I have been away from MFP and gaining weight for almost 2 years. Where does the time go?? Looking over your pics and posts I must say it is fantastic how many of you stay fixed on your goal of being healthy. Congratulations. But, I am wondering if there are others, like me, who are morbidly obese and a golden sneaker who are just starting this journey??(again)Would love/need to connect with you .

Hi folks - getting ready to run over to Whole Foods (well, not run but drive the car) so pick up a couple of weekend specials.

And no Anne, I don't see replies unless I specifically go back and down the newsfeed far enough to see your original post.

And hello Dottie - I hope you'll stick with us. No matter where we are the spectrum of health, weight, activity, and the like, we offer support to each other. Nice to meet you!!

  • LIN thanks for explanation. We are just about to go to the Organic Garage which is a cheaper version of whole foods. Anne

Happy Friday!! :D I have Robby today and he has been sleeping almost two hours so far so not sure how far I will get with this post. I am frustrated with myself because I gained two pounds since last Friday. I know it is from the veggie straws which has way to much salt. I know better than to buy them but with the stress of last week and Babe's son I turn to comfort food. Bad excuse and I wish you would holler at me. I start today with my full time job of watching Robby except for next Tuesday when I take Babe back to the doctor. Lisa's parents leave for Florida on Wednesday so they want to watch Robby on Tuesday to get as much loving as they can. <3

    Dottie, first let me say:
    1015758bdl1bosmta.gif
But even more important, please don't put yourself down and use adjectives like morbid. There are sneakers here who started out like you and have lost the weight of a person. Bob has lost 175 pounds and all from support of MFP, he will be happy to help guide you on your way. Barbie and Lin lost big weight and are maintaining there goals so it is possible with determination and will power. Please stick with us, record your food on the food diary and try to get a little exercise in each day even if it just walking around the house.
I myself have been on the merry go round of going up and down and even though I only have ten pounds to lose I know how you feel. Welcome.

Lin, glad you decided to drive instead of run to Whole Foods, much safer and warmer. I think a vacation for you would be a wonderful thing. Go some place warm and relax, who knows maybe even meet some stud or boy toy. lol

Buzz, great to hear Mike ate a good meal, maybe he will gain a few pounds. I would be happy to give him the ten I don't want. Your cursor sounds like it has a mind of it own, maybe go to your control panel and into devices to change your cursor or the speed.

sandi with an i, congratulations on a new pup, she sounds beautiful. As I sit at my dining table typing this I hear a dog howling outside, not sure what that is about.

Marie, so glad you found your fitbit, I would be lost without mine. I think as we age we think about too many other things and get absent minded, I can never find my reading glasses.

Phoebe, how does Honey like the truck, is she adjusting? Good luck with the knees, more shots??

Bob, photography, poems, now song lyrics, you are one talented man.

Shirley. you are doing amazing with your weight loss and determination, could you give me a kick in the butt and remind me about my cruise and wearing a SWIMSUIT???

Barbie, you are so right on moving, I don't know why I let stress get to me, I really try hard to let things go but sometimes I lose the battle. Now that I have Robby again, I will be more focused without so much free time, so sitting is a blessing in disguise.

Hi to Laura, Chris, Kaci and Jackie. Robby is still sleeping, what a great baby.
    Have a wonderful day.

After a busy few days doing mostly mundane chores I've finally caught up with all your posts but will have to keep this short because I have a mound of ironing to deal with. Collected my new car and sold my old 4X4 to the friend that has helped me deal with any mechanical issues over the past few years in order to keep it on the road so am now doing my best to not drive the Citroen as if it's a heavy truck! Swings and roundabouts with our weather, one minute glorious the next bleak but then it is January so what can I expect!

I won't be taking any communications technology with me on my week away in Snowdonia but will check back on you all when I get home some time next weekend so meanwhile stay committed to any weight loss and take care of yourselves. <3

  • Jackie, have a fun trip!
Hi Dottie, welcome back! It takes a village sometimes, we are here for you no matter what.
Lin, thanks for the soya essence tip, it is a great product.
Sandy, glad you and Robby are getting to know each other, is he going on your cruise?
Shirley, what a cute blanket, i love sock monkeys!

Im waiting for the call to pick up Honey. She has done very well in the truck. One mischievous cat insists that she accept him, she gets a bit miffed at him, but he doesn't seem to care. It's funny to watch. And Marie , oh my, she has certainly bonded with me. She will only let me get her in and out of the truck. She follows me at home. This morning at the vet she wouldn't leave me. She tucked her head into my knees and dug in. I had to go with her, lol.
I overslept, so I had to rush. Now if I dont move around, I'll be asleep again in a nano second.
vet just called, here I go again!

