FURBABIES-
Hey guys, hubby just took Neena to the vet for her annual shots/exam and get our Vets blessing with the baby arriving soon. Vet did a thourough check and gave us a list of things that he recommend that we keep up- Again, these are just suggestions.
I thought I would share-
- Reduce food given to her. With the baby arriving Neena's exercise will diminish until we can get adjusted. So vet recommened we reduce her food intake to 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup at night until we get back on a daily walking routine. This will avoid Neena gaining any unnessary weight during our transition
- Neena has longer ears than normal. Vet suggested that we keep her ears are clean at all times. Baby have a tendency of pulling on them. By keeping them clean we make sure that no infections get contracted from dog to baby.
- We give Neena "hoof bones" instead of the Petsmart bones because these can actually be dissolved by her tummy and they don't give her diarreah like the white bones do. Vet said going forward to read any labels on any bone purchased and if it says "wash hands" anywhere on the label NOT to purchase them. It means that the bones have not been steralized and we could potentially be bringing in saminella or other things into the house
- Make sure we keep her nails trimmed. This will keep the noise down while the baby is sleeping & with reduce any scratches between Neena & the baby.
-Vet also said to be careful on any tail pulling...because if her anal glands have not been cleaned then we could end up with infections between dog & baby
I think the list he gave us is pretty much common sense but some of them are good to knows and things that we may want to start incorporating into our routine right now.
Good luck with your furbabies!0 -
Ashley....sorry to hear about your husband. Hope his back gets better soon! As far as blankets, the hospital should have them. I packed so much stuff with Kadence and didn't need hardly any of it. You could check with your hospital but mine provided:
For me--
-bathroom necessities...soap, shampoo, conditioner, sanitary pads, disposable panties (all I really needed were my contacts, deodorant, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a hairbrush)
-I wore the hospital gown the whole time I was there...it was a full gown with easy breastfeeding access...just was easier for me
-extra pillows and blankets
For baby--
-gown and hat
-lots of swaddling blankets
-pacifiers
-baby shampoo
-diapers and wipes
There were other things provided...those are just the ones I can think of. They also gave me two different free diaper bags full of samples of formulas and diapers and wipes. Some things I know I want to bring this time include:
-boppy pillow (will make it so much easier to breastfeed, especially after a c-section)
-nursing cover (we have a lot of visitors and this will make it easier to breastfeed while people are there)
-some dvds for my husband...he got bored during the days
This is actually a good topic...would be good to hear other's ideas on what they plan to bring.0 -
Oh! And another thing I should add...no one warned me about how tough little babies can be on your nipples when you first start breastfeeding! Invest in some soothies (reusable gel pads) and a nipple shield! When Kadence was born she had sucked her hands raw in the womb...if that tells you anything about what she did to my nipples!! Ow... Just another thing to keep in mind!0
-
Yes, and I would bring some slip-on shoes...I was always getting up and moving around when people were there and last time I wore flip-flops...but this time it won't be as warm!
Yeah...my list so far is:
For me--
glasses, contacts
toothbrush and toothpaste (for hubby and me)
hair brush and hair ties
lotion and lip balm
deodorant (for hubby and me)
clothes for hubby
going home outfit for me
breast pads, nipple cream, nipple shield
boppy and nursing cover
dvds
ereader
camera and camera card
For baby--
going home outfit
Extra gown (the hospital one was really big last time)
hat (my grandma made a special one to wear home)
blanket (for going home over the car seat)
For the big sister--
new baby doll and big sister kit (I'm making one with big sister books and stuff...she'll love it!)
