Just came across this article in one of my favorite running blogs of an elite runner who had covid and has an elevated HR.

Ok I am way behind so going back to comment on some things...

@quilteryoyo - I am learning to like plain hummus as I was never much of a fan before. TJs, however has a 3-layer hummus that has a plain layer, a spicy red pepper layer and a cilantro layer. It is delicious! I could eat the entire container. They also have an olive one that has chunks of chopped up olives in it and I love olives. I think I ate too much of that one as it has interested me lately. Nowadays I just buy the Mediterranean olive mix and eat olives instead.
You are so busy that I just don't know how you do it all. I know it all seems normal when you are in the middle of it but wow! I guess if I had so many things to do (like working 😊) and people depending on me to do things for them I would be motivated to get more done but I seem to be challenged to just finish unloading the boxes of stuff that we still have.

@swenson19d - Hobbes doesn't just paw at the windows, he jumps and attacks them while barking. He ripped the previous curtains we had there and I was really worried he would hurt himself so getting the collar and device to keep him away was perfect. Now just the device (no collar) sitting there will keep him away but if we go out I usually put the collar on him just in case. Dh likes to leave him in his crate and Hobbes doesn't mind it but I don't really see any reason he needs to be in it.

I have a terrible time remembering when things happened. If I can I try to anchor them to some other event or how old dd was or something like that. The other day we were talking about when she moved to Baltimore and I was thinking it was about 5 years ago... nope she has already been in the house in Seattle for 8 years and in a rental there for 2 years before that.

Squirrel tree toy - we have that same toy! Dd had it for her pup and he liked it so much I had to get it for Hobbes. He also had one with bees. The bee hive eventually got pulled apart so now the bees live in the squirrel tree with the squirrels. It is funny how much they all seem to love that toy. Hobbes used to carry the bees and squirrels all around the house occasionally squeaking them but mostly just carrying them.
Hobbes will play with toys with another pup and we have trained him to get one for us when either of us or anyone else comes to the house. It helps keep him from jumping on us and from jumping/barking at any guests. Once in a while after dinner he will want to play for a few minutes and he and dh play tug and then he is done. He does love treats and will do just about anything for a treat or other food.
I love that Kevin loves to go to day care. Hobbes loves it now once he gets there. He has his 'girlfriends' and is a favorite of one of the managers who gives him doggy meatballs all the while loving up on him. When she goes into the play rooms he will grab a toy there and run to her with it too.

@CMorning99 - hope all the meds help grey cat feel better. I can't imagine doing drops 6x day! will you take the kitties on vacation with you? Hope you have a great time and are able to enjoy yourself and relax! On water restrictions - we don't have any, yet. The city has underground aquifers so we are not reliant on water from No CA or from the Colorado River. However we have decided to redo the yards (front and back) with drought resistant plants and get rid of most of the lawn in front for sure. Will probably keep the back lawn so Hobbes and his buddies have a place to run and play. So glad you are seeing progress on getting the mobile home moved and on the plans for the house!

I haven't run or walked since Monday. My shoulder was just so sore even after PT and taking the Tylenol it continued to hurt. We went to the Dodger game on Wednesday which was fun but I should have taken something I could rest my arm on. It was throbbing again when we got home, so I haven't even wanted to do the new PT exercises. I have been doing them just at bedtime but today I went ahead and did them as part of my warmup before Hobbes and I went out. I had NO pain today! I was able to run and my arm didn't hurt at all. Also it was wonderful out. It rained overnight and was cool and cloudy. I really wanted to get out there and take advantage of the cool weather because next week it is supposed to get super hot again. Food has been pretty good. Even at the ballgame I just had a hotdog and shared a beer with dh. I might have gotten some nachos, I really wanted them but they were so expensive ($20!) and I am really not all that much of a fan of that melted cheese sauce they use, that may or may not have any cheese in it at all. Next time I will get peanuts to take in with us along with a bottle of water. Don't know how much the water was to buy there and was glad I brought a bottle so I didn't have to find out.
I have decided to track fiber for a while in my diary and thought I was getting lots. Nope... I figured a salad had lots of fiber, apparently not really, so now I am looking at ways to increase it since it helps with feeling full, blood sugar regulation, hydration and much more.

Oh almost forgot... we got the final beneficiary forms back from the remaining charities today. So the checks are being mailed out. WhooHoo! We are almost finished. I still have to do a final accounting and get the trust taxes completed but the end is in sight!

@shanaber cute! I’ll have to look for the bees. I occasionally hide a treat in there to reinforce the find it game. Someday I’m going to sub it for scent work. Kevin shakes the trunk and the squirrels fly out. Why does Hobbes think the the window isn’t there? Or that he’s a cat? Beary did that for a bit trying to get birds.

