Good morning, Slytherin, I am glad to be back at Hogwarts. I spent the summer and fall terms in Hufflepuff but have just transferred here. What a beautiful green tree to greet us as we settle in by the Fireplace. I'm Fran and live in sunny, sunny southern California. This is a really nice time of year with cooler mornings…

I am not diabetic but my spouse is and has been for awhile. Myfitnesspal is an excellent tool to track what you are eating. I suggest you read all the permanent posts. Buy a scale and weigh your food. My 1/2 cup oatmeal was about 20% more weight when weighed on a scale than I expected and thus 20% more in calories and 20%…

Well, depends. Deadheading flowers would be light activity. Double digging flower beds would certainly get my heart rate up. Judge by heart rate/sweating ect.

Start by logging every single bite. Read the posts at the top. Commit to working at this. Figure out ways to have fun with this. ie make it a game.

I stick a fitbit in my pocket. My hands are free and it doesnt show. It synchs with myfitness pal and adds calories to my quota. I shoot to eat about half of those extra calories. My work has big swings in activity. Some days I walk 5 miles and some days I sit all day. The fitbit helps me figure out what calorie target to…

I am currently trying to hit the preset micros and macro for the amount of calories that are the goal. I mostly track calories and fiber. I do pay attention to carbs, fat and protein and try to get them in line. I am still working on it. I do weigh daily only because it helps underline the fact that 1 to 2 pound swings are…

I am learning to take the long view. So I start thinking, gee, I failed because I did not lose 20 pounds. But Stop-this is the lowest weight I have been in 3 or 4 years and the year is not over yet. I am also down a pant size in just this challenge.

My goal was 20 pounds and I lost 10 pounds during this challenge. Lost about a dress size too!

Interesting. Submitted an app. Will await an owl.

Thank you, Balanced Walker! I am happy there are sequals!

Excellent! Great progress!

What I saw suggested was to eat to the calorie goal plus 1/2 the exercise calories. So calories are added for exercise but people here feel that the exercise calories are an overestimate. Adjust your calories based on your weight loss. ie, eat a little less or exercise more if you do not lose weight.

Wow, excellent work on the weight loss. What an inspiration! Perhaps you need to change it up a bit. Eat more calories for a couple of weeks and try a different fitness routine. Then go back to weight loss calorie amount. And check that the portions have not creeped up.

Both are units of energy: "The difference between calories and kilojoules is rather like the difference between miles and kilometres. Kilojoules are the metric equivalent of calories; 1 kJ equals 0.2 calories." http://www.heartfoundation.org.au/healthy-eating/mums-united/articles/Pages/kilojoule.aspx Yes, I googled for…

Perhaps you mean the big red dot at the end of each line of food? It's a round red circle with a minus in it. That's a delete button. If you make a mistake and need to remove an entry, click on the red button at the end of the row.

Read this: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1 It's pinned in Getting started section. Log everything you eat. Every day whether its great or not. Move a little more. Make friend requests and join challenges. Talk about what's going on with you.…

I just amused myself by searching the food database for beer and homebrew beer. A whole lot of people drink and log beer. No worries there.

Love these quotes! I will wear black for the flat and go buy Ulysses - Lord Alfred Tennyson! Wish there was a like button for you all.

Welcome to your new life. I would suggest logging what you eat for a few days. While you are logging food, read all the pinned posts at the top of the page. There is a lot of helpful information there. You will find this is not a food prison with punitive exercise thrown in for evil kicks. Set reasonable calorie goals and…

Hello everyone! I am from southern California which is a cool rainy place today. Looking forward to our challenge. I work and have a retired spouse. Love books, cooking and yes, a little wine or home brew every now and then. I think life's challenges are stressful and taking care of others really makes it hard sometimes to…
