Hi everyone. Is it okay that I join this group? A friend suggested it, and I was hoping it would be a place I could post too. Have a great day everyone!0

Cindy and Linda - hi!
My select 10 came today. Between that and all the SS food I have here I'm running out of excuses not to get back on the wagon.
This morning was our annual client seminar which starts MUCH too early so I'm dragging. I usually put my email on vacation setting on Fridays. Hopefully I'll have a chance tomorrow to get out and stock up on fruits, vegetables and such!

Katherine--It is definitely okay for you to join and post! We look forward to having you chat with us!!
Linda--I'm on the old Costco 35 day program which I use to flex. I just get an order every 3 or 4 months. I just delayed mine until August.
Maryanne--Now, that you have all that great food on hand along with the fresh veggies, etc., we look forward to your continued success.
Pam--Your picture is now your avatar at the Refugee site.
I just went and had a shot to help me ward off all kinds of nasty things because of my immune and health problems. Now, watch me get sick!0 -
Jean, thanks so much for putting my picture on the other site for me. I'd ask you how you got it to work, but I'm sure it would not enlighten me any more since I'm not that technology savvy. I really do appreciate the help!
I've had a nice day. Went to the gym this morning then went and had a pedicure with a friend this afternoon. The place where we went is new and very nice, and it was next door to a newish grocery store that is known for having really good produce. After we finished our pedicures we went next door and picked up a few things for dinner and other treats. I seldom stop at this store as it is a little distant from me, but I may try to go more often as I really liked some of the things they offer that other stores don't seem to carry. There is also a Trader Joes near me now that opened recently that I need to check out. I've never been in one before, but I know many people love them. They are only recently expanding into our area.
Welcome to the new faces joining us. It's nice to have some new voices and faces on the thread!0 -
Pam, I just followed their instructions but it isn't as easy as some sites. I thought I would surprise you with getting it done earlier than expected. Glad you are finding more healthy options available for your fresh food shopping. We don't have those in our area.0

I'm off to work for the final day this week of subbing in the chemistry and physics classes. The teacher will be back next week. It has been a good assignment but also a tiring one coming right after the trip. This will be a sad weekend as we spend the last days on the old NS discussion boards. It looks as if I'll be ten short of getting enough clicks in to get another $10 off coupon for the Daily Dose.0

The "new math" for weight loss--from a Linda Spangle email.
I frequently hear people say that they work “so hard” all day, and then undo
all of their efforts every night. One of my colleagues used
to refer to this as “diet mornings and pig-out evenings!”
While you may not be able to conquer this pattern overnight,
here are three steps that will help you start to change your
routine.
1. Follow the “new math” for weight loss
To make consistent progress with any weight-loss plan, you
need to be on your program 95% of the time. If you do the
math, this means staying on track 19 out of 20 days!
Rather than assume you have to be perfect for a year, set a
goal of 19 days on your plan. Track it, monitor it, and push
hard to accomplish it.
Anytime you have a day that’s not quite on program, just
assume it’s one of your 20 days. But that’s the only break
you get. If you have more than one out of 20 days off your
plan, you’re decreasing your odds for success.
Mark your progress on a calendar and push for 19 days in a
row. When you reach that point, you can either start
counting again or choose to have one slightly relaxed day,
then start a new 20-day run.

Well, I am happy to say that I tried on a pair of pants that I was not able to fit in six months ago and they fit. Ok, so I have a muffin top but at least I am able to pull them up and zipper them! Progress! I hope everyone has a wonderful day!0

WAY TO GO!!!!!0 -
The printer called. The newsletter is ready. So I guess I'll mentally rearrange the next couple days to get that picked up, counted out into boxes (I SO hate that; just cause it's boring) and ready for volunteers to pick up.
I am SO tired! This illness has zapped my energy. I think the cold is gone so I'm just left with the allergies. I'm seeing better. The floaters are still there but I think my brain is adapting. The cough is better. I made it through the first three of my four presentations at the client seminar without having to stop and apologize for my voice (of course I went with a pocket FULL of cough drops.)
This morning my legs felt terrible and for a minute I couldn't think why. Then I realized I stood up during much of the client seminar yesterday. Guess that was enough. Jeesh!!
My Select 10 came yesterday and it doesn't fill up as much freezer space as I was worried it might. I think I might do one frozen NS day a week. You know me and my themes...

I delayed my NS order by a few days. I have a lot of food left over. I certainly haven't been one hundred percent on program this month.0

Hope your legs feel better mdubbs1.

I never made it online yesterday. None of my links worked and I was getting a weird error message. I ran a scan and went to bed. My Wednesday exercise consisted of many, many trips up and down a flight of stairs packing the car for the trip home. It must have been mid 80s and pretty humid. My knee and back were complaining during the last half of the trips. we thought we'd leave around noon but it was late afternoon before we had the house cleaned up and everything packed. We arrived in Jacksonville at midnight. We got to figure out a better way for next year. we alwyas think we'll be packed earlier but it doesn't seem to work out that way.0

I've lost 42 pounds since I started NS last June, now hovering close to goal. I am finding the changeover to MFP confusing and a little overwhelming, glad to find an exchange point to help keep me focused on staying on program. I find the tracking tools here on MFP good for the most part (FitBit linking didn't work out well for me), will need to build habits of checking in daily like I did on the retiring NS site.
Going to the fitness center for at least a brief 30 minute workout--better than none!

