It's time to reform gov't.
but lobbying laws will
not distribution of wealth just a fair tax system.
I dream of a flat tax in my lifetime. A boy can dream, right? :laugh:0 -
I spent a week looking for a job, almost every place I applied called me. I am a highschool drop out, with a criminal record and have yet to have a hard time finding a job.
If you're serious, maybe my son needs to move to Texas. He's been unemployed for months and is practically begging empoyers to hire him. I know there are jobs out there and he keeps applying but nobody will hire him. :grumble: Do you have any advice for him?
Btw, I'm not being sarcastic. I just don't know what the kid needs to do to get somebody to hire him. It's very frustrating for both of us.0 -

There has to be an issue with him not getting hired if he is looking and constantly being turned down. How is his resume'? Mannerisms when he interviews? Facebook? I think one of those things tend to be an issue with people who cannot find work. Maybe their resume is sloppy or worded badly or has something that turns employers off... I have seen a ton of people on facebook complaining about not getting jobs but they don't follow up, they have offensive things on PUBLIC facebook walls, they don't act professional and use slang terms contantly and just don't portray the appearance on someone that wants to and will be a good worker. Those kind of people may be applying for many jobs but step two is all about how you present yourself.0 -

A lot of companies have been moving down to Texas for tax purposes, and despite the hard times, businesses are still opening there. Seems to be a state doing a tad better than the others.0 -

I sure hope you're not assuming that a) this poster was only offered a job at a strip club or that b) because of what she told you about her background, she could only be hired doing something you deem not worthy of respect?0 -

Nebraska is like this too. We have relatively low costs of living etc, and the jobs seem to be available. Hell my work is in overtime all the time!0 -

Yeah, I'm waiting to hear the explantion on this one. Fearnloathing's reply was far more respectable than what mine would have been.0 -

For 5 pages I talk about professionals, retirees, students, etc at OWS and you people keep spouting off about unwashed and unemployed. I talk about 14 million people without jobs, the number of resumes I got for a 10 hour filing position, and the number of jobs available in 2 different cities in 2 different careers and you people harp on more about unwashed and unemployed. We talk about Iraq vets with head trauma, old ladies and old men being beaten and pepper sprayed and you rant about unwashed and unemployed. But I say the word "stripper" (and yes, you are pretty enough to be one. I actually looked at your profile and that's where that part came from since you said you liked them.) and THAT'S the ONLY thing any of you are actually able to discuss. You may or may not watch Fox "news" but you sure sound like their lemmings.0

Really and like I said I applied many many places with a shady background and got offers from almost everyone. Part of the problem is because people feel they shouldnt HAVE to take a job that is beneath them which was pointed out in an earlier video posting.I have seen none of these people at my local occupy movement. And yeah it pisses me off that they are just causing more problems.Tell me what they are changing, tell me what they are doing that is any good? Are they opening anyones eyes? only to the rape, theft, and violence that is going on at EVERY SINGLE occupy site.I guess retirees and "professionals" have a whole lot of new hobbies for thier down time. These people are doing NO GOOD they are changing NOTHING. If they really cared so much for they poor they would be feeding the homeless that are coming to the camp sites not chasing them away.I cant get behind hypocrisy sorry.
Oh and on to the jobs CA is one of the worst hit states in todays econmy,my brother got out of prsion a MONTH ago already has a job in phone sales if he can find one I truly belive anyone can. He is a multiple freaking felon and he got a job, a decent job not stripping. I have way more respect for strippers than I do these protesters because they are strong enough to do what they have to insted of being a bunch of whiners who do NOTHING. And yeah I keep mentioning the fact that these people need a bath because its true ive had the lovley pleasure of being around the occupy Dallas crowds a few times now and they stink so this is all personal experiance im spouting off on.0 -
Nope not strip clubs, lets see Family Dollar Store manager,Dollar General assistant store manager, Wal Mart & Target both for supervising postions Ross,Dillards, the list goes on
And what is not respectable about striping? I would do it if I didnt have to left feet. So sitt5ing in a park doing nothing but being a lazy *kitten* loser is respectable? Atleast the strippers are doing something and bathing0 -

Well lets see I was convicted for forgery second degree burglery reciving stolen property and commerical burglery,14 years ago I put it on every single application and have worked for Dillards before when I lived in amarillo . Ive also worked for Family Dollar before and wal mart 3 sepretate stores. Ive no reason to "make up" the job offers ive gotten. The point is when I was looking for work almost every place I put in an app called me.0 -
Also if I was able to go back to work again tommorow,I would have a job by next week two at the most. I have absolutly no doubt about that.
I also volunteer at a food bank,we get people that call us to let othe people we help with food know about jobs ....funny no one ever wants to take them. All decent respectable jobs.0 -
Again, so there are 14 million open, unfilled, job vacancies out there? Where??? People aren't just wanting things in their field. 30 million people, roughly 19% of those who do have jobs are considered under-employed. I had 2 people with doctorates want to work for me as a 10 hour/week file clerk FFS! I've had pizza delivered by an MIT graduate. A former neighbor of mine used to make 6 figures as an engineer with one of the Big 3 auto companies. He now manages a department at a store similar to WalMart and that's only because he worked his way up from stock boy.
Our morning news shows job openings in the area. Today there were 3. A financial analyst, another professional job, and Hardee's is having a job fair. I'm not out in the boonies either. I live near Richmond, VA which has a nationally decent unemployment rate of 6%. With a population of about 1,200,000 that means there are approximately 72,000 people in this area who are unemployed. The Hardee's job fair is supposed to have about 100 openings. 72,000 people and 100 jobs available. And you want people to believe that a high school drop out with felony convictions could waltz on in and beat out those other 71,999 people?
Maybe the fact that you are pretty is opening some doors for you. I don't know. I do know that as a business owner if I had a choice between a high school drop out/convicted felon and an MIT graduate/engineer with a clean record it wouldn't even be a contest. I'd look at your resume, see those 2 things, and move to the next candidate. I find it more than a little weird and unlikely that major corporations supposedly aren't doing the same.0 -

