Marla, is your sister having health problems? Glad Easter went well. Did C come home?

We just got home a bit a go from MN. Long driving day. It rained the whole day and we encountered fog as we got closer to the Mackinac Bridge with higher winds. All went well crossing the bridge and the snow in our yard is gone. It rained here quite a bit so grass is getting green, trees are budding, and the daffodils grew taller.

I am signed up for aquafit tomorrow at 11:15. We will see how I feel in the morning. I'm tired but also feel like a blob from eating and sitting, so moving my body would be a good idea.

    Have a wonderful Tuesday.

I didn't want to get up this morning. I got spoiled by my 4 day weekend. Oh well

Easter was nice and quiet which made it nice and relaxing. It's just my normal week this week. Nothing really exciting planned.

After staying the same last week, I went back up on the scales this week. I know what to do and I need to do it! I've allowed a little to much junk food the last couple weeks and not enough working out. I need more fruits and veggies. I was out yesterday and got some. I didn't care where they came from. So yes I didn't "Buy Canadian". I know my strawberries are from the USA and don't care. I support farmers everywhere. That includes my oranges that travelled a long way to get here - they came from Egypt.

Egypt? That's kind of crazy. I would never have thought oranges might come from Egypt!

My last oranges said they came from Israel

I cancelled class. I woke up achy and tired from the long car ride and not being in my own bed for a week.

Today, I am getting organized to plant seeds for starter plants inside, paint some rocks with veggie labels for my garden and check outside bushes for potential pruning, raking out perennials, etc.

We had a noisy Easter at Hannah's parents. She has a very nice family.

Our neighbors stopped by with their new dogs last night. Roxy, their Pomeranian, died a couple of months ago. They bought two siblings, male and female, from a breeder in Indiana. They are 4 months old, Pomeranian, and cute as can be. Very energetic!!!!!

The sun is out so today is a win so far. It is suppose to rain this afternoon but also hihot 60! I will go visit Sarah at the nursing home later today.

These trade wars are going to either disappear because our idiot president gives up, or create big problems for the world. I have never heard of oranges from Egypt or Israel. I think ours come from Florida or California.

    Have a great day!

I didn't know they grew their either. I was going for the best priced ones, not necessarily where they were from. Though Egypt grows them big.

    image.png

According to the leading countries that produce oranges, Egypt is 5th with the US in 6th.

The top 4 are Brazil, China, European Union, and Mexico

Totally filing that under things I learned today.

Hope you are feeling more rested and less achy after being home a couple of days J.

Yeah, my sister (Michele) has developed some sort of horrendous pain in her face. She has had many dental appointments/x-rays (they say mouth/tooth related), primary care and is now working her way into specialists like neuro's. Still waiting to get scheduled for CT's/MRI's. From what doctor google shows me it sounds like it could be trimengial neuralgia. Which has no easy treatment/cure. From what I read it is like being stabbed/electrocuted by millions of needles/knives/battery cables for hours on end. Michele has a pretty high tolerance of pain and for her to be seeking treatment and taking multiple meds to try to deal with it… So yeah, my niece with a brain tumor that causes unrelenting migraines and now MIchele with near debilitating facial pain. My folks with their plethora of stuff (ie - aged).

Well, I got the 'ding' email today from the job I applied for. I really thought I would at least get an interview. So, I have to say I am feeling sad and sorry for myself. I have what I consider a good work history. But I have to say I have really struggled to get in places. It just makes me doubt myself even more. And to feel trapped even more. Probably go home and eat what little bit of candy I did buy and pout some more.

Interesting facts on oranges. I guess we shall see how they go up in price in the U.S. If immigrants/migrants get deported, and often they are the ones picking the oranges, farmers won't be able to keep up. Import from other countries and our prices go up with tariffs. We need someone sane and intelligent leading this country.

Marla, sorry to hear about your sister. Her condition sounds painful. I wonder if the stress of her daughter's brain tumor contributed to her acquiring this condition? You may have told me something before but my memory is not great these days. I really think this apnea situation is taking its toll on my alertness. I'm in a fog some days.

