The time limit is 4 hours though...you could walk most of it and still make that time!

ran 5.2 miles this morning. it was rough. still recovering but I feel well enough to hit the pavement. I'm hoping to get to a solid 11:00ish pace. I was close before i got sick. I figure with all the hills on my routes, I'll be in good shape to for a faster pace on the flat route of the turkey trot. but reality is if i get around 12:00 I'll still feel good about it.

I'm looking forward to increasing distance too. i know I'll be slower but that's to be expected

    Well done @JSC145
I signed up for the charity miles app...three runs this week for charity :) All 3 were short runs 2 to 4 miles, but was happy to see that my 'easy pace' has improved to 12.5 mins per mile.

Thanks @samra338 Did you end up doing that 10k you were thinking about signing up for awhile back?

As for me, still recovering from Sat. I thought I was fine today but then realized I was having a tough time going down a flight of stairs. I actually contemplated taking the elevator down which is a pet peeve of mine.

The fun part has been trying to figure out what to do next. I'll be in NY during the holidays... maybe I'll sign up for something then.

What website do people use to find races in different places?

@JSC145 Running in the USA has a pretty comprehensive list and you can search by state.

Ran 3 miles this morning. I intended for it to be an easy run, but I was so annoyed with various people/situations in my life that I took it out on the pavement and ended up averaging 9:30 minutes/mile pace (Runkeeper says that is 48 seconds faster than my "usual"). Tomorrow I'm supposed to run 2 miles at the same pace I plan to use for my HM on Sunday, so I'll need to dial it back by about a minute/mile.

Hi all, I'm new to this group and new to groups in general. Thanks to LLduds for inviting me here. Am doing a half marathon trainer, after finishing a 10K trainer. Looking through your posts, you all are doing great!

Is it ok to run a few days In a row at this point if I feel ok?
I'd say you're probably ok to do 4 days running a week, with 1 double up, if you go more than 2 days in a row, you'll need to be hyper vigilant for niggles etc.

@JSC145 Congratulations and wicked Bling! Take your time to recover. For people running HM's and FM's, conventional wisdom is up to 1 day off for every mile raced. Seeing as it was your first HM, you can probably class all of it as race, so don't stress if you take a week, or even two off to recover.

@rebeccatherine Welcome! :) Not that I've ever experienced snow/ice, but if you can afford the right equipment, short of a blizzard or electrical storms, Tornadoes etc, there isn't much you can't or shouldn't run in.

@moyer566 Glad you're on the mend. Regular hill running will help your pace for a flat run, especially in a race environment.

@maggiekat7 I can't remember the last time I had a month off. I do remember how much my first run back sucked after 9 days off though. Good on ya for dusting the pride off and planning to keep getting out there. While things are hectic, maybe just grab runs when you can, even if it's only 20 or 30 minutes. Just try to avoid too much doubling up :)

@LLduds Glad to see you've pulled the finger out and gotten going again! :P Anger runs can be interesting, sometimes I wish I could call upon that motivation at will. Definitely dial back for your next run, and good luck on your HM!

@kimadm4 Welcome :) Don't forget to update on your progress, and don't hesitate to ask questions either.

Ok, so my update now.... lets see.
Friday was a short 2k jog with the dog. I was just feeling flat and didn't want to bank many more miles before Sunday. Saturday I ended up being a marshal at parkrun, and then a 10k or so fairly lazy trail run, so scope out where I'll be marshalling this weekend, and ensure I can get there with my car.
Sunday.... my 6hr race, and probably the best gauge I have for my upcoming 100k. My plan was to try and hold 5:40min/km until I couldn't and see where I was.
The day didn't start as well as I would have liked, with me smacking my knee quite hard into the bedpost when I first got up. Muttering, swearing and cursing done, I got dressed, packed everything together and loaded the car. Quick stop by the servo for some ice to go in the esky and I was away. Got to the race grounds with good time, set myself up under a friends marquee and did some socialising.
Then the race was off, I made sure I didn't start at the front of the pack, or go off with a stupid surge. Considering only a few people passed me in the first lap, I self seeded pretty well. Picked up 1 friend on the first lap, we chatted and decided to run together as our pace targets were similar, maybe the first lap, or possibly the second, picked up another friend and what do ya know, I was driving a pace bus. Pacing wasn't perfect, as I lost time every 2.5k with stops at the aid station, so there was some faster work to bring the pace back down, but on average I kept my target pace. The bus stayed together for a good 20-25k until my first friend dropped off the back, another lap or two and I lost my other passenger, but I did get him to a 30k pb. 3hrs rolled around, and I was still moving nicely, my previous passengers were now resting and recovering, having been in the 3hr event. Around 38/40k my stomach started to turn on me, and by 42k I was reduced to walking. I could run in short bursts, but it made me feel nauseous and my stomach cramp. From then on, it was mostly power walking, with the occasional jog. Unfortunately due to the stomach issues, it also meant that for the last 2 hrs, I ate and drank bugger all. I think I would honestly have been lucky to drink 2L of fluid for the entire race.
Still if my stomach hadn't turned, I think I would have made over 60k. As it is, official distance of 54.499, and Garmin distance of 56.6k.
    Very happy with that.

that's nice @LLduds my work is still open :(

rest day and boy does my body need it. I did 45 min of yin/restorative yoga this morning and plan on doing an hour or aerial restorative yoga tonight. My quads are killing me and my back is sore from all the sniffing and coughing.