  • Hello everybody. Today was a good day. My eldest and I went out for lunch, picked up the groceries, and I treated myself to a Fitbit. He's set it up for me and I've discovered that when I do my half hour walk I do about 3500 steps. Dying to see if I make 10,000 when I wear it all day tomorrow just doing the chores as well as my usual walk. SANDY how long are you looking after baby Robby for? I mean long time. I looked after my youngest grandchild quite a lot when he was a toddler, and he was one active toddler. I don't think I could do it today. I would have been 59 in those days.
Anyway, take of yourself. It's lovely of you to worry about Babe, but you must take care of yourself first. Anne.

No Phoebe, Robby is not going on cruise. They went on one for their honeymoon and said it would be too hard with a six month old. Anne, I will be watching Robby 5 days a week with the exception of the days Lisa doesn't have school. She is a special needs pre school teacher and loves her kids. She will be off for Spring break and maybe a couple more. I will be 73 in March, but I am pretty active and once we can get outside it will be better. I practically raised his sister who is soon to be 20 and we are extremely close. This is my son's second marriage and they will probably have another baby or two. That is where I draw the line, one is all I can handle. Lol.

Robby slept three hours this morning and is sleeping over an hour so far this afternoon. If all the days are like this, it will be a piece of cake.

    Hi Sneakers

Welcome to Dottie, we have never talked on the Golden Sneakers but will help if you need us.
We are all here trying to talk off the pounds the best we can. Welcome back!

Sandy - You don't need a kick in the butt, you will figure this out. You only have 10 pounds to lose and you will do it. My trip is Feb 21st so I have to speed along to get this weight off. Good luck my friend you can do it!

Buzz - I didn't realize Mike was under weight. I am glad he enjoyed his meal. I wish I had that problem :p

Phoebe - It sounds like Honey is settling in. I don't think any dog likes the vet. How are your knees doing?

Marie - I am glad you finally found your Fit Bit. Now you can get back at it and see how you doing.

    Jackie - Enjoy your trip!

Sandi - A lovely poodle to play with. Enjoy!

Anne - Congrats on the Fit Bit, there are lot of people on this site that have one. Let us now how
    you like it.

Bob - I enjoy your poems and your stories. You are an asset to the group.

Tonight dinner with my MIL, Dave and our friend Tom.

    Enjoy your evening,

    Shirley

  • Lol Sandy, you can hope! Before you know it, he will be your helper, folding, and unfolding clothes, washing dishes, sound familiar?

Honey is home, had her dinner now she wants to nap. Me too, but dinner waits. Vegetables tonight.
    Phoebe
  • Sounds as if Honey is one very grateful dog PHOEBE. She will be very loyal and watch out for you I think.
Hi DOTTIE, nice to "meet" you.
I think I will like the Fitbit SHIRLEY. I'm a very short and light sleeper, so that will be interesting to see if I'm getting enough. I seem to exist on 6 hours, but my estimation might turn out to be off.
JACKIE, have a lovely, lovely trip to Snowdonia. GREEN with envy and I'm looking forward to you getting back and telling us all about it.
Hope the stress and exhaustion of the past days is receding LIN. Take care.
Glad you found your Fitbit MARIE.
Hi, everybody else, hope you are having an enjoyable evening. I still love Friday evenings the best, since my work days.

    Hello Everyone,

I'm know I've been missing in action. I've quickly read most of the posts but didn't have much time to reply.

Ed and I have been busy looking at buying new couches and a love seat for our house. I'm small, 4' 11", so it is difficult for me to fit most of them. My feet either dangle or stick out way out front like a little kid. We've had a couple we thought might be good but when we bring home samples and dimensions then we rule them out. Gee.

Tomorrow we go out again. At least I've been getting in lots of steps in and still walking on the treadmill when I get home.

Hugs to all and I'll catch up sooner or later,

    Jeri

Welcome back, DOTTIE; you are definitely not "alone"! So many here to share their wisdom,...or rewards and failures, but we all help and care about one another in special ways!
ANNE, I wish we had an Organic Garage nearby. Whole Foods is ridiculously costly! But good!
SANDY, (holler, holler, holler!) There, do you feel hollered at? I will almost guarantee your 2 pounds will slide off quickly, and comfort food may be exactly what calms down the craziness from Babe's family which makes you the butt of their dysfunction! I don't know how you do it, but I definitely know how attractive and slim (oh yes you are!) you are. My nutty cursor is behaving tonight, for some reason.
JACKIE, loads of luck with your new Citroen! I can't believe you have one, since I can't remember the last time I saw one in the States! Glad to read you are leaving all the Smartstuff behind while in Snowdonia. Vacations have stopped being a relaxation any longer!
PHOEBE, you have a magical way with all living species! Love your posts! And you!!!
SHIRLEY, hope dinner was lovely! Yes Mike has lost at least 25 pounds in the last few months. Endo specialists and neurologists on the docket for next week and I hope they succeed in building his appetite again!
JERI, how does such a tiny lady , accomplice so much? I always pictured you being around 5'3", but you are the same height as my dear Mom!
Need my sleep now, so forgive me BOB, BARBIE, and others whom I appeared to neglect, cause I ran out of space and time!

