  • This is a weird one, but I just realized my stomach no longer hangs over itself, it just goes smoothly down, though still quite round. I’ve also almost completely lost some side rolls. I guess that’s the beauty of losing slowly, my skin stays tight. Also, my Fitbit is suddenly much looser on my wrist.
  • I do like when people comment on my weight loss and tell me I look better, because I know it’s true. I didn’t look as good when I was fatter, and I’ll look better than I do now when I lose more weight. Looking better or worse doesn’t change my inherent worth, just my attractiveness to look at. There are other kinds of…
  • That sounds like a dangerous position to take because you disagree with someone.
  • @lemurcat2 Did you get a good crop last year? I’ve never been very good with vegetables, except for two years when the neighboring trees hadn’t yet grown and shaded our plot. Even in our new house, I have trouble with getting enough sun. What berries do you have? I would love to have a berry bush sometime.
  • I’m losing weight steadily, but slowly, twenty five lbs since August 19th. I’ve lost more quickly before then put it all back on plus a few more. So I know it’s better to be slow and steady. Still, I would like to get out of the 190s. Yesterday, I was 191.8, and I haven’t been drinking nearly enough water, so I do have…
  • @AnnPT77 No, I haven’t read those, thank for the recommendations! I’m always a little impressed by people who go straight for the facts, because I do like a little chat myself, thrown into the mix. I do mostly read books written before the 1920’s, as I find later books often to be so depressing and I already struggle with…
  • Oh, “The Explorer’s Garden” was one of the ones we read! It was fun. My goodness, it was amazing how quickly and passionately he dived into really hardcore gardening and plant expeditions. Have you read Margery Fish’s “We Made a Garden”? Her extremely unpleasant marriage dynamics aside, I find her intense observation of…
  • It’s funny to me, having been homeschooled, to hear so many people downplaying limited socialization. We got SO many comments and lectures on how we were being and would be permanently socially damaged, unable to find good jobs or have healthy relationships, none of which actually became true. It’s a silver lining, at…
  • Thank you both, it’s very helpful. I’ve been meaning to try this method for a year. I stumbled upon this method of starting seeds last year right after it was time to start them. I’ve gardened for years but focused on native perennials. They are great, but I’ve been lately starting to grow cottage garden flowers that need…
  • Yes, I’m using them as mini greenhouses. @AnnPT77, do you have any advice or tips on using them? I’m in zone 6a and am only doing perennials and hardy annuals at the moment. The blog I was reading said to start those in Jan/Feb in zone 5b, so doing the same in zone 6a should be fine hopefully.
  • I just saw myself in a mirror that I haven’t seen for months, and I look noticeably smaller. I’m not saying thinner, because I’m nowhere near being thin, but at least I’m smaller.
  • Has anyone tried the winter sowing method with milk jugs? I just put some out yesterday, sweet peas, larkspur and mignonette. I know larkspur and mignonette prefer being direct seeded, but I moved my cutting flower garden raised bed and am still in the process of digging it in and refilling it. I’m not sure I’ll have it…
  • Because you’re only 18, it’s very likely that your skin will snap back to some extent at least, a little while after the weight loss. It’s common after weight loss to have skin be a bit saggy, but depending on how young and moisturized your skin is, it usually does tighten up. Your skin is definitely in the best category…
  • I can see my jawline coming back into focus, I just noticed.
  • No, you are mistaken. I’m not in a circle where mask wearing is discouraged. I do have family members with OCD and anxiety which have shot through the roof during this while gaining weight. I see them panicking over Covid to the point of neurosis, and not even thinking of actions which could mitigate Covid, if they do get…
  • I’m not accusing anyone in particular; I just saw some misunderstanding of what I was trying to say. I do think it would be helpful to say “Lose weight, wear masks to lower the spread and severity of Covid.” I do see people becoming extremely focused on wearing masks, gloves and social distancing and putting all their…
  • Well, I for one, never said that the obese are doing anything TO others, or that the obese have caused the lockdowns. Anyone thinking that I did, should reread what I wrote. If you go back and read what I said, you will see that I clearly stated that I myself am obese. What I find ridiculous and abhorrent is the stance…
  • [quote="janejellyroll;c-45620287There's a ton of information on weight loss out there and a lot of it is conflicting.[/quote] , I don't know if it's realistic to expect a huge chunk of the population to completely overhaul their meal planning, comfort mechanisms, and patterns around food intake during a economic and health…
  • @mockchoc, I want to ask your forgiveness for being too harsh. While I do strongly disagree with what you said, I was pretty harsh myself. I hope you are having a great and peaceful Christmas with your family!
  • That is really a very harsh and judgemental thing to say! Some of us don’t have the extra income to be able to afford the extra fees for having everything delivered, for one thing. And what about the delivery employees, first responders and such whose jobs take them out into the public? Are they to be blamed if they…
  • Yeah, I can’t stand slimy textures, no matter how desirable it is in other cultures. Caviar and bubble tea, while favorites in other cultures are firmly out of the question for me!
  • Our family is currently obsessed with Trader Joe’s bagels. They’re really good and have 9 grams of protein. We eat them for breakfast every day. Well, my husband and I don’t eat breakfast, so we eat them for lunch. I have mine with butter and peanut butter and feel full most of the day in a good way. Often, I don’t need a…
  • My skin would fall apart if I showered that much. Like literally start falling off, in big flakes. My husband and I both have sensitive skin and he has eczema. Our poor kids stood no chance of not inheriting extremely sensitive skin, so we all shower every other day as recommended by the dermatologist. That’s probably why…
  • Absolutely! That’s my point. It’s not that Covid is not overwhelming, but that healthcare in normal times is overwhelming. Case in point, I used to pray desperately every time I walked into the hospital for a shift that I wouldn’t kill someone by missing something because I was so rushed. I never did, and was told by…
  • I just typed a long response and it got lost. I’m not sure why people are responding as though I said that Covid is normal, because I didn’t. I said it’s worse than than normal. However it is true that hospitals are full and nurses are overworked every winter. Every winter, patients receive less than ideal care and are…
  • What I meant by knife’s edge, is not that the hospitals are not doing well, but because they are so eager for profits, they want as few empty beds as possible, which causes problems even in normal times. I was working in a big city, btw. And yes, I know that nurses are even more overworked. My point was that they always…
  • I’m really struck by the general tone of this thread. I don’t think people realize how hospitals and ICUs are run in general. I worked as an RN in a telemetry unit, which is a step down from ICU. Every single year during the flu season, the hospital filled up, as did the ICU. It was not unusual to people to come into the…
  • My husband told me that I look thinner even though the scale hasn’t moved much this month. Plus my clothes are fitting more loosely around my waist, while my shoulders are more defined. My coat is a little looser around my hips. All good motivators to keep going though the scale is barely moving. But I haven’t been…
  • I’m 5’4 and weighed 216 before starting to lose weight at the end of August. I too felt yucky all the time, didn’t sleep well, was sore when I stood up from sitting and always felt tired. I’ve lost 17 lbs so far, and am sleeping great, have much more energy, no more brain fog, and am not sore anymore. You can do this! You…
  • It’s weird, but I was uniformly ignored and looked past in public when I was young and thin, but now that I’m older and fatter, people are so very much nicer. In particular young men who before never gave me the time of day, are so respectful and smile sweetly at me! I’m consistently shocked! The same is true for my…
