I love waffles. I've never tried a corn one though - corn is one of the few veggies I really like - win-win!

I did my house walking and upper body weight workout yesterday. We watched a guy on YouTube who does exercises for over 50 people. He was showing a 5 day workout where you did one thing on each day working different parts of the body. I don't necessarily agree with this method because what you did on Monday is mostly lost by Friday - that's why people who do weight lifting only give themselves one day off between working different parts of the body, but they work it to exhaustion. But, I did like the exercises that he was doing. I need to add my shallow squats back into my exercise routine!

Why is it mostly lost by Friday? That seems like a decent way to remember to work out all the various muscle groups. I would think any exercise is better than none. (It does seem like it would take longer to get the different muscle groups toned, but for me... that woukd be more than I'm doing right now.)

(ETA: I read a couple of articles after I posted this and the consensus seems to be that once a week isn't ideal but it isn't ineffective. Sounds like you will see results, just not as fast.)

Anything is better than nothing. I guess the word here is optimal. Yes, once a week will work, but it will take longer to build muscle. As a 65 year old woman, I am not looking to be a body builder, but the once a week would help me to build muscle and I understand that working out will also help bone density. When you work your muscle hard you tear it down. In an article I looked at it said that it takes two to four days for it to recover. If you exhaust that muscle group once a week you are building that muscle 52 times over the year; if you work it twice a week you are building that muscle 104 times a year. I've been told often that you have to be consistent or you will lose what you have gained, and I seem to remember that week long wait won't leave you much if anything from the workout 7 days before. That's been quite a few years ago, but new information may have changed that. For me it is hard to be consistent, but I don't work a muscle group to exhaustion so I can do my arm, shoulder and back exercises every day and not worry about muscle fatigue!

Well, I'm certainly no expert, but I'm a proponent of "some routine is better than no routine".

I have officially lost over half of my goal. I have lost 17 pounds and have 14 to go. That is not to my old sparkpeople goal, but to what I feel is still a healthy weight for me. I may try for the extra 7 pounds when I hit that first goal, but we will see.

Thanks ladies. The walks are definitely getting harder with the heat and humidity, but I have't missed a walk due to heat, just shortened them. So…some exercise is better than none. Today wasn't bad, so I got my 1.5 mile walk.

Woohoo! I'm happy if I can break 1000 steps! I did yesterday, got around 1600 and my right hip and leg are feeling it today. I do praise the Lord, that is the only place - the right side from knee to SI - where I am having pain. Occasionally my hands hurt, but it is sooo much better. My breathing issues come and go. I still haven't heard from the new referral to a new rheumatologist. I'll wait until Wednesday and then ask who they sent the referral to so I can check with them to make sure they got it. I just would like to know if my breathing issues are from the rheumatoid arthritis because if you take meds to help with the RA then it will halt or slow the damage being done to the lungs. I'll know something on the 29th when I have my CT scan. I can't remember if I let you know that my MRI was good and I won't need another for my pancreas for another year! Woohoo. God is good!

Please be praying for a gal in our Church. She is a teenager and having some heart issues. Thanks.

I was still at 235 this morning. I thought that was good because I had a couple treats over the weekend. Maybe having a good week will help it go down a pound or two!

Got about 1.25 mile in today. It was about noon before I could get out the door and it was starting to heat up. I got the full subdivision, but didn't get the cul-de-sacs or double one street. Right now I am showing that I will be a few calories over tonight (22) before I put in my exercise. Bill's youngest made cookies and they were so good! Sugar cookies with peanut butter icing really thin. I have had to have a half of one every day. I'm glad they are gone, so they aren't tempting.

I barely got a mile in today and it was walking circles on my block. It was almost constant thunder and I was afraid to get far from the house, but with the cool temps, I wanted to get my walk.

We've had a lot of thunder in the distance here, but the storms don't come in our direction. We could use some more rain!

Whew, trying to walk in this heat is not easy. I have been trying to get Bill some breakfast together and take a short walk while he is eating. If I wait, it is way too hot. Today, I got 1.1 mile. Not great, but at least a walk. Weighed in down another full pound. I will get there.

