Thanks @quilteryoyo I do teach in my job. Sort of. I'm the clinical tutor, which means I supervise undergraduate radiographer students when they are on placement. So not masters or PhD (yet bahaha).

@shanaber was that you who commented? That meant so much. I rarely actually look at strava but get notifications when someone comments.

I've got to the end of the day an no I'll effects! I really feel for those who get long covid. We've had a lot at work and it's debilitating. Especially when you are so used to being active.

@shanaber I have had body image issues most of my life. I remember looking at a picture from college later in life and thinking "Wow. You were so skinny. Why did you think you were fat?" I'm not sure what it is or why we are so hard on ourselves. I'm okay with the way I am now....still need to get back to where I was about 1.5 years ago, but at least my weight yo-yo string is shorter. (I had something else I was going to say, but my train of thought got derailed. )

@Avidkeo Great to hear that you have done well for a couple of days. That's a fantastic start. Just listen to your body and if you're super tired one day, go with it and take it easy.

I have looked back at photos too and thought why did I think I was fat? I think a lot of it is society expectations. We're all supposed to be young and thin looking!

Also, we need more info in general about women's cycles and menopause. We know so little.

@shanaber I'll take a look at my podcast host as well. The refresh worked on Podcast Addict but maybe there is something on the backend.

I am so annoyed with technology lately! Nothing is working right. I posted a podcast AND video that had no sound. My blog was scheduled to autopost and never did. All of my photography posts from last week only posted on Facebook and not Instagram. Although that did make IG scheduling easier for this coming week, just re-use the FB ones. LOL I am about to give up and go live in a cave in the woods hahahaha

ETA: I refreshed again on the backend. I went to spotify and it worked but I don't have an account so it might be that it got stuck with the old version for you? I've heard of that happening with different feeds/players.

@Avidkeo - I'm so glad you are feeling better!
@RunsOnEspresso - it is definitely a Spotify issue. I can't listen to it on either my phone or the PC version (they synch so reflect the same starting point/time remaining, etc.), but it works just fine directly from your website. I am sure it is the way Spotify is cacheing the download and I know of no way to clear that. I hear you on technology issues, they are a pain in the butt even for someone with that background!

There is more research being done regarding women's health and the changes in peri-menopause and menopause but it certainly isn't enough. I think the aging of the population (and that we tend to be much more vocal) is pushing it. I haven't ordered it by Dr. Stacy Sims (author of ROAR) has just come out with a book on menopause (Next Level - YOUR GUIDE TO KICKING *kitten*, FEELING GREAT, AND CRUSHING GOALS THROUGH MENOPAUSE AND BEYOND) and I have found the Selene Yeager podcast and blog to have so much good information that I wish I'd had years ago.

I keep meaning to read her stuff. Since she's a kiwi she's hugely popular here but I just haven't got around to it. I know she is an absolute pioneer in women's sports and it's awesome!

I'm also very annoyed with technology. My internet is just awful lately. All weekend it has been off much more than on, so I give up trying to post anything. They "fix" it and it works for a day and then out again. I really need to see if Hughes Net will work here, but last time they said no. I think I'm putting off calling because I don't want to be disappointed again. LOL So, if you don't see me for a while, that may be why. Seems like it is always off when I have time to sit down and do something. And, I do have a couple of things that I really need to do that can't be done without it. I love living in my "cave" of sorts, @RunsOnEspresso , but there are some pitfalls.

Well i called it. DOMS have well and truly set in. I love strength training when I'm doing it but HATE the first few days. Always awful. But it feels so good to be back into it.

I'm feeling good (ignoring the DOMS) so will try a gentle 30 min run tomorrow. Feeling confident I can slowly gently start building. I'll keep going easy this week. And I have to be aware there will be setbacks. Its never linear is it!

    Good morning folks!

I am reluctantly back to work LOL. I had 168 emails waiting for me and I deleted all but 3.. Nothing else exciting happened that I can tell.