I'm still working on my lists, but this is what I have so far.0 -
Ok, no baby yet!!!! I think anytime though. She is low!!! Actually hurts my bladder everytime she moves. My back is KILLING me, and I've been having cramps for two days, but my contractions have stopped pretty much. A few small ones here and there, but nothing like last Wednesday. I have an appt. tomorrow, I'm excited to see what's going on now. I'm thinking I must be dialated more, but well see. I would LOVE to have the baby but really would like her to wait until 37 weeks, just for the sake of peace of mind. I also have the Strep B test tomorrow, not really looking forward to that, but it's one more thing that reminds me how close she is. Also have to pre register at the hospital tomorrow to, I'll be glad to get that done. I'm SO excited, Zack and I finally agreed on a name, I thought for sure he would say no, but as of now baby's name is going to be Aspyn. Still deciding on middle name, I like Aspyn Alexa and he said no, but well see. Just a relief to have a name, now that she will be here anytime!!
My bag for the hospital:
Contacts/Glasses
Deoderant
Lotion
Chapstick
Breast pads
Reg. Pads
X-tra undies
Compfy clothes to come home in
Camera
X-tra Batteries
Razor
Hair Brush
Shampoo/Cond./ Soap
Slip on shoes
For Baby:
Coming home outfit w/ hat
X-tra blanket
X-tra outfit
Hospital supplies diapers, but I have some in the diaper bag and wipes too
Hubby will most likely meet me at hospital unless it happens on the weekend. So he will have his own stuff already that he has at work. I am planning on bringing an extra outfit for him.
Kristin - That is a good idea, I need a big brother bag/gift. I better get busy on that one. Thanks for the idea.
My weekend was pretty good, besides being uncomfortable, I had a HUGE burst of energy yesterday! I cleaned the whole house and shampood my car, vaccummed it like crazy, armoraled and cleaned all the leather. At least baby will come home in a clean car now. Even went for a couple walks this weekend. Now I really need to get some meals made and froze so I won't have to worry about that for the first few days at least.
We'll I better go, sorry for the HUGE post, feel like I've been MIA lately.0 -
Morning ladies-
Had a long post typed out and then I cancelled out and lost everything so this may be a shorter version
DR APT
well it didn't go as well as I thought. I'm up another pound - IN A WEEK!! Dr was also not happy at the fact that the diabetes company has not gotten me the necessary tools to monitor my glucose levels. So I think some heads may have rolled with the 3rd party company after I left.
Meanwhile, the baby is measuring much larger than he likes so I'm having an U/S done on Thursday to check the baby's size, liquids and other factors. I'm excited that I get to see my baby!!!!! :smooched: :smooched: :smooched: Dr did say if everything is "ok" and the baby continues to grow at this excellerated rate that I may have this baby BEFORE March 12. Good thing hubby and I are pretty on top of our "TODO" list!!
As far as hospital bags-
My suitcase is in the baby closet and is already halfway full. I add a little bit to it everytime we find something on sale or I remember something else I need. My list is made up of a hospital list given to me when we did the tour, plus feedback from the head nurse + recommendations from friends/ family. I don't care if it's too much- rather be prepared than not at all...but that's just me:
Driver's license / Insurance card / FSA card/Credit Card
OB GYN office card/Pediatricians office card
Eyeglasses
Notepad & Pens
Sundries (shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/deodarant/toothbrush/toothpaste/nail file) for me & hubby
Comb/makeup/lip moisturizer
Adult wipies & depends(??)
Bathrobe/Old PJ’s/slippers & socks
Pillow w/ colorful pillowcase
2 Phone chargers
Contact List to call
Camera/charger
Dried fruit & Sodas for hubby (we have small fridge in room)
Hubby’s swimming trunks (he’s volunteered to help me shower)
Cheapy shower slippers for me
Nursing bra’s// nursing pads// nipple cream
Comfy going home outfit for me & flats
Comfy going home outfit for baby (NB and 0-3 month size)
Baby cap/gloves/socks

