  • Hi searcher7105 and bcjones4733! I'd love to get this group going myself. I'm 74 and have lost a lot of weight - IF was what helped the most - but still need to lose ~20 lbs and have been stalled for the last year or so. I hope the group can be revived because I need it! :)
  • Hi tinasauseda! I see your post was quite a while ago. Are you still around? Did you achieve your goal? Fifteen pounds sounds like so little but it's often the last pounds that are the hardest. I hope you made it!
  • I'm 73 and over the last 20 years or so, have lost 80 pounds. It was IF that helped the most, but I still have a way to go to my goal. It sounds like you're facing an uphill battle. Have you ever considered IF? It seemed to help me the most to lose weight. But you should probably check with your doctor first. If he OKs it,…
  • Hi, @santoinetteberger! It sounds like you're well on your way! How have you been doing since you posted? I'm 73 and over the last 20 years or so, have lost 80 pounds. It was IF that helped the most, but I still have a way to go to my goal.
  • Overall, I've lost almost 80 pounds from my highest weight, through a variety of means. I became more active starting in 2014, I did intermittent fasting, off and on in 2014 to 2020, to lose about 35 pounds (using the strategy in the book by Dr. James B. Johnson, The Alternate Day Diet , and most recently I've been doing a…
  • Good for you! Alternate day fasting, along with increased activity, is the only thing that ever worked for me. I hope you're sticking with it. Tip: what really helped for me was creating a spreadsheet and logging everything I consumed on fast days. I also rewarded myself at the end of a fast day with one square of Lily's…
  • Thanks for the warm welcome, @jknight001 ! Thanks also for the tip about not closing out the diary. I may try that myself. Hi @orlken! FYI: I've been using erythritol (Wholesome Organic Zero brand, which is pretty pricey, but well worth it, imo) for a while now and love it. It does have an odd quality though: it…
  • Hello everyone! I'm not really new to the group, but it's been so very long since I've been around that I doubt anyone remembers me, and you all seem to be new to me too. I lost 30+ pounds on IF several years ago, gained 15 back but in the last year have taken 10 of the regained weight off again, so I'm holding at roughly…
  • These are all great ideas which I've copied for when I soon go back on a 5:2 (maybe a 3:4 to start up again). Thanks, sanjo, flossy, mmovesian and mamainthekitchen! One of my own favorite treats is a meal of only a small steamed artichoke. Small ones are available in a 4-artichoke package from Trader Joe's or I make a…
  • One thing that somebody suggested to me a while ago that really helps when I have that really hungry feeling is to drink a cup of broth. I use a low-salt beef broth, but I imagine that if you'd prefer it, veggie broth would work well too. And it's only 10 calories!
  • This is excellent advice, and that's pretty much what I'm trying. But I am allowing myself stevia-sweetened chocolate, in moderation. Stevia apparently doesn't spike the blood sugar and then drop it sharply soon after eating it, which I've read is what sugar does, as well as most artificial sweeteners. Supposedly that's…
  • I really don't know about the Warrior diet and I'm not a weight lifter, but I was able to lose about 25 pounds using many very small meals throughout the day and limiting my daily caloric intake to 20 to 25% of my daily maintenance calories (there's a formula in The Alternate Day Diet to use to calculate how many calories…
  • I have the same problem and so I'm trying to cut way back on sugary things and bread. But there are some tasty alternatives: Trader Joes carries sugar free dark chocolate (55%, I think). There's an amazing recipe at Cooking Light for Crema Catalana:http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/crema-catalana It's sort of a Spanish…
  • Thanks, mamainthekitchen! 5:2 would be so much easier, but I find that I don't lose on 5:2. Oddly, I think I've gotten used to not eating, so when it's a non-diet day, I often don't eat much until late in the day, and then sometimes the nighttime cravings kick in. It's a hard habit to break. When I eat throughout the day,…
  • Hello! I joined mfp a couple of days ago and am still finding my way around and figuring out how things work. I am thrilled to find an intermittant fast group! I saw Michael Mosley's BBC program a couple of years ago, tried it, and it was the first diet that had worked for me after years and years of trying! I'm stalled…
  • I just joined, and am looking for others who are doing intermittant fasting. I first started around two years ago, and that first year I lost 25 pounds. That was during the spring/summer, but I sort of hit a wall once the days got shorter, and over time, gained back 10 of those pounds. Now, I want to try again, and I'm…
  • Hi kommodevaran! You seem to have some very definite ideas, but my experience is different. In fact, I lost 25 pounds and while I've gained back some, I'm still way ahead of where I was initially. And this was after trying many other diets, including the daily calorie restriction that you're recommending. Either I was not…
  • Whoops, that was exercise "bike"!
  • An exercise back is easy on the knees. In the past, I found it way too boring to do it regularly, but now I read ebooks while pedaling and it's great.
  • I've not yet tried the method but I saw a PBS program with Miranda Esmond-White sbout her "Classical Stretch" that might be what you need until you heal. It looked very gentle, but I'm not certain it will keep you off the parts of your feet that you need to rest enough. Here's a link: http://www.pbs.org/video/2365382070/…
  • Hi enterdanger! Yeah, I found 4:3 pretty difficult at first. Then I adjusted and did great for a while. But now I've been struggling again. My mom passed away about as year and a half ago, and during that period I developed a killer sweet tooth that I just have not been able to overcome...yet! I looked in groups but was…
  • Hey, Sammie, it seems to me you're still way ahead of the game at this point. 150 pounds is an impressive accomplishment! I, too, am struggling to get back on the diet (I'm actually doing a 3:4, since it conforms to my schedule a little better). I lost 25 pounds a couple of years ago, but have gained some of it back.…