Maybe its the differnce in the states we live in for one, also my employment history speaks for itself I have tons and tons of retail experiance that all started with a not so "respectable" job as a cashier in an adult bookstore to which I worked myself up to manager.Since then I have held many supervisor postions at more mainstream companys. I was a store manger for family dollar a team lead at Hastings. I went to hastings to apply for a cashier job because I only wanted part time and THEY talked me into a lead postion that I wasnt even applying for. I dont know what to tell you but ive got no reason to make this up on an forum believe it or not makes no differance to me. And like I said before how many of those out of work are actually making an effort to get a job. As cynical as this makes me sound since ive started volunteering at various food banks and such 99% of the people that come in do not even want to hear about jobs, and refuse to take anything that might lessan their government assistance.I can not tell you how many times I would be at job fairs when I worked for Hastings or Family Dollar and had many people turn up their noses at us because "retail was beneath them" How many times I have heard crap like with my college degrees I shouldnt HAVE to work retail.Especially when they find out that just because they have a degree does not mean they will get hired on as freaking manager.
also my criminal record wich is out of CA stopped showing up when I moved to TX,even though I do put it on apps except the ones that say in the past 7 years because it was longer ago than that0 -
Huh, that's weird. When I worked for Dillard's back in college they didn't hire people with a criminal record no matter how minor the charge. I happened to be out and about earlier today and stopped into the store. I asked if they were hiring for Christmas help. She said they weren't but said she'd take my application. I then asked if it would matter if I had a criminal record. She asked what I was convicted of. Since you didn't say I decided to go really low and said I had a possession charge from back when I was in college in the early '90s. She said "Oh, well thank you for being honest but our policy is to not hire anyone with a criminal record." (Not really sure why she asked the crime since it wouldn't matter. Just nosey I guess. ) Walmart and Target will hire people with a criminal record as long as it wasn't a felony within the past 7 years. I couldn't find anything about Ross or the dollar stores yet.
You walked into Dillard's HR Department yesterday, asked for an application, was told they weren't hiring, and were told that they have a policy against hiring people with a criminal record, and then she asked you what your criminal record was???? Huh, that's weird. When I worked in HR, we would never have had such a discussion with someone walking in off the street for an application. Highly inappropriate discussion. I appreciate your taking the time to investigate this, and you've inspired me to make some calls and go speak to HR reps myself.0 -
I was like awwwww yeah that must mean I'm hot enough to be a stripper
ETA: Many applications I've filled out in my time have had a box saying "Answering 'yes' to a felony charge does not necessarily bar you from employment." That's because ex-felons are in a special category of employees that companies can get a tax credit for. http://www.doleta.gov/business/incentives/opptax/0 -
The very definition (official government definition) of "unemployed" means not only are they not working but they are actively looking for work. In an effort to try to make it look like unemployment numbers were decreasing a few years ago the government removed everyone who decided to retire early, stay home with the kids, go back to school full time, etc from the official unemployment statistics. That means that supposed 99% of people you claim didn't even want to hear about a job weren't really unemployed. They aren't part of that 14 million. If we include them and you claim that it's 99% of people who aren't working then I guess the actual number of people without jobs is more like a billion. So again, where are the jobs for those people?
Also, you say you have no reason to make this up. I'm not calling you a liar but I can think of a few reasons for you to make these things up. You are trying to say that jobs are plentiful and anyone who wants work could find it immediately. By claiming that a convicted felon/high school drop out can find a job instantly you are trying to prove your point. If you were to say "Yes, it's tough to find a job out there." you'd be proving my point. Instead you are tossing out a few anecdotes with no facts to try to counter national, state, and local statistics on the economy.
Texas's unemployment rate is 8.5%. The population is 25,200,000. That means that 2,142,000 people are unemployed (and looking for work.) Please show me anything at all that shows 1,000,000 jobs available in Texas right now. That would still leave over a million people unemployed (and apparently about 1 of every 6 people without a job whether they are considered unemployed or not at least according to your 99% claim.)
Yes, there are some people who have a college degree who don't want to work retail. Most college graduates, however, are smart enough to realize that you can start low and work your way up and that any job is better than bankruptcy and foreclosure caused by no job at all. I've mentioned a few times now that I had 2 doctorates apply for a 10 hour/week file clerk job. I've had pizza delivered by an MIT graduate. I had a neighbor who made 6 figures as an engineer who took a job stocking grocery store shelves. These aren't unusual cases. 30 million people are under-employed. That means that 30 million people have jobs for which they are considerably over qualified. To get those jobs they beat out other people who were considerably over qualified as well as everyone else.0 -

I didn't go to HR. I went to a clerk who wasn't busy and asked for an application. I also agreed that it was weird and she was being nosey.
Uh, huh. Interesting. So, you believe what a nosey, busy clerk said to you when walking off the street asking for an application?0 -
It's not hard to find a job if your willing to take anything. Mg donalds is always hiring. I just find it funny that in my family full of felons and ex cons we All have jobs....everyone but the one uncle with a degree. My hubby brings home great money selling cars he's an ex con,my brother who got out of prison a month ago and is still on parole has a job.my cousins all with various criminal records all ihave jobs except for the ones who are still screw ups.You can throw as many statistics at me you want. All I'm speaking of is what I'm seeing in my life.