I got the e collars today!
Seems they won’t misbehave with them on. Lol! Trainer said she uses them for advanced training. Dh thought no way it’d make a difference. They are perfect angels with the beeps and I set the vibration to 3/8. We did 8/8 initially today.

    Dh went on a run
Said he was only going to go a mile. No idea why he went to the park for that. Prob will turn into 5miles. His elbow is getting better so he’s ready to push it.

    My docs
Ya I added the two that freaked me out. Der. @shanaber sorry you are as bad as I am, but glad I’m not alone.

    @swenson19d -
Did you order the e-collars on Amazon? I am wondering if I should just get one for Hobbes for agility class and for barking control at home. I try to use the trainers at class when he needs it but lately she hasn't been bringing it to class.
I am not quite sure what Hobbes is thinking other than that he needs to protect us/the house from the UPS guy, mailman ar anyone else who might approach the front door. Funny he is great with the mailman when we are out and about the neighborhood. Mailman walked right by us on the sidewalk today and Hobbes barely took notice.
Hobbes does the same thing shaking the squirrel tree, then chases the squirrels. When Beaux was here the two of them had a ball with it until they decided the tree was for tugging and I took it away. Today when we were coming home there was a squirrel coming towards us on the sidewalk. We kept walking and Hobbes was pointing and watching it. I was surprised that the squirrel kept coming until it was just maybe not even 3ft away then was like YIKES! Gotta get out of here, turned and ran really fast back to and up a tree. Of course Hobbes was looking for it everywhere 😂

Not a great run today, actually it was mostly a walk but I tried running what I could. Wanted another awesome run like yesterdays but my shoulder started in with sharp pains and then I was achy all over. Maybe inflammation from yesterdays run IDK but that hasn't really bothered me much since I got the meds for it. I am still hurting just hoping a day off tomorrow will help. I also didn't eat enough yesterday but am making up for it today. I am starving and have already eaten 1300 calories and we haven't had dinner yet. I don't even know what dinner will be. I was going to make jambalaya but I don't have the sausage I thought I had in the freezer so now... who knows? I guess it will be whatever dh feels like going to get.

ETA a couple of cute pictures of Hobbes Fromm today on the trail

Also is anyone friends with @Avidkeo? I sent her a friend request to see how she is doing but it hasn't been accepted or responded to. I am hoping she is doing ok...

@CMorning99 Is there a reason that you don't want to just have Grey Cat's eye removed? I don't know how they expect you to put drops in 6 times a day when you are working. I hope all the new meds help. Yeah for progress on moving the mobile home and getting the floor plan complete. You did great with food tracking. I've been really lazy about that lately and it shows. Enjoy your vacation. I look forward to hearing all about it in June! Interesting article about CoVID. Seems that they should be testing our hormone levels. I thought it was funny that the end of the article said you know the exercise is working if you are sweating at the end. What does it mean when you sweat the entire time, like me?

@shanaber I am not a fan of olives, so you can have them all, as far as I am concerned. There are days that I feel like I am lazy, but have come to realize that I need a few minutes of doing nothing in my life. I just have such a long to do list! Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with it all, but then I get over it and focus on the next thing. I don't "have" to work, but really do love the little ones and I know that the daycare is in a staffing crisis. I do want to start trying to have at least one day at home during the week. Saturday alone doesn't give me enough time for things.
I anchor "time" to another event too...like where I was in the AF or when I met John. I thought I would be able to anchor things on before or after John's death, and I can some things, but there were a couple of years that were sort of a blur, so I have a hard time with that - except for going back to work and playing tennis again. I know those things were after.
Yeah on being almost done with Hilde's stuff. We still haven't managed to close probate from dad yet. The lawyer we are using is more of a trial lawyer and there were issues with the property ownership being traceable. I'm ready for it to be done, even though we are just in the waiting mode.
I am not friends with @Avidkeo and haven't heard from her in a while either. I hope she is okay too. I've noticed that @rheddmobile seems to be MIA from the running thread too.

@shanaber I bought these two on Amazon. It does have the shock function. I don't anticipate needing to use it.

They seem too understand when the collar is on that they have to mind. All I have done is beep them and vibrate the collar. Sandy is more sensitive to the vibration and beep than Kev is. Kev is like "fine", Sandy freaks a bit. But she is in heat and her behaviour is affected.

I chose that collar because you can replace the collar if needed. Seemed most of the others it was where the prongs went through the collar and you had to leave the prongs on, which I didnt want. It's fairly light, lighter than their fence collars. This one is waterproof too so i can let them play in the rain, wading pool, or maybe take them to the lake.

