A frustrating Monday for me. Rain showers and cool so George had a shorter walk after I drove to a local field where he can be let off lead. Had a short chat with a couple with their beautiful, large dog I took to be a cattle herding breed and they confirmed since he was a stray they rescued in Crete they assumed he had once protected sheep or goats. I stopped at the local store for a few items but forgot milk so will have to go back tomorrow. Checking my bank statements I saw that Vodafone have been charging me for the landline phone that was disconnected back in March so then had to spend a couple of hours trying to contact online help. That turned out to be impossible but I found a phone number that turned out to be in India and after a long conversation discovered my broadband package had an extra item I knew nothing about! I was so drained by then I agreed to let them keep the overcharge so long as the extra item has been removed. Not a fortune but very annoying and by then it was too late to carry out the jobs I had wanted to do!

I’m sitting with a rug over my knees and a warm fleece jacket on because I won’t put heating on this time of year!

Hi Sandy! I remember my only trip to Florida and it rained a lot! Never mind, just get there safely and I’m sure you will all have fun.

Well done Barbie, fence panels nearly finished! Sounds too hot to do much but wise to get out early to walk.

Lin, I’m also at a stage in life where I can’t eat certain foods I once loved. I’m doing my best to adjust but like you, I do miss them. Rye bread is one!

Very late so I must get to bed.Jackie 🥱

Hello everyone. It was unseasonably cool today. Overnight, I needed extra covers. And it was cold when I showered….brrrrrrr. My second container of lettuce is growing fast right now. My second planting of green beans (just a few) are popping up nicely. I have one last container, I think I will plant a few more green bean seeds.

Jackie, I am sorry you had to spend hours on the phone trying to straighten out your invoice. That happens too often I hope all will be as described going forward.🤞🏻🤞🏻

Barbie, wow, lots accomplished 👏🏻👏🏻 Wonderful

Sandy, in Florida and happy the car trip is over.

I had a very sore foot and decided to hunt through my shoes. I wore one pair for a few hours but they didn’t have support so I tried another pair that I thought were too narrow. They feel pretty good.

    Be safe everyone.

Happy Tuesday! Arrived safe and sound. Lisa’s brother and wife came with their 3 kids so it was quite hectic! Today is a chill day. Will be going to pool if it doesn’t rain. Lisa’s parents went to get a procedure for her father so hopefully he will be fine when he returns. He had bladder cancer and was in remission but it came back so he had another surgery and is getting chemo now but through a catheter. He said he is fine when he gets home so praying. Tomorrow we are going to a pirates ship so should be fun.

I will check in when I can. Have a good day.

it has turned a bit muggy and we had warm misty drizzle first thing so didn’t rush to go out. When we did I took George to our usual moors walking area but needed to wear wellies so driving was a chore because I find my foot can sometimes slip off the brake and that means driving slowly. It isn’t a problem really because the sheep and their lambs often run in front of vehicles so we have to take our time.

Last week I was informed I had won some money on a government run savings bond scheme so today I have been online and bought a selection of face creams, including a factor 50 sun cream, a new battery run pedicure and a couple of pairs of denim jeans. There is a little bit left over for one of my coffee and cake outings with Linda!

I have been tidying in the garden and preparing a couple of pots for growing red kale and Chinese greens but was planning to drive into town because I’ve run out of milk and having splashed out yesterday on rather expensive local smoked mackerel I want potato salad to compliment it. If I go in the next hour it should be quiet.

Enjoy your chill time at the pool Sandy. Sorry to read that Lisa’s father is needing chemo but hopefully it will help him back into remission.

Lin, we seem to be running parallel lives from cold shower rooms to persuading veggies to grow! I have a small electric fan heater in my shower room but restrict myself to a five minute blast! Both George and Brady snuggled up with me in my bed!

I will finish my cuppa then pack up the garden tools.

    Take care

    Jackie 🥰

😀 Walked 200 minutes—some with both dogs, some with Annie, some with Annie and a friend midday and 4PM, some by myself. Exercise bike 138 minutes while watching TV—Bones, Chelsea Detective, Scott and Bailey. Worked the yard 85 minutes all before 11AM—-planted more sunflower seedlings, watered, washed half of one of the remaining two panels of the fence. A bird got in the house and the dogs were delighted. I put the dogs in the fenced backyard and opened the front door and eventually the bird left. Now Annie and Bessie are stretched out under the table and I'm drinking a glass of water. Another fabulous day.