I started digging around and realized I had signed up over 8 years ago. Guess I never used it much. Is this group about Nutrisystem?

I upgraded to the Uniquely Yours. Now I have SS Food that I want to give to the dog. To bad they have expiration dates. I could spread them....waaay out.

Amy...The core group here had been together on one of the NS threads that Jean has been organizing. When NS announced the Boards were closing, Jean set this up similar to what we were doing on that Board. Anyone is welcome to join in. we're here to support each other. Jean sets it up quarterly and we choose our own goal and exercise for the quarter. We post periodic progress reports, gain, how often you post results is up to you. we chat about things going on in our lives just as face to face friends do. Some people post the food choices and or calorie counts they had that day. It's pretty flexible what you choose to include. I hope this explanation helps.0

Amy--I am one of those who has always used shelf stable food. I am on the Costco 35 day program so I get 35 days of food in my BBB. I flex so I get an order every 3 or 4 months. I order the items I like and it works for me. I don't have much freezer space so if I want a frozen item, I will go the Lean Cuisine route for it, such as the individual pizzas.
Most of us came to these boards via Nutrisystem but we have people who do not order NS any more. They use the dieting strategies in food selection that NS taught. My original NS order was through QVC's Weekends Off Program which did a fantastic job of teaching people how to eat food out and about or in their own home that met the same or close criteria of the NS program. NS and its food is one tool for losing weight. If someone wants to join who does not use NS, I think we owe it to ourselves and the individual/s to provide a place where we can share and support each other.0 -
Earlier, I posted the first step I staying on program or plan from the info provided by Linda Spangle. This is the 2nd step:
2. Do more self-care
Look at all the places during your day where you can slip in
a little self-care activity. Sometimes that’s all it takes
to keep from being so exhausted by late afternoon.
Janice is a computer specialist who gets so engrossed in her
work that she often sits for three to four hours without
taking a break. Then her eyes are tired, her back hurts, and
she starts craving a candy bar to give her some quick
energy.
Eventually, she realized her long periods without breaks
were adding to the problem. So she found a way to set a
timer on her computer to go off hourly. Now, once an hour,
she gets up, walks around, stretches a bit, and drinks some
water. Her new system has completely changed her patterns,
and helped her come home a lot less tired.
Why is this important? Exhaustion sometimes leads to our not thinking clearly. It also leads to cravings for items to make us feel better. Water? Sometimes what we think is hunger is nothing more than our body saying it is dehydrated and needs more water. In this case, we confuse thirst with a false hunger. Coming home tired? We may not want to fix something healthy or even an NS meal; it is so tempting to go through the carry out, etc. Eating small meals frequently can keep the energy level up and keep the blood sugar level from dropping.0 -

I think it is about five or six weeks to the cardiac ablation so I've spent some time this evening doing more reading on it.0 -
Just checking my email before going to bed. I'm celebrating 5 years with NS this month. In all these years, the only emails I've gotten from NS have been when my order shipped, etc. Suddenly the past two weeks, I've received more emails from NS than all the years combined. I got an "ice cream" one today.0

My back is protesting this morning. I still plan to go to the city as I want to do something fun. It would be easier if I didn't have to spend 3 hours round trip on the road.
Quaker Weight Control oatmeal with fruit for breakfast. If I go to the city, I'd like to have a nice meal out but it will be a good choice.0 -
Thanks for sharing the spaghetti squash video clip. I've microwaved it before but never tried oven roasting it. That looks interesting. I've served it with marinara sauce but I've also tried a little butter and cinnamon on it if I want to use it as a veggie rather than a pasta like dish. Either way is pretty good.0

Greetings! My name is Elaina and I am an NS refugee. Thanks to Helene for providing the link info to join this thread. I didn't want to loose the support that we had going in the NS discussion groups. I'm currently stuck in a plateau mode, but will not give up as I know this is par for some people. Got some good tips from Liz ( you should meet her soon) along with what I know I need to change and wrote them all down on paper. I plan to refer to it daily to make sure I'm doing one or more of the things on my list.
I look forward to meeting new people here and maintaining e-friendships with other NS refugees.0 -
Hi Elaina, glad you found this spot too. Where oh where is Liz?
I just dropped a bit off a plateau of a few weeks. I went through a terrible time not sticking to program, in particular with night time compulsive snacking. I've done a lot better this week and stepped up exercise, but I think extra water and enjoying good weather helped a lot.

Elaina and Linda--Welcome to the group. We look forward to your sharing great info with us. In addition to talking about our diet, etc., we often talk about other things. I'm retired but work part-time as a substitute teacher. I'm 56 pounds lower than my highest weight. I have an approach to weight loss that works for me in that I actively try to lose and then I will take a period in which I try to maintain that loss before beginning to lose again. At my age, the skin does not shrink so I'm also being careful about that. I'm a bladder cancer patient who just had surgery to remove it but will have to go back in three months for another check to see if it is returning. I am also scheduled for a cardiac ablation in June. Right now, while this is going on I'm not overly gung ho about losing weight, as I'm focused more on the other issues.0
