  • I am soon to be 62. I am facing health issues and need to get my weight under conrol. I have been overweight much of my adult life. I have been working improving my health for a few months and I am making progress. I exercise regularly and have lost about 17 pounds. I want to lose 30-35 more which will have me solidly in…
  • I find that string cheese with some grapes or 2 clementines can help me when I am starving. I don't know if it is psychological or what but that will satisfy me and hold me for quite awhile. Good for you on your weight loss- that is awesome!
  • Welcome, good for you! I agree diets don't work for me either. They are restictive, and by being called a diet in my mind there is an end point where I can return to "normal." For me nothing is off limits but I eat between 1200-1400 calories per day. It helps me to know that I can eat a food if I really want it helps me. I…
  • Drinking water Exercising at least 150 min. per week Get outside as much as possible/walk onnect with others via technology or phone
  • @socajam- diabetes is the issue I am facing as well and I am determined to do my best to avoid it. I am taking a class on preventing diabetes and the coach keeps stressing the need for exercise. I do Youtube videos regularly and make myself do at least a short one just about every day. We are suppossed to strive for at…
  • This time feels different because my health is at stake. I really want to maintain my health so I don't have a choice. I feel good about what I am doing- I have been logging for 90 days and making changes as I go so this is becoming a life style change for me. I find now that often if I see some of the foods that I used to…
  • Do you know why you binge? That might be worth exploring especially when you are talking about 6000 calories. I used to binge when stressed. I began to check-in with myself and ask if eating was going to solve my problems (no!). I rarely if ever binge any more but I do eat over my calorie goal at times. It is not…
  • Welcome! You are dealing with a lot and I admire you for working to get healthier. We are human and make mistakes. The key is recognizing them and learning from them. You have done a great job increasing your time on the eliptical. I love your closing line "You matter, you deserve happiness."
  • Welcome back, you can do this!
  • No- I find that I lose about 5 pounds per month on average. That is right within the goal I have set for myself. I look at exercise as something I do for my health, eating in a calorie deficit I do for weight loss. I am happy with my progress, it works for me so I am going to continue along this path.
  • Back in August I did a Youtube fitness test for people over 60 - I did it again this morning and improved in all areas. I was pretty happy. My cardio showed the most improvement. Shows me what really putting some effort into exercising can do.
  • I love what you said about changing your mindset from vanity to health.
  • Awesome Job! I could relate to so mch of what you said- especially the part about making eating judgement free and not giving up when the scale doesn't move. Those are both issues I have recently learned to overcome and I am much okder than you are. Thanks for the inspiration.
  • I agree with getting professional help. Do you have a Dr.'s ok to workout? As @MaltedTea said a physiotherapist would be a great resource. In the meantime could you do some basic arm exercisces such as bicep curls using canned vegetables or water bottles for weights? If a short walk is too much try sitting in a chair that…
  • Welcome! You have taken a big step and made a commitment to get control of your weight. It will not happen all at once, it is a lifestyle change. There will be good days and bad days- that is life. Just acknowldge the bad days and move on. Don't be of the all or nothing mindset. Don't give up if the scale doesn't move for…
  • Great Job- keep it up!
  • We went to a nice restaurant tonight- outside dining with heaters. It is the first really nice dinner out that we have had since COVID started. I had what I wanted and still managed to stay under 1600 calories for the day. (I am at 1200 calories so it was high for me but worth it.) I even had desert. In the past I would…
  • Meal plan if you can. I use Slender Kitchen and Skinnytaste for recipe ideas. I keep them on a Google Doc with a notation of where to find the recipe. I also list any ingredients that I may not have on hand so that I am not caught short. I can go back and look over my meal plans and make a grocery list pretty easily. I…
  • Good for you for being dedicated to logging. I know for me that has made all the difference. I don't currently own a food scale but I do measure my food. Just know that I feel your pain when you say why bother- I have been there so many times. I don't think I would have figured out what I needed to do to make this work if…
  • I have been where you are many times. I would not see the results I wanted or I would not see them quickly enough- so I woud say "why bother, it's not working" and I would quit. Recently I realized I had no choice but to do this for my health. When I got serious about logging my food- EVERYTHING, even the things I was…
  • I will bank calories before a holiday or major event but not on a regular basis. I don't do it formally, I just eat less over the few days leading up to the holiday. My issue is getting back on track after- not continuing that way of eating.
  • I am walking to various places that I would have driven to in the past to run errands. These walks are in addition to my regular exercise. My legs no longer hurt after a wallk!
  • I have lost 14 pounds, posted recently asking how much weight people lost before they saw a difference in their clothes. A week or 2 later with only another pound gone I am able to zip a pair of pants (note I dein't say wear) that I have wanted to get into. When I had posted they were no where near zipping yet I know that…
  • Remember your "why". My why is my health. I also give myself a small non food reward sometimes. Yesterday it was sitting on a bench just enjoying nature after my walk.
  • Leslie Sansone is great! She has short videos that I cand do when unmotivated, but once I start I ususally continue with something else. I also look for videos for seinors and even do some chair exercise videos especially in the beginning. Body Team Project has some videos for beginners and he is very clear about doing…
  • Thanks for posting the link to your blog. I took a quick look at it and I am looking forward to spending more time on it later.
  • Wow- good for you for reversing your congestive heart failure! It is amazing the changes we can make for our health through diet and exercise! I am here to try and prevent type 2 diaetes (I am pre diabetic) and to make sure I work out regularly due to some heart issues. My cardiologist always reminds me the exercise is…
  • Welcome and good luck on your journey! This is a great place to get support and motivation (and to spend time when you are in danger of binging. :) )
  • I love your inspiration that says "remember excuses are useless." I am going to remeber that.
  • I made Turkey Taco Salsa Verde from the website Slender Kitchen last night. My husband loved it- asked me to make it again and he rarely asks me to make anything again. I served it with quick refried beans also from Slender Kitchen. Like you I am at 1200 per day.
