Got my 3 monthly bloodwork on my 63rd birthday last week. The doctor took me off metformin (my only diabetic medication) in April 2016. My A1C was 5.3 on Friday!!!! He took me off my statin 3 months ago and all my levels are great..super good HDL apparently so I am good staying off that and he is tapering me off my only…

Your liver will dump from detecting that you need food..i eat a serving of plain Greek yogurt and a small piece fruit like blueberries. You could eat some almonds or 1/2 PB sandwich If you can eat bread? The other thing is the timing of your snack. I tend to eat my snack later now because I was taken off Metformin and so I…

Good for you Ralf! I believe there is no one size fits all for diabetes. We are all different...however our commonality is blood sugar issues lol!
-
I have never heard of that. I would say to avoid anything that seems like a fad...

Ralf, 30 net carbs?!?! I eat about 190-220g carbs a day and consume 35-45g fiber daily... I couldn't manage on what you do. I wouldn't stick with it....sustained proper eating is a must...I mean Christmas and holidays must be a drag. I do watch but have some treats. I will say I avoid refined carbs on a regular basis and…

I do remember her and so sad!!!!! It's better approach IMHO to do it slowly and less restrictive. I love my dietician and she helped me get the diet plan that works for me. I think you are doing great Judy and despite your challenges with FBS the doctor must be pleased and you feel great!!! Personally I would never do that…

I don't take meds for type 2 diabetes and have been off them since April 2016. I eat all food groups, at currently training for 10K run and almost 63. I eat a balanced diet of all food groups...very little processed and my A1C is 5.4. It's obviously not in the 4s but I feel great and my diet certainly is less restrictive…

Good Judy!!! Hope you are feeling much stronger and better now!! The more regularly you can eat about the same carbs per meal and have snacks and do whatever exercise/walking and things the more stable your blood sugar will be. I know you are just getting back into eating regular meals!

Wow awesome Judy!!! We were FBS twins today!!! 5.2 is fabulous and definitely feel proud!!!!!

FBS 4.6 (83) and it's been 7 months since my doctor took me off my diabetic meds (Metformin) Have to be waaaay more diligent every single day. No medicine to help out. It's much more difficult off the meds to be honest. I am very strict about exercise and what goes in my mouth.

Excellent work!!!!!! Yes jvcjim!!!!!!

Welcome!!! If you are able try and see a dietician and also walk at least 10 minutes after you eat. Walking/exercise will help lower your blood sugar. Also, try and avoid "white food" such as white rice, white bread etc and eat more veggies (not starchy ones) drink at least 8 cups of water per day. There is not one diet…

Happy Thanksgiving!! Hope you had a wonderful day!!

Welcome Chris!!!! Definitely a great goal!!! I am almost 63 and diagnosed with T2D April 2015 and now I have lost 75 lbs and I use diet and exercise to control blood sugar. Dr took me off Metformin 6 months ago. I eat all food groups but watch carbs obviously. I also took up more vigorous exercise including running and…

Great job on the downward trend!!! Keep on going!! You can do it. It's a learning experience on this diabetic journey!!!!
-
Excellent A1C!!!!! You should be so proud!!!! All your changes paid off!!!!

Crossing fingers for you!!!!!

4.4 (79.4) slept in as I finished running at 10:30 last night (5K) and 22k steps yesterday!
-
Thank heavens for you Judy!!! Much better! I thought that sounded too extreme! (To say the least haha)
-
4.9 (88.4) still not 100% after my barfarama. I have frantic acid indigestion and I am still weary feeling.
-
Your new hair do is great!!!! Awesome!

4.2 (75.8) Sweating when I woke up...I ran 6K last night at 10pm. I ate a huge apple and some Icelandic plain yogurt for snack at 11pm when I came home. Thank heavens I did!
-
Mine was 4.8 (86.6) this morning at 6am

Veggies have lots of fiber in them even if they have carbs...it prevents/slows the blood sugar spikes. Even if I have a ton of veggies my blood sugar is never as high as if I eat bread or pasta or cookies...even if the carb count is the same. Different effect.

Well done!!!!
-
Ha! Glad it's sorted out now!

One thing might help...I eat apples every day but rarely eat an entire apple unless they are small. They are really good for you but pretty carby. I cut apples in half and usually just consume around 2-3 ounce apple. The usual normal size apple here is almost 6oz!! Many carbs lol! Anyway just an idea.

You can do it. Every morning and how ever often you have to, say to yourself you can do this. I repeated it all the hours of my waking day at first until I knew I could do it. Now I say it every morning and when I am feeling discouraged or weak. We can and we have to do this!! An army of diabetes warriors. We are…

I have some kidney involvement and I get you...scarey stuff but it's shocking what an epidemic it's become including kids...

This might be helpful. On the days I am heavy on the protein at dinner, the next morning my FBS will he higher. I know that sounds weird but it has happened on many occasions. I know protein isn't supposed to affect bs but it shows up next morning for me.
