Somebody posted "If apple cider vinegar is that good for you, imagine what wine can do!" That got me thinking about wine...and "rules" "Never drink wine from a bottle that is bigger than your head" That seemed reasonable enough in the context of "jug wines". but then I experienced a remarkable older California Cabernet…

Go ahead they said "lose 15 pounds" they said. "It'll be easy". ;) I was traveling by car (4500 miles) for the last week 12/3-12/10. So not much chance for exercise and a little more of a challenge to "be good". Regardless, it was a great week and much was accomplished. I'm still here! October 31: 213.9 November 30:…

Hi @kathydavis6 Welcome to MFP. So I too am arthritic and have been for more years than I care to remember. More years with arthritis than without. I have been lucky enough that I have been able to continue to exercise through the arthritic issues, I know not all can. It has not been easy, but my MD, PT and me all agree…

When I stopped logging my meals and such, I found that I ended up eating and drinking more. Not a big surprise. So I gained weight. Again, no surprise. I am now working on whittling down the "excess" weight once again. In doing so, I am watching my portions of everything and logging to the best that I can. I still have a…

Go ahead they said "lose 15 pounds" they said. "It'll be easy". ;) But the holidays have started. This past weekend saw a Thanksgiving Feast with the local Scouts. We had a good sized group of Scouts of all ages along with our recently formed Female Troop. Good Times! I was careful(ish), and had a great weekend. Meanwhile,…

Ok, I'm in. My goal here will be as the title says "15 pounds". That seems easy enough, but with the Holidays I may need some encouragement. :) I've been here (MFP) before and did great, really improving my over-all fitness and losing 45+ lbs along the way. Ultimately, my MD was like wow, your numbers are great! Not that…

For me, I try to keep things simple. To lose weight over time, I simple need to use more calories than I consume. I plug the numbers into MFP, and get very careful about weighing/measuring my food intake since that is easier to control that the almost mythical calories burned. I mean, same program at the gym on two…

The views were not of Mtns or peaks. But lots of beautiful, changing forests and ponds. There was a group of 22 of us, so that tends to slow things down a little. It took about 8hrs 45min total time, with lots of time for breaks, lunch, a little misdirection and such. But we were back to the trailhead just as the rain…

Ok, let's get this done. I have been "here" before and reached my then target weight (185). Then minor injuries, the dark days of Covid, and sloth took over! So here I am again. Interesting that my MD did not seem to care that I am 5 years older and right back to my heavy weight...But I care. Baby steps. STARTING WEIGHT…

Depending on the timing...perhaps I could join you for a section. I am in MA, still work full-time, so no end-to-end for me. But MA is just 90 miles border-to-border...

Early this year, I got a garmin watch. The company I work for started giving incentives for doing "healthy" things. The first week, I went to give platelets. As they draw from one arm and return to the other, I was asked to take the watch off...and they put it over on the machine. A little over an hour later...I had over…

Been hiking and backpacking for many years. Many changes in how far and how often over the years as I moved from single to married, children, children away and back to single/divorced. Now, I try to hike a lot and backpack a lot as well. So far in 2018, I have just under 300 miles of boots on the trail...9 miles last night…

What is the/your intended goal of taxing "junk food"? The intended goal helps the discussion. But what is "junk food"? A cliff Bar is a lot of calories in a small package (probably meets the "junk food" definition of many). And I would not encourage anyone from making this a part of their meal plan or even as a part of…
