I'm back from my trip. I had a small gain, but I'm not upset about it. Let's talk about food pushers! We visited my MIL. I love my MIL. She has always been a second mother to me. However, as she has aged, she has lots of treats in her home. She put out cookies for breakfast every day and sometimes cookies AND cake. We were there for three days. Three different desserts were made (NOT including the cookies). The relatives who made the desserts wanted to leave them there for us and were upset when we made them take the leftovers home. MIL was upset when we refused the "lunch" she made for us to take to the airport: A large bag of snack mix, 8 cookies and 4 rice Krispie bars. We have tried many times to tell her not to buy/make so much stuff when we visit, but she doesn't listen. We tried to explain that 5 people x 3 desserts divided by 3 days doesn't work out well mathematically and she agreed and then said "eat some more cake"

@Katmary71 - I'm not doing great with the challenge because I keep telling myself "I will do something tomorrow" That is a habit I wish I would break.
My hip seems to be improving slowly. I'm adding some exercise back to see what happens. What is happening so far is a lot of soreness immediately after, that improves by the end of the day.

Good morning,
@TeresaW2024 and @trooworld Yes, I am seeing much improvement in Diesel's behavior. His loose leash walking is so much better learning the heel is a really big part of that. We are still working on heel sit which he will try to see if he can get away with sitting a little in front of me or in front of me. Yesterday we worked on reactive behavior around dogs. Kellie brought Gracie and we worked with Diesel on excepting the fact that Gracie was laying in our yard while working on him focusing on me instead of her. The starmark collar was also introduced which seems to work well with the reactive behavior better than just the slip lead leash.
@Katmary71 The challenge is not going well here. Yesterday after Diesels training session we had to go to Killeen to pick up and B-day present for my son and we stopped by to see John's mom this was around 10:30 at about 12 she asked what we were doing for lunch (we were only supposed to stop in for a few) she wanted to go out to eat so we took her out to get Chinese which was a buffet. You know the rest of the story. Then back to her house we ended up staying until 6pm. One bad choice leads to another. On the way home the John wanted ice cream so we stopped at Dairy Queen for a blizzard. This morning the scale is up. Unfortunately tomorrow will be no better. At the beginning of this yr I decided that I would start doing something for my kids and grandkids for their B-days. My husband helped in this decision when he decided that he needed to do this for his sister and mom. Tomorrow we are going to The Dead Fish Grill with my son and his family for his B-day. Sundays WI will reflect my sodium intake.
I hope everyone has a great Friday!3 -
@Katmary71 What are the must-have supplements that Yvonne says we need? I’m doing well this month with no snacking and staying consistent with my workouts. I need to clean up my meals so they aren’t so carb-heavy. It’s hard in the summer because I just want to make sandwiches.
@Cornanda Yikes on your MIL pushing all that junk food at you! Maybe next time you go see her, you can tell her that you are worried about your A1C, and if she can help you by offering better food choices than sugary desserts, that would be good. If she doesn’t, then stick to your guns, and don’t let her guilt you into eating what doesn’t make you feel good.
@trooworld Maggie is doing much better and is walking on her leg more and more. The poor thing wants to run so bad, and of course, that is a hard no. Hopefully, after the full 12 weeks, she will be able to. I’m sorry that the migraines are giving you so much grief. It’s nice that our husband cooked. That salad looks really good!
Good morning! Today is another day in the house. I plan to pick something to reorganize and clean. Yesterday, I cleaned my makeup table, washed my extensive makeup brush collection, cleaned out the drawers, and got rid of all the stuff that was old or I didn’t wear. I take loving makeup a little too seriously and need to stop ordering stuff!
I’m taking a day off from weights and will do a longer rebounder workout this morning. Have a great day!
Thursday Ice Breaker Question
If you met someone that wanted advice on how to lose weight what would be something you would say to them?
I would tell them to stop overthinking their food choices and start by eliminating all snacking and junk food from their day. I would tell them that diets rarely work unless we get to the root of our issues, which is our thoughts about ourselves. And, of course, I would recommend looking up Jason Seib and his awesome program! Diligent Mind Self Care

@Cornanda – What an awesome job you did while at your MIL, telling everyone to take their desserts home and the constant reminders to her about the desserts. And that “lunch” she packed for the airport gave me diabetes just reading it! Huge pat on the back!
Hopping back on today. Sorry I’ve been MIA. Depression hit me hard this week. I need my house back to myself so badly. Hunter and Michael are having a hard time getting accepted into an apartment because of their credit. I just need peace and quiet. I’m too old for all the chaos. I’m hanging on by a thread.5 -

