When I've used those machines I lean it back a little bit maybe 30 degrees from vertical. Feet are kind of high and little more than shoulder width. I pulled the seat as close as I can so that my knees are as far back as reasonable in the starting position. But yeah overall those machines suck. Better than nothing and the…

Use the machines. Plenty of people do and they get results. You're way over thinking this. Just go and have fun. :)

So you understand you could simply ask for a spot, but you're going to hog up the squat rack for something other than squats anyway. I don't have much sympathy. That's just how I feel.

If your goal is to lose a few pounds, and then gain them back once you get sick of dealing with the overpriced powder, then shakeology is perfect. If it sounds like a good short cut, then it's bogus and won't work over time.
-
Just commit to logging your food for a month and see if you lose a couple pounds that way.

Between the Stronglifts program and learning form from Mark Rippetoe and Alan Thrall, you'll already know more about strength training than many of those "spooky" football players. Any of them (with a soul) will respect the heck out of you for doing the big lifts, even if it's with 10 lbs to start with: Squat - Deadlift -…

If you weigh 199 and aren't losing weight then you are almost certainly eating more than 1200 calories whether you know it or not
-
If it works it's only because it's a "trick" to get you to eat less calories. No carbs at dinner means (presumably) a smaller dinner, and hopefully less calories throughout the day. But you might just end up eating more before 5 or getting too hungry late and night and raiding the fridge. I tried the no food after 6 pm…

Eat more.

I'll also recommend Stronglifts.com. There is even an app, and it's all free. I'd also recommend YouTube videos to study proper form. Look for videos from Mark Rippetoe or Alan Thrall. You can practice the movements in privacy without weights if you want just to get the general feel first. Obviously start out very light…

Eat less. Your current TDEE is not the same as it was when you were 235.

You rock, T! Great work.

If it's difficult, then you know you're doing it right. The only shortcut is consistent effort over time. You're on the right path. Your only job now is to stick to it.

i LOVE this article and everyone on mfp should read it (with an open mind)![/quote] Awesome article thanks for sharing. I'd also like to mention that TDEE and BMR numbers are simply estimates and give us a starting point. Your actual results from what you actually ate is a much better indicator of how many calories you do…

Stronglifts.com there's even an app. Wish I had found this years ago. All free.

"A goal without action is delusion." There are several variations of that saying but it's rooted in a Japanese proverb.

Hard to say since you've covered your belly hips and thighs with a loose fitting skirt. Regardless, if you've always wanted to lose weight then go ahead. You don't look like someone who NEEDS to lose weight for health reasons, but you're not scrawny either so you have some room to play with based on YOUR preference.

Do you work out at home or in a gym?
-
You'll probably lose weight after surgery even without exercise. Do EXACTLY what the doctor says. Be grateful you live in an age and a country where excellent surgery is available.

I wasn't aware we were only allowed to use dumb bells for curls? When did this become a rule?

Planet Fitness. They actually make fun of people who are fit. They call them "Lunks" and literally have a "Lunk alarm" in the gym to shame people who work out "too hard" or who look "too fit" for their liking. "Judgement-free" my foot. THAT SAID, if it's the most reasoanble option to get you exercising regularly I say go…

Optimum Nutrition, Gold Standard. Don't waste your money on anything else.

Maybe they are wondering why you are staring at them. You must be otherwise you wouldn't know where they are looking. I am curious how you know what they're thinking?

Andy Morgan is awesome!

Make a meal plan based on Foods you know you will actually eat. Sticking to your calorie goal is the most important thing. Don't get super hung up on Macros unless you want to. When you lift weights always write down what you lifted. That way you can make sure to progressively increase the weight. As with the meal plan…

As long as you and your husband and your children are healthy and happy, I'm happy too. Have a great rest of your day :)

Just not "too fit". As in so fit you'd need a power rack. Or a barbell. Or to work out so intensely that you involuntarily make grunt or appear to strain in any way. Or looked too fit. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/20/too-fit-for-planet-fitness_n_5002658.html…

Which is exactly the mindset I mentioned in the first place. PF doesn't have to worry about people with that mindset ever getting "too fit" so they'd have to revoke membership. I'm glad you've finally come around to agreement with my original point.