I got home last Tuesday and so glad I took the rest of the week off. I slowly cleaned out the trailer and put everything away.

The trip was much needed and I enjoyed it. The drive up was very easy and I got settled in quickly. Then the fun began...evidently I brought a mouse with me in the trailer and for 4 days it was a 2am warzone in there with the damn thing chewing and scratching. I tried traps, poison, and finally resorted to a glue trap (I hate them) and the dang thing got in the trap, ate the bait, and then chewed the trap in half to get out. I never heard him again after that though. I also had some power issues in the trailer...IDK if I would ever have another trailer, these things are money pits. It was good to see folks and it was really hot so I didn't go out much. Everyone left on sunday and I left on Tuesday so I just sat around and read and relaxed. Trip home was easy too, I left at 4:45 am to avoid any traffic.

The rest of the week I spent reviving my business and praying I would fit in my uniform (I did barely this AM but I am slouching b/c my pants are so tight.

I have a few things to do at work. Our next exercise is next week and I am on the "Missing" roster so I need to go over everything and make sure everyone is good to go. I have some other boring stuff to do as well. 87 days till I can apply for retirement.

    CATS:
Grey cat did well while I was gone. He is not getting the 6x a day, the best we can do is 4-5 times. @quilteryoyo I think you asked why we don't take his eye out...his heart is so bad that he can't have anesthesia so we have to treat his eye and teeth the best we can. We know it is a losing battle but so far we are able to stay ahead of it and he seems to still be happy to hang around with us. His eye is changing again, IDK if it is just progressing or if the drops are irritating it. He is also just finishing up his maintenance antibiotics for his mouth. Black cat is doing good. We just started his new chemo plan and he goes to see the Doc on Monday.

    RANCH:
I need to call PG&E and have a site survey done for an electrical panel. Our package went to the county last week to split, they have 30 days to issue us a permit number and fees will be due...I suspect they will be around $15K. Next up is going to the CEQA...some Cali Enviro board that meets 1x a month and we are booked for for the Dec meeting and could be bumped to Feb...efffff. I have some paperwork I need to take care of, I want to create a binder for the new owners of all the surveys. IDK if they will still be good or not. No word on the house...patience, patience...breath...

    Exercise/Nutrition:

I got on the scale and I was really puffy this AM, I even took my wedding ring off. Scale came in at 172. Ouch. I now have 22lbs to lose. Tracking today.

I have a 3.1 mile loop around the house. I did it 2x last week. OMG I was so sore.. especially my inner thighs. I figure I am going to keep doing the loop till I can get it down to 35 min (with warmup and cool down). I need to add in some strength too...thinking about adding those 10 min peloton classes of off days.

    Mood:
Feel good lately. I have thoughts of getting motivated again, not to see if it happens and sticks.

    Have a great week!

@CMorning99 Glad you had a great vacation. Yes, it was me that asked about Grey cat's eye. That makes sense. I'm glad they are both doing okay still. Sounds like things at the ranch are moving forward, even if it is slowly. Good luck with the weight. It's hard. I know. Glad your mood is improving too. AND, only 87 days til you apply for retirement. That will pass before you know it.

@CMorning99 yay for vacation! 87 days will go fast!

I called it. Today I went out for a run and had to stop after 10 mins. I just felt tight chested - very mild but annoying. Also very sore with DOMS. So I listened to my body and tood a rest. Fortunately I did. Work was crazy busy haha.

Foods been good today. Feels good.

@CMorning99 - Sounds like a great vacation other than the mouse. Did Dh stay home with the cats? Once you put in for retirement when does it actually happen? I know when I originally asked I was going to have too stay for a few months but then they wanted to keep me on and have me take my vacation (4 weeks) which worked out great because it kept my health insurance active a few months longer.
@Avidkeo - Sorry your chest felt tight again but good that you didn't push yourself and took a rest instead.