🍎 I eat three small meals and two snacks every day plus a few prunes, plum tomatoes, pecans, and a piece of apple in between. My breakfast is always an Isagenix chocolate shake, midmorning snack is two slices of Dave's Killer Bread with cream cheese and two sliced green olives, bedtime snack is two slices of Dave's Killer Bread with melted cheddar cheese. Supper is almost always a turkey burger (1/5 pound of ground turkey) and 9 ounces of frozen mixed vegetables. Lunch is different every day. Today it was half a bag of bagged Caesar salad mix with 3 ounces of baked chicken breast and a Gomacro peanut butter chocolate chip mini bar. The repetition makes shopping and meal preparation very easy. No decision fatigue for me.

A beautiful day, warm and sunny so our usual stroll on the moors. I stayed lower down on a level area so George didn’t tire in the heat then, once home I sorted the laundry that had finished its cycle and hung it out to dry. A few more chores in the garden were completed and I started to cut some larger branches out of a tree that’s next to the chicken run to allow the hens more sunshine. It is important they absorb it for Vitamin D so they can remain healthy and lay eggs. We are warned of thunderstorms tonight coming across the Channel from France and more tomorrow so it could be a stay home day!

That’s a healthy daily diet Barbie. During the summer months I mainly eat fruit and salads so not much cooking and I’m finding as I get older I don’t eat as much as I used to. I expect my metabolism has slowed!

George is fast asleep in his bed, dreaming and grumbling so I’ve talked quietly to him until he relaxed. My bedtime too!

😀 Jackie, I know George appreciates all you do to keep him comfortable.

    😀 Lin, stay cool.

😀 It's cooler here today but I got up early anyway, walked early, watered early, and did more fence washing. I had to go to the bank so Annie got to get a treat from the drive through teller.

Grocery shopping for a few items was needed so I took George into town and he waited in my car while I dashed round with a basket. The weather changed rather dramatically while I was in the supermarket from cool to sudden heat but I had planned to drive straight up to the moors for a walk and packed everything into a chill bag. Just as we set off for our walk I heard the thunder of horse hooves as a stampede raced towards us and just had time to put George on his lead and move us up to a dry stone wall and lean against it with him behind my legs. There must have been over 50 horses, some with foals, being moved by a farmer driving a utility vehicle. They will get a health check and ensure they all have a required tattoo. After a gentle stroll I drove home, fed the hens, watered tomato and cucumber plants and then shut everything away because storms were forecast. Rain arrived mid morning but nothing heavy so I did a few indoor chores then watched an episode of Escape to the Country and relaxed. There’s been rumblings of thunder in the distance and most of England is on alert for flooding but I will get to bed and hope we avoid problems.

Stay safe on your journey home Sandy. I’ve forgotten, are you flying home?

    Nite, nite 🥱

Hi, I attended a pre class online party last night. And then fell asleep.

Today is the class which may not be something I get a lot from actually. I know the details now.

I will tire out my eyes today. 👀

Jackie, goodness, nearly run over by a stampede of horses!! Now that is something extremely unusual. Glad you and George remained safe. Wow!

    Sandy, safe travels home.

Happy Sunday! The forecasted thunderstorms came and went yesterday and I only found myself dashing for my car once but because George decided to be stubborn and wander in a different direction we both got wet. It was torrential and included hail so I felt sorry for dog walkers I had seen wandering up to the top of the moors five minutes earlier because there’s little shelter! Even the sheep with their lambs were pushing against walls to protect themselves. I needed milk and fresh bread so drove to our local store but waited for the storm to pass before getting out. The rest of my day was quiet and not at all productive!

Today after walking I have been catching up with chores and it is now time to put my gardening tools away and prepare a stir fry. Sheila just phoned me to see if we are alright and I have promised to take George for a visit with her in the coming week. Tomorrow morning I must defrost my old fridge freezer, a job I hate.

A pretty china tea set Lin. Welcome home Sandy and enjoy your Father’s Day outing.

Good evening. It is finally raining a bit. We had an hour of thunder before one raindrop fell. I had just watered the containers on my deck.

The first green beans I planted have many tiny beans growing on them. Yippee! They are quite darling and they made me smile

I didn’t do much today except my ordinary things

My neck was extremely sore when I woke up this morning, I am hoping for a cure by tomorrow

Jackie, sorry George was a bit stubborn and that you got wet.

😀 Hello to all. Same news as usual. Dog walking, walking with my local friend, Zoom call with my friend in another time zone, phone call with my friend who went on a trip to New York City, texting with daughter in California, walking by myself, pulling weeds, watering pumpkins, sunflowers, tomato. Life is good.

