@raleighgirl09 man oh man can I relate to your addiction swapping mind bends. Good thing we are both Pollyanna types and truly believe a healthy lifestyle can be achieved with practice 😉
@Davidji82 WOOHOO, Congratulations on such a big success! Keep that focus and you will be sure to reach your goals 🤗
@TeresaW1020 Nice job this week, awesome progress for the month, and WOW lookit your all time loss! So what do you see as your biggest weight loss tool for your success so far? 😊
@trooworld Carbs do tend to make the body ask for more more more- glad you are figuring things out! I too have to take a pass on pasta to avoid tummy whines 😉
Friday journal entry
Ok so I am on meds that cause weight gain via increase in tiredness, perceived hunger, slowed metabolism, muscle aches and more.... I am not whining because the chronic brain pain n tic relief makes it worthwhile! 🧘♀️
Sadly my dosage was upped yet again - 2nd time in as many weeks- but I am determined to stay on them ( rather than switch back to another with worse side effects).
This means I can expect another jump up on the scale (so far + 3lbs, and is usually 5 lbs with each Dosage increment ) ... and I have to find some way to silence/mute my ‘must-eat-all-things foodie monster’ who has gotten WAY out of control.
I am not depressed, just weary. I know I can do this - I did it before- but I am 5 years older and dang it is so hard.
Good thing I have Viking warrior blood in me 😉
Have a great day everyone! 🤗

@raleighgirl09, There is much evidence that “tricking our body” with a planned indulgence is a good thing. But only if we can keep the plan from going haywire and throwing us off the rails. Enjoy every moment with your friends and the good food and drinks, knowing that the very next meal you will be back to doing your plan.
YES, and YES to everything you said about food addiction. It has been my crack since I was a child who would sneak into the sugar bowl to eat spoonfuls of that yummy, white substance. My addiction did manifest itself into a 35-year smoking habit, a pot, and alcohol addiction for about 15 years, and of course, always the food and sugar that kept my weight going up and up. Some addictions are gone forever and hold no temptation for me. I know without a doubt that I won’t ever put a cigarette in my mouth. But the food with its holidays, special events, or random Tuesday afternoon will always be with me and it has to be monitored very closely and probably always will. For me, IF helps tremendously as does limiting or eliminating the biggest food culprits that rage my addiction out of control. BUT believe me, I could binge on mashed cauliflower if I don’t portion it out.
The more I learn the more I also believe that mindset is behind most of our actions and behaviors. In the Beck book that I’m reading, she says it’s always a choice that we make. We don’t choose to breathe or have our heartbeat, but we always choose to put that food in our mouth, and changing that behavior is becoming my obsession.
Thanks for giving me a reason to ramble!!
I LOVE the sweet story that you are creating for your Hazel!
Sloths are my spirit animal. I have this large picture of a sloth in my Sunday school room. His name is Moe. One of my kids gave me a sloth blanket for Christmas and another a sloth mug.
@davidji82 Congratulations on reaching such an awesome milestone! Keep up the great work!
@trooworld Yayyyy I would love to do the Beck Diet Solution with you, and anyone else that would like to join us! I will write more about it below.
I would agree with your assessment on it being the noodles that made you extra hungry. Your body breaks down pasta (carbs) just like it will any other sugar and because it burns so quickly, our bodies let us know that it would like some more of that easy fuel source. You might have to eliminate or strictly limit.
@SammyDee2015 Thanks! I see my biggest weight-loss tool to be a few things. First, is my determination to NEVER give up again on reaching my goal weight. I have had lots of ups and downs, but I keep getting back up and plugging along. Also for me, intermittent fasting has been life-changing and something I will do it forever. Also, learning what foods work for my body. I wanted carbs to work, but they don’t and they have to be strictly limited or I just won't lose weight. I’m sorry that you are in pain and need the meds to manage it. But I’m glad to read that you understand where the weight gain is coming from and yeah, learning to mute the monster will be a big help. But do cut yourself some slack and use that Viking warrior blood in you for your good.
Good morning team! It’s Friday and I hope you have great weekend plans that include taking care of yourselves. I have a baby shower tomorrow (last week was the wrong date!
) and Sunday is my mom’s birthday, so I will need to watch the food intake and determine what my “planned indulgences” will be and what will be off-limits.
I'm super excited that I have @trooworld agreeing to do The Beck Diet Solution book with me! I hope to gather a few more of you too. You can order the book on Amazon, The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person. If you don’t want to get the book and read it then that is totally fine! I plan to discuss it here in this group and you can either skip the discussion or take what is beneficial for you.
Start Date: Monday, February 1st (I will post each day). Get the book, read the first four chapters to prepare and get the supplies you need (notebook, index cards, & sticky notes) and let’s have fun and learn how to think like a thin person!!

