I'm still keeping up with drinking enough water. It's becoming a habit and I don't really need the reminders from the app so much anymore.

I went to my grandson's 4th birthday party yesterday and only felt a little cheated that I couldn't have any ice cream. I came to terms long ago that birthday cake was off limits (gluten). I did bring one of my "treats" with me to satisfy dessert cravings. One little bar has just 5g of sugar, and it satisfies.

You were very pro-active! Great job, and that way you don't feel so cheated.

I didn't make church this morning. Bill was really weak and wasn't behaving like usual, and was very restless through most of the night. I was exhausted from lack of sleep, and his behaviors were rather scary. Things improved through the day somewhat, so I did take a walk. The weather was cloudy and with Bill home and weak, it was probably the fastest I ever walked my full walk. After yesterday being a bit high on calories, today is a bit low. I guess they work themselves out.

What a great way to satisfy cravings for sweets, Cindy! I'm glad you could enjoy your grandson's party. 4 years already! It must seem like time flies by.

Sorry Bill had a rough day, Connie. I hope your home health or hospice professionals can be of some help.

I didn't do myself any favors this weekend. Wade celebrated my birthday from Friday through Sunday with little gifts one each day. He got me a cheesecake for my birthday - yeehaw. Half of it is in the freezer. It was a small one and I had two slices over the weekend. I also got some soft pretzel bites - oh yummers! He also got me some French Onion Dip for my stick pretzels. I do that occasionally so it was a treat!

Birthdays are exceptions, Kim! And I love Wade's 3-day celebration. He's so very thoughtful.

    That he is! 😊

I went for my walk after lunch and was able to do a little bit better than last time - 515 steps. I quit when my shoulders and lower back started hurting. I'm not sure if I should walk through the pain, or quit, let it rest and try to do more tomorrow! I will keep working at it.

Today everytime I wanted to take a walk it was raining, close to Bill's meds, or I was detained by something. I finally went at 7pm. I wore the same shoes as yesterday, but by the time I got home it felt like someone sandpapered the bottoms of my feet. They are still tender 2 hours later. They are usually favorites for walks, but I have been walking in Sketchers yoga sandals, and these were Sketchers GO Walks. I think that I probably wore them with socks, and didn't today. I will keep that in mind. I did get a tiny bit longer walk today, though.

Short walk this morning, .93 mile. The bottom of my feet are still really tender and the trash trucks were getting in my way. My scales showed a 1.6# loss, but I didn't log it. That sounds like a lot for 2 days when I had been fighting for tenth of pounds in a week.

Maybe your body got the message! Time to let it go. That is perseverance, trying to find that good time to walk. Awesome.

I went a little earlier today and wanted to get more than I did yesterday, which was 515. I kept encouraging myself, just to the end of the driveway; one more lap; etc… I had slightly over 900 steps when I started feeling a little bit wobbly and dragging my walking stick - time to stop before I fall. Praise the Lord, I was so excited that I was able to do almost double! I have 1378 steps so far today. I'm happy to get between 1400 and 1500 a day right now and hope to move up to 1500-1700 soon.

Y'all are inspiring me to keep going! Thank you!

Another beautiful day for a walk! 1.34 mile. Not a huge walk, but as long as I like to be away from Bill for a walk.

Right now I am showing 61 calories over on my tracker, and I'm not sure if I will adjust or not. I was trying to find something that I thought Bill would eat and decided to try burgers, baked beans and potato salad…yep, high calorie and high carb. I should have left off the bun, but I didn't. BUT, Bill ate a decent helping of the beans and the potato salad. He always eats his burgers. Since he finished his meal, I offered him dessert and he ate a mini cherry pie, too. That's the best he has eaten in a while. Even if he finished his meal he would turn down dessert, and I won't let him have dessert unless he finishes his meal.

I've lost 4 lbs. so far. I'm heading out of town today - this will be the true test if I can stay on course. I brought some food with me - a loaf of gluten free bread, some cooked chicken breast, Swiss cheese, lettuce, celery and jicama for salad, some Honeycrisp apples and small peaches (I'm realizing I forgot the hummus to go with my celery) … and then some other things for treats to replace cookies/candy.

Besides the crispy rice bites from Trader Joe's, I found these… 3g of added sugar per half cup. But usually a chunk or two will satisfy - I don't need the full 1/2 cup serving.