😀 I didn't fall asleep easily last night so I had lots of time to read and finish a great book and start another one.

Happy Monday! I have a lot of laundry to do including all the bedding from the bed Cheryl slept in with her dog. My DIL is allergic to cats and dogs so I have to make sure all is clean. I am washing all my clothes from Florida whether I wore them or not just so everything is clean. I was hoping to go to the pool but probably not unless I take a break from the laundry. We are going to celebrate Marisa's 20th birthday tomorrow or Wednesday since I missed her actual birthday while in Florida. One of the four ladies that go out to dinner called me and asked to go out to dinner tomorrow. I told her I had to wait to see what day Marisa wants to go. Then the surprise party Friday, I need a vacation. lol

Glad to hear all you ladies are doing well and busy as usual. We should all be grateful that we keep moving and remain healthy.

    Have a good day,

Hi, a day of exercise classes on Zoom, working on birthday cards, doing some online work and have started cleaning off my deck. If the weather cooperates, I have both the tree trimming and roof replacement scheduled. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Sandy, I hope you finished your laundry. We are advised to use as little water as possible due to climbing nitrate levels. We are to wash full loads of laundry, same with those using dishwashers. Short showers, no lawn watering. No car washing. I mean they are serious!

Barbie, doing the same things is sort of comfortable isn’t it. Are the pumpkins growing swiftly?

Jackie, hello. Hope you and George are doing well. We may get rain tonight. We may get storms on and off for the next 3 days. Sleep may be elusive.

    Take care everyone.

😀 The pumpkin and sunflower seedlings are growing but not very fast. Same for the tomato plant, but I am faithfully watering them. I water everything by hand which takes me about 20 minutes at the end of the day. On lazy days I think about how I could set up sprinklers but their layout is such that they are spread out and both inside and outside the fence so nothing would work and would be a waste of water. In the last place we lived, there a push by the homeowners' association to cut back on water usage. Everybody's water usage was posted online and on my morning walks I figured out the people who used the most water by a lot were the ones with automatic sprinkler systems.

😱 Yesterday during a meeting on Zoom the camera on the new computer stopped working . I tried to troubleshoot with no results. Boo hoo. I'll see if it corrects itself at the meeting this morning and if not, I'll take the computer to the guy who fixed it the time the sound quit working. I don't mind that it will cost money to fix, I just don't want to have to drive to the place to drop it off and then drive back another time to get it. Yes, this is definitely a luxury problem. I have a camera that I can plug in, but it's not as satisfactory as the one installed in the computer.

😀 I do laundry twice a week. Since I wear the same stuff all the time, I'd have to buy more clothes in order to do laundry only once a week. The washer we have (picked out by Jake who was doing the laundry) is huge. My loads look so tiny at the bottom but It's great if I want to wash all the bathroom mats at the same time. It has a feature that figures out how much laundry you have and fills with water based on that.

😀 I run the dishwasher every night because of the dog dishes. I'd have to buy more dog dishes if I washed less often. The dishwasher has a smart cycle that uses less water than hand washing.

Hello and happy Tuesday. Yesterday was one of those times when plans went awry, again! George and I walked on the moors and then, once home I emptied my fridge freezer into a chill bag and switched off to begin a defrost. I had been letting everything run low so not too much was wasted. I have been thinking for some time about purchasing a Bosch frost free freezer but think they are possibly too big for my needs and our energy is so expensive now I have to think about running costs. My friend phoned in the middle of the job wanting to talk about yet another car accident that wasn’t her fault that has left her with her spine out of alignment and in a lot of pain. She should have been in Italy this week for a vacation with a friend she first met in Genoa when they were living and working there but had to cancel. By the time we finished talking it was early evening and I still had to clean and mop melting ice! Finally finished close to midnight, then placed a load of damp towels and tea cloths into the washing machine so I’m afraid I was too tired to post.

I was awake at 6:30 this morning and it was such a beautiful day hung out the laundry then took George to our usual area of moors and walked for an hour. There were a few horses with their foals but no sign of the huge herd that stampeded past us last week. On the way back to my car I saw David so we had a brief chat but the temperature was rising and getting too hot for our dogs so I brought George home, then drove into town for groceries to restock. I’m watching tennis on and off and getting a few chores done but will save any gardening for later when it is cooler.