Baby nail clippers
Boppy for nursing

all the tips on nipple cream, shields and soothies is seriously so helpful!!! thank you so much ladies! i am going to grab some of those things for sure (as well as the stretchy target nursing bra!) to put in the hospital bag! thats my mission for tonight...start getting the bag together!
i have to say...with all of the talk on how painful breastfeeding is...i give mommas a whole lot of credit who do it!! i definitely plan on doing it...so i know it will be tough...but its worth it in the end!! bravo to us women!!!0 -
Nipple cream- Since I'm a newbie at this I have no idea but my SIL gave me a tube of Lansinoh and told me take one to the hospital and keep one at home.
For nipple cream, I cannot handle the Lansinoh, something I feel bad let my baby have in her mouth. I bought "Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Nipple Butter". It's more pricey but give me a peace of mind. :-)
The Lansinoh should be safe for mom and baby, but it's a preference. There are other options out there as well...I just know the Lansinoh worked well for me last time.
Don't take it wrong way, yes it's safe just like millions of other products out (cosmetic as well) there. I'm not trying to start a debate or try to convince anybody or anything. It's personal choice and I'm just mentioning other more natural alternatives for others who likes to check it out.
Lanolin Ingredients: Water, Paraffinum Liquidum, Propylene Glycol, PEG-75 Lanolin
* Paraffinum Liquidum - (mineral oil) is a petroleum by-product and is created through distillation. Mineral oil is completely transparent and is basically a liquid.
* Propylene Glycol - http://antiagingchoices.com/harmful_ingredients/propylene_glycol.htm
* etc. - I'm sure anyone can search more if they are interested in0 -
morning ladies I must say I am so thankful to be off work now, waking up throughout the night just seems to be in the cards for me so being able to take extra time in the morning to wake up and take naps throughout the day is definitely keeping me sane. I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and have my next obgyn appt - the dreaded strep B test...yikes lol but I'm excited to get measured and see how Mason is doing etc. I can't believe there is only 6 weeks left until I finally get to meet my sweet baby boy! SO exciting - I can't even yet imagine what life will actually be like and what it will be like to really be a MOM!!
Still no calls yet on the mini...so it's looking more and more like we'll have to use it as a trade. We went to look at some vehicles last night and so far I think we are leaning towards a Chev Equinox (used 2010) so we'll see. Or possibly a used Ford Escape.
I also wanted to share a few more pics we got in our sneak peak from our photo shoot Let me know what you think!

Hi Ladies,
Love coming over to read on everyone's progress and the plans. Glad you all are doing well..
Misti - how are you dear...seems like the baby will be here anyday now.
Rayna...Love the pics...they turned out great and you and the hubby are so cute. I thought the picture of the egg with Mason's name on it was lovely...aww...And I agree with everyone else the winter maternity pics are nice...I never really thought about it...kind of makes me hope it snows when I need to take mine...lol.
Glad you are enjoying your time at home...it the one thing I regretted about working up until my due date...though my son was late...I think I should have taken more personal days just to relax maybe catch a movie...or do nothing. None of that this time around for me...
keep up the good work ladies0 -
Ashley, I don't feel tiny, but thanks! haha! Just had to comment on your progress after seeing your signature, "38 weeks"...I can't believe you're so close!!! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear how the next few weeks go.0

Yeah...my little brother was 10 lbs 11 1/2 oz! My mom was 40 when she had him, and they made her push for almost a full day before deciding that he was too big to push out and needed a c-section! My poor mother!!! I can't even imagine!! THEN after they took him away a nurse came in and was telling my mother that he had down syndrome...and it turned out they were telling the wrong person!!! My brother was totally fine! Talk about a bad experience!!
ANYways...for any first time mommies out there who are having a c-section and want some of the details, let me know. Or if you are just curious. With my daughter, my water broke and I went into labor, but then we ended up needing an emergency c-section. I just know a lot of my friends were curious about what to expect if they had to go through it. So feel free to ask.0 -
I have both Insanity and P90X. I think Insanity is WAY harder than P90X. I had to take breaks during the warm up sometimes and I was a cardio nut before I started. I'm worried Insanity may be too intense even a month or so after delivery. I plan on easing back into harder workouts like that. I am still doing cardio workouts on the elliptical, bike, and treadmill now though so maybe it won't be so hard. Personally, I realllllly miss strength training. I haven't done as much as I had planned while pregnant. Since Eric has started doing P90X now I have tried to start doing some modified workouts with him on strength training days. Other than those two DVD's, I'll probably spend time in the gym when I can. There's a family room where I can take Abbie at the base gym, but for $20 a month I can go to a better gym that has daycare. I wouldn't trust anyone with my newborn at a gym, but one of my friends works in the daycare so that would help a lot. I'm undecided if I want to spend even $20 on a gym membership when I can go on base for free. Classes and daycare are included in that $20 though so that's nice. I have a feeling the DVD's may be my best bet for a while since I'm sure it'll be hard to find time to get out of the house. We also have a paved trail around our neighborhood and I have a jogging stroller so that'll be nice when it's warm outside.0

