  • Glad you're back. You sound super motivated. Good luck & keep checking in. I think you're our first prison RN here. We have quite an interesting variety of health careers here. Cheers! :)
  • Welcome Matt! So glad you're here. I like your plan. Readiness, a plan of action and just putting one foot in front of the other will get you there. I also worked in the mental health field (and a locked unit) for 6 years as part of my nursing career. It's intense. Keep coming back. ~Pam :)
  • Thank you Julie. This one's for you! ~P.
  • I just resumed weekly measurements yesterday as part of the fitness program I'm in. I'm up 1.5 inches since I hit my goal in Nov. but my weight is still the same for past 3 months. Back to steady workouts. It's good to know the facts to stay on course.
  • I just restarted the one-year fitness program I took last year (Precision Nutrition) so I'm back in the groove with my workouts -- 4 this past week, plus intervals today and I'm on an 8-day streak with doing my little yoga routine. This program keeps me SO motivated.
  • Doesn't this sound good? "Cut a small avocado in half and remove the seed, scoop cottage cheese on each half, top with toasted sunflower seeds (or almonds, walnuts, peanuts, whatever), and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Crank some salt and pepper over the whole thing. Eat in your mouth. This obviously takes one-and-a-half…
  • Nurse coworker: How much sodium is in that salad? Me: Oh my it says 930 mg!! Fortunately I'm not sensitive to sodium. Nurse coworker: I would NEVER buy that. Is that ALL your eating? Me: Yes, it's very filling. I know I need to develop a thicker skin but I'm still sensitive when people question what I eat at work. I'm sure…
  • Woohoo!! That's wonderful news Nicole! Great non-scale victory.
  • WOW, what an inspiring message Julie! Thank you for sharing and joining our group. :) ~Pam
  • Welcome! And congrats on your progress. I love weights too and also work out at home with very basic equipment. No hassle going to the gym so it's great. ~Pam
  • Bumping this up from page 15 to see if any HC folks want to join this group. Up to 62 members now.
  • This message is so right on...
  • LAVRN --You are super woman & super organized!! Very inspiring and great way to stick with a routine. Cheers! ~Pam
  • How do you like Orange Theory Nichole? I don't know anything about it but like the name. Sounds like you had a really great day! ~Pam
  • Today I did yoga as a warm-up and then a weight-based workout. I'm trying to get my workout done in the morning when I feel a little fresher. It's a better start to the day.
  • I find it helps to have smaller goals vs focusing on the BIG goal which can be overwhelming. One lb a week was always my mini goal with 5 lb increments my longer term goal. They add up.
  • I also aimed for 1 lb a week. I also took weekly measurements & monthly pictures so the scale did not rule my world. Change comes in fits & starts. But first it starts on the inside I believe.

  • If you can't eat just one serving don't buy it. That's my best advice. There are things that I simply cannot buy in bulk anymore or they will get "sacrificed" as my husband likes to say. You have a choice. The peanut butter has no power over YOU.
  • I don't call it cheat days. But I eat about 3 heavier meals a week and eat lighter the other 4 days. This is how I lost weight and how I'm maintaining. Today is a light day and I'm a bit hungry but I know tomorrow I'll get to eat a little more. I got fat eating heavy EVERY day so eating lighter the majority of time is how…
  • My primary motivation was getting right with my relationship with food. I was miserable that food controlled me and knew I would always yo yo if I couldn't fix that. I spent the last year working on that so when the weight started going away it would stay away. I cannot over-emphasize how important that was for me. I…
  • Agree about delayed gratification and "planning" some indulgences 2-3 times a week. That works for me.
  • My best tips came from eating only 3 times a day, portion control and not snacking. I also cut way back on alcohol. And I went from zero activity to about 4 workouts a week. I got used to going to sleep hungry sometimes. That brought me to goal in about 10 months. In maintenance I still essentially follow these "rules" tho…
  • This statement inspired me a lot in the past year and still does.
  • Post away Helena. I've seen lots of underwear progress shots. They are common and not so different from a bathing suit shot. Congrats on your progress. It all adds up!
  • A message from my pet tortoise Travis today...
  • I totally understand this. I was fine weighing frequently during weight loss and then got very anxious when I started maintenance. I settled into weighing only about once a week to keep me sane. So far I have maintained for 10 weeks now.
