  • Good Morning, I haven't posted in awhile but I have lost 6 pounds in that time. I joined a CSA so I am trying some fresh veggies that I have never tried. That is a lot of fun. I also joined the Y and I am trying some new exercise classes. I was bored with the gym and not giving it my best effort. I am also doing online…
  • Hi Nancy, I have been on and off here for years. I have also done WW, a diabetes prevention program, all with various levels of success. I need to get serious, I saw my health care provider yesterday, I am up 6 pounds from last March and my A1c is up .2. I do exercise regularly and I eat healthy- my problem is I like…
  • Welcome, Diabetes is scary, avoiding it is part of my motivation as well. I see my APRN tomorrow. My weight is up, my A1 c is 5.6 the highest it has ever been. I get frustrated with myself for not just doing what I know I need to do. Good luck to you, I am sure you can do this.
  • I am nearly 65. I am overweight because of snacking. My meals are healthy, well portioned, but I am a snacker (grazer). It is only when I control my snacks that I lose weight. I do cardio and strength training as well, but it is not enough to compensate for the snacking. For me it is planning and allowing for my snacks AND…
  • You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing this.
  • Like you I am a healthy eater at meal time- BUT- in between I do a lot of mindless snacking. I am working on gaining control of that. Not having snack foods in the house is not an option. I do have the choice about eating them, it is within my control. Right now I am focused on eating when I am hungry, being mindful of…
  • Welcome, I am 65 years old. I have 3 grandchildren 4, 13 mos, and 11 mos. Like you I want to be around to see them grow up. I have some health issues that are made worse by my weight. During COVID I was very diligent about making lifestyle changes, and then I began to let it slide. Fortunately I caught the slide before I…
  • Hello, I am back after a break and a weight gain. I know what I need to do- and I know I need to do it NOW for my health! I have done it before and I will do it again.
  • All I can say is I am right there with you. I was doing great a year ago. I saw my cardiologist in September and she was very pleased with my weight loss. I saw her yesterday and I had gained 11 pounds since my last visit. I am trying not to berate myself, to accept and move on, to continue to focus on healthy eating, and…
  • Very inspiring- I needed to read this today. Thank you!
  • I am back after quite a bit of time away. My last weigh in was at the end of May last year. I have put on about 18 of the 36 pounds I lost. I have continued to exercise so that is good. At least I stopped my weight gain before I put it ALL back on. Oh well- I know what to do.
  • I am right there with you. I did great- took off weight, still had more to lose but felt good about myself. I was exercising regularly- then I started to let it slide, the eating went back to old habits, I was no longer logging food, the exercise became sporadic. Fortunately I only put on about 10 pounds but I had to start…
  • I worked out and that really helps cut my desire to eat.
  • Yup- been there more than once. (I enjoyed my summer and managed to put on 8-10 pounds, it is coming back off again.) You can regain control. Take it slowly. Make small changes. Move more, it doesn't have to be intense exercise, just move. Log what you eat, take responsibility for it and DON'T GIVE UP!
  • Your mindset will get you where you need to be. I am slowly working my way to a better weight. I am returning after a 2 month break though I never quit logging or working out completely. I just let myself have the time I needed and I am ready to recommit fully as of a few days ago. Though I know it would be better for my…
  • You look amazing! Congratulations.
  • I am back at it. I took a break for a couple of months though I logged on every day and tracked most days. I also continued to exercise though not at the level I need to to maintain health. Fortunately my motivation has come back. I needed the break and now I am ready to recommit. I did gain some early on in my break but I…
  • Hi and welcome. You are right, SparkPeople was very different than MFP. I joined SparkPeople years ago but didn't find it worked as well for me. I loved the recipes on SparkPeople, but I find lots of recipes on sites like Skinnytaste and Slender Kitchen. I enjoy the boards here though I don't participate a lot. I hope that…
  • Good for you- you know what you need and you are doing it. I am just coming back after a several week break- and it was what I needed. I was finishing up a job and then I was on a 12 day vacation and I refuse to forgo local cusine when I am away. During those few weeks I logged less and less until I was not logging at all.…
  • I just returned from a 12 day vacation which included a river cruise and a stay on either end in 2 cities. I made a lot of healthy choices while I was away but I also indulged a lot. I made conscious decisions about what I ate, but I have a price to pay now that I am home. My NSV is that I didn't panic over my weight gain.…
  • I went hiking and was able to climb steep hills without becoming winded or needing to rest. I kept up with my family and had a great time.!
  • I certainly can identify with stress eating. One of the things I have learned to do is to ask myself if eating will solve the problem or make me feel better. Usually the answer is no and I can stop the cycle. That has been a big help for me. For exercise there is kids music by The Learning Station on YouTube. The songs are…
  • I don't want to forget the feeling of scanning the room hoping to find someone larger than I was. I don't want to forget the pain my body was in. I don't want to forget how hard it was to exercise. I don't want to forget the feeling of "good" and "bad" food and the shame I felt when I chose "bad" food. I don't want to…
  • DO NOT GIVE UP! I have been where you are so many times and figured "it doesn't matter what I eat, I'm still gaining, I might as well eat what I want." I never looked at is as a normal fluxuation. NO! Wrong! I am staying the course now, at age 63. I have to for my health. Yes, my weight goes up(and down) unexpectedly.…
  • Welcome, Good for you for not giving up. I know it is hard when the weight is coming off slowly, but it is coming off. I believe you are losing about 1/2 lb a week. That is roughly what I am doing, I have lost 35 pounds since March 2020. I feel better, I look better. I still have 18 to go and it will take as long as it…
  • I am 6 pounds away from the lowest weight I have been at and maintained in my older adult life. That was about 10 years ago and then I gradually put weight back on. My mini goal is to get to that weight.
  • Motivation has to come from you. Find your WHY. For me it is my health. I agree with making small changes, gradually making more and more- if you change things all at once you are not likely to sustain the changes. For me feeling better and looking better is becoming motivational. I am choosing to lose weight slowly.…
  • We are ordering Chinese food for dinner tonight. I wanted a combination platter, complete with egg roll and fried rice. I ordered shrimp with steamed vegetables and brown rice instead. I splurged and ordered the shrimp rather than chicken.
  • Congratulations and welcome! I am in my 60's and I wish that it hadn't taken me all these years to learn that "diets" don't work. You are right, the changes need to be sustainable. I am losing weight slowly, sometimes verrry slowly but that is ok. I am getting much more physically fit, I eat more healthy now. I do eat what…
  • Great visit at the cardiologist. She was thrilled with my bp, my weight loss and increased exercise. I don't need to go back for a year!