Kristy, you’re so lucky to have your shower so early! I had asked my mom that mine be early too so that I’d have time to set things up & buy what’s left and not rush to do all this while 9moths pregnant, but alas is looks like mine will happen when I’m 34weeks. Enjoy!
Kistinbee, Wow we’re only a day apart! Are you having a boy or girl?
Oh and what a horrible experience your mom had to go through!
Rayna, Love the photos. I wasn’t going to do photos because I didn’t want indoor ones and now you have me re-thinking it.
As for workout after the baby is here, well I’ve decided to order the P90X series, I figured it would be easier to do a video at home than going to the gym, but I wanted a challenge. I have the 30day shred already if the P90X is too much for me at first.
Ashley, Wow its coming soon for you, glad to hear that the fluids were back to normal and no induction was necessary.
Denise, I’m so afraid of a big baby too! My family history suggest an 8-9 pound baby, and my Dr has already told me I was measuring big, she was actually concerned that twins were missed (yikes)! Or that the due date was off, but because we’d been TTC for 2 years prior I knew the exact conception date, oh and ultrasounds were done to confirm there’s just one in there. I was eventually told that it was probably how I was carrying the baby (all in front) that made me look further along than I was, hopefully your little one isn’t as big as they expect either.
Mistibergman, 20lbs! That’s amazing! I wish I could have only gained 20, I’m at 30 and only at week 27! Sorry to hear they expect back labor though, but you sound very positive, keep up the good attitude!
AFM, I’m doing ok food wise (eating healthy foods 80% of the time) and have been getting back into a more regular workout schedule. Tonight I’m actually trying a new video I just bought, It’s a prenatal pilates with the balance ball, cant wait to try it! I hope this will help with my weigh gain, I was gaining way too much too fast, so I hope all my efforts will regulate the gain.
I also have my glucose test on Monday and can’t get a straight answer about which test I’m getting. My Dr’s office said they set me up for the 3hr exam right away, but the hospital says I have the 1hr one. So I now have no clue! Nor have I been able to get a straight answer about if I’m allowed to eat before hand or not, argh….

Morning!!
I have my growth scan sono today at 3pm and I'm estatic!! :smooched: Hopefully this baby will more social than he was last time and I can get a good look! :smooched:
The GD nurse came to the house last night. She actually works at the hospital that we turned down for the Woman Services Dept. She was very nice and very thorough!! She went over paperwork, cost, insurance, we went through the pantry (and I passed) and then we went to the fridge (and I passed) and then we went over my diary from MFP!! She was impressed!
Reviewed my new diet and it's not much of a change from what we're eating now. WHAT is a change is going to be the times/types of foods that I will be eating and when. and remembering to take my reads 5 times a day. Just something else to work on.
The nurse did mention something to me last night that before i knew it I just felt the tears rolling down my cheeks. My baby will have GD. **Can you hear the crickets churping?** Because I have it- I have passed it to my baby. She said within the hour of the baby being born I will need to nurse the baby. About half an hour after nursing, the nurse will come in to take the baby's glucose read. She said this is a necessary process until the baby's sugar levels balance out. I was able to gather enough courage to ask her where they would poke the baby and she said the foot....  his poor little feet...
At least I have a few weeks to mentally prepare for this. I need to be strong for our baby and for me and for my hubby who was very macho about this as I continued to sob on his shoulder- but Lord knows when the time comes he'll be a bigger mess than I am right now!0 -
Ash...Yep...one day apart! It will be nice to have someone right along with me! Although I will be having the baby on April 4th (another c-section). And we like to be surprised so have no clue what the gender is! I at first thought maybe a boy, but now am leaning more towards a girl. We will see...
As far as your glucose test, find out! If you're having the 3 hour test you cannot eat or drink anything (even water) for 12 hours before. If it's just the 1 hour test, you can eat and drink normally. So, I would for sure find out! And good luck!0 -
Yeah, it's good to have a variety and some different sizes! I also have some of the Medela ones that came with my breast pump and a small Advent one also. We used them all at different times.
AND, you really don't need to have a ton of them. Trust me, we have WAY more than we ever needed. I wish I had planned with a friend, then we could split the cost and split the bottles and have a few of each different kind!
Kristen- we didn't realize that until we had the 60+ bottles sitting on our counter. But she gave them to us for a steal + nipples that she never used (still in wrapper) and a few other baby items that she never used that she just threw in.
We've decided that once we know what we'll be using we're going to label a few of the bottles and give them to both grandparents to keep in their home and in case we ever lose any we still have plenty left. I even have a few to give to my nephew who is going on 6 months0 -

