Some of these are repeated, but here are some of mine:
-having a bath
-reading a good book
-watching a flim
-curling up with my cat
-seeing a friend or talking on the phone
-a cup of hot tea (ok, I have a couple every day, but not until the evening, and I often look forward to relaxing with my cup of tea)
-baking (stopped doing this when I started on MFP, but I'm better at baking small quantities now, or freezing, or giving stuff away)
-watching comedy clips on youtube
-meditating
-yoga
-going for a walk
-putting some rock songs on itunes - loud - and singing along
-playing a computer game
-watching dvd box sets of old favourite TV shows
-blogging
-painting my nails
-going to the beach4 -
I love going on "Pinterest" and have a bulletin board full of tips and projects I want to try. I also love to bake .. and believe it or not, I don't really have a problem controlling myself or being around it. I leave a little at home for my kids to enjoy and I take the rest in to work and let my co-workers enjoy it. The fun for me is making it .. not eating it.

You make an account by someone who already has an account emailing you an invite. It's a bunch of 'pin-boards' that you can save things too. You can look at other peoples and follow their boards if you like what they post. If you want, message me your e-mail address & I'll send you an invite.0 -

Hi all,
Ok so here goes...things I do that distract me from food cravings and make me feel rewarded:
- Buying a magazine. If I walk to the shops I called it a "reward walk" with my magazine at the end of it!
- A session in the steam, sauna and jacuzzi after a work out in the gym.
- A pedicure (gotta be the paraffin wax one!).
- A session of reflexology (booked as a reward every few weeks if I have "done good").
- A new piece of clothing (granted it needs to be in a sale so I can do it often enough!)
- 30 minutes of MFP forum surfing (making time for myself!)
- Throwing away a fat piece of clothing - walking it to the communal bin area (throwing away the "old" image).
- Spending time finding a delicious low cal recipe on the internet or in a cook book - then making it.
- Buying a really luxurious shower creme and using it before a night out so I smell lovely and feel special (gives me more confidence).
- Meeting a friend for a black coffee in a really nice coffee shop (and sitting away from the counter so I don't see the cakes!).
- Watching a tv program on catch up tv that I have missed and not getting up for any distractions! (rarely happens).
Cheers guys,
xx6 -
Heh.. my new vice is THIS!3
-
Browsing in bookstores...really taking my time as if I were at the library.
Which makes me think of going to the library!
Surfing the net...I love to google...it leads me to so many different things....I'm easily distracted!
Playing on my iPad....my Mother's Day gift from my wonderful daughter and son-in-law...lots of free apps to download.
Watching old movies on Turner Classics....love when there is a string of some of my fave old stars...Ida Lupino, John Garfield, etc.
Taking the grandkids to the movies....believe me at these prices and 4 grandsons....that's indulging...plus I feel so good about myself when I stay away from the candy and popcorn!4 -
I like to get outside and walk on trails, walk in scenic areas, or ride my bike in these areas. It relieves stress as well as getting some exercise. I always feel great after. It's a good way to unwind after a day at work. I just started doing this a couple of years ago, and I can't believe how many beautiful trails and places I have found close by home that I have never seen.3

This has made me think about it...I don't really have a "reward" for myself. Sounds strange but I do the things I love and I've always made time for them. I sew and also construct my own patterns so if I see something in a shop window or online, I know I can have it as soon as I make it to the fabric store! I read at least a novel a week or if not a novel, some other type of book. Our kids love reading and when they see us reading it reinforces the good habit for them.5

I find I need to do something that will burn the energy in me whether it is talking, walking or some other activity but I have to do something.1

I am really just trying to find some new vices. Before I had kids I smoked for a long time. And I worked all the time. Once I got pregnant food replaced the smokes and I no longer worked outside the home so I was more free to eat any time of the day or night. My other vices like TV, the internet, going out with friends all are connected with eating, too. I have really had to trace my steps very far back to find what it is I even love to do anymore.
So far I have started taking baths again, doing crafts (mostly for the kids scouts and school but I really like it), meditating again, hiking again, reading more, taking more walks.
I remember how much I loved dolls when I was a kid. So I think I might try making a reborn doll or dollfie and see how that goes. I used to write a lot when I was a teen and young adult so I want to get back to that as well.
it is truly amazing how much more of yourself you find when you stop covering it up with food.
I am a smoker, trying to quit, can't smoke in my rental and winter in wisconsin just isn't going to allow me to smoke. Anyways, try crochet. Just go to your library or to a walmart and get a book on crochet and a hook and some yarn. I love it. I used to knit but it takes too long. In my opinion crochet is easier and faster. However keeping your hands busy seems to keep your mind busy and that helps.3 -
I am so glad I'm not the only one. Thank you for sharing. Everything in my life is wrapped up with my kids and job and rush rush rush, that I also do not know what I like anymore aside from eating, baking or drinking a cocktail full of calories. Maybe that is the problem we forgot we existed.3

I actually do like walking in a mall and looking around. Have not done this in a long time. went from 223 to 240 due
to giving into negative thinking, today, i had 1500 cal and feel better.3 -

I will sit down and watch one of my favorite chick flicks, and paint my nails.
Watching youtube videos and finding fun ways to fix my hair/makeup and getting all prettied up - great for self-esteem
tanning bed (but not that often) or just laying out in the sun to tan
taking over the house with my music or audio book..
zumba! I love to zumba. I am a mom, so most the time I have to pay for a sitter to go..so it's a reward..lol
for a bigger reward, I will go see a movie in the theaters, or live theater which is a good time...even if it's for the kids
Dancing with the girls (after one of those makeover sessions..just like getting ready for prom..)

Pinterest has saved my *kitten* many a day! Love doing the gardening, crafting, occasionally making party foods...it's the perfect place for me to find something to do. I also like to pin pics of places I want to go, things I want to see.0 -

I find a nice coffee is just as satisfying to me as a bar of chocolate or a cake - and way less calories!! I don't go for the latte's or cappucino's tho... also I joined a health club and go swimming then reward myself with a bit of time in the hot tub, plus a sauna and steam which is pure bliss!0

LOVE THIS !0

Does anyone have any good STOP & meditate tips? I catch myself letting my need to binge get too far gone. I tried to put the M&M's down just now, but I didn't win....seeing as I had 5 cookies just before that I'd like to puke =( I need to get in the habit of catching things sooner & calming myself down before it's too late. It happens a lot at work so my options can be limited (they frown upon me stopping to do my nails or take a bath hahaha)!
Any ideas? Feel free to send me a message....0 -
What can I do when I'm at work? The most difficult time for me is when I'm at work (sitting at a desk in front of the computer) and I can't really go take a bath....I do surf the net and come on MFP but any other ideas? I do get up and take breaks every now and then....any other ideas besides taking a walk?0