Chocolate Coconut Clusters.jpg Chocolate Coconut Clusters - back.jpg

and from Coscto, these… they're like little, less sweet Mounds bars. I'm training myself to accept just one as my treat. It's a learning curve. But I am serious about getting my insulin number lower. I'm planning on re-testing in 3 months.

It is hard to keep from having a treat, especially when your husband has a huge sweet tooth! I try to rein him in because if he offers me something it's really hard to say "NO"! Especially if it's ice cream and it's a hot day. Sigh!

No walk again today, just too warm this afternoon. I'm super tired as well. I laid down after I was on the computer doing my Bible Study this morning, I could hardly keep my eyes open!

    Down .6 of a lb to 231

I got a good walk in yesterday, but got a couple of sprinkles in the process. Everytime I thought I was going to have to cut the walk short and get home, the sprinkle (VERY light) would stop. Actually wound up a very enjoyable and cool walk.

I weighed in again this morning was it was 4/10 of a pound over the last weigh-in that seemed too low. I counted it. Now, I have less than 5# to my first goal, then we will see how much further I decide to take it. I really don't care to get quite as thin as I was for that 10 years that I maintained well, but want a little wiggle room. And since I got rid of the really skinny clothes, I will be happy just fitting in my smaller sized clothes that I already own.

Oh, to be able to fit into skinny clothes! I need liposuction to be able to do that, but I am surprised that as much as I do weigh I'm not in gigundo clothes.

Too hot for a walk today.

No walk today. I ran to see mom, then got home and gave Bill the diuretic. I knew we would be going to the bathroom a dozen times today. Sometimes he knows he has to go, but leaks all day long. Hopefully he gets rid of this edema and this will stop. I don't know if this is permanent or will be as needed.

Wow, I hope it will work quickly!

I did get in a walk this morning. It was a beautiful breezy 74 degrees. I was able to do 950 steps, about then my shoulders were hurting. During part of my walk, Wade was coming down the driveway and I stepped off to let him by and just kept feeling like I was going to fall. I'm glad I had my stick! They stopped to make sure I was alright (Wade was with our pastor and they were headed to the dump and then out to do some sharing with the fishermen in a nearby town). I think that where I stepped off was slightly downhill and that just threw me off. I was fine once I got back on the flat driveway! Scary! I'm at 1279 steps so far today, or .5 of a mile. I'll be happy if I break 2,000 steps! Tomorrow I am going to reach for 1000 steps!

232.4 on the scale this morning.

With Bill being a handful, I just walked to the bank. That is basically a block away and is quicker to walk than to drive. Last night I did a few exercises and it felt good, so I think I will go that direction again tonight.

I was able to get a walk in but not as many steps as I would have liked. My legs were just aching and I was hoping it was muscles rather than joints - I think it was some of both. I did get about 850 steps in that walk, I have 1,381 so far today. I really wanted to get 1000 steps today, but we'll give it another try tomorrow, Lord willing! When I start dragging my walking stick I know I need to quick, I don't want that to cause a fall!

Today is usually my early walk and it was storming this morning. After it was done raining, I had to wait around the house for the 2 nurses. Tonight I was going to get my walk and got a text from a guy that used to live here, and I got an important piece of his mail. He was supposed to be by this evening, but who knows what time….Inside exercise again, I guess. I don't know how to track these, but they really loosen my joints, so I feel good after doing them.

Not much today. Having quite a bit of weakness and pain in my legs. I did take a nap this morning. I woke up after 7 hours of sleep and could hardly keep my eyes opened. I slept for just an hour, but that took the edge off.

We had a week of higher temps here, but it's been in the 70's this week. I'm going to have to wait at least another day before I will walk again - ugh!

I have not been able to leave Bill for my walks…and I really miss them. Yesterday, I knew that he wasn't up to his bath and canceled the CNAs visit. I found out today from his care coordinator that I should have had her come and instead of using her for his bath, to use her for about a half hour to do babysitting for a nap, walk, etc. This is something that has to be in the patient care plan, but it is in ours…and the CNA gets paid instead of having her hours cut. It would have been good for all of us.

It sounds like that might be a nice thing to be able to do in the future. Keeping you in my prayers.

