Hi Guys, didn't help to wait a day, I'm up this week. More walking, more diligence this next week is on the agenda!.0 -
Let me reaffirm my goal: want to be at 164 on July 3rd. That gives me 9 weeks to lose 10.7 pounds. I've got this!0
-
Hi Guys. Doing a low carb day today, and also spent a lot of time in the dentist's chair. Finally found a dentist and dental office that I really like but this is going to cost me a fortune. I've been grinding my teeth and most of my filling are cracked and need to be replaced. Yikes! Well, at least I will be more slender and broke, right?0
-
Day 1,again.I gained back the 2 lbs i lost last week plus .5.I think my new goal is to lose the weight i gained and try to get to my lowest weight of 157.5.Really need to get back to exercising everyday.I did get some in today.I'm going to do a 5K in a couple of weeks so I need to get ready for that.I've really gotten lazy on what I need to do.As long as I've been doing this you would think I would stay on track.0
-
Mary, don't beat yourself up! A 5K, that is really amazing! My knees would never stand for it, glad you are in good shape. Good goals but please include: do a 5K, that is no little deal! Here is what you could copy/paste for the challenge:
Mary
Challenge Goal: 157.6
April 3rd-157.5
April 10th-164.5
April 17th-161.5
April 24th-166
May 2nd-164.0
May 8th-
Also get back to exercising daily and do a 5K.
Mary, I've really been having a challenge lately but there are still 8 weeks and few days left before the challenge is done. I'm still shooting for 164 on July 3rd! I think it makes a big difference to be clear about goals and keep them in mind as well.0 -
Gayle, thanks for the encouraging words. You helped me refocus. You're right,8 weeks left.We each have around 10 left to reach this goal.We can do this !!

@maryschwartzroby, A 5K! What a great challenge! You will do it! No sweat! (Well, maybe a little sweat. Sweating is good for you. )
@gaylebodine, We are up and down. That's normal. As long as the graph shows down more than up! I realized last night that I still owe you a call. I have been getting home later and later. Yesterday I worked at the polls. Had to be there at 5:30 a.m. and left at 8:45 p.m. Since we only get a one-hour break for lunch, I then was starving. Didn't get home until 10 p.m. Not even time for any cardio.
Are you still walking? Don't forget that when you up your exercise, your body will retain more water to heal itself. Sometimes quite a lot.
Me: I'm enjoying the warm weather. Sunday and Monday I couldn't get enough! Walking. Even practiced Tai Chi in the park. One early morning I did it on the dock of the park's little lake with a lot of those Canada feathered rats looking pretty swimming along. Had I mentioned that I bought a bathing suit, too, so I water jogged at the gym's pool two days!0 -
We have a challenge going at work. Each agency can form a team of at least 5 people. There are 3 of us who are always very serious about working out. Anyway, you get 50 points for 30 minutes of cardio in a day and 50 points for doing 30 minutes of something relaxing during the day (can't be the same thing, but can be cardio if you want). The challenge lasts for 6 weeks and if the team "averages" 3000 points, then we each get a $25 gift card. The problem is, we are in the third day and a total of 7 people have joined from my agency. 2 already have done nothing yet! That brings our average down. May have to start pushing. I can be very competitive where $$$ is concerned!
The funny thing is that Mr. Fitness of the group, who always brags about working out, hasn't done anything yet. He also chose a muscle man as his avatar. (I chose an elephant in a tutu and the rest also chose silly things.) He likes to talk about working out more than actually doing it, I think.0 -
Wouldn't it be great if buying exercise equipment (and tapes, etc.) and talking about exercise worked as well as actually doing it? LOL. If only. It is a rainy week here so I've been slacking a bit but did do a protein fast (mostly hard boiled eggs and chicken breast) yesterday and now am at a new low today. Today I got a bunch of periodontal work done and not up to do much. Supposed to be cool and rainy through Sunday. Next week I will get back to observing the "Canada feathered rats" at the lake. They have goslings now. Cute!0
-
Oh, don't worry about calling me this week. I'm slacking this week anyway. I may have to breakdown and seriously read the directions.0
-
So cool about Tai Chi in the park and your other activities! You are my hero!0

Challenge Goal: 140
4/3/15: 152
4/10/15: 151
4/17/15 150
4/24/15: 149
5/1/15: 150
5/8/15: 150
Low recorded weight: 147
Up and down, but in the end, today was the same as last week. I have really been working out a lot, too, with the improved weather. Keeping my calories down, etc. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. But, July 4th is coming soon and I will have a week vacation between then and now. At least it should be an active vacation, but I am never as good on vacation either.
At least Mother's Day will not be about food this year. My daughter, DIL, granddaughter, and I are instead going to see a stage production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast by the local Childrens' Theater Company. That is what I asked for.
@gaylebodine: Are Canada Geese as much of a problem there as here? They really are a scourge here. They never leave. Are here year around. There will be hundreds of them grazing in one place. Every pond has them, golf courses, and most mud puddles, too. They slowly waddle in mass across major roadways. In the parks they make a huge mess and are aggressive (especially this time of year). Whole businesses have been developed to repell geese from your property. I had always looked at Canada as our friends, but when I was in Québec City last summer on vacation for a whole week, I didn't see one Canada goose. I think that the Canadians have a very passive aggression against the U.S. Some countries send spys. Some terrorists. Some ninjas. Canada has sent their geese!

