Give it a go. Towards the end you'll be looking around and thinking you're surrounded by mad people and how on earth can they do this with heavy (ish) weights. Stick at and before you know it you'll be hooked.

Outside for me. I don't like running and going nowhere and I sweat prolifically which is more unpleasant inside than out.

I run to strengthen my heart and because I enjoy it, less so in winter and more so when I race. I do weight bearing exercise to strengthen my bones and muscles and because I enjoy it. I eat to fuel my life and it is something I also enjoy. If 1 and 2 allow me to do more of 3 then I can only see wins all round.

Here in blighty we walk on the left, sword arm nearest to middle in case a duel breaks out.

People with specific medical needs require special education to control those needs. The other 95%+ of the population need general education and information to prevent further spreading of the obesity and type 2 diabetes crises.

Are there any activities you can do with your family? An hour's walk at a local park or beauty spot, it will be better than the treadmill in many ways.

Think of it as an exchange programme. Many "gym" types make their only visits to bars in December and the "bar" types make their only visits to gyms during January.

Us men have the benefit of being able to see the effects of weight loss sooner, some times more than others.

In the context of the MFP app and this associated forum calorie counting is a tool. When used well the aim (in my mind) is to make explicit the link between food intake and overall health and weight. At the end of the process you should know what works for you. If you have used calorie counting in a negative way in the…

Resting your legs before a beep test sounds sensible. Many workouts will be missed by many people over the Christmas period, the odd one here or there is no biggie.

This negativity has pushed the poor woman to (pretend to) drink, she is now starring in a gin advert. Shame on you, internet.

Could you run with your dog? Either on your own or with your partner. I know nothing of dogs and their sizes so I don't know if this is feasible.

Indeed they can, and they can continue to drink a gallon of water every day and they can continue to wonder why they are not losing weight.

First and foremost this is a forum linked to a calorie counting website and app. If you want to find alternatives to calorie counting may I respectfully suggest you look elsewhere.

Great, no one will suggest I should eat less meat then.

We could push policies to reduce population, all the (real) meat and sustainable too.

Changing from factory to office based work did wonders for my earwax. I must admit I didn't control for carbs so maybe not relevant to the current discussion.

I use Garmin. It gives me 100-130 calories per mile depending on speed, hills, wind speed etc. If I eat back all my calories I lose at the expected rate so it seems pretty accurate.

Twice the average walking pace, a decent running pace.

1kg of vodka per day for 2300 calories, that would be insane.

Sweeping generalisation. Doctors use medicines Surgeons cut you up Dietitians use food We need all of them but if all three approaches are trying to get to the same result I would like to talk to the dietitian first.

I am pretty happy with my body, I could lose a bit more and may tighten up my logging at some point in the future. I run, half marathon next week and another in December so around 27 miles per week. I do body pump twice a week and body balance once. I also bike to work most days. Running and accurate logging are what works…

What works for me Energy per serving divided by serving size in grams gives energy per gram. Number of grams multiplied by energy per gram gives the amount of energy eaten. 465 kJ ÷ 47 g = 9.9 kJ/g 9.9 kJ/g × 10 g = 99 kJ