Ash, I've had the GD 4 times and I can tell you - the direction I was given was no food/liquid consumption after 8pm the night before. As a matter a fact no food/liquid consumption until they are done with the testing. I would definitely double check if it's the 1 hour or the 3 hour and be sure to pack a juice/snack for either one! You'll be starving!0 -

Ok, so you just may have you’re little one before I do, our due date is the 10th, and if all goes well I’ll be able to have a vaginal delivery. I had wanted a surprise too but my husband REALLY wanted to know the sex, so I caved and I’m happy now that I know it’s a little boy.
As for the test, I realized the 3hr test I can’t eat before whereas the one hour one I can, but the dr & hospital are giving me conflicting information. I’m almost inclined to believe the hospital because although my dr may have wanted the 3hr test, the hospital may have scheduled it incorrectly giving me the one hour one. Guess I’ll see on Monday!0 -

They do? Really?? I know it's for their own health and it maybe my raging hormones...it's been a rough week...but did that ever hit home. Your probably right- I'm sure in my mind I'm making it MUCH worse than it really is. thank you!0 -

GREAT idea on leaving some with family!!0 -

how many would you say is enough and how many is too much. sometimes i feel like i am the queen of 'too much' like in terms of packing...i always pack wayyyy too much. and since we dont have a ton of kitchen space...it would be nice to have around the right amount so we're not overflowing with bottles0 -

Hmmm...as far as an actual number? I'd say probably 6-8 bottles would be plenty. You will do dishes more often than you think! Same with laundry! I went overboard and bought like everything they recommend...and you don't need it! I have so many things that I bought for Kadence that were never even worn or used! Like side-snap shirts...you don't need them! Onesies...stock up on those...you will not believe the blow outs and some of them never get totally clean again! Some days I swear we'd go through 4-6 of them!0 -
For those who might be interested in, you can check out something call "Fenugreek"
"Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum). Fenugreek seed has been used to increase milk production since biblical times. The herb contains phytoestrogens, which are plant chemicals similar to the female sex hormone estrogen. A key compound, diosgenin, has been shown experimentally to increase milk flow.(0)"

My friend told me about it and said it helped her. Don't think you need to take all the time (read the link to get more info).

