Non Scale Victories

@NovusDies That is a fantastic NSV ! After I reached a certain age, one of the first things I learned and focused on was to love myself. You should look in the mirror everyday and say positive things about yourself. Be proud of how far you have come. I have a long way to go with my weight, but I'm trying to feel positive now and not wait until I lose weight. Congrats on your accomplishments.!
I have a high appreciation for intelligence and wisdom and I consider them to be more of my defining features than my physical appearance or a number on the scale. In that way I have never stopped loving myself but I haven't always liked the way I looked.
Your approach is wise but I was not able to do it before. I know that loving anyone doesn't mean you have to like everything about them. I like to focus on the things I love about other people and do my best to ignore the parts I dislike.
In some ways this is a form of denial and I am sure it held me back but it might have also helped me cope with this situation before I was ready to tackle it once and hopefully for all. I count it as a benefit lately though. My appearance was not improving with weight loss and while I can be very patient it sucks to lose so much weight and actually wonder if you look worse. It was better for me to not focus on it and keep my head down so I could continue to do the work.2 -
Now for a more serious NSV and this one is HUGE for me...
I no longer purposefully avoid seeing my full self in the mirror. I am still obese but all that I have had to do for the last 19 months is finally showing up in an appreciable manner.
In related news...
I also had a picture of myself taken last Friday night that was not a progress picture but one that I have added to my normal pictures folder. It was the first picture I have been willing to take in a very very long time.
Great to hear. Very happy for you.1 -
I’ve had “borderline” high blood pressure for the last couple years. I never had to take medication for it, but I was close to that point. I had to monitor it daily for a while, to make sure I stayed in the range my doctor was comfortable with, but somewhere along the way I got lazy and stopped doing that. I really haven’t checked it much since I started losing weight.
My yearly appointment is coming up, so I thought I’d check it today, to make sure I’m still in that range. It was 108/80! I can’t remember the last time it was that good.
I’ve DREADED going to the doctor and avoided it at all cost for YEARS! Now I’m actually looking forward to next month’s checkup, so I can show off my weight loss (66 pounds so far!) and hopefully get a good report on my BP and bloodwork!8 -
@katy9599 You just sashay into your appointment with a big ole grin and your good numbers! Way to go!3

I guess I can stop trying to train my puppy to track your scent so I can hunt you down. That is good because it wasn't going very well.2 -
I am not napping during the day like I used to!....Depression and extra pounds were really dragging me down more than I realized....everyday after lunch I would go to sleep for two or three hours and wake up draggy and tired....I don’t think I have taken a nap in a couple of months now....I stay up way to late...almost 2 a.m. every night but I am up by 9 or 10 in the morning.....I was literally sleeping my life away!3

Awesome nsvs everyone!
I haven’t used my laptop in awhile and I needed it yesterday, it now fits in my lap. I used to have to use it on a board, while reclining. I’m still going to do that because it gets a little hot after awhile, but I can now use it in my lap. Some of my new pants are getting lose, and I’m now considered lightly active.7 -

Noooo, don't stop, send me the puppy!2 -
Yesterday my blood sugar was 97 and today it was 104. For the the last two months it's been 115-120 and it's been on my mind a bit.4

I have been struggling with my high BP for several years...currently taking 6 BP medications. The past 5 days my BP has been 130/90 or lower. This is a huge improvement for me!! I don’t see my cardiologist again until Dec. 16th, but if this improvement continues I am hopeful I will be taken off of some of the medications.7

Two health marker improvements. That is GREAT. Good going @papayahed and @DogMom919!1

I fit in a booth yesterday, with room. I also walked to and from a nearby burger place. In the past a walk like that would have left me wiped and/or in pain. But I got home did 30 minutes on my exercise bike and another 15 later in the evening. I don’t know why I was surprised that I could do the walk because I now walk around the grocery store. I think it’s one of those perspective things I guess.5

Yesterday I tried some jeans on that I hadn’t worn for a few years and they fit!3

Had an appointment today with the practice nurse at my GP’s surgery for an asthma check up and flu jab. I see the same nurse for my pill check ups and she did a double take and insisted on weighing me before we did anything else. According to her scales, since I saw her last in July I have lost 10kgs, not only that but in the 6 months since my last asthma check my lung function score has risen from 57 to over 90. Ok it was lower than normal last time as I’d had a bout of pneumonia at the end of last year but I’ll take it!! She told me to keep doing whatever it is I’m doing and that she can’t wait to see less of me at my next check 😂7

That's awesome!1

Today at work a coworker and I climbed a scaffolding, had a conversation, and climbed back down before I realized I did all that without batting an eye or being out of breath!8

I ran 3 miles this morning without stopping to walk. I still can't get over how far I've come since I started running -- at the beginning of August I was barely making it through a minute and a half jogging interval without being completely out of breath and having pain in my lower legs.11

That’s a huge improvement in mobility. 5k competition here you come!

that's awesome! great job! man, it's crazy what a body can do with training and support. that's basically a 5k right there! next up: 10k?3 -
I dunno. I'm interested in 10k training, but I'm already pressed for time in the morning when I run. That'd mean I'd need to get up at 5am instead of 6. For now, I'm going to focus on 5k and work on my pace.4
-
that's an excellent plan. plus, it should be as enjoyable as possible! less sleep doesn't sound super fun.2

That is absolutely brilliant, it just goes to show what can be achieved if you put your mind to it.3 -
I love reading these. Well done Losers x3

I went to the store with my mother this weekend and saw a really cute sweater that I wanted, but couldn't find it in my (supposed) size. She insisted I try on the next size down. It fit! With a little wiggle room! So I'm down another size, even though my scale is currently taunting me with what I assume is this month's water weight.6

One thing I have been noticing more and more lately. I seem to have more time or time seems to move slower. Because I am feeling better I get so much more done.
There was a time where even the smallest of tasks like getting dressed were more of a chore. When that is the case it is hard to have an "attack the day" mentality. I still seldom hit the floor running. I need a few minutes to gather myself but it doesn't take long.6 -
My daughters’ volleyball game tonight is doing a “Pink Out” benefit to support a local breast cancer charity. They asked fans to wear pink, but my only pink shirt is dirty. So I went into my 16 yo daughter’s closet to borrow something! She’s about 60 pounds lighter than me (she’s my goal weight), but she likes things baggy, so her tshirts are mostly XL. So it’s not like I think I’m the same size as her, lol... but a few months ago, I was stretching out my XXL shirts. Now her XL is nice and loose. I can’t wait to hear her complain about me taking her stuff! Haha!11