:D Just a quick greeting. Jake is headed off to an all day meeting with a friend. He gets to take the ferry. I have an early meeting so the dogs will get a shorter than usual walk, but I'll be here alone with them all day so we'll get some extra walking then.

    <3 Barbie
  • - BUZZ- yes I'm very grateful for the OG. It's not a "posh" store like whole foods, but I find the green produce stays quite fresh and lasts the entire week. I've been eating organic for years. I find also they are sometimes a bit cheaper than the regular stores. We are told in Canada, that with the worsening Canadian dollar, to expect our food prices to go up in 6 months time. Wonder if our pensions will go up to match, somehow I doubt it! Good news that your Mike is eating better.
    - JERI, so much fun looking for new couches.
    Anne.

Good day - we don't have an OG here but I like organics (not all items but as many as I can afford) so I shop primarily at Trader Joes and fill in the blanks at Costco and Whole Foods. I wish our growing season was longer--I belong to an organic CSA in the summer but it just does not last long enough! I did get my bargains and some non-bargains. I cannot resist organic Honeycrisp apples even at WF prices! Guilty pleasure. I've cooked some veggies and have the ingredients measured to make flaxeed/sesame crackers but will start them later as I don't really want the smell of the baking in here right now (yep, makes me hungry)!

Happy and successful shopping Jeri. I have the opposite issue Jeri---you are 4'11" and I am 5'11" and nothing is TALL enough for me.

Barbie - enjoy your walking day and I'm sure you'll be pleased when Jake returns. I'll be walking about the house again today. I tend to get 10,000 - 12,000 steps each day in my house/shopping and 10 - 30 flights of stairs. Which is chump change compared to the way you spend your days. I just hope I'm getting enough to keep/improve my health.

Anne - how did your Fitbit turn out yesterday? I like my Fitbit and I am kind of obsessive about keeping it on all the time. I think our food prices are set to rise as well. Oh well, I won't worry about it.

Shirley - I have to say again, you are so kind in your care of other people. Your family and friends have a treasure in their midst.

Buzz - I am praying for better health for Mike and for you. I guess I can only send long-distance hugs but I do think of you each day. A pipe dream of mine would be to travel about and meet my good Sneaker friends and several other friends on MFP who are not a part of this group. It's good to have a pipe dream yes?

Phoebe - I am glad you are finding the soya essence helpful. It has been a great for my tootsies! And I am using the un petroleum jelly each day and my dry nose is better. Wahoo! I agree with others here, you are an animal whisperer. I smile when I think of your and your animals.

Marie - are you getting new pictures of your great grandson? Are you working on a project these days? I hope your blood sugars are under control and that you are feeling okay.

Sandy - I am glad Robby had a nice napping type of day yesterday and that you were able to ride your bike. I'm still thinking about that. I sort of think I would like something like a Wii system and some exercise games. Anyone have one??

Dottie - are you still with us? I hope so and hope to hear from you soon.

Sandi - a new puppy!!!! Oh how wonderful. I am so happy for you.

Gayla - are you out there? Thinking of you.

Chris - I hope all is well in your world!

Bob - are you here today??

Diane, Phyllis Kacierra, Karen, and everyone I've missed
    HUGS!

Happy Saturday!! :D They are coming to install new intercoms today which means our new entry door should also be installed soon. The one we have now bangs to shut and they said the new one will be quiet. All four occupants had to be home for them to do this and if not the owner gets fined $250. Sure glad they didn't do it while I was cruising.
Bryanna's mother stood me up last night. She had texted me during the day to ask if she could come see my new place and would be here around 7. She never showed and I was not a happy camper as I had changed, put on makeup and did my hair so I would look presentable. I texted her around 8 and asked if she got hung up and maybe a raincheck?
She never answered me and Bryanna said she got home around 9 so I have no idea what happened.
Today we are taking Robby for his six month pictures, Lisa's mom will be with us and we will probably get something to eat when done. We will do it again at 9 months and then his first year. Just a custom we did in our family and Lisa is kind enough to go along with me.

Lin, I do have the Wii system and used to use it all the time. I did love it when I did and maybe it is something I should start again along with the bike. It has great ways to exercise and do yoga along with playing games that also burn calories. Yep, you talked me into it, I am going to start today. Maybe I will try that instead of the 30 day shred I was going to start on Monday or both might be an option.

