I had three great days of hiking in Flagstaff, AZ week before last. It's just too hot to hike in Phoenix area right now. Unfortunately I sprained my ankle when I fell on the last day. Having to miss out on a backpack to Yosemite next week. My ankle is improving faster than I thought it might. I started the elliptical and the bike at the gym two days ago. Must be ready for a hike in the Alps mid August so I am doing everything I know to do. Any suggestions?

Yesterday I hiked with a group called Mt. Rainier & Beyond. We went to a Peak, named Mailbox Peak. All experienced hikers eventually make this a quest to sign their name on the mail box someone has inserted at the top. There really is no trail, and coming down is very dangerous, because of all the wet tree roots. Elevation gain is 4000 ft. in 2.5 miles. Yep....... straight up!

Just when I thought I was there. I came to the top of the rocks into a clearing, and to my surprise..........I had a long way to go!

Thanks for posting these - those tree roots are what made me turn around! Maybe I'll try again on the new trail...

My Mount Adams Attempt. The snow was too slushy, and I just could not get over this hump that was straight up & down. If I could have gotten up over it I know that I could have made the journey. Our camp was not far over the top of the hill. The plan was to get up in the morning & when the snow was frozen & summit by noon. I was just heart broken I couldn't do it.
It was still a gorgeous trip tho!

Here's some images of my Middle Sister climb from last weekend

    MiddleSisMoon.jpg
I hiked in and set up a high camp on Thursday evening around the 7000' level below Middle Sister.

    UpperMiddleSister.jpg
This shot was taken about 1000' below the summit of Middle Sister.

Taken from the summit of Middle Sister. South Sister is the close prominent peak.

I spotted this little clump of flowers above the 10,000' level close to the summit. It's amazing that anything can grow up in that environment.

A summit video can be found on my youtube site: http://youtu.be/n9_obeaLUB8

Sunday I went to Mount Townsend in the Olympic National Forest. This is my 3rd time up there, and I never get tired of it. The total elevation gain was over 3500 ft. and the total miles was 8.8 miles.

I've been hiking Bell Pass the last four days in preparation for the Tour du Mont Blanc which I will start in one week. It's been a little hairy trying to get my ankle healed from a sprain 7 weeks ago and get some training. Not near what I would have done if I hadn't had the injury. Bell Pass in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve near my home is a little over 7 miles round trip and is a good training hike. Beginning tomorrow I will carry my day pack for the next three days. My goal is to learn how to post pictures once I get finished with the Tour du Mont Blanc cause they should be beautiful. I return to the states 8/29 and hope to hike in Washington at least a few times before returning to Arizona 9/19. I've been so grateful that the morning temps have been a little better this week. I love seeing all your posts . . . inspiring to say the least.

Yesterday a friend and I hiked 13 miles in the Goat Rock Wilderness to check out camp sites, for my up coming backpacking trip this week. This has always been my favorite area to hike. Posting a video is much easier than to post pictures, plus I think it tells the story much better than a picture.

    Hope you enjoy

Yesterday, we hiked along the Wonderland Trail to Panhandle Gap in Mt. Rainier National Park. It was truly spectacular.

@HikerGirl - This was my longest hike yet (and one of my goals for this hiking season). By the time we got to the top of the gap, and after the trauma (to me anyway, lol) of getting over the last stretch of snow, I didn't have a lot left to go any higher. But I could see others heading up that way, and kind of, almost, wish I had. Definitely a magical place.

I love the photo of you at the top :-)

I took a couple of days off from work and did a 16 mile backpack trip back to the Goat Rocks Wilderness. We headed up to the Snowgrass flats and headed for the Pacific Crest Trail hoping to run into some through hikers (no luck) , so we pushed on to our next mission. GOATS we just find goats! Then a summer storm kicked in , and we only had another 1.5 miles to go, but we had already went 9 miles, I was beat, and wet! We found the perfect camp spot & grabbed it.

After the rain stopped. I surprised my friend with teaching her how to make pizza on the trail. It was soooo good, and after burning nearly 5000 calories, it was "GUILT FREE PIZZA" Made 4 personal sized pizza's

After dinner stroll, you have to be tough to keep up with that girl. UGGG I need older hiking friends. She kills me!

The hills have eyes, thousand of these creatures hiding in the rocks. Really cool, you could hear them whistle all day long.

Mission Accomplished! Goats we found goats !

No hiking story is every worth talking about if you don't include Baxter the Brave heart.

The sun went down, so we had to stop playing for the day. 3 a.m. a rain storm kicked in till daylight. Which pretty much ended climbing that ridge in the sunset in the morning, which was foggy and cold.

Last week a friend and I hiked the section of the Bruce Trail from "Halfway Log Dump" to "High Dump" in the Bruce Peninsula National Park in Ontario and camped there for two nights. It was spectacular! It's been quite awhile since I last did any hiking so it was a good full immersion back into it! The trail is 7.5 km and quite difficult most of the way through. It pushed me to just about max capacity on the way in, and the way out two days later was much easier.

My friends and I returned from our Tour du Mont Blanc hike a couple of weeks ago. We had a fabulous time and I'd recommend it to any serious hikers. The accommodations were fun and mostly pretty nice. Overall just wonderful to be able to hike with a day pack and know we had a bed and food at our stopping point. I put some of my photos on Photobucket, but haven't taken the time to try to figure out how to put them on this site. I hope I'm able to when I actually get home to Arizona in a week. I'm in Washington state now enjoying the beautiful weather, warm for here, but still good compared to Phoenix area.

I'm back from Kilimanjaro! It was such a raw, natural, beautiful adventure. I absolutely loved being out on that mountain for 6 days. The jet-lag has been tough, but I'm working on getting my pictures together to post soon. Can't wait to share the journey with all of you :)

My dog and I went up to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness at the Snoqualmie Pass area , in Washington State. 12 miles , with a calorie burn of 6207. What a day! I picked the right time to go. In another week, it will be too dangerous to make this journey. There are more lakes above Gem lake. I plan on going up in July after the snow melts and doing a multi day backpacking trip.