Finally headed in the right direction! Supposed to snow on Sunday, then back to the warmer, sunnier weather, hopefully, and back to walking.

Hi Charlie, lol about Canadians sending the geese. I'll take them over the Mexican kissing bug or those Burmese snakes that have invaded Florida. But they are everywhere. Seem a little confused this year too. There is a goose nesting in a Walmart planter (no water close) and helped a family with 5 goslings (again, not near water) to avoid a busy highway, about a mile from the last confused goose. That green poo everywhere is really something. Invasive species are really a problem but in the US it's all one big melting pot anyway. Recent news about an invasion of 40,000 goldfish in a Colorado lake, apparently all came from someone dumping a goldfish bowl.0
-
Charlie, July 4th is still 8 weeks away, so hang in there! I still have 7.4 to lose for my challenge this round, might just make it. Doing one fast day a week (around 600 calories) and think that gives me what I need. Add some dummy calories to snacks so mfp doesn't freak out.0

Charlie-at least we didn't have a gain this week. That's a plus.I would like to lose a lb this week so that's my goal.
Gayle-congratulations on your loss. You are doing so good.
Mothers day-my children are taking me out for lunch. We'll see how that goes.0 -
Good for you for not gaining Mary! And son is taking me out to brunch on Saturday for Mother's Day and I would like to get something celebratory to eat. A waffle would be nice. Then I will have to be extra good next week.0
-
Both of you have a Happy Mother's Day! I love going out for lunch/brunch! Seems more decandent than dinner for some reason. More special!
Would be nice if Marney and Nancy popped in to wish them a HMD, too. It has been over a month since we heard from Marney and 20 days now for Nancy.
Gayle, your loss was great and I agree with you, Mary, that at least we didn't gain. I'm with you on a one pound loss for next week! We can do this!0 -
Happy Mother's Day tomorrow! I hope you ladies have a great day.Just remember we have to get back on here and make ourselves accountable so lets behave ourselves. It's all about spending our time with our loved ones and not about the food.0
-
Mary, well said! I did splurge though--and had a fancy (egg white) omelette plus a belgium waffle (with sugar free syrup). Will have to eat a very small dinner, and actually I like spaghetti squash so that's a win all around. Charlie, thanks for the Mother's Day wishes and Happy Mother's Day to you both too. If Marney and Nancy pop in--we miss you and have a special weekend!0
-
How is everyone doing? I'm see-sawing a bit but hope for a good scale on Friday. At a workshop all weekend with catered meals. Hmmmm, going to be interesting.0
-
Currently up a pound from last week's weigh in but continuing to move forward. Hope everyone is doing well!0
-
Had a great Mother's Day and broke my plateau. Hit 146 on MD and 145.5 the next. 75 days I had tried to get back to 147 let alone below! But, as I am the Queen of Fluctuations, I was at 146.5 today!
I did a Zumba class today at lunch. Thought I would die. The instructor and most of the participants are young. Also hard to jump in when I haven't been taking it to learn the moves. But, it was fun and I will probably do it again on some days when I can't get outside at lunchtime. Almost too strenuous though. I don't like my HR to get that high. It was really pounding. Also, there is no way to shower afterward. I did at least bring a change of clothes to workout in.
Drumroll please: I did strength training this a.m., too! I bought a set of 3 lbs. dumbbells at Play It Again Sports. Saved about 50% that way. I did 11 upper body exercises. It wasn't too bad, but I don't like the ones geared to the shoulders. Probably why I have very small, sloped shoulders! Some were 2 sets of 10 reps. Some only one. I found a routine on line I used. I adjusted it some as I can't lay on my back because of positional vertigo. I don't count calorie burn with strength training as I don't do it long enough to get much of a HR increase.0 -
Fantastic Charlie! Love your before and after pictures--you look like a different person! You continue to inspire!0
-
Have been going through the dreaded "letting your bangs grow out" phase. Not so bad now as they have gotten longer.0
-
I think your current hairstyle is just perfect for you! I am due a cut.
Have to admit I'm struggling, but know it is just a tough week and will just keep on moving forward. Scale up today and way over with my calories today. So tired and just feel like comforting myself. Two hurdles will be over tomorrow--my son graduating from high school and completing my final grading for my Redstone term. In a workshop Friday/Saturday/Sunday and bringing my lunch but know I will have less control of what I eat and when. Back on the straight and narrow next Monday and hope I can still feel good about this challenge when all is said and done. Keep me in your thoughts.0 -
Challenge Goal: 140
4/3/15: 152
4/10/15: 151
4/17/15 150
4/24/15: 149
5/1/15: 150
5/8/15: 150
5/15/15: 145.5
So, my new low is 145.5! Wonder how long it will be before I lose again. Maybe 140 by Independence Day is still doable.
Need to do those weights today! No matter what. I will do them twice a week. I will...Really! I definitely need to get in some lunchtime cardio, too. Dinner out with a friend tonight. Dinner and theater after work tomorrow. So, no working out in the evening!
I need to start thinking about a vacation in a cabin for a week menu, too. Did okay last year, so it can be done. I'll have to go back to those diaries. See what we had. Leave three week from tomorrow!
Hope everyone else had a good week! Would be nice to hear from Marney and Nancy. It's now been 2 months since Marney even visited MFP. 26 days for Nancy.
Well, a busy day today, so gotta run!0
