Good morning, all -- and a VERY happy birthday to Karla!

Vikki, I do occasionally get sinus issues (I take OTC meds at the first sign of trouble) but had never thought of it as possibly related to the Hashimoto's. Certainly a possibility. Right now I'm a science project as the my microscopic radioactive ninja assassins kill off the remaining cancer cells. Please listen to your body while you recover.

Stayed on plan yesterday -- just made it under target with late snack of almonds -- needed some more fats (I am consistently under there). The concert was amazing and I got to meet Ann Hampton Callaway after -- and she sang "diva blessings" at me. And today I feel fully human again so I think the whatever-I-had has passed.

MYRA, PLEASE KEEP MY MINI-GOAL THE SAME.

I'm sitting here with my granddaughter who is chattering away at something she drew; what a wonderful sound! I just have a quick minute before we go get ready for church.
Vikki- I don't really know anything about your disease but I do know cardio gets excess mucous in the system moving...usually a good thing. I wonder if that plays a part in the problems you are having?

Suzi: Glad your Jessie is feeling better and so sorry to hear that she struggles with depression. I don't have a lot of experience in that dept, but I will surely say a prayer for her.

Patti: I am super impressed by your workout regimen and dedication. 5-6 one hour workouts a week and 30 minute weekend workouts. That's just impressive! You are a machine! I love to hear about the relationship you have with your mother. It sounds so sweet. I do not have a great relationship with my mother and it is nice to see what "normal" looks like. Reading thru...I hate when I eat something that I "think" I really want and it's a total let down and a waste of calories! I agree, it's a good point that maybe your body doesn't want those things anymore. Thanks for the reminder that the gym is closed on MLK day tomorrow, I am sure ours is too. I prob would have showed up there to workout.

Bert: Hi there! I haven't gotten to really say that yet to you and I apologize. It sounds like you are recovering from an orthopedic type surgery, but it sounds like you are doing really well at home recovering and have a supportive husband. Praying for a speedy and complete recovery for you and that you have a wonderful outcome from your surgery.

MaryLynn: SO happy you got your workout equipment and you and your husband can do this together. I think it's awesome that you all support each other the way that you do and encourage one another. That is so sweet and how a marriage should be. Congrats on your weight loss! Such a good loss and you have certainly earned it with your dedicated workouts. Great job.

Myra: I find that I mostly want to snack if I'm watching television. There's just something about it that makes me want to munch. Thank goodness I don't watch much television! My thing is I cannot go to bed hungry. I save calories at the end of the day for a rice pudding cup to eat right before bed, so that I'm not hungry. Can't sleep with a rumbly tumbly :/ I have the same philosophy as you when I have a few bad days eating, every day is a new day and a new start, so I don't beat myself up. I'm trying and that's progress.

Detour: (how funny, Janet, scrolling down and commenting as I read and saw you made the same Winnie the Pooh quote! I like you! And seems we have some things in common, both good and bad ;)

Diane: Wow, cannot imagine working the hours you do! I hope you are off on the weekends and are able to rest.

Jeanette: So glad you are liking the group so far, glad you are here. I hope you enjoy your little granddaughter this weekend. The "two's" are a precious age...well, to be honest, I just think little ones at any age are so precious! So innocent and sweet. Adorable!

Karla: Happy Birthday! a hot stone pedicure sounds SO nice... Lucky you! Way to be kind to yourself! I bought myself a new outfit and just got it in the mail, so pretty and I am looking forward to wearing it now that I have trimmed down. Romantic little Boho shirt :) Love the pic you shared...so cute.

Tracy: a warm welcome to you! It's amazing how MFP makes you so aware of how much you are eating. It has been so eye opening to me. For short term goals maybe look at the weekly mini goal page and see what others are posting?

Cindy: Sounds like you are going to try some workout DVD's? Hope you like them! Sounds like you are really busy with work. The short workouts might really be perfect for you. I have a 15 minute strength training DVD that I always have to fall back on for a quick workout at home.

Hope you all have a relaxing Sunday, I plan too ;)

Thanks so much Patti, Yep, this is exactly what I have learned thru research over the years. May not be any way around it, just with the nature of the disease, but I am always trying to find something to boost my immune system to keep this recurrent virus at bay. Not giving up! Thanks Janet and Jeanette :)

I have a question, I have been getting messages from some of you in response to my posts. I don't see them here, just in my email. How do you do that? I love getting the words of encouragement but can't figure out how to respond in kind.
    Patti

Patti - go to your profile. you can see all of the posts that MFP has made on your behalf (lost 1.1 pounds! burned 500 calories doing TRX) after you have logged an activity. You can also see when friends have commented. We see these posts when we go to our home page and the news feed shows what our friends are doing. You can also comment/reply from there.