wow this group goes fast! lol
Thanks for all the feedback on the workouts, I tried Insanity before I got pregnant and it was SO hard so I think like many of you said I will need to work up to incorporating that intense of a workout again. I think I'm going to start with walking, light weight training and hot yoga (Moksha) in the beginning and then start incorporating the super intense videos like insanity etc. we'll see how it goes. I really miss Moksha yoga so I'm really looking forward to that again - it's not as intense as Bikram and there are 60 min classes you can take instead of 90 as well which I like.
As for bottles, we bought the tommy tippee ones - the slow flow,, anti colic ones, they looked really good and I did some reading on them so I hope they are good - we didn't buy too many so we'll see how they are and I guess we can always switch if they are no good. A friend gave me a microwave bottle sanitizer and like you Ashley, I had NO idea about those things, I totally though you just washed them! I've been thinking too that I need to get a book on newborn babies! I have so many pregnancy, labour, delivery and breastfeeding books but none on actually caring for this newborn when he comes! lol and I really don't know anything! haha I'm sure a lot is common sense and instinct etc but I'm a control freak and a major planner so I like to be prepared lol. I think I may pick up a book today - any suggestions?
As for fur babies...my husband and I really need to get serious about ours...she thinks she's human and sleeps in between us in bed usually spooning with me and even has her head on my pillow! I know....SO BAD. I really want to break this habit because I'm planning on having Mason sleep beside me in a bassinet so I can have an easier time with breastfeeding and just so I feel comfortable for the first few months having him close by. I don't want our dog Sophie in the bed with us while I'm breastfeeding Mason etc. I think we're going to bring her crate up to the bedroom and start putting her in there at night - which I know she will NOT like. She's an Italian Greyhound and weighs 10 lbs - she has like NO body fat and is VERY attached to me so she loves being in a warm bed with blankets so I think it might be difficult and we only have just less than 6 weeks left...urgh, nothing like procrastinating...whoops. Anyone else facing a similar problem? Kristy I know you had mentioned that to me, how are things going with your fur babies?
AFM - yesterday I had my 34 week appointment and strep b test - so I have another appt in 2 weeks so should get the results then. Mason is measuring good, his HR was 134 and he is still head down. My dr said I'm still carrying quite high and have a ton of room for him to drop down - I read that lots of walking can help with that because of your hips rocking back and forth...Sooo I have been planning to try out the SNAP fitness near my house and start using their elliptical or treadmill and that is definitely motivation. My BP was good as well so everything looks pretty good. After the apt I went back to work to hand in my short term disability paperwork and spend the afternoon training my boss and coworker on my responsibilities so they can train my replacement once they find her/him. It was kind of nice to be back at work and see everyone. I was exhausted when I got home lol
I'm going to my Service Canada branch this morning to try to clarify this whole confusing maternity/paternity leave - short term disability situation...it's all so confusing to me and I just want to make sure I understand all the paperwork etc because I don't want to screw anything up!! I know I'll feel a lot better after i get to talk to someone there. I don't know why they have to make everything SO confusing!
Also, I started looking up slow cooker recipes that you can pre-prep and freeze - I'm thinking this will be a really good option to have ready for the first few weeks after Mason is born - here are some links I wanted to share just in case any of you ladies might be interested

Anyway - I should probably get my butt in gear and get going with my day!
Happy Friday everyone!

I get info from my OB, which was included in the hospital pre-registration form. I filled out and send a form to the place to request a kit (bring to hospital, and the OB suppose to collect that). However, I haven't heard anything from the place regarding this. It could be cause I sent too early? They might be sending stuff to me closer to my delivery.
I cannot find my form, but I believe it was thru LifeSource (for Chicago area - http://www.lifesource.org/specialprogcord.asp)
Checkout this site to see if you can find more info: http://www.nationalcordbloodprogram.org/. Or talk to your OB. I believe not all hospital / OB will do that.
Looks like the following NY hospital (if you are delivering there) is one of a few on the list:
Maimonides Medical Center
Brooklyn, New York
Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, Inc.
(561) 982-2900

Hey ladies
Just wanted to share this awesome and SUPER easy slow cooker recipe I made today to surprise my hubby for dinner!
3 ingredient pulled pork! It uses rootbeer (which I can't get enough of these days lol)
Check it out:

I used Mug rootbeer and Bullseye Sweet & Sticky BBQ sauce :bigsmile:0 -
Just an interesting article I found about why it's necessary (or not) to administer eye drops/cream to your baby immediately after birth...something I'm going to talk to my Dr about at my next visit to see what the protocol is at my hospital.
Just thought I would share