Disappointed but not really surprised. It's been a stressful week - my elderly neighbor passed away after contracting COVID-19, her husband is fighting for his life in the ICU.
Now my husband's 55 year old best friend, who tested positive last week, was hospitalized & yesterday was also transferred to the ICU on a ventilator. Hubby was with him 2 days before he tested positive so has been quarantining for the last 10 days and, needless to say, has been very anxious for his friend & himself. With all this going on our meal times & content have been haphazard and last weeks loss has been negated.
I'm finding it hard to commit with the same amount of consistency & enthusiasm as this time last year. I know what works for me in order to lose weight, so it's just a matter of doing it! My son returns to college on Sunday which may help. We won't have to have as many snacks in the house & I won't have to cook to suit him!
Just trying to get my mind right for the rest of the month - stay well and safe everyone.

@TeresaW1020 LOL, you got me, I'd responded to posts then clicked on the cheesecake link dammit! I lost everything, haha! I always do that, never fails! I'm too curious! I don't have most the ingredients but saved it anyhow, let me know what you think! I'll look in the Beck solution, it would be fun to read together. Maybe I can get it through the library?
@gwamajtw91 I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbors, prayers for the people in your life who are fighting right now, you, and your husband.
@trooworld there are some good stretches in there I forgot about! I love how putting my legs up on the wall feels but it's such a pain to get out of that position once you scoot your butt up to the wall!
@SammyDee2015 I honestly don't know the how to get around medication and losing weight, I'm in the same boat right now. I've spent a lot of times on the forums here and people swear it comes down to calories but I've weighed and logged everything including spices and it's still off with medication, I shouldn't have gained as much as I did according to the data. I DID lose weight on a medication that affected hunger but I've gained a lot on prednisone and the anti-depressant. It won't be as easy as if we weren't on them but we can still do it!
OK gang, it rained last night and I'm super sore, I don't know if I'll work out or even get off the couch today. I knocked my side mirror off backing out yesterday so I need to order a new one. If any of you are interested I started a book group on here, I can post the link but I called it The Book Nook and it's public. It has a goofy picture of a snowman from high school, I was on my laptop and my boyfriend had that picture of us from high school and I saved it on my laptop and can't change the group picture to something normal like a bookshelf so excuse it!3 -

Surprisingly good week. It has been an all out crazy week. I really appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. We were able to contact, schedule and vaccinate 2,000 people. Thankfully I had over 125 volunteers between the two days to assist us. It was one of the most rewarding things I have ever been a part of. We worked 90+ hours in 8 days and were worn out - so no planned exercise and eating some not too healthy foods. I guess when you walk 5-6 miles, stand 85% of the time it somehow comes out as exercise.
So, this week not only was I blessed to serve in such a fabulous way, but I got a good weight loss out of it too!!!
Hope everyone has had an awesome week!! Hope to be on here a little more this next week!7 -

