Thursday weigh-in
PW: 183.6
CW: 1835 -
Last night I couldn’t sleep and didn’t want to keep my wife awake with my tossing and turning so I got out of bed. Huge mistake! I got the munchies and probably ate 750 calories of nuts and snacks before finally going back to bed. It’s very frustrating when that happens!5

Don't forget the heartache and worry! It's coming up to 4 years since I said goodbye to my boy, and I still have mixed feelings about getting back into it. @jugar was right about the peacefulness, and I often miss being around horses.
He's a beautiful boy @jugar. I assume at his age, you won't have him gelded when he retires? I don't think other countries are as fussy about keeping stallions as we are here in the UK where it's really not the done thing unless they're retained at stud.0 -
Sorry I'm late with my weigh-in! No change this week, ate wayyy too much fast food this past weekend I think ;(4

Some great losses this week, congrats to all!
We have been off work but I think work might've been more restful. The spare room is finished (needs a wardrobe and some photos, plus Mom's shortening the curtains for me), the cloakroom is finished, the bathroom is WIP ready to start painting tomorrow. The front lawn is gone, we need to rake it over. We've bought some lavender, heathers and grasses to go in there, then we're trying to decide what to top it with. The couple staining our fence are making great progress. The skip is comfortably high now, with room for the last few bits. I've also gotten rid of a fair chunk via FB, and there's a perfectly timed charity collection on Monday. The conservatory and garage are mostly decluttered, a little way to go and a lot of cleaning/organising to come in the garage. The attic has been decluttered - I don't understand why they kept old toilet seats up there at all. We aren't going to get everything done before the end of the weekend and we're getting to the point of needing a proper day off, but so much progress has been made it's been fantastic.
It's OH's birthday tomorrow and we're having TGI Fridays takeaway for tea. I believe there's 1090 calories in a chicken strips appetiser alone - and for takeaway it comes as a 'meal' so it's a bigger portion plus fries. They used to do JD chicken which I would have with double veg so that was 750 calories for the plate, but they stopped it probably 2 years ago now. Just looking at the menu... seems I can order the starter-size and fries so that's about 1400 calories total. I've done well to have not exceeded my calorie goal all year and I think this highlights that sometimes my options are going to be limited as restrictions are lifted and we can go places again. I may well take a day off, or I may go the starter and side route.
Originally I planned to take a diet break this week but I wasn't craving one so I didn't factor it in. Might have been a mistake. Whilst I've not gone over my calorie goal, I think I've eaten my exercise calories every day, and I don't know how much of it is being off work (I tend to go off the rails a bit when I'm on holiday) vs having so much yummy stuff in the house vs maybe I reduced my calories too low at this point in time. We've been so busy that I've not had much time to snack but when I have had a snack the portion sizes have been inflated (or doubled, in some cases) and I've been dodging my '1 a day' rule left, right and centre. I've been moving a lot but not been doing the 30 minutes a day exercise and struggling to keep my water intake up. I feel like I need to hit a reset button, so from Monday, I'll give it 110% again. In the mean time I'm making sure to stay under my calorie goal, will deliberately get my 30 mins exercise a day (sprints today, run tomorrow), and staying hydrated.4 -
That post brings up a question I have since I'm new here... speaking of diet breaks - can we still participate in future monthly challenges if we intend to take one? In late May I am hoping to do a 14 day diet break (eat at maintenance).. the other two weeks I'd be actively trying to lose (and then right away after again).
Can I still weigh in and participate despite knowing those weeks will likely be flat?2 -
Holy Moly!
Thursday has been jam-packed. It is so beautiful out, my horse is going SO well on the lunge and getting back to some work together, the new garden plants are started and need attention (I sing to them like Toad in Frog and Toad). The tall guy had a bit of a health scare and gets a scan tomorrow, but it seems like it does not look serious, and the wildlife is, well, wild. And everywhere. In the road, around the pond, all over the orchard, etc. etc.
@DD265
I'm very interested in the UK policy (or at least general guideline) about older stallions. I would much prefer not to castrate, but the current owner wants to make sure that she has full breeding rights and his bloodlines are not being sold by someone else. He has always done well kept with other geldings , but lately has been bad about breaking fences and going where he is not wanted because he has been turned out alone. I will do some more research on this, but in the final event, it is not my choice - his owner wants to castrate him before handing him over to me. In any case, I hear you about the difficulty of losing horses too - my daughter lost two this year, well before their time, and it was dreadful. Still, there is nothing like it
@gak71
You are so sweet to worry about your wife when you can't sleep - and ill-advised snacking is just one of those ways to pass the wakeful and anxious times... A good book? Those awesome breathing exercises that make anyone fall asleep? (it really works) Lots of exercise during the day? I know you'll find a way past that eating bomb...
@eggfreak
Take out the word "obsessively". Just routinely log and check things, without going too overboard. I hope you can find the happy medium!
There are beautiful weigh-ins happening! Congratulations to all of you!6 -

A two week break is a great idea. Our bodies always appreciate a moment to get used to where you have gotten to in your weight loss, and then moving on from there is often much easier.
You have two ways to do this - both keep you in the team and you can post all the way through! If you stay in the regular team, you can either just weigh in even if you do not lose at all, or you can ask for a couple of excused weigh-ins if you want to stay away from the scale. If you want to take the whole month off, you can be on the "support team" (aka cheer squad) and post along with everyone, but your weigh-ins will not count in the weekly tallies. I do not have any problem with you staying on the regular team even if you do not lose for a couple of weeks - that happens to people all the time. So just let me know which way you'd like to do this once we are getting ready for May. Thanks!3 -

Started my day with a short Pilates session. 11 min. Then grabbed breakfast and we had a “field trip”. Went to a beautiful tulip farm nearby. Not the Netherlands, but pretty nice for North Carolina.
Logged all my food. Slightly over calories, but my Fitbit tracker is not registering on MFP. Just a little shy with my 9k step goal but will be over with my little workout.
Here are photos from today.

