I have been trying for years to get a little lighter. But I never stick with it. My husband and I suffered 2 miscarriages in 2012 and I want to get on a better place with my body to try again. Anyone have and tips on sticking with a diet? Growing up all I ate was fast food. So I have no idea how to cool healthy anything!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Determine what your calorie needs are and make sure to meet those goals as much as you can without making yourself miserable. For example, if you want a few oreos one day make sure they fit in your calorie goals. Take it day by day and don't beat yourself up if you go over on calories. Work on building healthy habits that you can sustain for the long haul. Check out Clean Eating magazine, the Better Homes and Gardens Cooking Light Magazines, Taste of Home Light issue, and similar magazines that have lower calorie meals that you can whip up quickly. I have several of these magazines that I look through every few weeks for new meal ideas and I create a monthly dinner plan to help keep me on track. There are times I have to switch these around because life gets in the way, but it helps me from eating out all the time because I know I have the stuff that will go to waste (fresh veggies) if I don't cook that meal.

You can add me if you would like.

To get me started, I cut out most of my carbs which was a little hard at first because I am a bread and butter addict! I stopped all the white carbs for a month and then only added back my little thin bagels. No bread, potatoes, pasta, or rice and stuck mostly to high protein stuff. My main meals at the supper table are always 1 meat and 2 vegetables and that's it. I stay full and under 1300 cal are thin slice 100 cal everything bagel with low cal lunch meats and I eat a lot of chicken and tuna. To keep sodium down so I don't retain water, I use spicy Mrs. Dash on about everything or hot sauce and I include low fat cottage cheese mixed with all kinds of stuff like salsa or capers. I keep a half gallon of Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk if I get a sweet craving, I drink about a quarter cup of that and it satisfies my urge. Follow lots of folks on here to get ideas and see what they are eating and doing and what keeps them motivated. Good luck, you can do it.

You can eat fast food and lose weight. Just eat less than you normally do and go for a walk

Thing I don't like about fast food is that you're still hungry and you need to look for more food, that and they have empty calories with no nutrition the The bread is stripped of nutrition and their attitves/sugars and everything there is
I noticed that I am much less hungry when I eat a lot of cooked and raw vegetables with some meat for dinner .what help me lose the last 30 pounds was I read ,and you can get it from the library ,wheat belly it's very encouraging and teaches you why u need to cut out the white breads and pastries .once you read you have great difficulty wanting to turn back :-) you can add me if you'd like..I go to the gym three times a week I love logging into my fitness pal definitely keeps me on task and 80% is what you eat so you need to make that change first.and I should add I prayed about it and I received the strength and willpower I needed! :)

    Read this:
    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

It's pinned in Getting started section.

Log everything you eat. Every day whether its great or not.

    Move a little more.

Make friend requests and join challenges. Talk about what's going on with you. That is so helpful.

And talk to your Dr. about vitamin choices and things that will be important when you are pregnant. Don't wait--it will help you get healthy, too.
  • Thanks for all the advice and tips. This is definitely a challenge... When I'm at work the people around me snack all the time!! I'm going one step at a time and keepingy entries up or at least trying...

Find a few healthy meals that you love and learn how to make them. When they start to get boring, learn a couple more. Make easy things like salads (be careful with your dressings!) and sandwiches, and log everything!

Learn all you can about living healthy. I won't lie, it's a long process, especially if you are starting from "zero", but it's definitely worth it. You''l be taking control of your OWN health and eating, not being a puppet to ads and status quo. A year from now, two years from now, you'll look back and say "man! I'm doing great! I want to go further!"
    GOOD LUCK!

When it comes to healthy/low calorie cooking it's all about practice.
The internet is full of wonderful and easy recipes.

The most important thing to remember is to keep trying, make small changes and remember why you're doing this! I can't think of anything more motivating than a baby :)

What you will always hear on MFP is "eat less, move more", which is true, but if you're looking for a "healthier" lifestyle compared to a fast food lifestyle, try and eat 5 serves of veggies every day and drink lots of water. Good luck!