I spent 8 days out of town, eating healthy (and no desserts other than either one dark chocolate coconut bar (3g of sugar) or crisped rice peanut butter bar (5g) that I brought with me. I got at least 7,000 steps a day (my room was 3/4 of a mile walk from the meeting space in another, connected, hotel.) I just checked - twice I got 11,000 steps, and on the day I had two hours off, I walked back to my room to eat a sandwich and relax a bit and ended with over 15,000 steps. Also, I reached my goal of 72 oz of water 5 of the 8 days I was there. There are two days that I only got 64 oz, and one day only 68… but otherwise, I did much better than I used to. And… twice I did maybe 20 minutes of exercise in my room. With all that, I only lost 1/2 lb. It's a little disheartening. 😞 Not enough to change what I'm doing. I'm hoping maybe it's just taking my body a little longer to figure it out. I'm at 4.5 lbs. lost so far.

Oh, they should have let you know that that was possible, especially when you called to cancel.

I'm still not up to walking again. Both of my legs have been hurting and today is the first day I've had some relief from the left leg's pain - but the fatigue is just awful! Most of the time I just want to close my eyes and fall back to sleep. I'm going to leave out one of the pills I take at night and see if that helps with the overall sleepiness. It's one that I'm taking for pain and to help me sleep, but the pain isn't as much of an issue because the other two I take are also for pain. We'll see.

Evidently this is something that is not well known. The letter went out yesterday to the CNAs. This is a great way for them to not lose hours, and for caregivers to get a break when things get really complicated. I know that there are probably times that I will need a break more than Bill needs a bath. I usually keep him clean, anyway. She keeps him clean, feet soaked, and well moisturized. I don't usually do the feet soaking or moisturizing.

After everything that happened on Thursday, I stress grazed all day long. I got back to my norm on Friday, so hopefully I didn't hurt myself too much by eating my entire normal daily calories between 3am and 7am.

Today, after all that happened last night, Bill was sleeping so soundly that I took an abbreviated walk. I probably would have taken a full walk, but it was HOT! Boy, I enjoyed the pre-fall weather more than this 2nd summer weather.

Got a decent walk in today. And had taco salad for dinner. Don't know why I needed to share that, but it was so good! Bill had gotten to where he wouldn't eat salad anymore, so I quit buying lettuce. A few weeks ago my grocery order had a small bag of shredded lettuce in it, that they didn't want back. I wondered if he would enjoy a salad with shredded lettuce and he ate the whole thing. Now I can enjoy salads again! WooHoo!

Yay! I really like a taco salad, it's pretty much to only salad I've wanted recently. Wade always has salad fixings in the fridge so I might try to make one when we next have taco meat. This hamburger went into smash burgers - yum. I don't do the bun, but just the burgers and cheese are so good.

Walking will be out until my toe heals, it's hard to get around with a sprained/broken pinky toe! Praise the Lord that leg (the left one) isn't as painful as it has been. God is so very good.

Also having a salad for dinner, but mine will more than likely have lettuce, cucumber, avocado, chicken, feta, grapes and marcona almonds with a little Fuji apple dressing. (I would use apples slices, but I don't have any.)

  • Restfinder
    Restfinder Posts: 3,666 Member

Oh, how do you make that Fuji Apple dressing? I have some Pink Lady right now. Well, I looked it up under recipes as well as under shopping. Walmart has a deal for three bottles. The recipes used apple juice (which, if you can find Fuji Apple Apple juice you're doing good), Mott's specifically, which I wouldn't want to use unless it was unsweetened. Maybe I will add chopped apple, apple cider vinegar, and a wee bit of Stevia and see how that comes out, then I can play with spices if that is bland. I haven't had a salad in awhile, but if I had a good dressing for them, I might try getting into them again. I'll be doing a smoothie tonight with my yogurt salad ingredients and some carrots, that way I get some veggie in there too. Oh, I'll use frozen berries to make it cold and a little more vitamins than an apple gives.

Will wait until Monday to start walking again. When I am on my feet a lot the pinky toe hurts and the bruising gets darker. When I'm done here I'll put my feet up until dinner time.

I put up a Blog post on that thread about taking a stand for Jesus in these chaotic times, just as Charlie Kirk did. We can't be him, but we can be who God made us to be.

    Love y'all!