@Cornanda I’m soooo excited for you!! What a good week you have had. Now keep it up and focus on that next decade.
I hope you do decide to do the book but if not then at least read our post about it because I’m sure you will get something from the discussion that you can use for your own health journey.
@gwamajtw91 I am so very sorry for the losses and for the worry you have been dealing with. That would affect anyone’s consistency and enthusiasm. Please be kind to yourself and you will get back on track once life settles down a bit.
@Katmary71 Ohhh I hate when I do that and lose my post. This is why I type in a Word.doc.
I hope you do get the book and join us! Between the Beck Diet book and my upcoming Bible study, I will be all booked out for the next several weeks. But your book group is a great idea.
@adhmrh Congrats on your great week!! That is great that the vaccinating went so well and that you had so much help. And you got more than enough exercise so own it and be proud of yourself!
Hi Team! Today was a day of lots of little projects. I cleaned, did laundry, made chicken salad for tomorrow, organized my desk, and made an updated to-do list. I love making a list, crossing off things, and then making a new list.
My eating was great today and I had a good workout. Speaking of working out. Tomorrow, I’m going to try to train myself to get up and do my workout before I sit and drink my two cups of coffee and browse the computer. I want to see if I can get a little more structure and organization to my day. We shall see if it will work!

Friday quick check in - almost midnight!
Not much time - Friday struck for lack of planning to leave for a long drive right at dinnertime. Precipitated by a late lunch of cereal (switched B and L in my diary) and then an hour and a half later a brisk walk. Lo and behold, dip in blood sugar, has not happened for some time. Pimento cheese called and then other things called and.... Ugh, tomorrow is a new day. Scale was up a smidge this morning from higher sodium yesterday.
Still going to go to the event tomorrow so I'll be two days off.

Saturday morning with a fresh perspective! WARNING - long rambling post below!!
I'm up! I'm almost at'm!!!
I still have to log the bits and bites from yesterday but I updated the Habit Tracker before bed last night and only had 2 check marks. My hurried check in last night allowed for 2 check marks so I selfishly just popped in for the brownie point (as it were!). Weird how even though I know I'm playing tricks on myself, I fall for it!!
We're going to the outdoor fireside gathering tonight and I'm going to stay as close to my 1240 calories for the day as I can. I'm planning a substantial late breakfast and then a light late lunch to allow for calorie heavy bratwurst but not be too hungry. If I take an accompaniment to share that is good for me, it could turn out pretty well. I'm not going to super stress it but be more mindful than I had planned to. Not that I had planned to go crazy but I was more in the mood for not worrying about calories too much at that one meal.
The real joy of going is not the food - it's being with friends by a firepit at night and having conversation and laughs for a great visit - if I separate the food from the real why of why we're going, it takes a lot of the pressure off.
It's all about the give and take and yesterday evening I was suddenly very hungry with the shaky-weirdy feeling that demands attention (food) so I had what was available and realized...I had not planned for a dinner that was immediately ready, light in sodium and very filling so that I could eat before leaving on a 3 hour drive and arrive not hungry. That takes planning and is not as simple as it may sound, but I'll be ready for it next Friday when we do it all over again.
I'm almost done with my Hazel book entitled: 'A Book for Hazel: Henry Visits Grandad and Gigi' and am loving every minute of doing it. Henry is back at the ranch and not with us this trip but I'm going to take a selfie of Grandad and Gigi while on the waterfront today and write a simple letter to Hazel on the back and mail it to her. Then I'll finish the Henry book and send it next week - I'll take a picture of it and show you all what we ended up with! Because I think and do in excess (it's my middle name!) it has become a serious project that will be laminated and put together with snaps and numbered pages so Hazel can take it apart and have a puzzle with it by numbers whenever she's ready for such a thing. The lamination will help it survive a 2 year old and I hope it is something she'll enjoy for a long time. Already thinking of the next Henry adventures - he's going to go to the beach and he's going to have an adventure in the backyard with Grandad, helping him work on kayaks in the backyard - Henry will hop into a few different kayaks (we have what could be termed a 'fleet') and try them all, he'll dress up in the gear (hat, sunglasses, life vest, use a kayak paddle, kayak skirt, etc.) and he'll pretend to fish from the kayak on the deck. Fo' sho' fun times with Henry - a happenstance relationship that has blossomed into something sweet and quite therapeutic.4 -

I am reminded, reading everyone's thoughts and ups and downs - the daily life struggles we all have - that my COVID experience is vastly different from some others; experiences. Thank you to @adhmrh for the work you did and thank you so much for the gift of time and attention you gave your slice and corner of the world. @gwamajtw91 prayers for you and your friends and family as you traverse some of the worst pitfalls outcomes of this pandemic. I try to not think of just myself, with really only inconveniences due to the virus but I do sometimes get all wrapped up in my own head. My ardent hope and wish is that your husband is fine and this doesn't touch you any more deeply than it has already.

