I just finished a couple books and decided to go ahead and close out January. With all of the bad weather, I read a LOT of books.
Finished:
FACE OF DANGER by Valerie Hansen
THE SOLDIER’S NEWFOUND FAMILY by Kathryn Springer
I'm not 100% sure where I will go from here. I have a bunch of books checked out, plus KU, so I just have to choose.
I just found out that one of the libraries that I use is going to severely limit hoopla starting in February. All along hoopla books have been pretty much the same from all libraries, but I noticed a difference when Kim couldn't get some of the new books that I can get. The library here is going to only do the more inexpensive books (they said each check out on hoopla cost them between .89 and about $5). They didn't change our limit, just removing a lot of books from the selection. They said they would start purchasing more for libby. They only have about 650 Christian Fiction libby books right now and one of the other libraries has 5700. The other library that I have hoopla with hasn't limited their assortment, or changed our checkouts limits, but they have a quota per day. When that is reached, there are no more borrows for the day. Sometimes you have to get there fairly early to check out books.0 -
Wow, I didn't know that. I get 5 books a month and use them up usually by the middle of the month. Our Libby has only the books that our library has and our library rarely has the newer books. I can get quite a few LI books from the library though, but I don't usually read those because I have so many that I already need to read. I have a book on a wait list and it may be six to eight months before it will be my turn! LOL!
Almost done with BORDEN OF YALE so I went ahead and put it on this months Read list.
I did start and finish a novelette by Danielle Grandinetti - FIRE AND WATER. It was very good and a quick read. I got it free through Book Funnel.
I'm still reading FALCON DAGGER but it's very different than the first two and I think the characters in this one were in the second book but after I quit reading, so I have no idea what is going on!
I'm having trouble getting into REFUGE FOR THE ACHAEOLOGIST by Danielle Grandinetti. This is the second book in this series which all take place in a small town on Lake Michigan in the 1930's.
Still working on LEGACY OF ROSES. I never have trouble with this author's stories, but I'm struggling through this one!

Current: WHEN THE AVALANCHE ROARED by Lauralee Bliss. This is a novel about a huge avalanche in Wellington, Washington in 1910. It's good, but I'm sure it's going to get tense when the avalanche actually happens - pretty soon, I'm sure.
Right now, I am able to check out 38 books a month on hoopla. Bill has a library card that I use for 15, I have one for 15, and then the one that is cutting back their selection is for 8.

Amazing! I'd be happy with 8-10, then I wouldn't have to wait for the next month.0

I am really enjoying CHRISTMAS IN THE CASTLE LIBRARY by Ann Swindell. Several people on the CF facebook page that I follow were calling it one of the best of 2024. It wasn't available on any of my library applications until this week. It takes place in a fictional country in Europe, and a Queen ran off leaving a short note during WW1 era. A doctoral candidate from the states is doing her dissertation on the queen, so is working in the castle's library on a residency.
I will probably start THE HUNTED HEIR by Jayna Breigh. This one just released on Tuesday and I had heard so many great things from people that were advance readers. I could get one library to order it, but it isn't an easy application to get to read to me. I can't wait to read it, though. I will either start this afternoon or tomorrow.

Ooo, my Hoopla has the audio version of the first one, so I borrowed it! Thanks.
It also has THE HUNTED HEIR, but it's an e-book, I may wait until the audio version comes out, but it's on my favorites' list.
I'm reading WIZARD AWAKENED by Brittany Fichter. She's one of my favorite authors but this one isn't my favorite by her. She's following what quite a few authors are now doing, and I'm sure for those who like this kind of stuff it's good, but I don't like stories with vampires and werewolves even when they are in the background!
BY CANOE AND DOGTRAIN a story about bringing the Gospel to the Canadian Indians. I did finish BORDEN of Yale. I think I would have been able to follow it better if I had read it rather than listened to it because I got lost at times as to who was narrating parts of the story.
Still working on FALCON DAGGER. I finished THE RED COAT by Pegg Thomas, an easy and quick read, the second book in this early American series.
Still working on REFUGE FOR THE ARCHAEOLOGIST by Danielle Grandinetti. The second book in this 1930's Lake Michigan town.
Still working on LEGACY OF ROSES by Melanie Cellier, another favorite of mine, but this one is a struggle.
