If your water bottle won't fit in the holder that's on the machine, you'd have to set it on the floor, which is a safety issue. It's also why you can't bring your gym bag out onto the workout floor.

I'm 47 and I started at 241. I do 15-20 mins of cardio 4-5 times per week at the gym. I do the cardio first to warm up, I switch out elliptical/bike/elliptical/arc trainer. Then I lift. I do arms/back on one day, legs the next, then abs the next. I do low reps with heavy weight to burn fat. The way I see it is, it doesn't…

I had a Mirena for 5 years, had it taken out when it 'expired' and did not get another one placed. BUT, my youngest child was 11 when I got it, and I was 40 so no "post childbirth" perspective. I had also heard stories that the Mirena doesn't make you GAIN weight, but could slow down or otherwise inhibit weight loss. That…

A coworker tells you she notices you walk differently. More smoothly and quietly.

I'm so glad I found your post. We are the same age with the same starting weight, and you are where I want to be by the end of the summer (I started my journey on December 27 2015!) Thank you for the motivation.

Absolutely amazing. You're an inspiration!

My workout music has to be motivational. I work out to the new Panic! At the Disco album (I skip Death of a Bachelor and Impossible Year), Saint Motel, The 1975, Wolfmother. They all have a throwback sound so they make me feel YOUNG again!!

Congratulations on your great progress. You've obviously worked very hard toward your goal (which is the same as mine.) Your success is very encouraging to me!!

My understanding is that higher weight, lower reps is better for burning fat. This question may also be appropriate for the fitness category; there tends to be a good bit of info about weight training there.

My starting weight was 242. My daughters live with me and notice every little thing, but they go to the gym with me and see me in fitted workout pants, etc. The coworkers who have commented at all noticed at around 25 lbs, and now at 32 pounds, a few people I haven't seen in months gave the, "Wow! You look great!"…

I take Sunday and Monday off the from the gym, but there is no "on" or "off" from logging foods. Even if I go over my calories for the day, I still log all foods. And at 30 pounds lost, it is starting to slow down a bit, but I'm still losing.

I love my gym because it is open 24/7 (staffed, not just 24 hour access with a passkey), and has plenty of equipment (except the fly machine. It's just too big to house more than one.) I also see all ages and fitness levels and members all seem comfortable. You can also hire trainers or take the free classes that give you…

My daughter (22) and I had this discussion at the gym this morning ... not so much for her generation (at least I thought) but when I was growing up we were always told "girls/women shouldn't lift, lifting will make women all bulky and muscle-bound." She finds that hilarious - just shakes her head and does her squats!

Diabetes is rampant in my family and, while I know it will probably get me eventually, I'd like to miss that boat for as long as possible. I don't want to be trapped in an unhealthy body for the rest of my life.

My NSV today was when I sent my Mom a pic of me at new years and a pic of me last week, and she almost didn't recognize me in the newer pic! And she said I looked YOUNGER!!

YES! Definitely buy padded shorts and not a padded seat. They're ... weird, I can't explain it, but the gel ones in particular fell much more comfortable to the hand (while you're squishing them in the store) than they do to the butt during an actual ride.
-
Last night I tried a pair of shorts I couldn't wear at all last summer. I got them on and didn't have to hop up and down, or twist, or anything. I wasn't even winded when I got them on! It's been a long time since really cute clothes just buttoned and zipped without sweat and tears.

Be patient - I've lost 24 lbs and I'm juuuuust starting to get the occasional comment from people who haven't seen me in a month. And you also should accept that some people in your life aren't ever going to encourage you. Good thing you're doing this for YOU, and not them, right? If you need encouragement, we're here.

So, I guess the Mayo Clinic's findings that women (and men) with smaller frame sizes are at greater risk for osteoporosis is a fake ... because how could a highly regarded medical research institute do a study on the effects of frame size differences if they don't exist? And the Fels Longitudinal Study, used to investigate…

The change in the appearance of your eyes is remarkable! I'm hoping to see the same type of results - thanks for sharing, this is quite encouraging. You should be proud of your progress.

The Points Plus system was pretty manageable, I did it for a while and I have a coworker who lost 40+lbs on it. But this new system they changed to for 2016? It's still pretty new but I haven't found anyone yet who really likes it. What's weird is my friend has been Lifetime for a year, and the same food she was eating on…

Exactly. Tough love is the antithesis of what actual love is. It's really a way for the person in control to punish the person in crisis. Yeah, you can miss me with that.

Gluten-free is for people with celiac disease or other gluten sensitivity. I've heard some people without these conditions claim that they feel "so much better" after cutting gluten from their diets, but I firmly believe that's a psychosomatic response. There's no evidence that gluten is problematic for anyone who doesn't…

THIS is me. I finally decided that I simply cannot turn 50 in this body. Better late than never. I hope to come back to this thread soon with discoveries of my own.

I think the example of an apple (and that's what it is, just an example) may be causing confusion (and some righteous indignation.) The point is, if you say to yourself, "I'm hungry" and you cycle through several healthy choices of foods you LIKE, because NONE of them are what you want, then you're probably not actually…

I've added 5 minutes each to my elliptical time and my treadmill time at the gym. WAY TO GO!!

I may have seen the same article. I agree; this falls into what I call "below the neck" (real) vs "above the neck" (bored or habit) hunger. If you're being that picky, it's not "below the neck" hunger.