I'm missing @HonuNui and the ocean. I really want to do a girls vaca some day. Just lay on the beach and let the warm sand permeate my heartbroken soul... Immerse myself in the ocean and just be still watching the fishes.

@HonuNui Aww. So glad to see you are okay and still in the ocean. It made my morning. I understand not posting a lot. It does take a lot out of your day. A galcation sounds great.

I had family visit yesterday. I haven't seen my paternal aunt and her daughter who is 5 years older than I since 1978. I woke this morning quite angry, I am still angry. Why are people's brains so stupid and complicated? what is the purpose of being angry? I surmised that it just bought up feelings of abandonment as a kid. The injustice of never being this side of my family again and now so many of them are gone. For a second when my aunt brushed my cheek with the back of her hand, I was 6-7 years old again and didnt want them to leave. Glad I got to see them though. DD got to meet them also.

Summer classes are starting unofficially. Online course work opens a week early. I still haven't heard from the nursing department. I emailed yesterday and nothing in return. peeved.

So I'm trying to be a better student this semester. I am good at half-*'n work. I looked at doctoral programs and ugh. I doubt I'd get in. The APA certified programs accept BS students straight to PhD. Thus all my Masters work is under scrutiny and may not transfer, even if I got in. Acceptance is 10 out of ~250 applicants. Thats impossible for me, I have a lazy graduate GPA of 3.517. I will apply, but won't get my hopes up. So crackin' on!

I have muscle spasms again. horrible. hamstring cramped at dinner last night and I was just sitting. If I move just sitting here, my ribs cramp. My back catches and was buzzy right down my spine. I wonder if it is too much diet Dr Pepper and not enough time on the beach, lol!

    Be well

@swenson19d So sorry you had a hard time after the visit from your aunt. I can see how that would pull up some old emotions. But, I'm glad they made the effort to look you up and come see you. Good luck with school this semester. A 3.517 GPA sounds pretty good to me. You may have a chance. Also hugs regarding the muscle spasms. They are so painful. Is there anything you can take that helps with them? I know potassium helps sometimes. Hope they have calmed down and you don't have more.

Hello all - sorry I have been absent for a bit. Busy days.
@HonuNui - So good to see you and know you are still doing well! Are you still running? I miss your pictures!
@swenson19d - families and the emotions they dig up are so complicated. I think would be feeling mixed too... especially if they hadn't been in contact for so long. When my dad died and my older brother was so sh*** to my other brother and me all I could do was cry. Here I was an adult, a mom, a professional person and I was back to being like when he was such a bully as a kid. It does bring up anger because feeling that way can make you remember good things but also sucks when it pulls up the bad.
I hope you hear back from the nursing program and they can accommodate you or you can find another program.
I ordered the same collar for Hobbes and it came yesterday. Haven't opened it yet. He was so bad at class on Monday I realized we either need to stop going or do something because it isn't fair to everyone else because it eats up so much time.

I read this article this morning and wanted to share it with you all (everyone lurking too, any guys out there it is important information to share with the women in your lives). It speaks to the experience @rheddmobile had at the hospital when she went in with heart issues.

Great article @shanaber . I followed (still should be, if I get the time) a blog that is written by a lady who had a heart attack and was ignored. Her information is very much like his article. She goes to doctor conferences and speaks about her experience and tried to get doctors (even female doctors ignore women's symptoms) to be more attuned to women's complaints about heat issues, but they largely get upset with her even though she has all of the scientific information to back it up.

In this day and age, I can't or don't want to believe that women's health issues go ignored.

DD told me today that she specifically asked our doc for a hepatitis test and he said "you're reaching". It was not ordered. She's has had the same complaints since dec 2020 and we are no where with it. Well, until last week. She saw a new doc in the office and everything she wanted was ordered. They even had suggestions this time. Seems they would want to bill for all the services they can, especially if the patient requests them. She has a referral to a GI specialist too.

With that, we are getting a womens health centre. I recall participating in a survey of ideal services to be offered. Cannot believe that it is actually happening. It needs to be tied to a spa with hair cuts and champagne. I'm ready for some "woman reparations" to be a thing. Add a nice shoe store and womens only gym, maybe a chick cafe and we will all be there, haha! 😛

    Im over being mad/hurt.

    Got adderall script.

Mallory cat was back to the vet today.
She still has loose stools. 208.95$ just yes, let do everything. High powered antibiotics X2, fecal culture, blood work, new food... She gone from under 2 pounds to 6.1 in ~2 months. So hopefully just some nasty bacteria from the egg lady. Who we decided we probably shouldn't use with an open sewer clean out overflowing and 80 birds running around. Follow up next week. If she isnt better I am suggesting a fecal transplant. for real.