I went to the YMCA this morning and did aquafit class. I visited Sarah at the nursing home. It makes me sad to see how her cognitive skills have declined.

My new bike rack with a ramp is suppose to arrive tomorrow. Russ will help me assemble and put on my car. Now I will have a ramp to push my bike up onto the rack. My bike is heavy and is hard for me to put on and take off alone. Becky, sister, and I are going to ride on Sunday again. It may be 65 degrees!

Tomorrow I take my car to get the snow tires off for the summer and Fall. On to the next season!

It will be interesting to see what happens after our election on Monday. I was last on Facebook Wednesday. There is so much hatred spewing between the two leaders Carney (Liberal) and Poilievre (Conservative) that I posted I was staying off until after the election. Trump also needs to stop his "51st state" thing. I could go on a rant about that, but I won't. Lets just say he needs a history lesson (or a few).

I know this is harsh, "Trump is a narcissistic idiot". The people of this country voted for him and it makes me mad and sad. I could go on a rant but I won't. As a speech/language pathologist (retired), I am pretty sure he has a language learning disability and possibly ADHD. He doesn't like to read. If something isn't about him, it's not interesting to him. I just want this nightmare to be over. I am glad that Canada, Europe and China are standing up for themselves. I don't watch as much news as I use to, Angela. Politics is depressing and corrupt.

I thought I had given you my results on apnea. Yes I have it. I will see a NP on May 7th to discuss results and treatment. I hope I can tolerate the Cpap. I want to feel better and be more rested.

Snow tires are off! I raked and pulled dead stuff from my perennials today. I sprayed bulb plants and perennials with deer and rabbit repellent. They love new shoots when they are growing up above the ground. I also put a clear coat on my garden label rocks. They look nice. I painted the vegetable on the rock to mark what I planted since my sticks always rotted and the plastic ones blew away.

I saw your veggie rocks on Facebook. So cute!

I hope your appointment with the apnea specialist goes well and that the cpap helps.

Hoping for a good weekend to help kick myself out of my sulk.

Maybe wander around the nursery and look at plants.

Cheeto is an idiot. And a facist. I mostly avoid politics because no one is going to change their opinion, but he is not a Republican and it horrifies me that he puts himself as one

I was "doomsday scrolling" Facebook this morning (an addiction I am trying to break) and saw only ONE political post and it an add apparently thought they wanted me to see - for the Green party. The party next to last in the polls. Canada has 5 parties, though one party Bloc Quebecois, no one outside of Quebec can vote for them, so they make not sense to me why they try for the top position in the county. Though Quebec 78 seats.

In Canada, you don't vote for the party leader. You vote for the Member of Parliament running in your district. Whoever wins for your district gets a seat in the House. Whatever party gets the most of amounts seats, is the ruling party and their leader is Prime Minister. That can and does lead to a minority government. The standings, before dissolved was that the Liberals with 152 and the Conservatives with 120. There are 338 Members of Parliament. It's very close between the Liberals and Conservatives right now with the New Democratic Party (NDP).

Marla, years ago Trump called himself a democrat and was "friends" with the Clintons. Somehow he now calls himself a Christian (NOT), and endeared himself to the Tea Party turned Christian Nationalists. Several years ago during his first presidency, Russ and I listened to a pastor on the radio admit that the very conservative portion of the Republican party struck a deal with Trump. They would get him the votes if he pushed their platform issues (i.e., reverse Roe, prayer in the schools, traditional family values brought back, eliminate rights for LGBTQ, etc.). This pastor admitted he should never have been a apart of the deal and had huge regrets. He stated "we made a deal with the devil". It is all so scary!