I had a busy day with a run in my new shoes this morning and I love them! This evening we had agility class and it was a very fast course with lots of running and used the entire field so we were up and back over and over. The pups all loved it because they could really run all out. @swenson19d - I had the collar on Hobbes tonight and the trainer (a substitute) got Hobbes by accident one time but he was eating grass so it ended up being ok. The rest of class he really didn't go after it much and it made it so much more fun. Didn't feel like I was fighting the entire time with a toddler 😂 Not sure if he was just being good or if he makes the connection with having the collar on. I hope he was just being good because he can't wear the collar at a trial so I don't want him to make that connection and think he only has to be good when he has it on.
Tomorrow is a rest day for the most part. I have a PT appointment in the morning then my follow up ortho appointment in the afternoon. Not sure I will have a chance too run much the next few days though. I am meeting some friends for breakfast on Wed morning and on Thursday we are heading off for the day because the housekeeper is coming. Maybe Friday... it is supposed to cool off a little by Friday so maybe it is for the best.

@Avidkeo Great job listening to your body and eating well.

@shanaber Does Hobbes usually wear a collar of some sort. Maybe once he gets used to knowing he "has" to be good with the training collar on he'd do okay with anything around his neck - or he may just get in the habit of being good. Sounds like you have a fun, busy week. Enjoy.

    Good morning!

My official retirement date will be 1 Sep 23. I am extending it out to the very last minute so we can keep the house and income as far into the building process as possible.

The county accepted our application yesterday and we paid $13,200 in fees. I looked at the invoice and one was $6,000 for an environmental review, I am confused because we paid nearly that already for the studies...so they are charging us $6K to review the studies? Flippin California.

I got the oil change scheduled for the car, I have to wait a month for an appt with a loaner car.

    Food and exercise:

Yesterday I think I came in around 1750 calories. DH and I both got a snack attack in the evening. This Morning I went for a 3.2 mile WOG. My calves are super tight and pulling on my achilles. Lost 2lbs of bloat yesterday, I was a water balloon for sure!

    Mood:

Feel good, although my patience seems a bit thin.

    To Do:
    Call PG&E
    Write job duties for evaluation
    Review 3 records
Order zero water filters (our water was brown yesterday from the base flushing hydrants)

    Best get to it.

@shanaber Kevin and Sandy have become aware of the remote and associates it with the remote. That you could do. I've added high incentive treats when reinforcing behaviour, lunch meat, chicken, today is mini lemon cakes that DH brought home and no one NEEDS to eat. I use the collar on Maggie (buzz) and she just looks around for it. haha! it stops her from running and barking at the neighbours; she's teaching the pups to do it. grrrr. The trainer went as far as having a camera on the dogs so she could correct behaviour. I could do that, but they never leave me alone. Well, yesterday they started going outside on their own, but I think are just being sneaky to eat cat poo and tear stuff up, the flashlight.

@Avidkeo congrats on returning to school! Dr. Kim!

Yesterday was the anniversary of Alex's death. I think it went better than expected. I noticed a text from him that said "wow", may 29th. 2022 at 1243 AM oops PM. IDK surely I did that some how. He died ~1243AM.
    0esmb86t78kn.png
    vvbcpi8c33vl.png
So I text back and it doesnt look like I did it. IDK.
On his birthday I bought tequila. I was contemplating patron vs another hou something'. I bought the cheaper unknown brand and later found both to be in my bag. I gave it to DD as a birthday gift from Alex.

I saw my PCP yesterday, just checked in on the meds and all. I did the ADHD stuff online and found out that they can do it there. Awesome. Online is 60$ a month and they only send the script to Walmart. I hate walmart (here). So moving it will save that and I can get the script there which will be cheaper than walmart because they dont know what they are doing. They tried to charge us 85$ for Maggie's prozac. It is 4$ on line. Dh got them to apply a coupon and got it down to 25. I'd have walked out. ADHD comes with depression and anxiety so those symptoms have been much better.

@CMorning99 Retirement Celebration! Just coasting now, eh?

@quilteryoyo How's it going cleaning up your diet? I was thinking last night about giving up all the pizza and ice cream. I really need to get back to eating better. I have 2 acorn squash that are very ready to cook.

