• I second using the recipe builder function for foods made from scratch. You need to be doubly careful here of the ingredient listings it pulls in though. I find that it is even less reliable than normal, and I have to replace it with more accurate options. Once you have it right though, it can be a great assistance.
• My favorites are my cast iron skiller and my good chef's knife.
• I'd had scarlet fever when I was about 4, and a couple of years later I woke up one morning and couldn't see. I was convinced I'd gone blind from the scarlet fever like Mary in Little House on the Prairie. Turns out I just had pink eye, and my eyelashes were simply crusted shut. It was years before I stopped randomly…
• You don't have to weigh in grams and measure all liquids in fluid ounces if you don't want to, but as a result, your diary calculations will be much less accurate than those of people who do. It is particularly important if you don't have much weight to lose, because your room for error is a much lower % of your overall…
• The American baking contest shows I watch also show participants weighing their dry goods. If they skip that step, many results aren't great and in the confessional part of the program the cooks acknowledge that it was their mistake.
• Catching up from the weekend - my favorite way to drink cider is to get the soft version and add Captain Morgan to it. Sometimes I mull it, sometimes I don't. Both are delicious.
•
Or bacon.
• Krispy Kreme are definitely overrated.
• @SezxyStef, the no-coconut thing is just a personal preference due to texture. I hate dried coconut, and on the rare times I order carrot cake somewhere new and it comes to the table with coconut, it's incredibly disappointing, like you opened your favorite toy on Christmas morning only to find it's broken. @TR0berts, I'm…
• "you know nothing." Guess we can all change our names to Jon Snow LOL Decades ago we used to have bagel Fridays. That stopped when the 3rd generation took over the family business about 15 years ago. Now we only get cake when people retire or celebrate a decade birthday. We also used to have quarterly company luncheons,…
• I log everything, not only for more accurate calorie totals, but for nutritional info as well. I pay attention to fiber as well as carbs and sugars (need to for medical reasons) and fruits and veggies have all 3.
• Congrats on your success so far, and all of the healthy choices you are making. You will get to 145; it will take some time, but slow and steady will help you get there and STAY there, versus a speedy weight loss now but gaining it all back again. I would give yourself some wiggle room on the calories; 1200 is our minimum…
• I've been doing it with one system or another for the majority of the past 9 years, so to me it's no different than brushing my teeth - it's just something that I do, because I know I have to. Otherwise, everything I am putting in my mouth is just guesswork, and I would have nothing to analyze later if I don't get the…
• I don't for daily things like washing dishes, but when I do a deeper cleaning, that has me up and moving for an hour or more that I'd normally be sitting down watching tv or reading, I'll count it. I live by myself, so I don't have to do that sort of cleaning more than once a month. It's not part of my daily calorie…
• "Fondant is crazy hard and not good. The cream filling in an Oreo is not fondant.". I'm sure it's not really fondant, but it's the closest thing I've ever found to the center of an Oreo when trying to describe it to someone that's never had it. At least it was the closes when I've been working with the fondant, not when…
• Imagine two of the the thinnest, driest cookies ever, more like a cracker with just a slight cocoa taste, sandwiched around a thin slice of fondant icing. And then when you eat it, you have visible chocolate crumbs in every crevice of your teeth until you floss for an hour. No thank you. I swear as a kid half the time I'd…
•
@AnnPT77, I don't like Oreos or Halo Tip either. Even as a child, the only Oreos I remotely liked were the double-stuff.
• We have Tillamook smoked sausages here in Ohio. Not sure I've seen anything else, or if it's even the same company.
• @lemurcat12 - my coworkers don't make negative comments usually, but they do feel the need to comment. I keep a food scale, cutting board, and chef's knife here so I can prep a healthy lunch in our shared kitchen. Since they are watching me prep, they often feel obliged to chime in, usually about how good it looks or about…
•
ACA - Affordable Care Act/Obamacare is taxpayer funded if…
• Regarding leftovers, I tend to keep a small cooler in my car in the summer and throw some reusable ice packs in before we head out. If I forget the ice packs, I will ask for a to-go container with ice in it. Sometimes the server might look at you funny, but when you explain why you need it, they get it. The practice has…
• Nothing to do with health, and everything to do with people's hang-ups about what size they are: I believe no one can read the tags while you are wearing the clothes, so who cares what size# they are? Get something that fits properly and is flattering and you will look ten times better than buying a smaller size just…
•
I am at a point in my life where I'm trying to discover who I am but not sure if I'm happy with what I'm finding out. Sadly, I'm 45, not 15. I'm supposed to have all of this figured out by now :( but instead I seem to be regressing. This really resonated with me.
This might be part of the issue - we all do…
•
If the medical issues you're talking about are being on crutches, that didn't cause weight gain. Eating more calories than your activity level while on crutches caused the gain. Congrats on your loss.
Thank you @Packerjohn - not just the leg injuries, I've also dealt with insulin resistance and…
• I don't know how unpopular it is, but it seems to be uncommon. Yes, life happens, and occasionally you will have setbacks, but how you react to those setbacks goes a long way towards long-term success. I've been working towards a healthy weight since 2008. I've had injuries and medical conditions that temporarily reversed…
• Your body cleanses itself all day, every day, so a month-long "cleanse" isn't necessary. What about going vegan for a few weeks first? Yes you can get some protein from raw fruits and veggies, but my vegetarian friends say it's extremely difficult to get complete proteins. Most of them achieve that through combining…
• I too have a hypothyroidism, with an insulin-resistance chaser. I've been losing weight steadily. Am I on medication? Yes. Can I lose weight on just the medication? No, I still have to be in a calorie deficit. Do these conditions make my body more efficient, in that I can go about my day on fewer calories than average for…
• a) Because you are an emotional eater, is there an activity you like that can reduce your stress? Anything that puts a smile on your face and/or keeps your hands busy, such as knitting, coloring, painting? Heck, turn on your fave tunes & have a private dance party. Take a walk in nature, if you can. If you have a dog, play…

• I do it incidentally. I take morning meds that require me to wait at least an hour before breakfast, so on work days I am eating at the office. I often get busy and cannot eat until 10am. Dinner is usually around 7 or 7:30. On weekends, I will also get distracted (or oversleep), and end up eating only 2 meals, brunch…