Buzz, thanks for the "holler" but I went and ate those darn veggie straws again last night.
I can't bear to throw them out but will definitely not be buying them again. Even though they are low in calories the darn salt is messing with my weight loss.

Jeri, you are just a tiny little minute aren't you? My son is very tall as well as Lisa and they bought couches for their heights. When I sit back on their couch my feet also stick out like your described. You reminded me of the girl on Laugh In who used to sit on the big rocking chair, remember????

Shirley, thanks for the pep talk, I hope it works. You are doing wonderful and will have no problem being ready on Feb 22. We leave Feb 28 so I only have one extra week. I would be happy with 5 pounds but 10 would be wonderful.

    Everyone have a wonderful day.

    Sandy

  • LIN, I've only had the Fitbit one day and I already love it! It's just sent a message telling me I am only 2000 steps from my goal of 10,000 for the day. That's after 2 half hour ambles and housework and washing. Amazing. It means after I've ironed I can put my feet up for the afternoon with a crime novel I also bought. My weakness, crime novels. Anne

Yes "Lin in Central Iowa" I am here. Its been a busy Saturday and I checked in on my home page but didn't have time to get to any groups - except to take a quick peek.

Tonight is a church dinner / dance. First time in many years I wouldn't rather have been sick. In recent years, I hated getting dressed and looking in the mirror - and then trying to block out the fact that I was super uncomfortable and horrendously out of shape.

So for the first time in ages - new suit (5 sizes smaller than my last) ready to go; shoes polished; new 16 1/2 inch shirt (that replaced my largest 21-22") also ready. Saved and burned enough calories to "keep me safe" and highly doubt I'll exceed my target range. I am aware I "could" easily enjoy a bit more food - but this is not the time I want to do that -- as I said before - I have other plans before the winter ends (LOL).

Hope you (and everyone else) are having a wonderful weekend! Bob :D

Well another cloudy day and the dampness is going through my bones. It is freezing rain outside now. Our plan tomorrow is going skiing, I hope the weather is decent.

Today was a trip to Walmart replacing our electric kettle which decided not to work anymore and a new blender because ours was leaking oil. So two new additions to the kitchen. :)

I am still working on my recipe binders and added two new recipes from Marie's 20 pounds to Easter challenge. One was a breakfast idea and another an appetizer which I am always looking for our boat cruise parties.

Ahhh, Spring is in the air. Not here but in my mind B) The stores are already putting their Spring products on the shelves.

Have a great day and think SPRING!

Hi to each of you from sunny Saskatchewan. Once again I am apologizing for not being around. Our sweet Owen has been so sick with strep throat and pink eye. Dave and I have been looking after him during the day so his parents could go to work. It was hard to see him so uncomfortable. We did get lots of cuddles and now his parents and I all have sore throats and a cough. Sasha had a throat swab done Friday but likely won't hear results until Monday. If I am not getting better by Monday I will go to the Dr. Not sure how Dave has avoided it as Owen sat on his knee quite a bit.

I have played a few games but otherwise have not been on the computer. I have, however, thought about you folks and hope you are all well.

Take care and keep smiling! Gayla

Happy Sunday!! :D We are getting a little snow but mostly just like snow showers. Hopefully the driving to Church will be okay. Talked to Babe briefly to find out the antibiotic doesn't seem to be working for his sinus infection and he thinks the tooth next to the root canal they are fixing on Wednesday is infected. He always has such good news.

On a happier note, we took Robby for his 6 month pictures, look how cute he is. Of course I am a little biased but he makes me smile.
    amewjutcm1g8.jpg

Gayla, so nice to hear from you, but sorry to hear Owen is sick as well as the rest of you. It is so hard when kids are sick but I know he is getting all the loving he needs from grandma and grandpa. I pray you all get well soon.

Lin, I set up my Wii last night and can't wait to get started on it today. Thanks for reminding me I have one, I did lose most of my weight from using it when I first started MFP.

Not a lot of time on Sunday mornings so have a wonderful day everyone.

Sandy -- those photos are awesome! What a smile!!! Looks like he is ready for a workout... Curious - what will you be doing on Wii? I must admit, I am not up-to-date on video games and exactly what various age groups are using them for.

Anne - love the new name -- LOL

Attended a Church Dinner Dance last night and was able to remain within target for daily calories. Skipped the rolls, no dessert and gave my white rice to someone else. I only ate the breaded baked chicken (3-4 oz.) and a chopped broccoli concoction (I was told how it was made and it only contained lemon juice etc. – no cream, cheese etc.). Got home & had a bit of popcorn & Fiber Bar.

Happy Sunday to all -- off to a Sunday family gathering. Bob
  • Hi, I appear to have really made a mess of things, what's new! I can't get into the group easily as I did before, I have to go the long way round. Any ideas? I've got Sandy back as a friend though.
