Week 7 Day 2. Once again didn't feel like stopping when the 25 minute run was over, so I went an extra 10 minutes. Feels great. :)

I (barely) finished week 4, day 3 yesterday. Not sure why it was harder than before, maybe the almost 90 degree temps?

Anyway, I will repeat that level at least once before moving on.

I think temperature definitely plays a role, especially with humidity. The temps here have fluctuated pretty widely since I started C25K, and I definitely notice an effect on how I feel during the runs.

I've completed week 3. I found it better than day 2. I did an extra 60 secs running at a faster pace too. We have friends staying with us this weekend, so I'm going to do an extra day of week 3. Then on Tuesday next week I will start week 4!!!!

Today was week 5, day 2. Despite my desire to be a runner, I found myself dreading the thought of running. It was actually a lot easier than I expected it to be. I did find myself already dreading the 20 minute run next time though.

Yep! Just remind yourself, being a runner and dreading the runs are not mutually exclusive. It's part of what is so challenging. Be patient with yourself and the mindgames we play with ourselves! The dread does lessen, though it comes up for me still periodically.

And the 20 minute run... yeah, we all dreaded it I think. I sure did, and there's nothing easy about it. It is, however, a turning point of epic proportions once you're on the other side of it. Good luck!!!! Sounds like you're right where you "should" be.

Today after work i'm doing W3D3. I have had some good running days and not so good, but I still feel like I am making progress.

My breathing needs a lot of help though! I always think of got it steady and then all of a sudden i'm off and then it's just all a mess.

One day at a time. Ice and compression has been awesome for recovery after running though!

I think it's often a love/hate relationship with running. I'll go out and push myself through the jogging parts, asking myself why the heck I ever decided to do such a crazy thing at nearly 50 years old. I'll feel miserable as I force myself through it, but when it's over it feels so good, and I find myself looking forward to the next day so I can torture myself all over again. For me, I think it's the sense of accomplishment and conquering something I always hated.

Don't worry about starting week 4. Everyone has bad runs. I was shocked when an 8 minute jog was near impossible to me just a few days after I had completed my 20 minute run. Some times you just have a bad run. You will knock week 4 out of the park!

Thank you so much for this! I went out today and kicked week 4 day 1 to the curb! I have never run 6 or even 4 minutes at a stretch. I was so proud of myself for not walking that I was just a-grinning each time the program told me to walk. It was a good night!
  • Fantastic job. I wasn't feeling it tonight. After doing a 25 minute run on Monday, I struggled to even get past 8 minutes. Ended up w/ a 20 minutes of jogging w/ lots of walk breaks. Oh well, at least I was out there.

Took a 2+ week hiatus and decided it was time to kick myself in the butt and get out there.

Did my FIRST run outside (I live in Wisconsin, we got 16 inches of snow two weeks ago) ever since starting C25k

Started back over on Week Three Day three (you may remember I was struggling with Week 4)

I successfully did 1.44 miles in 20 minutes with an average pace of 14:00 mile and a 4.3 mph speed (Which I don't believe, as my phone was showing speeds of 7.9 at times... um.. no) I walked for about twenty seconds of the runs, which was way better than I expected as I've never been able to run outside before.

LOVED the change of scenery from running/walking on the treadmill these past two months!

I went by the running store and bought new socks yesterday. They were great! Switched from the distance version to the timed version and repeated week 4, Day 3 this morning. It went pretty well, but I will probably repeat this one more time before moving to week 5.

On a different note, I've been at the same weight for at least 2 months, but the clothes I bought yesterday are a size smaller!

Started Week 2 today. My son is still along for the ride and doing great. He tells me he's tired out but he's not even breathing heavy when he says it.

My husband went on the last two runs but not today... I don't know if that means he's going to drop out or not :(

    Week 3, Day 2.

Wearing the HRM and keeping my pace such that I stay at or near max HR during the jogs. That keeps me at about an 11 minute mile.
Felt good enough that I added another 90 seconds of jogging when I was supposed to be cooling down.

That's great but don't run at max HR all the time. I would target somewhere around 75-85%. An occasional "all-out" run doesn't hurt, I do that once a week.

At 51, my theoretical max hr is only 169. I've never had a stress test to failure, but I've been to 190 bpm with no problems. So, I'm comfortable that the 170 number is something like 80-85% of actual max and should be safe.
Good thought though...it's just not an all out run.

I completed Week 3 Day 3 today- a fairly hilly route but enjoyed it anyway. Looking forward to week 4 now...

Today... when an "easy 2.5 mile run" was anything but easy. But I did it! Onward.

Complete Week 2 Day 2! It was hard but I'm doing it. The c25k app I'm using doesn't track distance, unless I'm missing it somewhere, so I also use mapmyrun app, it says I'm doing an 17.31 min mile.....but hey, it's exercise and I'm lapping everyone who's still on the couch, right? :)

    Congrats to all!!

I had a good run today after taking a week off. At first I felt bad about missing so many days, but I guess my body just needed a break. I had been swimming and bike riding on my non-run days. Anyway, averaged a 5.1 pace during the 28 min run. Bumped it up to 5.5 for the last minute. One more week until I'm a graduate.

Tomorrow is week 3, day 2 for me. Had to bump it to a day later than usual due to work. It's gonna be a hot one, so I'll use my shady trail.

So I did it, I registered for a 5k. It is June 22nd. Since I am in week 8, I have plenty of time to get faster. I am excited. This will be my 3rd 5k, but the first one that I actually trained for. I intend to run the entire thing, no walk breaks. I am also eying an 8k in early July and a 10k late July. Here's to a summer of running :D

That's a great way to keep motivated! I have my first 5k on July 14. I might start looking for an 8 and 10k also so I continue to progress.

W2, D1 in the books and it was my first dry and sunny run!

W1D3 done. I've actually done four days so far but I wanted to get into a Mon-Wed-Fri pattern so I'm starting W2 after the weekend.

Slightly nervous about the step up. I'm doing OK but I definitely feel in need of a break towards the end of my run segments so I think Monday's going to be interesting.

The dreaded week 5, day 3 is done! It wasn't easy. I couldn't breathe through my nose, my legs felt super tight, and my brain wanted to give up the entire time. But I did it. Done. Now where's my couch? Oh wait...I'm off to a butts n guts class. Lol

I did week 4 day 1 today. I went out really early so it wouldn't be too hot. I didn't manage to do all the running. I did the first set, but had to walk the 3 mins on the second set. I did both of the 5 minute jogs, so I'm pleased with that.

I won't be out again till Tuesday now. We have we've not seen in 10 years staying with us this weekend. Fun times ahead!!!

Week 3 day 2 done. It's gonna be a scorcher so I went out early on a shady path. Got through it without too much trouble and felt so good that I stayed out an hour and tossed in some more short jogs. I want to steadily keep my pace above 17 mins because I'm worked toward 16 so I can someday (ha) do a half marathon or even a marathon at Disney. You have to stay over 16 to avoid being swept. I feel like running has gone from being my enemy to a frenemy now.