Hi ladies- yesterday was a little busy and I picked up my new glasses and having a hard time seeing they are so different than contacts and the girl suggested I wear them yesterday and today to adjust before switching back and forth between them. So today I'm in glasses.
Clean eating update. Spent some time at the grocery store and discovered some name brands have a lot of chemicals added while generic do not- I made a clean black bean chili this morning, well almost the Goya beans had junk in them while the generic were just beans and water- I did buy organic produce, but a small amount as not to waste. This may mean a couple of trips for veggies and fruits but we shall see. Interesting- I spent the week eating clean and full fat milk and salad dressing with as few ingredients as possible. Not sure if this was a result but my body did a big release of sluggish colon- if you get my drift. My insides feel so comfortable. Again- not sure if it is a combo of whole grains and clean foods but we shall see what week 2 brings.
Regarding curves- Karla sent me a link where you can go 3 times free to check it out. I might do that just to see how things stack up.
I'm going for a walk shortly.
Myra- my goal for next week- No S and eat clean.
Patti- the links didn't work- :(
Janet- the rude sales clerk would have gotten a piece of my mind and I wouldn't have bought a cap. SO glad you called to report the incident.
Karla- love the picture is Izzy and Glenn.
Need to get running but I will try to make it back later. I must work on the new book. I've had to many distractions lately so I'm behind in the edit.
    Until later.

Cindy, try this, click on Community, then Groups, then type in OMG in the box under Group Options, then Click on OMG-One Mini Goal - Challenges, Support and Recipes. All three threads will come up. Click on the star to turn them gold and now they are in your favorites.
You have made some major changes so I bet your scale will start moving. I know you miss your time with your book so hope you have some ME time to get back to it.

Janet, what a special evening for you. So happy that you are over whatever had it's grip on you last week. Did you get to see any of the game before you left? I think Tom Brady played the best game of his career. The GB game was more exciting and certainly fraught with some bad calls by the refs. Hated seeing them lose, but what a spectacular ending.

Vikki, I am truly blessed having my Mom near and that our relationship is one of friendship, love and mutual respect. My Dad passed aways over 6 years ago and she they had been living in southern Texas for over 25 years. All her friends had either moved away or passed away and she was there by herself far too long. She had trouble selling her house. I had nearly lost hope of ever getting her back to Ohio. She moved up here last December and I have relished every moment with her. She will be 86 in March and I am planning a surprise party for her. She has NEVER had a birthday party in her life. Just need to come up with a theme.

Did my 30 minutes with my new Leslie DVD. Good basic aerobic workout with no fancy moves but gets your heart rate up and the sweat flowing. Edd is on his way home and should be here by half time of game one. Just waiting with baited breath for my Broncos to play. It should be smash-mouth football at it's best.

Hi all - missed my soccer practice this am. Decided it was more important to spend time with the kids. We made delicious pumpkin pancakes and played cards. Headed to my youngest's soccer game shortly.

I went to a soup swap last night. I really did not want to bring many home because there was an emphasis on yummy over healthy. I took a lentil ham soup that turned out really well.

Patti - good job getting your leslie workout in today...you sure are consistent!! Does your mom have her own place or does she live in a retirement community?

    Karla - great pic!!

Cindy - it really is amazing when you start looking at the labels and figure out what we are eating! even things like chicory root: they add it to lots of things to increase the fiber grams, but is it healthy? does our body use it like normal food fiber? who knows? good strategy to not waste produce!

jeannette - I agree that listening to the playtime of young ones is so magical!

Janet - sounds like you had a great night out! good for you! what is a diva blessing?

Karla- fun pic! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Patti- good job on the exercise dedication! your relationship with your mother sounds ideal. My mom is about 4 hours away, but says she will move to Durham (neighbors Raleigh and i have an older sister there) when living by herself is no longer feasible. I was pulling for GB last night, but i'll admit, I fell asleep before overtime.

Janet- I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, met the singer and she sang to YOU, and great to hear you are over the stomach bug!

Cindy- I wear contacts, and i swear, when i switch to glasses, i feel like i'm going to fall down the stairs!

Lisa- i've heard of a cookie swap, but never a soup swap! your pumpkin pancakes sound delicious

Jeannette- i'm glad you are having fun with your little honey

**gentle reminder** please post your new mini goal here, in ALL CAPS, and i'll post all of them on the other thread on monday morning. (I don't stay up late, so before 10pm tonight would be ideal for me)
I will continue last week's goals for those I don't "hear" from. also, i'm fond of "cut and paste" so how you type it here, is how it will look

I'm watching "my" Panthers....... and multi-tasking since we are so far ahead. woohoo! (hope i didn't just jinx them, lol)

Karla- Happy Birthday! I hope you get to do at least one thing you really want to :)

Myra- my goal this week is to LOG EVERYTHING I EAT

It was a good church service today, a baptism service. Took grand daughter to her dad's after (as usual) and now am home alone; hubby has to work today for a while. I don't mind much, though. I really like having some down time to myself  Hopefully I'll get some chores done...online classes start tomorrow and I chose a couple of classes that will take a lot of work! I have 2 semesters left; at the end of summer I will have my master's degree.

