level and -32C out there tomorrow! I do sit/stand a lot when I sew since most of my sewing is done on my feet. I am conscious of the amount of sitting because it is an easy habit to fall into.

Eating back exercise calories I have to watch. I do it too often.

Thanks for the reminder! I am re-committed, again.

I like that quote Charlie! I choose the dieting "hard" because it is even harder to be fat and just getting fatter. Dieting takes effort but makes me feel like I'm doing something positive for myself and that is a great feeling. Marney, that's what I've lost. 38 pounds! I figure I have 20 more to go.

I'm still up in the air for a goal. I said 36 more pounds, but might change that to only 20 - 25 more since it is better to weigh more after the age of 60.

Marney, I know what you mean about it being hard to move enough. It is a struggle for me on my days off and, although I work out on the track, have problems with reaching 10,000 steps on those days. Besides, it is nice to just sit and read occasionally, but it kills my weight loss. Wish I liked to shop. Those women can go all day! I hate it.

Brrrrr. We only got to -20 wind chill today, but I had to walk out in it to the main building.

    Got a long weekend! Yea!

enjoy your day off Charlie. It is a long weekend here too. A holiday established only a few years ago. (Doesn't make too much difference to us though). There are more people on our road here for the weekend. Neighbours! We do miss them by this time of year.