Thanks for sharing @micki48 ... looks like a great way to spend the day!
One thing I'm noticing I'm learning right now is how to savor my treats. I used to love eating fast... the more I could get in the better, it seemed. Now I'm slowly savoring one small piece of chocolate and really enjoying the taste.6 -
@KellyBgetsfit and @PlaneMonkey CONGRATS 👏 What great weeks for you ladies!
@gak71 Waking up at night is no fun! I hope it isn't a regular occurrence because that could really be a problem for the calorie budget!
@micki48 Beautiful pictures and what a magical place to visit! Love it. Tulips are one of my favorites. Good job getting your workouts in.
@ashleycarole86 I am planning to eat at maintenence for one week a month. This is a new plan for me so we will see how it goes. I'm starting on Sunday and in theory I should stay about the same but we'll see!
I over ate this evening. The kids are at the grandparents house for a sleepover. Hubby and I had a date night. I made a crab boil and corn bread. We went for a sunset walk on the logging roads and then had coffee and mini cheese cakes. I have not logged it all yet but I feel full! Anyway, it was nice to have some time to ourselves. My youngest got some star wars toys in his Easter basket and he tells me something about star wars about every 5 minutes. It was also nice to not talk about star wars for an entire evening LOL!5 -
@jugar there's no stallion policy as such, but they're uncommonly owned by individuals (rather than studs). It would be a challenge to find livery for a stallion as many yards won't accept them, then said stallion could well be kept in isolation. I think there's a lot of fear in terms of handling stallions and they have a bad rep - which I suspect is not deserved in 99% of cases! - so most colts are gelded as early as possible. I personally would always choose a gelding (unless I had my own land) because it would be easier to ensure quality of life.
That said, I like the idea of allowing a colt to mature before gelding. I often wonder the impact of gelding as young as we do. It's unusual to consider gelding an older horse unless necessary for health reasons though - gelded late in the UK typically means somewhere between 5 and 10!2 -

Due to the Coronavirus and lockdowns in Europe we decided last minute to travel to the US for spring break. We have been in Alabama this week and will be in Florida next. The change of pace is great. My kids are bright red from the sun. Americans in the south are so friendly and we are having a great time!
I have to say this is the first time I’ve jumped in the hotel pool without worrying about how I looked or walked down the beach without a coverup. It’s liberating to just enjoy myself with my family and not worry about my weight so much. I’m not to the point where I’m strutting yet but not focusing on all my faults feels amazing!!8 -
@Steph1498 hold onto that amazing feeling! That's the stuff that gets you through the inevitable temptations that will come your way in the future. Way to go!3

Doing well, I accidently bought the wrong ice cream. I thought it was a keto friendly type, but it is not. I did not realize until I ate some and it tasted too good. I just ate small portions and was able to stay on track, but I will check labels better next time.
For this week's challenge I chose sleeping over 7 hours at night and staying alcohol free and i have been doing well with that. I am tracking with the habit tracker.6 -
My work was offering a one hour online streaming stretching class this afternoon, so I participated in that. Good to move the muscles after being stuck at a desk all week. After work, we will go out for a nice long walk with the dog and a couple of friends... hoping to get out to the mountains to hike this weekend as well! Love planning activity for the weekend and setting those good intentions early on.5

There is a lot of WOW today!
@PlaneMonkey
Those photos are just plain impressive. In only 7 months! Both you and the shirt are looking amazing
@ellz_runs
There is no shame - you lost a couple of pounds and you were busy! Drop by whenever, and never worry about having other stuff to do
@ashleycarole86
The group stretch sounds great, and you are smart to set those weekend plans. It is so easy to get stuck with catching up on errands, housework, or just sitting around because you can... Heading for the mountains sounds much more wonderful. You are so lucky to live in Alberta and to have spectacular hiking available. I'll be there in June and can't wait!
@lorib642
Good job keeping that ice cream under control - it is SO hard to do! And you are right to read those labels carefully - so much success is due to good shopping. Well done on keeping the alcohol and other habits well tracked and under control!
@conleywoods
A star wars free evening with good eats, conversation, and yummy foods - totally worth it! Sounds perfect.
My daily horse sessions are going really well - I am always amazed at the effect of working together with an animal - on both partners in the work. Thanks for your thoughts on stallions @DD265 . I completely agree that most stallions are amazing to work with and can certainly be held to good behaviour in most cases. This guy proved it again today. I had always had geldings in the past, and I must say that they certainly give more peace of mind, but the added dimensions, attention, and a different kind of connection with a stallion are quite special. In any case, we are both getting our muscles, concentration, and partnership well exercised these days!
@steph1498
I am picturing you having a blast around the pool now, in an amazing bathing suit, feeling wonderful!