Angela, interesting how Canada works. Do you like your political system? In my opinion, ours is broken and has been for a long time. Republican and Democratic parties are focused on being in power and staying there. They begin campaigning for the next election right after they are voted in. They want more and more money each year to run their campaigns and we have to listen to them for 4 years! I like the way Great Britain does it. I think they can only campaign beginning 3 months prior to the election, and each candidate is given an amount of money to spend and that's it. Our gov't is controlled by corporations, the top 1% of wealthy people so special interests of these groups are the focus.

All of us regular folks keep plodding along!

My new bike rack with the ramp for getting my bike on and off by myself arrived. Russ put it on my car today and I practiced getting my bike on and off. I am going to like it. I will be able to go off by myself if I am not riding with my sister or a friend.

I have sourdough proofing in my new bread proofing box. I have the temp set at 81 degrees and am already seeing some bubbles in the dough. I added Asiago cheese and Craisins. I love sharp cheese with something sweet. It will make great toast.

Here is a great tip that a friend gave me if you like avocado. I love avocado toast but avocados are either too ripe or not ripe enough. Too expensive to waste and throw out if they sit too long. She told me to scoop out avocado into a bowl. I used 3 this morning for this. Mash to the texture you like, use a scoop and scoop the avocado onto cookie sheet on parchment paper. I ended up with 10 scoops on my sheet using 3 avocados. Put in freezer until hard, then put in zip loc. Store in freezer and pull out one scoop or whatever you plan to use, at a time. I need to go check on mine and put in the zip loc now. This way I can have avocado available when I want it. I'll let you know what I think of the taste.

The one thing about our pollical system is that I wish we had set election dates like the US. Trudeau said he would do it………………………..

Yesterday for the first time, after it's been here 7 1/2 years, I finally made it to IKEA! Wow. That place is huge. We were there for a good 3 hours. Yes there was a stop for meatballs. My friends that took me have a game they play when they go. Where the kitchens are set up they play a game called "Find the dishwasher". I won a couple times. I was there to get a new filing cabinet/drawers for my desk. I found a nice set. I can't fully figure out how to attach the drawers to the sliders, and I also put the bottom piece of the filing cabinet drawer on the wrong way! I can't attached the little wheel to help open the drawer. So now I need to try to take the drawer apart so I can turn it around! I will see if I can do it this afternoon. It was so late last night when I was doing it that I think I was just overtired.

Today my sister and I rode our ebikes for the second time this Spring. According to my odometer, I rode 18 miles. Becky's odometer showed a few more miles than mine and she flatly said that mine is wrong and hers is right. Cracks me up! My sisters always think they are right and their phones, bike, etc. are better than what I have. Why is there a competition? I'm not competing. Beautiful, sunny, cool day. So little traffic and people around so it was pleasant. Tourist season will be in full swing in 6-8 weeks.

Ang, I hope you can get your desk fixed the way you want it. I like Ikea but their stuff can be tedious to put together and take apart. Good luck!

I am sore and tired so am going to bed. I will be up many times in the night to use the bathroom since I am increasing my fluid intake. I have begun an Intermittent Fasting plan of 16/8. Eat in an 8 hour window and fast for 16 hours. I can have clear liquids (tea, water) and coffee without cream, honey, etc. added when fasting. Luckily the majority of the fasting hours are over night. This is suppose to help burn off visceral fat/belly fat, and I need that!

    Happy Monday!

It's election day. I am staying off all forms of social media, my computer and my TV tonight. I will just check the results when I get up in the morning, I am not staying up for the results as the polls as the polls in British Columbia close at 7pm (11pm my time) and then they have to be counted. (paper ballots)

It took a lot of frustration but I have experienced the IKEA build and have it together! I saw these bookshelves when there that you could put glass doors on. Never understood why. Now I do! To put my LEGO in! I currently put them in my china cabinet (that was my great-grandmothers) but I am getting to many now to keep doing that. As the china is the main thing in there. So I need another trip to IKEA! 😂😂

What kind of Lego structures do you build, Angela? Great way to maintain attention and focus, cognitive thinking skills, etc.

