I went on a hike at Linville Gorge in NC and it was beautiful! We went on Shortoff Mountain. One of my favorite places to hike ever. Check out Google images of the place

Went on a lovely hiking weekend with my BFF in Huntsville, Ontario. Enjoyed a day at Arrowhead Provincial Park. Got some nice photos even though it was raining all day long. Had a great time.

Wow, This is the first time I'm actually taking time to go through this thread, I'm loving it. Such great adventures :happy:0

Here are some pics of us today doing Heart Mountain in Alberta. I take my daughter to almost all my hikes/scrambles but today she got to walk a little on her on for about 30 mins and she even climbed a rock wall with the help of her harness/rope. I was so proud of her, for a 2 year old she did amazing. Once we got back down, I showed her what we had done and she said "wow, can we go again mom?"
I can't wait to start bringing my granddaughter with me ... she'll be 2 in January.0 -
Last week a friend and I hiked the section of the Bruce Trail from "Halfway Log Dump" to "High Dump" in the Bruce Peninsula National Park in Ontario and camped there for two nights. It was spectacular! It's been quite awhile since I last did any hiking so it was a good full immersion back into it! The trail is 7.5 km and quite difficult most of the way through. It pushed me to just about max capacity on the way in, and the way out two days later was much easier.
I saw these pictures before I saw the writing and I thought ... hey ... that looks like the Tobermory area. I love the Bruce Trail, I go up to Tobermory often and I live at the other end of the Bruce Trail in Niagara. Beautiful Pictures0 -
Took my friend to the Mashell falls today. A little hidden treasure in my backyard not many folks know about.
There is about 4 waterfalls in the area, secluded & not a sole in site.
My friend has 2 australian shepards, 1 is very young, deaf & clumsy (obviously). We were taking pictures & getting ready to head backup when the nightmare began. Her puppy ran off the cliff (100ft) and landed in the river, of course getting washed up on the other side. The current was way to dangerous to get across.. My frind climbed down the cliff with the older dog following her. (not a good idea) I thought about it for 10 minutes told her I was getting help. So I had to run (I don't run) 4 miles back up to the car, to call 911. Then hike back down with the Rescue team. By this time my friend was borderline Hypothermic so they had to get her & her older dog up first. & then inform her NO ONE was crossing that river.
The rescue team called someone to see if they knew how to access the other side. So we drove about 15 minutes around to the other side of the river, when we got there , we were told they had the dog & already on their way up.
DON'T YA JUST LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS?0 -
Heading up the Gunflint trail in northern MN Sunday. No crazy hiking, just to see the colors and hike in to see the magnetic rock.0

Just a small hike at the Jordan Conservation Area ... a lovely hike.

Love seeing the hiking pictures, I have to figure out how to do that - thanks for sharing them. My wife and i just did a light 8 kilometre hike along the Port Alberni Inlet mountain range here on Vancouver Island - the mountains are just getting a light scuff of snow on them and the sunny day is cool enough for a brisk pace. Our german shepherd loves this particular hike, as much of it is along an old logging trail and he enjoys exploring all the culverts along the way :-)0

These pictures make me think that I need to go to Ontario soon! It's beautiful! I at least need to get out of Utah. It's beautiful here too, but I feel like Ive done all of the big hikes. If the weather is nice here later this week, I am dying to get out on any kind of hike possible. lol. It's raining now and supposed to snow, though.0

Spent a little time hiking in the rain yesterday at the Balls Falls Conservation Area in Jordan, Ontario ... so pretty. The staircase up the escarpment made my knees numb ... the picture here is just 1/2 of it. I love our conservation areas and The Bruce Trail.