    Morning guys!

@CMorning99 that's annoying about the 6k. Can you fight the extra fee or is it just not worth it? And another year eh? Makes sense with the house stuff. I never thought about retirement effecting your insurance. What do you do for health cover when you retire?

@swenson19 thinking of you! How was your daughter yesterday? I like the sound of Dr Lewis hehe. I wanted to be a dr as a kid, never expected to do it this way.

@shanaber can't help in the dog training but glad you are loving your new shoes!

It's my youngests birthday today! She's 6 and so excited. Today they are doing a class trip to the recycling centre. Then both girls have miniball after school. It's a small version of basketball, I think. And because it's birthday, pizza will be for dinner. So probably going over today but it's only 1 day.

I'm in the angio suite again today which usually means a lot of sitting around. Because of yesterday chest stuff I decided to have a rest day. And run again tomorrow. I'm actually listening this time haha. I don't want to do too much too soon and go backwards.

@Avidkeo Dr Lewis is very nice. If I get that far, I don't want dh's last name...🤔 Happy birthday to the 6 year old! Did you make a cake this year? I haven't noticed a new dashboard. I think it changed here a few months ago?

I wanted to be an archaeologist, which would require a PhD. But I just wanted to dig in the dirt and find stuff. Then about 10 I wanted to be a violinist in the Ft Worth (Texas) orchestra. At 15-16 I decided I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. It is still one of my favourite topics.

@CMorning99 California is expensive! At least things are moving forward. Yeah for the weight loss!

@swenson19d That is so odd about the text. Hugs to you and your DD. Glad you are doing better with the ADHD meds. As for me....no, I'm not making much progress on cleaning up my diet. It's really hard when I am working most days and I cave and eat the food the kids have - it's "catered" and we get to eat any that is left after the kids are served for free. Even if it's not the best, it's hard for me to pass up, esp. when I'm hungry.

@Avidkeo Happy Birthday to your daughter. Cake porn? or did you not feel like baking one this time? Great job on listening to your body. I haven't seen the new dashboard yet. @SummerSkier has it and she is NOT a fan. So, we shall see if and when mine changes.

    Good morning!

@avidkeo Unfortunately it is not an extra fee, it is part of the fee schedule for them to "review" the package and our County is just really expensive. We are able to keep our insurance from Active Duty. The military has really shifted to a lot of corporate style programs like medical and retirement. Before we were only seen by military doctors but now we are seen out in town for anything other than a small clinic issue. The only difference is we have to pay for it once we retire. One of my friends who is retiring was told that finding a job was the easy part, finding a doctor is the hard part.

Yesterday was a day, not bad. My eyes deconditioned I guess while on vacation and so by the end of the day my head was pounding from the curved monitors. But I got some work done. Today I need to focus on the crisis management program since I am a "victim" for the next exercise. Actually an honor LOL You have been identified as a key player and so they take you out to see if it breaks.

    CATS
Everyone is hanging in there. Grey cat has been full of himself lately and quite sassy. He is still on the 5 ointments a 4-6x day and for the last 3 days he has been acting like his eye itches...when I go to wipe stuff off, he leans into it. Black cat got his second dose of chemo yesterday (we went from every 2 weeks to every 3 days but a lower dose) and he seems to be tolerating it well...it seems to give him the munchies...he downed 2 cans of food last night.

    RANCH
I asked for a clarified timeline and yeah, it is going to be at least spring. I messaged my neighbor who is buying it to let him know. He is financing it for a friend of his son and I wanted to make sure that everyone was aware. I am not sure how eager they are to get started. Although they are not expecting anymore fees.

    EXERCISE/FOOD

Food was good yesterday. I am not tracking but we are being very aware of our ballpark calories per meal and trying to not snack. I am hungry so I must be at least under. I should do some yoga and core today, we will see.