I planted my Broccolini, Dill, Basil and Zinneas in my seed starter. We will see what grows and can be transplanted. I will hopefully plant them in pots and garden in 6 weeks.

Beautiful day, sun, and up to 70! Russ is out planting seedlings and I am on my way to volunteer at Power Book Bags this afternoon.

Good luck with your election, Angela!

    How are you Marla?

    hanging around!

I was hoping for a better weekend, but - ah well. I'm kicking and mostly healthy. Gotta focus on that.

How did your bread turn out? It sounds yummy. I haven't made anything since the rolls a couple of weeks ago.

It is so humid and warm today. Storms moving in. I think we will be on the edge of the system. I think MN may get it from the look of the map.

    Here's to another week.

I am not familiar with those Legos.

Marla, my dough is still cold fermenting in the fridge. I will bake it tomorrow after aquafit. I'm hoping by cold fermenting for almost 72 hours, it will have more of a tangy taste. I'll take a photo for FB after I bake.

How do you upload photos on MFP? I tried and couldn't make it happen.

A little surprised at the election results. The liberals won with a minority government, but it was really close to a majority. Both leaders of the Conservative party and the leader of the NDP lost their own seats. The leader of the NDP has stepped down. The leader of the Conservatives hasn't.

The botanicals LEGO sets are all flowers. Some are beautiful.

I did a couple "oops" this morning, and it's only 8:35! The first is that I overslept. I had no time to make my lunch so I told myself to grab my bank card. (I don't carry it with me during the week to curb my unnecessary overspending.) I didn't. I have $2.20 in my wallet. You sadly can't buy much with that little!

On an exciting note, tonight I can get hugs from all 3 of my nephews! My oldest nephew gets from home from college today! He has to bend down to hug his Auntie. He's 18 and full foot taller then me.

  • jrbanta
    jrbanta Posts: 4,483 Member

My friend in the nursing home has a daisy made of small Legos. Now I get it!

I read that Trump and his antics with tariffs influenced your election. The guy that won has been very vocal about not letting Trump bully Canada. The article I read stated that people saw him as tough and could stand up to Trump.

    Enjoy your nephew time.

Marla, we are getting high winds today. Lots of rain and lightening last night. The grass has greened up and it looks like Spring. Buds on trees are looking ready to begin opening. Yay!

So far, day 3, I am doing well with the 16:8 eating ratio for intermittent fasting. I have to be a little flexible if I am going to exercise so I have some protein and carbs in my system before exercising. If my visceral fat reduces, I imagine it will take a long time to do so. Please let me practice patience!!

I realized something great about Facebook. The little "X" is great to hide all the posts about the election. Though it's getting highly annoying that 98% of what I see is adds and only 2% are my friends.

My oldest nephew is home from college!!! I will get to see him later tonight for a late birthday celebration of some DQ ice cream cake. I love the centre of those cakes!

Keep us updated on the 16:8 eating ratio and how it works for me. I am not sure I could do it.

the center fudge/crunchy part is the best part of the ice cream cake!!!!!

I have been so hungry the last few days. And still up a couple pounds from Easter too of course.

I went out for a mid morning breakfast with my friend Mary. She has a cottage on a lake up here but is from Cincinnati. We had a nice visit. I had to adjust my fasting window. Since I began eating at 9:30 am I had to stop eating by 5:30 pm. I will have some herbal tea this evening to fill my stomach and drink more fluids. I feel like I'm constantly having to find a bathroom.

Russ and I went to Traverse City to look at garage doors this afternoon. We found two that we like and have to make a decision. Our garage has two smaller doors rather than one big door. We picked up more paint swatches at the paint store, then went to Menards to get some rabbit fencing to keep them from eating my perennials. They love to munch them before I enjoy the blooms. I will work on fencing them off Friday or Saturday. Tomorrow is suppose to be cold and rainy.

DQ sounds wonderful right now, LOL! Russ and I were remembering how banana splits tasted as a kid.

    This week has flown by!