@davidji82 way to go - awesome stuff to hit those goals!!!
@TeresaW1020 wootWOOT!! What a great week and January you are having, showing that consistent dedication and working on habits will take you sailing into progress!! I will cheer you all on for the Beck way, sitting out for the participation - how very generous of you to lead the group in that exercise, that will really help everyone stay on track!
@trooworld this is a nice drop, nearly a pound - more will join that .08! I'm looking forward to exploring this plan of PLANNING of letting up for a meal and not demanding to stay at the 1240 because I want to have a sustainable existence, not bounce back and forth from one extreme to the other.
@Cornanda I am so excited for that 7 for you!! It is really awesome to see the down pattern like - new numbers are worthy of celebration!! We celebrate right along with you!! Yay {{{{{throwing confetti everywhere!!!}}}}}
@SammyDee2015 I know you're looking forward to leveling out the meds and getting to a stable feeling of knowing what to expect - it's hard when the obstacles are necessary and can't be swatted away as easily as a fly! That Viking blood will be a great angle on the shoulder as you soldier on past this - stepping over the bodies as you go! You can do it, and we're here to cheer you along!
@Katmary71 wow, a book club! How do you feel about audio listeners versus paper turners.......? Yeah, please post the link because some of us (me) are not really savvy all the time, or sometimes even any of the time, and that would be super helpful. @trooworld Ohhh I haven’t had jello shots for years!! Sugar free is a good idea. I hope you have a great night playing video games - what do you play? I think 0.8lbs is a good loss with everything that has been going on. You got this.
@raleighgirl09 I’m glad that your feeling more positive this morning. I hate those blood sugar level crashes you describe. I’m insulin resistant so it’s often a risk for me if I don’t eat. I think your book about Henry’s adventures sounds wonderful!!
@RYcare How wonderful! What a great loss this week and a fantastic milestone!

My Saturday was good! Nice and relaxing. Did a bunch of housework, with Harry Potter movies playing in the background. Did some strength training and some stretching and yoga so got a lot of minutes in. Finished the day a little over goal on calories but still with a deficit.
Sunday morning now, I’m still lying in bed just catching up on MFP groups. I have some friends coming over for coffee and a play date for all our kids this morning so a bit more housework to do before then (but after coffee). I can hear the toddler is awake so I must get up now and tend to him! Have a great weekend everyone!

Brilliant! That is what I told myself today too. I ate my food, threw my plate in the trash, opened another bottle of sparkling water, and enjoyed my friends. We can do it can’t we?
@trooworld Thanks, I just went and bought the workbook too! Our brains are going to be switched to skinny thinking for sure now!

Hi Team! Today has been super busy so please forgive me for not replying to each of you this evening, but I did read all the posts. Today was the baby shower, which was super fun and the mom was very surprised. I’m very happy to report that I didn’t touch the delectable cupcakes, Rice Krispy treats, or the punch. There was fruit and I had one small wedge of cantaloupe and I did have a small croissant with my chicken salad. Once I came home, I’ve been super busy trying to put together a lesson for children’s church that was sprung on me right before I went to bed last night. The woman who was supposed to do it had her son exposed to Covid and they have to quarantine him until he can get a test on Monday. And now I need to go make that cheesecake I spoke of earlier in the week and wrap some presents for my mom’s birthday tomorrow. We are taking her out for a steak dinner!

@TwistedSassette what a great idea to break down the whole bar and wrap separately. I've been buying snavk size portions. They cost more, but maybe I'll separate a bar into portion sizes. Thanks for the tip

@apple852hk Sorry the chocolate monster got you! That's why I didn't participate in the sugar-free January - I would have done the same as you and made it a while and then overindulged. Does it help you if the chocolate is wrapped in individual servings? Even if you took a big block, broke it up into your daily allowance and wrapped them separately, even labelled with the day you will eat it? Stuff like that helps me, thought it might be worth a shot.