Barbie, our water is owned by private companies but if there is any sign of a drought, the use of sprinklers is banned by our government. It can be difficult to police but generally people abide by the law. Will you collect rain water if those storms arrive Lin?

The tennis match I’m watching could be over soon. It must be extremely hot there because someone in the crowd is being carried out after collapsing. We Brits still aren’t used to extremes! You’re right Sandy, being well enough to keep moving and active is so important. We all know how quickly things can change!

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe.

    Jackie 🥰

Happy Tuesday! Sun is shining now but rain is expected tonight and tomorrow. Meeting friends at 4:30 for dinner so might head to the pool for an hour. Finally caught up with all my laundry.

Jackie, you are as busy as I am. I hope your friend is ok, has she been in another accident that was not her fault?

Barbie, sorry about your camera, hope it is an easy fix. My monitor doesn't have a camera so I use an external one for our zoom calls.

Lin, I haven't heard anything about a water shortage here in fact my water bill was much higher than usual so I hope I don't have a leak anywhere.

Enjoy your day and keep smiling it drives people crazy.

Hello, doing my usual things but worked to get everything moved out of the way (except for the hose) for the tree trimmer who plans to stop by tomorrow. Also worked a bit more on the deck. Cannot figure out how to save my green beans when the roofer is tearing off all the old shingles. I am sad about that.

I need to get some more exercise minutes in and then tonight is a new release party and I am on the hunt for a 3D embossing folder which is very low stock.

Take care everyone. Must trot along.

Happy Wednesday! Our dinner was great as usual, with an unexpected surprise by one of the ladies who insisted on paying the whole bill. She is grateful for us and for our help in her moving from her condo which she sold to be with her daughter. Her daughter is planning on buying a new house with separate quarters for privacy attached to the home so our friend has her own space. We went to play some slots after dinner and I lost but had fun. Tonight we take Marisa out for her late birthday dinner. We are expecting rain so I hope it holds off until we get home like it did last night.

Lin, are the beans in the ground or in planters? Can't you cover them with a box or a basket? Are you afraid the shingles will fall on your plants? You are having a lot done at one time, don't let it stress you.

I don't think there will be any sun for the pool today so will play catch up on some computer work and other chores including riding my recumbent bike. Have a good day.

Hello sneakers. We are enjoying a heatwave in England this week so I have to get up early and out to walk with George. It’s actually my favourite time of the day and today mine was the only car parked in our usual part of the moors so perhaps others thought it too hot even before 8am. There were 3 horses that had produced the cutest foals overnight so I had to keep an eye on them in case George got too close but he seemed to sense it was best to give them a wide berth! Afterwards we visited Sheila and stayed a couple of hours, then back into town to buy a fresh pack of George’s raw food. I’ve had a lazy day because in the afternoon I watched men’s tennis and once it became cooler in the evening, watered everything that required it. My beans and peas are slow to grow but the tomato plants in my greenhouse are loving the heat, as are the cucumber plants.

Lin, I would ask the roofer to please be careful not to damage your beans. You never know, it might work!

Off to bed now and no doubt an early start again tomorrow.

    Take care

    Jackie 🥰

Hello. The tree trimming crew arrived this afternoon and did a very good job. The trimmed up tree is well away from the roof now. It will make it easier for the roofers. Speaking of roofers, I talked to the boss yesterday and we discussed not only protecting my air conditioner unit but also the input pipes of my generator. Then I mentioned my very big heavy legged planter my deck with green beans (picked the first ones today).

Jackie, He said the planter would have to be moved off the deck. I think it is too heavy. My handyman wouldn’t tackle it even with his assistant. As the roofing crew does a tear off of old shingles, etc. stuff is going to land hard. Cloth, cardboard and the like will not help protect my veggies. I need a big steel cage! He said he will look at it when he brings over shingle samples. He was not optimistic.

Well, rain tonight and the heat will be building to super hot. 95 to 100 by the weekend so we join you in a heatwave Jackie.

Sandy, our water problem is 2-fold. Agricultural uses lots of fertilizer and we have rain in the spring which produces runoff. That works its way into our rivers. Runoff raises the nitrate level and our water treatment systems do not have adequate systems to treat the water to reduce the nitrate level down to safe levels this year. You cannot boil the nitrate away, if not treated, babies and pregnant women cannot drink the water so would have to use bottled water. Each year the set of conditions differs but it is always a threat here. Of course in a metro area, the runoff also is heightened by people watering lawns (lots of fertilizer and chemicals on the grass).

I can send you an article if you want to see more information.

    Be safe