Does anyone else have trouble running on the treadmill? I attempted to do Week10 Day 2 last night, and had a horrible time of it. I have only tried to run on the treadmill twice, and both times have been terrible. It was really ugly outside last night, so I went tothe gym and gave it a stab. Needless to say, I am goign to repeat Day 2 tomorrow and aim for better results. I managaed to run for two of the three sets but felt dizzy and off balance the whole time. Anyone else have this issue?

    @KRPolo
I've ran on a treadmill a total of twice since I have learnt to run. I'll be happy if it stays at that number. Although if I have a chance for another VO2max test, I'll take it. Treadmill just doesn't feel quite right for me. I don't feel dizzy, but trying to get the right speed sucks.

Thanks @moyer566 I'm very happy with how I went, some of the other guys out there though.... holy carp! The winner did 70k in the 6hrs..... I'm both fortunate and unfortunate enough to run with some of the best in the state at these events.
Enjoy your rest and hope you're over your cold soon.

@taeliesyn Thanks! We've been lucky this fall as we usually have snow by now. I don't have much winter running gear since I only started running this summer, so I may be making some purchases really soon. Otherwise I may end up on the dreadmill, blech. Also, running over 50K is massively impressive. Great job!

Went for a run last night. First half felt great, second half felt slow and low energy. I went right after work, so the low energy could be because I hadn't eaten anything since lunch. I also kept having to stop for red lights (I live in the city, it's unavoidable without driving somewhere else to run) which ruined my flow and mental space.

@taeliesyn - Good job! How long is a "lap" on your race? It seems like it would get really boring running around in a circle for 6 hours....I hope it's at least a big circle :) I can't imagine running that long and not having my stomach turn!!

I've used the treadmill to run a mile or 2 as a warm-up at the gym before I lift weights. It was surprisingly "OK", but I did feel a little off balance at times. Since I live in south Texas, I rarely need to actually use a treadmill due to weather.

@rebeccatherine If snow etc is a regular thing for you, then proper winter gear is almost a necessity, especially as you're not one that loves the dreadmill.
Yeah having the run flow interrupted can really mess with things. Not having eaten since lunch could also have an effect.

@LLduds the course was 2.5km. Actually quite a nice size for a loop race, as you passed the aid station often, including your private one if you had one set up. The 12hr event I did earlier this year was on an athletics track, so 400m laps (or there about). Surprisingly I don't find the lap races too bad or all that mentally boring. No way I could do that sort of loop for training runs though.

    Welcome @rebeccatherine and @kimadm4
@JSC145 No, I didn't do it...several reasons..my PF was really troubling me at that time and I wasn't confident of running a 10k...I still run less than 5 miles, mostly due to time constraints..my runs are typically between 2 and 4 miles.
@taeliesyn Impressive as always! 55 k is no joke! Nowadays, I run around the park twice. The course is 1.5 miles and it lies adjacent to a 1 mile marked path.

Did 3.5 miles today. Thinking of doing the B210K again to build up distance.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome! There was illness in my family which kept me from running for one month. I was at week three day three of 21k trainer. @LLduds and others recommended doing some easy runs this week to restart. So far I've done two 5ks this week. Majorly sore quads and inner thighs! Is that muscle atrophy in one month?! Scary! Also I'll want to hear what cold weather gear you all recommend--this will be the first winter I am determined to run outside. Never heard of "dreadmill " before visiting this thread, but boy does that sum it up! Thanks!!!

@samra338 PF? is that plantar fasciitis? I had a touch of that about a month ago. I've been using these

    http://www.amazon.com/Plantar-Fasciitis-Therapy-Wrap-Support/dp/B00ZIVC2V6/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1447344332&sr=1-4&keywords=plantar+fasciitis

Maybe it's just psychological but I really feel like it made a huge difference.

I'm curious about winter weather gear too. I tried the treadmill a few times this summer when it was too hot and humid to be outside... blech.

Still resting from the half marathon but I'm feeling good. I may test the waters tomorrow morning with a short jog.

@JSC145 you can use this to help you get close to what you should wear in winter. well, actually, all year round.
    what to wear
It's a good starting point and then you can adjust to personal comfort from there