    Food
Terrible. weight up. oh well. live on and enjoy it.

@swenson19d I know that some doctors seems to think women "over react" and men don't...which is bull. They should take everyone's complaints serious, unless they know for sure the person is a hypochondriac (my grandmother was), but should still check things out and listen, since it could be something THAT time. Anyway, I am lucky that my PCP is really good about listening to what I have to say and asking if I want to do x or y to check it out, even if he thinks it probably isn't anything. I think he is of the opinion that my peace of mind is part of my overall health, which I like.....if that makes sense. I'm glad your DD has a new doctor that will listen and hope she gets some answers. I hope Mallory feels better soon.

@shanaber How goes it with the collar? I have left it on K&S for 2 days now. The charge holds longer than I expected. I was taking it off to charge nightly but it took ~30 minutes to charge up. Then if the collar was off they'd push it and began to associate minding with the collar. I dont use the shock or the pins and set Sandy's on 1 for vibrate and Kev is on 5. He has the mastiff loose neck! Sandy jumps back when you get her even on 1. They both respond promptly to the beeps. But we have the shock fence that they were trained on and understand that the beep is a warning. I thought about getting a clicker. Have you used it? yay or nay?

DD wanted to take Kev to the park today so we went for a short walk. Hopefully she will get comfortable with taking him on her own. I dont mind going. It was good to get out with her. I expect to be sore in the right hip again but perhaps it'll get stronger.

@swenson19d - I hope your dd finds a doctor (maybe the new one) who will listen and give her good options. There is so much I didn't know and didn't even know to ask and it seems like all the doctors them were just happy to sweep you along. I mean even HRT - I didn't even know to ask and always thought it was bad or not right for me.
I have not tried the collar on Hobbes yet. There isn't much I want to use it for in the house other than maybe barking. I will definitely try it at agility class though when we get back after the holiday.
I have used a clicker and may get it out and try it for the barking. You have to be pretty quick to reward after you click. It is easy when you are doing training and you want to reward for the correct action (you have the clicker and treats right at hand) more difficult to use it ad hoc when you may or may not have the clicker and/or treats handy.

Food today and the last couple of days has been pretty good except dh bought cupcakes. I had a S'Mores one tonight and already regret it. We had salads with chicken for dinner and I had the calories but it feels like a lump in my stomach.

Despite a couple of setbacks I seem to be progressing with PT on my shoulder. My ROM has improved now so I just need to keep doing my exercises. I had to order some small weights - 3lbs 😊 to do what the PT assigned. I think I am going to join the local YMCA. With Silver Sneakers it is only $2/mo and they have classes and an indoor pool. I think it will be good for me for the summer.

Memorial Day weekend is always tough for me. Tomorrow will be 45 years since my mom died in Mallorca. We were getting ready for our wedding and she and my stepdad were supposed to leave on the 30th to come back to the states. I missed her then because she was living so far away and I never got to be with her again. I still miss her now.

We are going to be puppy sitting a friend's Australian Shepard for a few days starting on Monday. Jeep is the same age as Hobbes and they go to the same agility class since they were little puppies. It should be fun.

Dh's brother and SIL are coming for a BBQ on Monday too. Their daughter is visiting from DC so we will get to see her too. It has been around 7 years since we have seen her. We are going to smoke ribs and generally have a feast! I tried to make pita bread that I could make into pita chips. They turned out more as flatbread than pitas. Fortunately I bought pitas just in case so will still be able to make some pita chips 😊

@shanaber Hugs to you. It must have been so hard to lose you mom right before your wedding. Enjoy your Memorial Day and dog sitting the Aussie. That's one of the breeds I'd love to have. They are so smart and pretty....and energetic.

I hope everyone in the US had a good Memorial Day! We were pretty busy getting everything together for family to come for a BBQ, our first in too long! Our niece was here from DC visiting her folks so we got to see her too. We all sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful afternoon. The pups had a great time playing and running around and getting lots of attention. Dh smoked ribs and they were delicious. Of course he also wanted to have hot dogs and hamburgers but I limited him to just hot dogs and even then no one wanted one. We had all kinds of fruit and veggies with artichoke dip and hummus and of course the homemade pita chips that ended up being a big hit especially with my very picky BIL. We have enough food leftover to last us at least a couple of weeks though. I may not need to go to the grocery again before we leave on our trip north.
Hobbes and Jeep are getting along great. Both slept with me last night (I was the middle of a puppy sandwich) and we hung out back this morning when it was still cool. I may take them for a short neighborhood walk in a bit and then I have PT to get to.