@Cornanda Oh boy your MIL sounds very challenging, good for you for speaking up! So if instead of doing something tomorrow what if you had a smaller treat so you're having less than usual? I've been trying to do that lately. I'm glad to hear your hip is doing a little better! I was thinking of what Teresa mentioned about A1C and being concerned about diabetes, maybe she'd be less offended then? With my parents they're diabetic too but fine taking medicine though I'm still frowned at if I say I don't eat something to stay off medication.
@trooworld That Oriental Cabbe Salad looks delicious! I hope the headache stays away today.
@txcritter69 I had to Google the Starmark collar. Those are challenging menus/places to eat, good luck! Are you planning to eat something healthy or not worry about it? I hope the sodium isn't too bad.
@TeresaW2024 Do you like wraps? Yvonne has this handout she shows of how 85% of chronic illnesses fall into four categories of issues and that helps decide what to take. As a base a good mineral and vitamin supplement is recommended (she likes Youngevity and Zurvita) to help your body repair, she was explaining yesterday once you have the 90 essentials to repair your tissue can start healing but the way we're eating we aren't even getting the basic minerals for our bodies to function. I take the Tangerine and Beyond Osteo of these (my weak area is hard bone so I take the bone supplement): https://youngevity.com/us_en/health-nutrition/90-for-life.html The company is an MLM but since a lot of vitamins are made by drug manufacturers I'm not as worried about MLMs anymore. \
@vegan4lyfe2012 Hugs and prayers, I hope Hunter and Michael find a place soon.
Hi friends! Got a good night's sleep and got into my backup pack of steroids, for a change they're already helping which I'm very grateful for. We (the charity) got a Uhaul for getting everything to the venue tomorrow for the Salsa Cookoff and I was one of four that helped load it earlier. I'll be at the cash table and am going a little later than all the people setting up. I've been resting and cooking around loading the truck and am looking forward to tomorrow a lot more now that I'm feeling a little better.
Have a great Saturday!4 -

Thursday Ice Breaker Question
If you met someone that wanted advice on how to lose weight what would be something you would say to them?
My advise would be to NOT listen to unsolicited advise. This question made me think back to all the stupid, insulting, condescending, unhelpful, untrue, unproven and unsolicited advice I’ve received over the years from people who assume weight loss is as simple and uncomplicated as calories in vs calories out. Do I sound a little bitter lol?
This question is harder to answer than I thought. There are so many components to weight loss it’s hard to narrow it down to one piece of advise so I think I’d say figure out what works and do it consistently

@trooworld Thank you! That's great news on the headache not being a migraine yesterday! Having a friend go with you to water aerobics is perfect, hope you had fun. Have a wonderful anniversary!
@19shmoo69 Good evening!
@Jactop That's true there IS a lot of ridiculous advice. I felt a little stuck there too answering it.
@bethanie0825 Glad you got the weigh in logged!
Hi team! The Salsa Cookoff went very well it was twice as big as last year's. My brother and SIL came and the practitioner I work for and her husband came and I didn't know any of them were so it meant a lot to me. My neighbor came and helped too. It's our main fundraiser so I'm really happy it went well! Not much else going on I discovered the sprinkler controls SAY it's working but it's not, the front lawn is almost dead so I'm a little freaked out and have my Dad coming by tomorrow to help me with it. Have a great night and happy Sunday friends.3 -

I decided to start measuring my waist circumference because I read about the waist:height ratio as an indicator of health. Since my scale progress is slow and stalled I am hoping the waist measurement will motivate me a little more. My first measurement last week was 45 inches, today 41.5. I’m surprised it’s so high so this was a wake up call for me. I’m 5’8” so I’m lucky to have always carried my weight well but this is a little too much to hide. My goal is to reach 33 inches for a healthy ratio. I know my body fluctuates with bloating from diet so we’ll see what happens over a couple weeks5 -
@vegan4lyfe2012 I hope you get your home back soon! Until then, try to find a quiet corner in your home and make it off-limits to everyone else.

@Katmary71 Thanks for the link for the supplements. I will look into it, as I’ve wanted better quality that will work. I’m glad the Salsa Cookoff went well and how nice that your family and the practitioner came out to support the cause. I hope your dad can fix the sprinkler. I had stopped our weed care last year, which was a huge mistake, and brought it back this year, but it has made my yard look like crap. Hopefully, next year, we will be back in the green.
@megnolia82 Waist:height ratio is such a better way to track your progress than BMI, which has already been proven not to be a good indicator for health.
@trooworld I have gone from wearing so much makeup to being super diligent with my skincare routine. All those years I would go to bed with makeup on. Yikes!! It's a bummer about the pool being closed. Oh, poor Violet! I hope her eye heals up and it’s not something more serious. Happy anniversary!!
Good morning! We have church this morning, and then I need to put in my Walmart order for groceries. I am loving having groceries brought to my house. Why did I wait so long!! Not much else going on. My niece gets free money to use at the farmer’s market, and she can’t eat that much produce, so she brought me a bunch of stuff yesterday. Yesterday, we had fresh corn on the cob, and today, I’m using the sweet potatoes to make fries to go with our fish filets. Yummy!