Here are some of my favorite photos from my trek up Kilimanjaro. We took the 6 day Rongai route with the African Walking Company, and there were 15 hikers in our group.
Day 1:
We spent half a day hiking to our first camp. The incline was gradual and we were all feeling great.
Day 2:
We woke up to our team of cooks, guides, and porters preparing for a long day. We camped in this beautiful spot covered with trees.
Early on in the hike we caught our first glimpse of the summit. After a full day of hiking, we made it to our second camp.
With the exception of two lunches, we spent every meal together in the mess tent. The food was great, and the tent often provided some much needed shelter.
Day 3:
A steep half day hike, brought us to our third camp. To our delight, we found ourselves above the clouds. At this point, two members of our group ended up sick and vomiting, but they recovered by dinner.
Day 4:
Our hike to base camp at 15,400 ft. We could definitely start to feel the air getting thinner. I was still feeling tip top. One of my friends, toppled over from dehydration during the hike. She thankfully recovered by dinner. The two who were sick on Day 3 had also recovered. A third man in our group had been feeling sick for days, and he announced at dinner that he was not going to attempt the summit the next day. We all went to bed early in preparation for our midnight summit attempt.
Day 5:
This is our group of 14 before the summit. It was cold, and some of us, myself included, were starting to feel sick from altitude.
The summit hike took about 9 hours round trip for the group. Not all of us made it, but we left our hearts out there. I still cry thinking about that night. I hiked for over 2 hours while vomiting and made it to about 17,000 ft. I was blindsided by altitude sickness, and it got to the point where I wasn't going to be able to walk anymore. I had thrown up everything (even my water) and what little I could force down just came back up. The guides tell me that I went down strong, and that I was the strongest in the group but altitude got me.
Back at base camp, we all had lunch and then started the day and a half hike down the mountain.
Day 6:
We finished the dusty hike down the mountain and through the rainforest. Crossing the threshold to exit the park was bittersweet. I was looking forward to a nice shower at the resort, but I absolutely LOVED every second I spent on the mountain. It was raw, unique, and beautiful. Kilimanjaro and Uhuru still call out to me every day. I'm planning on going back, taking a longer route for better acclimation, and getting to experience Tanzania from the top!
One last note: The staff who took us up and down that mountain were some of the best people I've ever met. They were kind, smart, and always there for us no matter what was happening. I can't thank them enough for helping to make our journey so memorable!0 -
While I'm at it...We recently went on a beautiful 10 mile hike in Azusa, CA. The hike takes you out to what is known as, "The Bridge to Nowhere." The bridge was built back in the 30s, but it was forgotten after the road out to it washed away in a flood. Nowadays the bridge serves as a hiking destination and bungee jumping platform. There are several spots on the hike where you have to cross the river. In winter/spring, this often means wading through water up to your nose or over your head.

Looks like some awesome hikes - my wife and I just spent the week-end hiking some of the mountains here on the nearby Discovery Island group off Vancouver Island. Wish I had some pictures to show, but have not figured out how to do that yet - and I do not have a flickr account. Here is a good info link, in case any fellow hikers ever head up this way:

Hiked up to Annette Lake, near Snoqualmie Pass on Saturday. Burned 3,221 calories in 4 hrs 10 minutes. We have been socked in with fog in the low lands, so hiking up to sunshine just added enjoyment to my fall morning hike.

Yesterday we headed up to Greenwater and Echo Lakes. Beautiful fall hike. The journey round trip is 14 miles, however 2 miles before the last stop and turn around point I injured my leg, and felt it best to turn around. I still managed to get 9 1/4 in about 4 hours & 10 minutes, and burned 3124 calories. This is a perfect summer hike. The trail is completely canopied with trees.
Morning sun on Green River

Many foot bridges along the way

The weather was very cold, so driving long distance wasn't in the cards, but hiking was on the brain, so I returned to my little hidden gem of water falls 30 minutes from my home, that most locals don't know about. Not a soul around.
It was so cold my water froze about an inch at the top of my water bottle & my soft protein bar, was frozen solid.
We still managed to buck up & get a great 9.32 miles in, with over 1804 ft elevation gain.
Frozen Forest
Ice hanging from the rock wall along the trail
Frozen trail from the spray of the falls
Standing at the top of the falls
Standing at the bottom of the falls, on the frozen trail very dangerous

Thanks for sharing the pictures. That's one heck of a hike in the bitter cold temperatures.0

Mt Si is my winter workout mountain. I'm pretty sure I've posted it with fog, and snow. Today it was just icy slush, with a bitter cold breeze. Elevation gain was 3761 ft in 4 miles ,Total round trip 8.14 miles. I burned 4908 calories which is not the normal, but I have been down ill for a while and I' haven't been working out. So my average of making it to the summit by 2 hours and 15 minutes , was more like 2 hrs and 45 minutes. Which does not count the scramble after reaching the top
1/2 mile left to go, always love this spot.
Icy scramble.
Panoramic View from where I had lunch
Base of the Haystack, not recommended to climb it this time of year, many have died trying
And of course, no pictures would ever be worth sharing if I didn't include the sweetest hiking companion Baxter

Went snowshoeing in Devon ravine. Looks so different in the winter.
