  • I swim 3x a week, run 2x a week, do cycling spin class 2x a week, and body weight strength training (squats, lunges, pushups, plank, situps, and so on whenever I can squeeze it in). I wish I had time for doing more focused strength training/ weight lifting, but there are only so many hours in the day.
  • I've been snugging the belt I wear daily down, and down again since January. Yesterday I went to use it, only to find I'd run out of holes. I either need a leather punch or a new belt! (Also in dire need of new pants - LOL).
  • Fat, carbs, and sugar aren't the boogy-men that so many people want you to believe they are. Unless you have a medical need to stay below a certain threshold of fats, you can usually treat the macros as guidelines, and adjust as needed to reflect your actual diet. If you're otherwise eating well, why force yourself into…
  • My work offers something similar. My approach has been to take a moderate serving of whatever veg dish looks healthiest (not a lot of oil/ not fried/ etc.) the kitchen is especially fond of roasted root veggies, and a small serving of a protein (usually some kind of grilled or baked chicken or turkey dish). When I've…
  • I have the default macros set, but I mostly ignore them I usually end up at or just over my protein goal, over on fat, and under on carbs. Calorie wise, I try to land within 100 calories of my daily goal, and that seems to be working. My fat often comes in high because I have an unquenchable love affair with avocados,…
  • Some days I wake up ravenous, stomach growling hungry. I have breakfast, something nutritionally balanced that'll keep me full for a nice long while. Some days the idea of eating breakfast turns my stomach (it's how my anxiety tends to manifest). So I don't. I make myself a nice big mug of tea, and wait until I'm hungry…
  • I second the suggestion of speaking to a physical therapist to avoid re-injury or aggravating something needlessly. Perhaps a couple of sessions to help you build a fitness routine that won't stress your knees.
  • Years ago I used WW to lose my first 25lbs. eventually though it stopped working for me because I became too active, and their calculations weren't gauged toward someone who did strength training 3x a week, ran 4x a week, and did martial arts 2x a week. From there I joined on older site, called CalorieKing which used the…
  • It's less that I want to be skinny and more that I want to be fit, and able to do all the things I say I want to, but often don't because my weight and fitness level holds me back. No power in the 'verse is going to change the fact that I have the shape of a 1940's pin-up, regardless of my weight.
  • Thank you. It was an especially difficult time, and I have a lot of anxiety that it'll happen again as I drop weight and become more fit.
  • Good to know. I had some roasted sweet potato with my lunch today and WHOA it seemed so sweet.
  • Oooh, that sounds super tasty with apples. I do love me some almond butter on apples.
  • Read ingredient lists before you buy stuff, that's always really helped me. If you do, you can make more informed choices when you select which ones to buy. Personally I don't worry a ton about sodium, but I work out a lot, drink 2-4 liters of water and unsweetened herbal tea a day. I also don't have any issues with blood…
  • Feel free to add me too - lost 60lbs 12 years ago, most of which crept back due to poor work life balance and injury. Looking to lose 45 now to get back to my goal. (5'6", 184 currently)
  • I swim 3x a week between 40-60 minutes. I just sent you a friend request. I also joined the community mentioned above, but as they said, it's kinda quiet most of the time.
  • Are you there with a friend? Sometimes the popcorn craving is just too much, but sharing a small popcorn isn't the worlds worst thing if you've got some calories to allot for it.
  • Having experienced something similar some years back when I was getting close to my goal weight I can empathize with how frustrating and honestly painful those comments can be. Since then, I have come to realize when people react to someone making an effort to better themselves in such a way it can have a lot to do with…
  • An old trick I learned when I swam competitively was to put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the blocked ear. Wait 30-60 seconds and then tilt your head over. Your ear should drain. If it doesn't you may want to see a Dr. and consider swimming with earplugs to prevent it.
  • I recently got a waterproofed iPod shuffle with waterproof headphones and have been really loving it. I got mine from Underwater Audio on Amazon. One thing I've found that helps with getting the ear pieces to stay in place is using a little bit of vaseline or aquafor to seat the earbuds. It isn't fool proof, but it helps.…
  • Rest days are important. They give your muscles a chance to recover and rebuild, since you build muscle by literally making tiny tears that have to knit back together. I usually go for a long walk on my rest days, just to keep my body moving (I find it helps with sore legs), do a lot of gentle stretching, and if I'm…
  • For simplicity check out The Stone Soup. https://thestonesoup.com/blog/ All of the recipes are built around the idea of not having more than five ingredients. Some of the recipes are higher calorie than others, but some easy substitutions should help. The writer even includes some basic substitutions for things like paleo,…
  • Thanks all! -raids the fridge for an avocado-
  • Is it not importing your step count and exercise? Just in case, step count is super subtle and shows up under your calories remaining on the home screen, but nowhere else. I didn't see it there for ages. Otherwise, try unsynching, resynching, and restarting everything? Sometimes the export function between my Apple Watch/…
