I find it really helpful for minimising my pcos symptoms, but I do struggle to keep up with it. In reality I do a few months on and a few months off.

I can't believe that what was a bit of background information to my request has escalated into numerous people insinuating that I am somehow deluded and or misinformed. Yes, I know glucose drips exist. I didn't have one. Yes, I was in ketosis. I was tested every morning. Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. I'm a nurse.…

I'm getting quite annoyed here at the number of people disbelieving my post. Yes, I did go for four months with no nutrition. I was on a saline drip - no glucose, no nutrients. Unless you count copious amounts of cyclizine and stemetil, nothing else went into my body.
-
No, a drip is just for hydration. Saline, nothing else.

Humans are an amazingly adaptable species....although we need a balanced diet to thrive, we can survive on almost any diet, at least long enough to pass on our genes. If you consider eskimoes eating mainly whale/seal/fish , the isolated Amazonian tribes still hunting and gathering, fruitarians, fussy kids who live on…

Never tried the implant but hormonal Medes have had the same effect for me. I have the Mirena coil but the doctor also put me on the pill to calm down the excessive bleeding I was still having....in 6 weeks I put on 10lb! A lot of it was overeating, but the pill increased my appetite enormously, so was indirectly…

I forgot to add, he also explains the effect that insulin levels have on appetite, explaining why for a lot of people it is the sticking to a diet that is the hard bit. Let's face it, we all understand CICO at a basic level, but here we are trying to lose weight because we take in calories for so many more reasons than…
-
In the book, he explains that CICO does work, but the CO part is far more complex than current models allow for. He explains how CO is influenced by insulin levels. I can't explain several chapters worth of science in a couple of sentences, but (for type 2 diabetics at least), it explains how CO varies due to insulin…

Nausea is a common side effect of Metformin. It would be worth going back to your GP to see if they can change you onto the modified release version instead, which should help.

I tried to eat three meals a day but I found that having three meals that were too small to be satisfying just meant that I was thinking about food all day and wanting to snack. I'm now just eating one large satisfying meal every 24 hours. It's early days, but it seems to be working for me. I'm eating the same number of…

You might find it helpful to read one of Jason Fung's books. He's a nephrologist who became interested in using fasting to correct insulin resistance, obesity and type 2 diabetes in his patients. He goes into the physiological processes in far more detail than I can explain easily here and has had good results in terms of…

I'm gluten free and vegetarian. I do eat a lot of vegan food, mainly curries, stir frys etc. Typical breakfasts are nutribix with almond milk, gf oats with hazelnut milk and berries or overnight oats made with alpro soy yogurt and fruit. Lunch I'm quite boring and take home made soup to work. I like mushroom made with…

I do ....I eat at a loss Mon to Fri and maintenance at the weekend. I'm on the last 15lb, so thought it would be a good way to ease towards maintenance.

Some of your foods are very calorie dense - granola and nuts are nutritious but you don't really get much volume. I tend to eat large volumes of low cal veg (typically 4-6 cups per meal), either roasted or stir fried or as veg soup. It's just as nutritious, especially if you add some lentils for protein, but a lot more…

Dried red lentils are low cal and soak up the water as they cook

Ah, got it. Thank you

I like to roast an entire cauliflower and then melt a single cheese slice onto the top Trays of roasted mixed veg with herbs sprinkled on Berries eaten frozen takes ages and is low calorie Huge bowls of veg soup with lentils or beans Stir fry veg with soy sauce Mmmmmmmm

I'm having some technical hiccups...the link didn't link to the group in the original message, so I tried hitting the reply button and it still didn't take me there (faulty port key perhaps). I then tried replying to the raven to ask for help and the reply won't send either! It looks as if I might be a squib

I've never done this before but just filled in the form to give it a go! Feeling ridiculously excited to meet fellow HP geeks

I saved time by initially using the recipe builder to work out how many calories in a bowl full of various veg (roughly 200 for the bowls I have). I now assume every veg bowl is 200cals. I know it will vary from day to day, but averaged over a few weeks, it's accurate enough for me.

How smart do you need them to be? My other half buys his trousers from Mountain Warehouse or Trespass, but they wouldn't be office smart.

I've got into hazelnut milk lately...it give porridge oats a lovely taste, especially if I soak them in it overnight and then microwave in the morning
-
I like lentil daal on baked potatoes

You need to lose the husband more urgently than you need to lose the weight.

I like to make veg and lentil/chickpea curries and eat it on top of an omelette instead of with rice. It sounds weird but it works!
-
I have a good little book called 'carbs and cals' that has photos of amounts of everyday food on plates, with the calorie count - I find it really useful for making guesstimates a bit more accurate.
-
I like it made with hazelnut milk, with dried fruit stirred in. Or a bit of cocoa powder to make it a bit Nutella-ish.
-
Have a big omelette before going to work - the eggs are good for protein and you can add whatever veg/cheese/herbs you fancy. Dried fruit and nuts are good for snacking on at work - if you can get outside for your break, it might make it easier to eat. When you get home tired, it would be great if you had things in the…

I find that where my calories comes from matters for retaining water. If I have a day or two eating high amounts of fat or salt, my weight goes up due to water retention and I can feel my clothes getting tight. I have to remind myself that it will come off again once I go back to eating normally. So I would still be losing…

This thread so reminded me of my recent holiday....being gluten free and vegetarian was going to be a challenge in Gambia, but it was only a week, so I thought if I just ate what I could, I would be OK and still lose weight. One week of nothing but bananas, crisps, ice cream and peanuts later, supplemented with the gluten…