@CMorning99 As retired AF, I have Tricare as my insurance. It's much easier to find a doctor here if you have Tricare Standard and not Tricare Prime. I think the reason is that Standard doesn't require pre authorizations before seeing most specialists or surgeries, but Prime does. You would think Prime would be better, but I do think it is just more paperwork and control by the companies and I don't see any benefits to having it. Also, I was using their mail order pharmacy, but they started charging $10 for each 90 day prescription instead of some being free and others $5. I get mine from Walgreens now and the three I get total less than $5 for a 90 day supply. So, I'd check into that too. Congrats on getting to be a victim! Awesome. But, does that mean after you "die" that you have to be an observer? Glad the cats are hanging in there and the ranch is progressing, even if it is sooooooo slow. Sounds like you are doing good with your food too.

I have lost a couple of pounds this week. It's probably water weight, but I'll take it. Part of it is that I am exercising after work and before dinner. So, that makes it late when I eat so I don't eat a big meal. I'll have cereal or half a sandwich or something like that.

Have a great day. I'm waiting for my internet to come back up so I can post this and then heading out to mow my lawn and hopefully run later. As you can tell, I'm not at daycare today. BTW, I am so sick and tired of my internet service. It has been off more than on lately. It's the phone company. Usually, when I get on the phone to call, it comes back on. As soon as I hang up, it quits. They had 2 service calls in a week last month, and it worked for about half a day after each one. I really need to call Hughes Net, but am pretty sure they will say that it won't work because of all the trees around the house. I was so hoping that I could get Verizon Internet when 5G came out, but it is not available at my address.

    Good morning!

@quilteryoyo I think we will go with Select as well. I think Prime you have to get approved based on availability of services at the base, and like in most places we have a shortage of doctors. I have so much to learn! We are trying to figure out internet at the ranch as well. We can get direct TV internet but it is so expensive! So is Hughes. There is a Wifi company that offers internet service only and I think they are $170 a month! My nice neighbor said he knew a guy who worked for Spectrum cable and said we could all go in together to bring a hub in, he said it would be about $5K a property. DH and I were also looking at Musks' thing, starlink? Pricey and a looooong wait though too.

Work is going. Getting things finished with the motivation of going to a proctologist appt LOL. DH is applying for a Gov Civilian job, we hope he gets it. If he gets the higher end of the salary, he won't take a pay cut. He is going against folks already in Civilian positions so he is worried they may hire from within. He is more than qualified though.

    Cats:
    Hanging in there.

    Ranch:
I was looking at Pinterest yesterday for house decorating ideas, but then I started to think about what is plan c if building just continues to be a dumpster fire? I think it is a given we won't have a house before I retire so we need to budget for an apartment. Ouch.

    Food Exercise:
Not tracking calories but making sure when I eat something I check the serving size. Poor DH has had his heart broken a few times when he realizes how calorie dense some things are LOL. Weight is holding steady. This morning was the usual 3.2 mile WOG. I downloaded the Stryd (power) app to my watch, nothing new, i have been using Stryd for years, but I figured I would try out one of their training plans, I keep changing up to keep me motivated. It said that my "easy run" pace was about the speed of a fast walk LOL.

Well, best to start chipping away at things again. 449 days to retirement.

    quilteryoyo Posts: 6,545 Member
@CMorning99 I have DirecTV. I didn't know that they offer internet service. I'll have to check into that. I hope DH gets the civilian job. They really should hire him if he is more qualified, but I know that doesn't always happen. I know this might be more of a pain that it is worth, but when my husband and I built our house, we bought a small mobile home to live in while it was being built and then sold it for a decent price when we didn't need it anymore. I'm sure it saved us some money vs renting someplace for a couple of years. And, yes, it is interesting how many calories some items have that you really don't expect to....or sodium, if you are watching that. Eating out is really hard to find something that is low calorie and low sodium.

Ahh been on call the last two nights. Yesterday was awful, had no sleep at all and was sooo tired. Last night was better, no call outs. Also, I'm organising a study day for Saturday (tomorrow) so had about