I was shocked to see 233.4 on the scale this morning. I shave some off for my clothing, but that number even keeping the clothing amount was really good! Praise the Lord. Down 7 lbs and I don't feel like I'm really trying. I don't have much of an appetite so that has helped.

I got in my full walk today. A bit cooler and somewhat overcast skies. A funny - my new smart watch thinks I am walking when I play the piano. Today, it told me that I had walked 2/3 mile when I stopped playing. Too bad I can't get the same benefits as a walk.

That is so funny. Do you work the pedals rather briskly? I thought the smart watches used GPS to figure how far you've walked, or the movement of your arms - ah! I looked it up and AI says that it does use hand movements to count steps and piano playing, drum playing, or any activity that includes hand movements will count as steps! Woohoo. I could get a lot more steps if I just swing my arms back and forth! No cheating!

Still at 232, still, very happy with that.

This Sunday morning I have my chest CT scan to see how my lungs are doing. I hate to do it on a Sunday, but that is the soonest they could get me in, and my NP said I need that soonest date. I kind of hope they find something so I can have an answer for my breathing issues. Today has been much better though - praise the Lord! Still haven't heard from the rheumatologist, but hoping she is gleaning information or too busy to have seen it yet! LOL!

Love y'all. Take care and be careful in this heat! If your able to get to prayer meeting or Bible study tonight, have a blessed time.

Has to take a shorter route on my walk today (0.91 mi). It was just too hot and no breeze. My watch says I did really well, though…went through Sunday's worship when I put it in my tablet and then again to practice because a couple of the songs we haven't done for so long, I had almost forgotten the melody (and I only had chord charts to go by). One I had to pull up on YouTube and listen to a couple times.

I only have a couple of days left on this job. I did really well with steps (miles) the first few days…

    6/19 12,629 steps (6.10 miles)
    6/20 16,386 (7.94)
    6/21 13,225 (6.35)
    6/22 11,742 (5.71)
6/23 8,170 (my first day under 10,000 steps this week - 3.98 miles)
    6/24 12,477 (5.92)

I unexpectedly got today off and I've only walked 1,304 steps so far. I'm going to walk to the healthy restaurant I like here… so I'll get a few more steps in soon

    Wow, that salad looks amazing!

I get excited about my walks, but yours make mine look paltry. I'm happy with mine, though. When I was working I did much better, however that was several years ago.

You should feel like you are travelling, Connie when you see my steps - more times than not less than 1000 a day! You are a walking machine! Of course, Cindy is one of those new-fangled models - like the Eveready Bunny (I think that's his name!).

I got about 1.5 miles in today. When I walked outside, I thought that it would be a short walk because it felt really hot, but then a nice breeze came up and it was perfect for a walk. I would have liked to go further, but didn't want to leave Bill any longer. Got on the scale this morning and was down almost another pound. I think I am just losing about a pound a week, but I will take that. I am not starving myself, am getting some small treats, and am going the right direction.

I got 1.4 miles. We had a pretty big storm go through this morning and it finally quit raining and I thought that I needed to get my walk if I wanted to get one before it got really hot and muggy like the forecast is calling for. For some reason, I kept forgetting to turn into the cul-de-sac, so I took a little extra turn through the subdivision. I think I liked that better than the cul-de-sacs. It's pretty close to the same distance and there are sidewalks through the streets that aren't on the cul-de-sacs.

You're doing so well! I'm losing weight but not really doing anything to warrant the weight loss. I think I read that one of the side effects of RA is weight loss. I've lost 10 lbs in the past 2 months. That's more weight than I've ever lost in that time period. I'd like to think my body got tired of fighting me, but Lord willing it's just the RA and not something else! Eek, I don't like the thought of that. I'm at 229.8 right now.

I went to see Mom, then went on my walk a few minutes after getting home. It is cool and cloudy, so good walking weather, but I didn't want to be away from Bill for very long. I got 1.3 miles between the walk at Mom's and my walk. Probably about a mile of actual "walking".

Yesterday my watch said I had broken a walking record….Played the piano 3 times during the day. I don't pay attention to what my watch says because of that, but it is funny.

You are walking your fingers over those ivory keys (plastic keys?)!

  • connierandel

Yep, on the electronic pianos, they don't use ivory.