Patti: That is so sweet that you finally get this mother/daughter time with your mom! I know it means as much to her as it does to you. My brother lives in San Antonio and my dad lived in Houston for a number of years and I would spend some time in the summer there, when I was younger. We bought a show dog in Columbus, OH ( a standard long haired dachshund) and I learned to handle him myself in the show ring, made him a Champion and retired him. Childhood dream. I'm a dog lover. Now he is a retired couch potato and my shadow and I adore him. I still keep in touch with the breeder and send her a Christmas card, which always has our dog included in the family photo ;)

Myra: My husband was watching the Panthers game and rooting for them. He has been to see them play. We are close enough in VA to go. My mom lived in Wake Forest during my college years and I made several trips thru the Greensboro/Durham area traveling to see her. My mini-goals will stay the same: 4 days of cardio, 3 days of strength training and come in under my calorie goals 5 days per week. Thanks for doing that.

Lisa: Glad you got to spend some time with your kids! And the pancakes sounded delicious.

Janet: So glad you had a fun night, I know it had to be great to get out as sick as you have been. Glad you are feeling better.

Lisa, my Mom lives in an apartment 1 1/2 miles from my house. Everything she needs is basically in the parking lot of her complex: grocery, pharmacy, gas station, smoke shop (yep she still smokes) Great Clips, and every fast food you can think of, but she doesn't eat fast food as she is still watching her figure, seriously. Everything else she needs is within 5 miles of her: me and my sister, her docter, Senior Citizen Center, Aldis and the casino. The only thing missing is any friends near her age. I couldn't find an affordable Retirement community near me. But she is very happy and content in her apartment and very independent.
Could you share your Lentil Ham soup, either here or on the recipe board? The soup swap really sounds like a good idea but I would want to only swap with other folks who are eating healthy.

I have never posted a picture on here and didn't anticipate it being so large, I guess where it's a close up. Hope I didn't scare anyone ;) (joking)

This has unexpectedly turned out to be a very busy weekend. I will be hard pressed to post much this coming week as I'll be traveling for business. Yes, this is one of my infrequent work weeks. I'll be in Tulsa teaching software use classes to 5 different groups of frontline lending staff over 3 days. Not hard, I could teach this software with my eyes closed, but there are long-term political undercurrents that I'll have to deal with. Ugh. Since I'm only occasionally working, it's harder for me to gear up for it - professionally and personally. I'm used to rolling out of bed and drinking coffee in my PJ's! When I was working full time, I just kept a suitcase packed all the time. Now I not only have to think about it, since I'm actually losing weight successfully, I also have to go through my closet and try everything on before packing to be sure I haven't "ungrown" it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about that part of the process - it's a good problem to have at long last, it just takes me so dang long to pack!

I took Jessi and Dinky (the dog) back home to their apartment today. After having them here with us nearly a week, It was pretty hard on Mama. I told Jessi that I think of her as my little china doll and I just want to protect her and take care of her.

I'll check in when I can next week, but won't have much time for long chatty posts.

Please make my mini goal TRACK IT ALL! Thank you Myra, Patti, Karla - whoever it is keeping the ship afloat this week.

Hello all - Just checking in after a busy Sunday. I'm not sure I checked in yesterday either. I spent yesterday recovering from my busy week, plus did the menu planning and grocery shopping for the week ahead plus our trip next weekend. Today was church and teaching Sunday school, then spent some time cooking ahead. Tomorrow I'm going to visit my uncle in the rehab center (not doing well at all) then getting my nails done, and packing for my two trips this week.

Both yesterday and today I went over my calories, but I did indeed track everything I ate! I need to really focus on healthy eating, not just the calories, and staying within my limits. I've started to look at my trends, now that I have two weeks of tracking down. I tend to stay within my net calories well during the week, but not so well on weekends. My protein seems high every day, as does my fat. Guess I need to work at that. I need to look at which foods I am eating that are so high in fat. My carbs average okay, my fiber a little low.

Tuesday I head off for a business trip in Washington state, then I take the red-eye back Thursday night, arriving Friday morning so we can go skiing for a long weekend! I'll be tired after flying all the way across country for just two days there, but it has to be done. We will leave for skiing as soon as I get home and showered. So I need to have everything packed before I leave on my first trip. I've spent the day pre-staging non-perishables, making lists of perishables that are in the fridge or freezer, and making a grocery list for John to get Thursday night. We are going with another family - I am bringing two dinners and they are bringing two. Trying to make mine relatively healthy but fulfilling for hungry people who have spent a day on the slopes. I made a beef stew that I will freeze and take - I'll skip the noodles and bread - and the other one I am making is crock-pot pulled pork - lean pork roast with a pineapple salsa - almost like an aloha pork, and a black bean salad to go with it for lots of filling fiber. That is pretty lean - high in protein (again!) but I think skiers need that. Will take veggies and fruits to go along with and for appetizers. I'm taking my yogurt, fruit and eggs for breakfast, and will try to make healthy choices for lunch on the slopes - NO FRIES! Tomorrow I'll dig out my gear and ski clothes.

I'll be checking in via the app on my phone during the week, but will be totally out of touch Saturday through Tuesday of next week. We are going to Snowshoe WV which is in the Green Bank Radio Telescope zone, so no cell service at all. The condo may have wifi.
