Lift, girl. Start lifting now. People who are overweight actually tend to have pretty nice muscle mass (it takes muscle to move bigger bodies around!), but when they start losing weight, many of them lose a lot of muscle. This can be from poor diet, but mostly it's from too much cardio and too little strength training. If…

Definitely do it!!

Very impressive - and the new tattoos look great!

Consistently challenging exercise.

I'd strongly recommend against eating 1200 calories a day. It is very difficult to maintain, and won't support exercise. I work out five days a week, which would be a lot for some, but I managed to lose 10 pounds in three months (starting at an already normal BMI) eating 1800-2000 calories a day. A lot of people here…

For pills I take a multivitamin with iron and a B50 vitamin. Supplements are whey protein powder, creatine monohydrate, strawberry lemonade Nuun tabs in my water bottle, and sometimes energy/endurance gels for a hit of carbs mid-run.

Yay yay yay on the protein powder. I use Vitamin Shoppe's brand of whey protein isolate. I think it's called Bodytech. The french vanilla flavor is delicious! I make a smoothie with a scoop of that, vanilla Greek yogurt, spinach, frozen strawberries, almond milk and almond butter. Usually that's my second lunch. About 500…

Thank you! I'm 25.

Thanks y'all  I'm so glad I found CrossFit. It has totally changed the way I see exercise (as in: it's not all cardio, and it's not all about what you look like). Crazy that after I stopped caring about being skinny, I'm the fittest I've ever been!! Forgot to mention, for reference: I'm 5'8. I started at 156 and…

I don't think so, either. OP, no one is trying to make you feel like a whiner or a failure! I just think your situation is pretty simple: if you're unhappy with your burn, then think about trying something different so you can burn more. If you're eating at a deficit, but not losing like you should, then--barring thyroid…

More veggies and less dairy, pastas and breads. It all comes down to CICO--calories in, calories out, meaning that theoretically it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you burn more. But when I meet vegetarians who are overweight, they are almost always overdoing the breads, the dairy, the pastas. Veggies will fill you…

I'm just echoing what everyone else has said: I think your FitBit burn sounds pretty accurate for your stats and activity level, @rosebette. I know you've said that you walk around campus, sometimes pulling a rolling suitcase, and feel that is somewhat of a workout. I disagree. I think it's a mistake to count daily…

Chicago? You gotta eat deep dish pizza!

If you go to the southern US, eat at the most run-down, hole-in-the-wall soul food restaurant you can find. Order EVERYTHING. They will have THE BEST EVERYTHING you have EVER put in your mouth.

Yeah, those temps suck. It regularly gets that hot here. In my experience, you've just got to set the alarms and get up early! Out the door by 7:30 AM, back inside by 9. At 9:01 exactly, it's too hot to do anything but melt.

Stretching as soon as you wake up, before you work out and before you go to bed, Ibuprofen, icy hot, tiger balm, 20 minutes of icing followed by a hot, hot bath and compression sleeves! Leg soreness sucks. Good luck, Karen!

Hmmm. If there's no use discouraging your sister, I would tell her doctor that she is definitely going to work out, and get the doctor's advice on how to proceed. If the doctor is not willing to give it, find a doctor who will. It's probably not a good idea to completely discount your current doctor's opinion without…

Good on you for buying from a local store! Hope these work out for you!

I shoot for 125g on days with running *and* CrossFit. I go for 100g on days with just running, or just CrossFit. Sometimes I totally eff up, but most of the time, hopefully, I don't.

Marathons! Ultras one day. :p

Butter, girl! Cheese! I'm training to be a long distance runner and I've noticed a big uptick in my performance since I've hiked up my fat and protein intake.

I didn't watch them, but I follow all the top competitors on Instagram - very inspiring!

Yep, I do Crossfit. Hardest thing I've ever done is Sweatshop, which is like CrossFit HIIT. Did it today and my arms feel wooden! Can't wait to go back tomorrow! :p

Oh, also, if you're usually hungry after a protein shake, eat a salad with it! My FAVORITE meal now is a chocolate nut protein shake (half vanilla soy protein powder and half vanilla hemp, vanilla Greek yogurt, chocolate PB2, almond milk, one scoop almond butter, a little raw unsweetened coco powder, stevia) aaaaand a…

I'm a vegetarian, and for the past couple of weeks I've been really boosting my protein. Here are some things I've learned... Pea protein powder is expensive, soy is chalky, and hemp is good but filling due to the fiber. You can add tempeh to basically any meal and up its protein by like 20 grams. You can do the same with…

If you're having shin pain, shin splints or not, heel raises can help. Here's a how-to. Doing 4x25 every day really helped my shin pain. Drinking lots more water, and eating a small snack before your run, should help with dizziness. For everything else: it seems like you know what you need to do, you've just got to do it!

A very common side effect of birth control is fluid retention. It can add around five pounds to normal weight fluctuations. After time, the fluid retention is supposed to subside. It IS possible to lose weight on birth control pills, of course, but birth control pills can also stall progress for the first month or so you…

YES those dang pills made my weight fluctuate like crazy!! I now have the Nexplanon implant in my arm and I love it. I think it's estrogen free? Anyway, my weight is now steady once more.
